The history behind London's Windmill Theatre.
It was reported last year in London’s Evening Standard that the Windmill Theatre, once celebrated for never closing and still remembered as a major symbol for London’s Blitz spirit, was to be ‘reborn’ as a ‘celebrity cocktail bar’. The building, a stone’s throw from Piccadilly Circus and Shaftesbury Avenue, had actually been empty for a year. The Windmill International Lap Dancing club that advertised itself, improbably, as ‘probably the most exciting men’s club in the world’ had lost its adult entertainment licence when its dancers were found to be flouting the “no touching” rules. The Windmill Theatre started life in 1931 after the Palais-de-Luxe, a former cinema on the corner of Archer Street and Great Windmill Street, was bought the year before and turned into a small theatre by Mrs Laura Henderson. The street, and thus the theatre, had taken its name from a windmill on the site first recorded in 1585 and demolished about 100 years later. Mrs Henderson’s husband, a Bengal Jute merchant, had died in 1919 and left her everything in his will. It was not an insubstantial sum not least because it was estimated that 1.3 billion jute sandbags had been needed during World War One.

A York County woman this week was the first person in Pennsylvania to be cited for violating Gov. Tom Wolf’s stay-at-home order, according to state police. The 19-year-old woman was given a nontraffic citation for allegedly “going for a drive,” according to the citation obtained by Pennlive. State police spokesman Ryan Tarkowski said Friday the woman initially was pulled over because of a vehicle code violation. Warnings have been issued by troopers in Troop A, which includes Westmoreland County, and Troop E in the Erie area, he said. Troopers can use their discretion to decide if a citation is warranted, but they have been encouraged to use contacts with the public as a way to promote voluntary compliance, Tarkowski said.
The Village of Sleepy Hollow is temporarily banning the use of leaf blowers to make sure residents are safe during the coronavirus pandemic. Effective immediately, all leaf blower use is banned for the duration of the pandemic.So I guess kissing my ass is out of the question.
Village officials say since the virus is a respiratory condition, having things blown into the air could create a hazmat situation.

Today marks the day that Law&Crime has seen it all. A suspect dropped a baby off part-way through a police chase in Detroit, Michigan on Monday. No, really! We’re not kidding!
You can see it in the video above. The driver in a red sedan slowed down near a woman in a white shirt. The woman made her way to the vehicle, opened the passenger-side rear door, and pulled out what looked an awful lot like an infant car seat. Well, guess what: There was a 3-month-old baby in there, according to sources cited by Fox 2 Detroit. Cops pulled ground and air units off the scene, but officers attempted to box the red sedan about an hour later. Even so, the driver escaped.
In the past few weeks, the Gary Sinise Foundation’s Emergency COVID-19 Combat Service has donated over 4,000 pieces of equipment to first responders across the country in need of protective gear and key sterilizing equipment.

It's a pain in the rear end, I have beaded lap siding and peeling it and patching it is rough work.
There is only one company that makes the siding and there is never any of it on the east coast, so I've had to at times make my own to replace small sections.

I thought that I was the one who invented the world's first camera hat. I had no idea someone already did it in 1945!
I actually made two of them. The first one was really seat-of-the-pants primitive. But it worked and I used it several times in crucial situations.
The second was much better and slicker. But I finished it right around the time that I stopped zombietiming, so I only ever used it about three times. Still have it, for the future, if needed.
The hardest part was "jailbreaking" the camera's operating system allowing me to operate the shutter by remote control attached to my ring. Very very slick.

I had a client who's house was primarily made with hand tools, it being out in the sticks at the time...early 60's. The designer/architect used some Oriental influences in his design.
Of course, I had to cludge a lot to replace sections of trim and siding, as well as rebuilding some windows. Thankfully I collect antique and vintage woodworking tools so I was able to do a bang up job on his house.

And my wife voices some concern about the patio flooding.
No big deal, says I, because, backyard drains that drain into the front yard and into the street.
Everything is cool, right?
Then, I decide, after looking again, no, not cool.
Crud,
Grab coat, shovel, start trenching and uncovering backyard drains that have grown over. Still working, but, enough water coming out of the sky that I'm not taking any chances.
Then, I walk around the side of the house, where a small lake has formed. I can't decide if I should canoe across the lake or see if I can get it drain properly.
Quick work with a shovel, nice trench to another drain, incipient backyard lake is being reduced in size rapidly.
Oh, I wouldn't have worried so much, but, it's supposed to keep raining for the next few days.

The siding has sections that are 16ft long and are a foot tall with a 1/2 inch bead.
It's very hard to get top quality board stock that's 16ft long.
So I have to get by with 6 to 8 ft sections that I make myself because nobody has these boards ever.
When I can get genuine boards they come from Washington State.

I actually made two of them. The first one was really seat-of-the-pants primitive. But it worked and I used it several times in crucial situations.
The second was much better and slicker. But I finished it right around the time that I stopped zombietiming, so I only ever used it about three times. Still have it, for the future, if needed.
The hardest part was "jailbreaking" the camera's operating system allowing me to operate the shutter by remote control attached to my ring. Very very slick.

Good for you! Funny, that 1945 camera hat looks more like it should be 1915. Bellows cameras had pretty much gone out of common use by then. Thirty-five mm was pretty popular amongst the more dedicated hobbyists, and fixed-focus cameras in 120, 620, 127, and 828 formats were in the popular price brackets. Heck, you could even get a Minox, an actual spy camera.

We have clients on the dreaded "Lockdown" in our housing units that are run as part of our comprehensive rehab models as mandated by DMH (Dept. of Mental Health.) This alone has been triggering some of the clients with emotions of being back in prison. Can't fault them there. My unit's job is to "re-insert them" back into society on productive pathways post incarceration. Now they find themselves feeling like they are back in the cell blocks.....just an Effin no win here right now in spite of our best efforts to bring them food and other authorized distractions..."Board games??? thinking not ...PS2...3? works some.
And then last Friday, he walked out of housing stating "I'm going to get a coat." Staff told him he could not come back without medical clearance which was the latest protocol..
He never came back.
Instead, he did the head dive from a fatal high structure the next night....
I'm praying he was an anomaly...he was getting better/healing so we thought.....How many more weeks?

I've told the story before, but when we came home from vacation she was dead under the coffee table. So I dug a hole and picked her up and as I exited the house heard a noise. I thought that was just the air coming out of her lungs like they say. Put her in the cool fall ground and her leg twitched.
Took her inside and petted her and she seemed to revive. But then I realized it was hopeless and stopped and let her go. She was gone in about 10 minutes. It's like she waited for us to come home and then my touch revived her. Very weird, she has a big place in my heart.

I would say that people are cracking this week. Mostly things seemed ok last week. but this week is apparently when the wheels fall off.
just everyone is walking around in a daze and the stores are looking shabbier and people seem really "off"
the longterm affects of this on the people of PA will be...interesting. not good. If we really go like this until April 30 that's over three more weeks!
and we have nothing open - no construction is allowed so people are living with ripped-out kitchens and bathrooms - no liquor stores - no garden stores - nothing but grocery stores which are now limiting hours. state parks closed. I think we have the most onerous lockdown here. I'm sure Wolf will come up with new ways to punish us soon too.

I have a story kind of like that. I worked at a vet clinic and there was a dog we saw regularly. She had cancer, and the owner brought her in to have her put to sleep; owner's husband was out of town but she was suffering and they didn't want to wait. Anyway, vet gave the dog the shot, and nothing. Gave her another one, nothing. Gave her 2x the normal dose, still nothing. Finally owner said, she's not going to let go until she hears husband's voice. She called husband and put him on speakerphone, and as soon as the dog heard his voice she let go. Vet said she had never seen anything like it.

I think it is because (1) I live two miles from the office and (2) I am able to work from home. Yeah, I found out back in college when I brought some friends home a time or two that folks are indeed different. One guy, born and raised in the city or dense suburbs therearound, just couldn't handle being out in the country with the quiet and open spaces. He was used to hustle and bustle and lots of external stimuli.
Me, that's what I like. I'd go crazy in such an environment. And these folks going crazy in this stay at home thing reminded me of that.

Jazz has a long history, going back to before music recording was invented. The different forms can be quite unlike each other. The hallmark of jazz is "collective improvisation".
Take an hour with the EweToobs, and listen to a bunch of different renditions of "Muskrat Ramble" from different eras. Lots of improvising going on, but they never lose the essence of the tune, which you have probably heard before, even if the name is unfamiliar.

Still getting headaches and the shortness of breath is worse. Gave in and went to the health clinic. Stuck a swab up my nose and told me they'll know in 9 to 14 days. Told me my lungs sounded moderately bad. Gave me an antibiotic rx. Told me to quarantine until I got the results. I laughed at them.

The "Baby Graflex" was by design, a roll film camera. 620 roll in it's original design. Later marques were 120 roll, but otherwise, identical.
Still had the bellows and adjustable front standard.
But a 3/4 scale Speed Graphic, for all intents and purposes.
Which made it perfect for taking pictures of dolphins, of course.

Well, for the first time in nearly 30 years, since before Average Wife and I were married, we're moving more than 10 miles away... SF bay area to San Diego north county. Tomorrow the POD arrives. Hopefully we'll get it loaded by the weekend, then have it sent down Monday. Average Brother and I will drive down 4 days later, taking a U-Haul with AW's '69 Bug in tow, to unload the POD. Average Daughter will drive herself and her pets down, to start her new job on the 20th. I'll drive back, move my tools and some other stuff into storage, and start prepping our house to be rented. AW will go down May 2 or so to start her new Job. I'll stay here through May, at least, to get the house rented (hopefully) while getting as many inspection jobs in as possible, because I'll be starting my business from scratch down there and won't be making a lot of $$ for some time.
Anyway, it's gonna be crazy, and there are a lot of unknowns. Wuhan Flu hysteria won't make it any easier, except for the driving.

Having her at my side in that world, was like having Jerry Mickulek covering your back in a shooting situation.
And the two of us were the fastest of PROFESSIONAL allies and friends.
Never once though, crossed a professional/personal boundary.
Closest it came to that, was when I introduced her to a Bexar County Sherriff's Deputy that I rode with in the Gold Wing world.
Minor spark, but they didn't ignite.
Not to worry. Five years later, she landed a VERY successful construction contractor.
Age 42, and that was her first (and still ONLY) marriage.

The trick with the old popcorn finish is, don't work the roller too much. Load the roller, do about a square foot with N-S strokes, then finish it off with E-W strokes to get a pleasing texture grain. Then leave it. Roll too much, and it starts to lift the old texture. Trying save paint just winds up wasting it.
And a lot of the cracks, splits, seams, and nail holes in the old ceiling have either disappeared, or become inconspicuous. So, a win in my book.

I am in Arizona right now. Why not? No job to go to, still snow on the ground in Alberta, and I will have to into 2 weeks of in-home quarantine upon my return. I am getting useful stuff done here, and the weather is fine. By late April, the old snow should have all melted, although Spring snowfalls are common right through May. But it also melts in a day.

Ah, sorry. Again, I have no idea. I know there are spray primers, but KILZ specifically I am not sure. If you are in a big enough area see if there is a Sherwin-Williams paint store. They would have what you need. Or any actual paint store as opposed to the Big Boxes.

Both my cars need stickers this month. But I have until 06/30 to get a new sticker.

We had storms go thru about 7 PM yesterday. They were promising us tennis ball size hail. I wanted to see that, but luckily we didn't get that.
I moved all my lawn stuff around so I could get the other car in the garage though

Sounds good. I had my knees replaced in September and am looking forward to trying to play again. Of course our shit for brains Gov shut down gold courses too. I wanted to at least get to a driving range
