Ohio State Democrat Lawmaker Is... Referring Trump For "Crimes Against Humanity" to the Hague for... Having an Optimistic View of the Efficacy of Hydroxychloroquine

NeverTrump will be fundraising for her in days.

Ohio state Rep. Tavia Galonski (D) said that she will make a “referral for crimes against humanity” over President Trump’s promotion of the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for the novel coronavirus, despite its unproven benefits and lack of long-term Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.

"I can't take it anymore. I've been to The Hague. I'm making a referral for crimes against humanity tomorrow," Galonski tweeted late Sunday.

"Today's press conference was the last straw," Galonski added. "I know the need for a prosecution referral when I see one."

Galonski, who represents the Akron area, told the Ohio Capital Journal on Sunday that she had "no idea" how she would go about such a referral.

"How hard can it be?" Galonski, a former magistrate in the Summit Count Common Pleas Court added.

The world is a very simple place for the stupid and uneducated.

MSNBC "News" "analyst" Glenn Kirschener, a legal mind of the highest caliber -- and by "highest," I mean he's on crack laced with fish tank cleaner -- sagely pronounces that Trump is in fact guilty of second-degree murder.

For recommending an unproven but promising course of treatment.

Well, the MSNBC Department of Justice better start making out a second bill of indictment charging Andrew Cuomo with murder, too.

"The tests in the hospital, they're too short a period of time to get a scientific report," Cuomo said. "Hospital administrators, doctors want to have a significant data set before they give a formal opinion. Anecdotally, you’ll get suggestions that it has been effective. But we don’t have any official data yet from a hospital or a quote-unquote study, which will take weeks if not months.”

"There has been anecdotal evidence that it is promising; that's why we’re going ahead," he added, noting that some patients have a pre-existing condition or medication regimen that prevents them from taking it.

Little Brian Stelter continues to freak out when Trump (but not Cuomo or anyone else) touts hydroxychloroquine, and his Number One SuperFan "AllahPundit" continues emulating his hero and freaking his hysterical ass out right with him.

The "Conservative, Inc. media," everyone. The best and the brightest.

And speaking of Little Brian Stelter:

Hey All. Can we talk about 1 of the few topics I may actually know too much about: homicide? Specifically, whether Donald Trump may have criminal exposure for some level of negligent homicide or voluntary/involuntary manslaughter for the way he's mishandled the Coronavirus crisis liability in an attempt to appropriately and ethically hold accountable those who were responsible for taking the life of a fellow human being. ...

idk, but I've been reading many studies and input from the front line doctors and those in the fight, from S Korea to France and now several in the US. And except for those that have a reason not to take it (heart issues?) ... it has become a pretty common prescription ... but hospitals don't want to talk about it ... maybe for fear of media attacks, idk.

There is a lot of data by now ... someone must be about to release some early totals on when the full cocktail is given early enough, and for at least 3 days. That was the French study ... if taken for at least 3 days, only one death out of 1003, as of a few days ago.

85 I can't tell where "politicians" end and "pundits" begin.

The entire Left is one vast blurred spectrum of "journalists" and "politicians" and "experts" and "pundits" and "activists" such that it's impossibly to divide all these people into distinct categories or professions.

Instead of one leftist being 100% activist and another leftist being 100% journalist, etc., it's more like Leftist A is 35% activist, 20% pundit, 15% politician and 30% journalist, while Leftist B is 50% activist, 5% pundit, 45% journalist, and so on.

Or, to simplify matters, they're all 50% devil and 50% asshole.

More importantly any treatment that requires drawing plasma which my understanding is they take x amount of your blood, skim off the plasma, take more of your blood, to get a useful amount of plasma so its not like a 20 minute blood donation should have some controversy 'only as a last resort' attached to it because of the real inconvenience to the donors.

Inevitable. And so, I have an idea --

The journodems are going to scream bloody murder no matter what Trump decides to do re restarting the economy. That is a given.

Now, he's preparing a new task force aimed directly at the restart process. That's good. But to lessen the screaming idiots' power to influence, scare monger, and general whininess

We need a national poll. This would serve as political cover for the difficult choices ahead. As I see it, there need to be 3 or more choices, explained in a national address, being careful to explain pros and cons of each. There are no painless choices here.

1. The Fauci option -- Keep it all shut down until no new cases (this one ain't gonna fly, but it will get some votes). That day may never come. An effective vaccine may never come (see AIDS or the common cold for examples)

2. The Sweden option -- Essentially, go for full herd immunity but since we ain't Sweden, it will be much worse in total deaths and suffering. Open most things back up, drop most restrictions, take our lumps.

3. Sweden Lite option -- This is what Trump seems to favor, and will probably be what the task force will recommend. Stress hand cleanliness, distancing when possible, but allow people to make their own damn choices within reason. Sooner or later, this is gonna happen anyhow.

Sure, it's a stacked poll, because #3 is the only sensible choice imho. There are no GOOD choices. But Americans will tend to get behind something if they feel they have had some input.

My worry is the media will focus like lasers on the docs that are doing late-stage use, and that it isn't much of an improvement, which is exactly what one of the studies (French?) found while also finding that it works extraordinarily well before critical symptoms set in -- thereby cementing HCQ's damnation with lies of omission.

I don't know how to do it, but if you search my posts, you'll find somethin' somethin' about batshit crazy loons with the lights on and running water, what will they be like when it all goes sideways?

What's sobering is most disaster response revolves around sending in people or supplies from unscathed or undamaged areas. An epidemic is something else because it can cripple the agencies that are supposed to ensure or restore order - police, fire, even the natty guard.

And clearly we're all plussed up across the country on state and local officials who are only in it for the money, and bring no discernable leadership skills, candor, integrity, or special knowledge in anything other than spouting word salad bullshit.

I remain optomistic in a twisted sense. Some will rise to the challenge. The ones that don't ... are really losing their shit right now.

idk, but I've been reading many studies and input from the front line doctors and those in the fight, from S Korea to France and now several in the US. And except for those that have a reason not to take it (heart issues?) ... it has become a pretty common prescription ... but hospitals don't want to talk about it ... maybe for fear of media attacks, idk.

I read the discussion this am from Cat Ass about another posters comment regarding Dr. Oz on Fox news this am. Although I agree that I wouldn't take Dr. Oz advice as gospel, what he was talking about his morning was that he had been asked a couple of days ago by Brian Kilmeade if there was a way to see how many lupus patients take HCQ and how many have contracted Covid 19.
Oz didnt' know, but he ended up talking to a couple of rheumatologists , one of whom has 800 lupus patients currently on HCQ and NONE of them have contracted the virus. He also asked an insurance data collecting agency the same question and they came up with around 1,000 lupus patients in their data base that were Rx HCQ and none ended up with a subsequent dx of Covid 19 to date. He talked to another Doc who said he had one patient on HCQ who is positive, but that he did not believe the patient had been taken their HCQ as prescribed.
He said it was a small sample as studies go, but his purpose was to help counteract the media's obsession that HCQ is dangerous. The rheumatologist he talked to has been in practice for 43 years and said he has never had a patient experience an adverse reaction to HCQ.

Oz said he had never Rx HCQ until about a month ago he didn't elaborate on what it was for.

272 ll this fire that Trump is taking. All the lying headlines. All the fake news. All the trials and witnesses and intimidation. The hits on his family. His friends. His health. His entire life. The threats of jail when his terms are over.

It's all aimed squarely at us. At you and me. They will take their war against America as far as they need to. I think most of us get this by now.

But there's Trump. Like a big beautiful fucking battleship out in front of us, just taking it all, staying resolute, returning fire and saying let's dance some more, bitches. You're not getting through me.

He could have stayed non-political, and be living a sweet-ass life right now, popping in front of crowds of all kinds occasionally and receiving nonstop ego-feeding adulation from 90% of people instead of 45%. He could be doing TV shows, building buildings, or just vacationing with his hot model wife and just golfing and resting forever after a life well-lived. Yet, through it all, he's ready to do it for five more years. He is amazing. God bless him.

I think there are four major factions of opposition to an effective treatment, with obvious crossover:

1) those who want the disease to last as long as possible and kill as many as possible because that is politically advantageous
2) those who oppose a cheap, easy to produce treatment that is off patent because there's no money to be made
3) those who oppose a new treatment because they are doctors and always oppose the new and different that they are not comfortable and familiar with.
4) those who are so fixated on testing and worried about unexpected side effects or damage that they want the long process used no matter who it kills.

276 Didnt the Governor of Michigan ban hydroxychloroquine for about three days, lift the ban, then blame Trumo for a shortage in her state???
Posted by: fixerupper at April 07, 2020 02:43 PM (nw6Hr)

Immediately after the first Trump presser in which he talked at length about HCQ and the right to try, Whitmer came out with an EO stating that it was not to be Rx to anyone for Covid 19 and if an MD or or Pharmacist did so, they were risking losing their license. This was about a day after the NV gov EO that HCQ could only be used for Covid patients in hospitals undergoing treatment.

Whitmer left that in place, and Henry Ford hospital ignored it and continued to treat Covid patients with it in certain circumstances. Such as the democrat legislator. Then after the FDA approved it under an emergency approval, she lifted the ban , and started screaming that the "Feds " needed to send thousands of doses to Michigan immediately.

Karens are pikers compared to Gretchen.

Henry Ford is conducting a trial with health care workers to see if it can prevent Covid 19 in currently non virus individuals. 3,000 employees who volunteered for it.

285 It's counterintuitive, but doctors aren't really a good resource for knowing whether a treatment works. If a doctor gives a patient "x" and the patient recovers, the doc really has no way of knowing what the outcome would have been without "x." Same way that a doctor's encounter with a possible side effect encountered while a patient is on "x" isn't proof of causation. For that kind of knowledge, you need epidemiology. Doctors' experiences with individual patients are anecdotal. They get written up in medical journals as speculative, as bases for hypotheses that may be worth actually researching.

once we have 25 sources that gave the HCQ cocktail to all there patients upon testing positive (unless some medical conflict, or unless they were young and health and were left to recover without it) ... and only one in a thousand of those patients died (comorbidities) and only 20/100 required hospital ... While the others in other cases received no HCQ and 20% ended up in hospital and 3% died ... and 8% needed ventilators ...

We are at WWII levels of federal borrowing now in terms of fraction of GDP. And back then, the federal govt's total debt wasn't too bad. It's atrocious now.

Estimates are $3T net borrowing needed for 2020. Debt held by the public to GDP is gonna hit 99% by the end of 2020.

And the Fed is gonna have to monetize 1/3 of that issuance to keep it going.

Fed balance sheet itself is gonna reach around 40% of GDP before it's over.

438 "The systematic controlled collection of anecdotes subject to proper scientific investigation is indeed data.
A bunch of anecdotes can be cherry picked, selection bias, etc."

but if many doctors give it to all their patients that test positive, many other doctors do not give it to all their positives ... that is a good random trial ... not a clinical trial sure, but it is real data. The variables must be considered, but if the results are decisive enough, it eliminates/overwhelms the variables ... when it is black and white, (as with numbers I mentioned) ... then that overrides the need for perfect double blind studies (that can't be done in two weeks ... )

and yeah, the context is the compassion of trying what has worked, not waiting for the three year perfect study. So I've seen a lot of the data, it looks good, I want to see more details of the data ... it has to be out there.

Of course - I work in industry. Double-blind studies are the Holy Grail - the Magical Unicorn - of industry.

Waiting on a perfect double-blind study, in the real world, means waiting forever. Because every data point assembled across any industrial study really, really is an anecdote. Tools and methods are different, biases come with the territory, and you either use that or you use nothing at all - but that's all you have.

Yet - we do it all the time. And believe it or not - if we fuck up big enough - people die. Yet, if we do nothing, sometimes people die because of that as well.

The most troubling thing about this insanity is not how insane it is. It's how many people agree with the insanity and go even further with it in their thinking.

My hopes of avoiding a large scale violent conflict are quickly evaporating. When you have this level political psychosis in the main steam, the radicals are already ready and willing to use violence and are just waiting for the proper context.

Again let me state that in an emergency situation when people are dying, you go with good looking anecdotes, and do the science later. Especially in this case when the drug has a known safety profile.

Now, the medical record is chock full of cases where doctors, in their own practices thought some drug or treatment was very good, they saw results. But when subjected to proper analysis, it proved to be "no better than placebo".

The are tons and tons of those. What happens? Selection bias. Docs get great feedback from patients who appear to be helped by the treatment.

456 "The plural of anecdote is not data" is not a cliche, it's a scientific fact when it comes to medical case reports. This is epidemiology 101. You can find it stated in any number of neutral sources predating this pandemic. I'm not saying taking an experimental, unproven drug can never be justified. I'd probably be willing to take the drug under present circumstances if I had a bad case of Wuflu. But a willingness to gamble due to desperate circumstances isn't the same thing as acting on scientific knowledge. We're guessing.

And what we're seeing this time is what we always see, time and time and time again.

What would you like your level of confidence to be? 95% - so that it matches standard excepted scientific norms?

OK, assume each piece of Anecdotal evidence has only a .1% chance of being correct - after all if the drug really does work the probability that the anecdotal evidence was correct approaches 100% doesn't it? So treat each piece of anecdotal evidence as an uncorrelated signal. Raise the .999 chance of the anecdotal evidence being wrong to the Nth power where N is the number of anecdotes. At N = 3000 there is less than a 5% chance that all of the Anecdotes are wrong - which means there is a 95% chance they were correct.
