Alyssa Milano Suddenly Reverses Course; Says That A Woman's Word Is No Longer Enough, One Needs Independent Evidence to Support an Allegation
She has belatedly discovered that "believing women" must not come at the expense of denying men "due process," coincidentally at the same time that the man she supports for president, Joey "Fingers" Biden, is credibly accused of penetrative rape. (As I've mentioned, several states define "rape" as involving any forcible penetration by any object or body part.)
The backstory here is that actress Alyssa Milano is the person credited with helping to popularize the pre-existing #MeToo hashtag when she retweeted it back in 2017. Since then she has become a vocal presence on Twitter often tweeting about the need to believe women. She was particularly active in supporting Dr. Christine Blasey Ford during the Kavanaugh confirmation. She was a guest of Sen. Feinstein at those hearings in September 2018 and left no doubt who she believed... Milano also wrote a piece for Vox at the time saying that it would be very wrong to put an "alleged abuser's career" over believing women...I won't keep borrowing from Sexton -- see the link for Alyssa Milano's prior no-caveats-attached claim that a woman's word was enough to convict a man. But now Biden is accused of rape by a subordinate employee. And now she's pretty sure that a woman's word should be backed by hard evidence, and, in any event, a silly woman's accusation shouldn't be enough to derail a man's political career without "due process" (two words she just recently discovered).
The lives of survivors will always be more important than Brett Kavanaugh's career...
Milano went on to say she had done her "due diligence" saying what stood out to her was that "Time Up" decided not to take the case. "I just don't feel comfortable throwing away a decent man that I've known for 15 years in this time of complete chaos without their being a thorough investigation." Again, I'll direct your attention to Milano's statement in Vox about putting "an alleged abuser's career is more valuable than a survivor's humanity." What she is saying now is exactly the opposite.By the way: "without their being"? The Council of Geniuses who make up the southern California filmic arts, huh? The fact that some of them can have one standard for a conservative and a completely different standard for a democrat says everything about what this is really about, politics, NOT protecting women.

I camped at a state park shortly after this thing hit and NO ONE was gathering or doing anything. Everyone practiced "social distancing" and it wasn't really even a thing yet.
No idea why he did this, but a guess would be concern that large parks with few people in them might turn into crime centers (drugs, rapes, etc.). A possible explanation.

Our governor closed our national parks like Zion. Because wandering in millions of acres of woods alone you might infect a bear, I guess. I know the real reason he did it, most likely. I just don't agree with the logic.
Someone tried to convince me it's because the #1 draw to the parks is foreign tourists from Asia and they don't want to give them an incentive to fly here and spread the disease. But we have a travel ban, they can't come anyway, so that logic doesn't make any sense.

Maybe I don't get it. You have a captain whose crew is being hit by this virus, he's told to sit tight, and he says F that, and goes outside the normal chain of command.
Seems to me a commander who has more concern for his crew than the niceties of the boy's club that is the higher ups in the military, is a hero.
If I'm missing something here, I don't know what it is.

If he thought he was right to do so, he should know it is also right to take his just punishment with the honor of knowing he risked his own career for his men. His men can respect him for that while also understanding their duty.

Uh, might be a commander who isn't much concerned about the fact some foreign power (China) could feel free to start a war and sink his carrier because they know, courtesy of HIM, that it's no longer battle capable and as the centerpiece of a carrier task force, pretty much becomes NO task force.

Burt - from what I understand, and of course, I could be mistaken. After he expressed concern through normal channels, he was given a direct line to the Office of the CNO to work out medical and logistical help to keep the virus in check.
But, for whatever reason, he freaked out, and then did not use that channel and went public. I've seen other COs that jumped up the chain of command when they thought they really needed to. Most time, yeah, they get their ass chewed for it but it's more of a "Don't do that again. Carry on." type of thing.
If this is true, he had to be relieved.

A few years back, every person in the Navy could site a dozen ways someone could be offended by not using the proper pronoun.
Of course, these same people couldn't drive a boat across a harbor without plowing into an innocent freighter. It was a no-win situation. The Pentagon was not listening. Even after the Pacific Plague Princess in Japan, and three or four other ships had the same problems. Maybe someone decided, well, they are all young and fit, if they all get it, then they will be immune?
But everyday, more sailors were getting sick. Stuck pierside with no place to go, just getting sick one by one, or five by ten. The Chinese Plague wasn't going to suddenly stop infecting people.
And everyone is screaming at the sailors, "Don't Get Sick!", which is an Order that is Impossible to Obey!!!!
How long until they have so many sick that the ship is deadlined?
How many sailors would decide to never reenlist?
How long until mutiny? Impossible? Maybe? What would you do, especially if your crew mates start dying?
The Captain fell on his sword. It was ugly, but he did what he needed to do. Now the Navy will do what it thinks it needs to do.

1. A large portion of the crew is in a low risk group, so need to go hair on fire. They're in port, so it should be a simple matter to offload the old farts. Carriers have substantial medical facilities; everybody is trained in biological warfare - he has procedures to follow.
2. His boss sleeps a few steps away from him. If he's got further problems, he should start there. Jumping up and down on the admiral's desk is optional.
3. This occurred under ideal circumstances, in port, in peacetime. If he couldn't cope now, he sure as hell couldn't have underway. When you're at sea, there is no 911. Shit happens, you deal with it, and hopefully don't wind up as the object lesson in a training film.

It is because they don't care about the things they claim to care about.
If Cookie believed what she claims she'd hate Biden as much as Kavanaugh.
But like most lefties she only really has one value she holds....that which empowers the left is good, that which weakens it is bad.
If Biden loses the election because he is a rapist that is bad to her, whereas if Kavanaugh gets destroyed by false charges and a more left leaning SC judge takes his place this is good.
See their actions all make sense once you look at them through this filter.

I camped at a state park shortly after this thing hit and NO ONE was
gathering or doing anything. Everyone practiced "social distancing"
and it wasn't really even a thing yet.

I do not think it is a matter of Abbott being afraid that people will gather and have fun in an unauthorized manner. I think it is a matter of they may be short on park rangers and rescue crews to rescue people who invariably get themselves in trouble in the woods.
