Listening to local conservative radio host this morning who has several contacts on both sides of aisle saying the WI election fiasco was a pure Democrat Op.
They wanted chaos. Perez and the Dem's are pushing for mail-in ballot fraud...oops, I mean elections for this fall and wanted to hold up WI as a prime example of why it was needed. Only 19,000 voted in person yesterday in Milwaukee.
What the complicit press is not reporting is that voting went smoothly over the entire state except for Milwaukee. Only 5 polling stations opened for the entire city of Milwaukee instead of the normal 180! Even liberal Madison had over 60 polling stations open.
There were well over 1 million absentee ballots sent out and almost 80% returned. So this is what I think happened:
They knew the vote totals of the absentee ballots and had a pretty good idea who was going to win the races. That's why Evers held off so long. They needed the counts.
The most important race on the ballot was the Supreme Court seat so I'm guessing it wasn't a close race either way or they would have had more polling stations open in Milwaukee.

It was really telling - they *all* did this. Bloomberg ran against Trump. Biden runs against Trump. Klobuchar and Warren mostly ran against Trump (a couple of snipes against Biden or Sanders).
None of them were running against each other.

Where I grew up needs health care workers in a serious way. I'm positive if you call the hospitals in SW Georgia, they will pay you room and board, pay to fly you in, and match your current salary plus some.
If you know any ONGYNs, the same holds true for these doctors as over half in the area have CCP -Lung AIDS.
Also, Trump if you want to send a medical navy ship where it's needed, we need one in the Gulf. You know the area of the poors, the unwashed, the rurals, and the area where ObamaCare destroyed the hospitals and health care facilities. Would be nice....

It's damn near impossible to develop any sort of process over the phone, with people who are barely holding on. So we put out fires for some, have routine, short conversations with others, and everyone is on hold. No progress is bad for people whose lives are generally shite.

Joe's a good candidate for that. He's establishment so that when he gets the nomination those around him will populate the party apparatus in a new wave of hires. Establishment keeps control of the party. Probably strengthening it, really, since they actually gave up a fair amount to the activist left after 2016 in a panic move.

Biden will withdraw for health reasons in late August/Early September. The DNC will hold an emergency meeting and announce that Cuomo is the nominee. The VP nominee will back them. This gives Cuomo two months to campaign, with a cheering media supporting him, as well as gives the DNC time to prep the battlefield.
Dem governors and Sec States will immediately move to replace Biden's name on the ballot. The threat will be that if Republican states refuse to do likewise, the election will be illegitimate. If any challenge goes to SCOTUS a month out from the election or later, the argument will be "we don't have time to change the ballots now".

If Trump really looks vulnerable, then you may see some movement toward another candidate - but even then Biden is probably the smart choice from the Dem side.
For now, I'm guessing most of the Dem power players understand that the Presidency is a lost battle. The fight is elsewhere. But the top of the ticket is what will drive the base. Hard needle to thread.

With The New Atlantic writing articles about how Democrats shouldn't panic about a Biden candidacy, I think it's safe to assume that there's going to be a massive enthusiasm problem with the party in November.
If 10% of the party is less excited about Biden than Hillary, that'll translate to less money and time given to the party as a whole, including other candidates.

I actually think down ballot's going to be really bad for them this year. Maybe not as bad as a Bernie candidacy would have been, but still bad.
Down ballots are at least partially determined by the overall excitement of the party, and that's largely driven by excitement for the presidential race. A loopy old man rapist racist isn't going to incite a lot of enthusiasm from the base, especially the ones without jobs who go to every protest and have weekdays available to knock on doors for GOTV efforts.

The honcho were supposed to represent the Democratic Deep State, which (in Redford's script) always engage in Failure Theater.
Of course the thrilling finale is that he refuses to play their game - -he accepts the nomination, this disobeys them by trying to WIN! Exciting!

I doubt even that asumption.
Tested cased for flu, according to the CDC, is 250,000+. Of course we dont regularly test for flu. CDC *estimates* for this years flu is..... 39 MILLION..... for a disease we have some degree of herd immunity AND vaccinate for.
So far .... the "flu" is far more contagious than COVID.... according to just teh data.
Also..... On a closed environment like a cruise ship.... when every body is supposed to be shedding viruses like a mofo while being assymptomatic.... the infection rate was..... 30%.
Sorry.... but I dont believe a single thing about what we're being told about COVID.
Yes... there are risks.... yes its a killer. But I truly wish the powers that be stop lying to us about and covering their asses in hindsight.

The infectiousness is being wildly understated. Way more people have it than reported because testing is directed at those with serious enough symptoms to show up at a hospital and ask for it.
I think a whole lot more people have it, but testing isn't designed to capture the asymptomatic.

I watched a Sargon video about a John King interview on CNN with Van Jones and two women "of color". After the black woman talked about structural and generational racism, Van Jones said black people need to stay inside if they are taking any pills (that is how he suggested explaining what pre-existing conditions means) and take care of themselves. The message of personal responsibility was surprising and refreshing and tells me he actually cares what happens to black people during this pandemic.
The Latina then proceeded to talk about how and why ethnicity and race information isn't being collected consistently, which is an interesting point but doesn't solve the problem of disproportionately high deaths among African Americans.

That can't be right. Monday of last week, Birx said that the barest minimum of deaths, if we did all the the mitigations they demanded, was 100k to 250k. Two days later she bitched about signs we weren't complying adequately. We spent all day yesterday talking about urban noncompliance (precisely the people whose population density made mitigation most important).
One can only reasonably conclude that there must be at least a quarter million deaths coming, if government projections have any value.

I prepared a bucket of water and detergent before I leave the house and also leave the door from the house to the garage open (I am one of the rare people who actually park in their garage). I also leave open all the doors leading to the bathroom where the bucket is.
When I get back home, I walk through all the open doors, remove the cloth mask and swish it through the detergent/water and then hand wash it. Soap/detergent kills the virus.

True, but we have hundreds of years of data on flu deaths and only a couple months on Wuhan Flu, so its difficult to say. All you can say is that there's a lot more from regular flu than this stuff, and that makes it VERY difficult to trust that it was necessary to do all this and destroy the economy.

If this keeps up past the beginning of May I am going to have to toss out about $2,000 worth of beer in our walk in cooler at the VFW.
That is gonna leave a mark and we are not going to get our money back. Insurance won't cover it because "act of God". and we are not in a position to eat that kind of loss.
While we can get a loan to cover it, that loan has to be repaid unlike the paycheck protection one, and I am not putting my signature on something that I am not certain will ever get repaid because they will come after whoever signs that application if the business folds.

I would like to know the numbers of the over 65's that have got it and died. and who got it and lived.
They're lumping a lot of cases together and reporting all the deaths without differentiating them.
If the folks really at risk are the over 60's say, I who am one would gladly mask up etc so you all could get back to work cause I'm getting scared that some of these assholes are going to try to take over the gov't and we'll all be in trouble.
For the conspiracy folks out there, there are about 40 million older folks. If 20percent died from virus, the gov't would see a savings of about 9 trillion in future medical costs.
That's given that each person over 65 uses an average of about 1 million in health care over the rest of their life.
That should bake your noodle.

He was saying "people who are taking pills" as a way for people to identify if they have preexisting conditions. Implied in his comments was that 1) black folks are getting infected because of behavior, e.g., lack of social distancing and 2) black Americans tend to be unhealthier than the average person. Both will lead to higher infection and mortality rates.
I bet if they analyzed data by income level/socioeconomic class, they will have similar findings across the board.

When this is all over, we'll be able to tease out all these hypotheses about what's going on. Unfortunately, we have to wait until it's all over.
At that point, we can look at the actual overall mortality rate. If you see a spike in that, that tells you how much WuFlu increased it. And, if you then see that overall rate come down, you can say aha, that just killed off people who were going to soon die anyway.
You'll be able to see from this if they just shifted more "regular, expected" deaths to WuFlu or not, etc, etc, etc.
But again, we have to wait to get this data. A wait months.

Funny how that can happen. Sometimes you can do everything the same on a subsequent album and it sounds totally different. The example I always go back to is Judas Priest.
Screaming for Vengeance was their biggest album to date, great sounding album. So they reproduced the process for the follow-up, Defenders of the Faith, recording in Ibiza with Tom Allom etc. But the album turned out to be muddy and indistinct in comparison. Really disappointing, to my ear.

How long does it last on a dry surface? This question alone has like 5 answers, depending on what study and how long ago you look. How long are you infectious? Again, depends on when you got your answer or what study you look at.
And the news has been incredibly ... irresponsible at best... in informing people about all this. I mean they always have been, but in this case its driving terror and hysteria.

They need to do an analysis that includes many variables like age, obesity, race, preexisting conditions, population density, socioeconomic status, etc. I would not be surprised if race effects wouldn't be significant.

Well, that's the entire point: deaths attributed to influenza nearly all have underlying conditions. Sure, there are always a few young, healthy people who catch it and spiral down to death in a very short time, but they are way out on the tail of the curve.
We have come to expect that with 'flu, and basically tolerate it, as 'flu comes around every year, and we cannot shut down the world to deal with it.
Along comes this new disease, that basically acts in the same manner as 'flu, and we suddenly go into panic mode?

This is a scientific talk on developing treatments for the virus, not an economic one.
This is a new crisis. I doubt anyone has figured out all the answers. We are still learning and will make mistakes.
If we can find therapies to treat and prevent the virus, (and also use the developed methodologies in future pandemics), that would go a long way in allowing us to lead more normal lives during future outbreaks.

The insurance lady disagrees with you on the "act of God" thing and we are in NE Texas and not allowed to sell alcohol unless accompanied with a food order. We have two cases of fries and a case of onion rings in the freezer so we could in theory do that.
And we have already been turned in multiple times by nosy neighbors when we were inside cleaning so the Sheriff will show up if we open the doors for to go sales.
If it comes to that we plan of just giving it away to members who want it before it goes bad.

To be fair, we didn't know how this affected people a month ago, and we still have an unclear picture.
The longer this goes on, it looks more and more to me like it's going to have overall effects similar to the flu, but because there were so many unknowns early, the panic wasn't 100% unwarranted. I do think it's way overblown, by the way.
Still, with that being said, we're past the point where anyone should think this is going to have a massive effect on the country that outweighs the flu significantly. It's time to start rolling stuff back.

We can't sell alcohol without a food order to go along with it, and the TABC has already been called on us multiple times because of nosy neighbors when we were inside cleaning, so they are keeping an eye on us.
And they have said a bag of chips and a candy bar is NOT a food order.

Agreed. There's a reason for federalism.
It makes zero sense to treat ID and ND the same as NY or CA.
But everyone is panicking and people (I'm looking at you, journalists and other miscreants) are setting everyone else's hair on fire, making it difficult to keep a level head. Plus this is a nice opportunity for wannabe tyrants to let their freak tyrant flags fly.
It's a mess.

One of the zillion reasons to dismiss Wuhan deaths offered here every 30 seconds is that "aha! See, they're people with other conditions, they would have died anyway!!"

Then, in the next breath, flu numbers are cited to pooh-pooh the potential menace of the new bug.
Just pointing out that comorbidities are not a debunking of Wuhan numbers in themselves, especially if one is also pointing to flu numbers as a baseline to conclude "no big deal".
"Along comes this new disease, that basically acts in the same manner as 'flu, and we suddenly go into panic mode?"
If the new disease acted the same manner as flu - i.e., was known to do so, and this was known in December/January - then the explanations for the world-wide response (starting with China killing doctors and welding people into apartments) oughta be a doozy.
Could be it *was* just a nasty flu strain equivalent. As publius noted way up, insights like this are almost always only possible in retrospect, when you have lots of info, and better info.
I don't think the observed behavior of the bug early on looked just like flu, or that the concern about a catastrophic pandemic was frivolous or baseless. But it could have been wrong. Or it could have been a combo of partly wrong, and partly amenable to the radical mitigation we've seen.

Flu kills a person in the same way the Chinese Bat Flu kills you, pneumonia and your bodies inflammatory response to the virus in the lungs and your body essentially starves of oxygen as your lungs are unable to exchange O2 for Co2, this can cause failures to any number of systems in your body.
Bat Flu still massively lags behind average annual flu.
It's a scam.

So, what about reselling a food order from some takeout place? Could your VFW branch maybe work out a deal with some small independent cafe, struggling to make it on take-out meals. VFW sells the beer, and orders and fetches meals from "Anna's Kitchen", and both can picked up at the post.
