The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

The scum-sucking imps from hell that are the media can't resist something like this. Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase, in his annual shareholder's report speaks candidly about the challenges facing his bank and America as a result of the Sino-Lung-Rot overreaction.

There is some obvious observation of the short-term difficulties that we face, but there is a significant amount of good news in the report, which is conspicuously absent from this and other articles about it.

Jamie Dimon warns: We're getting a 'bad recession' plus 'financial stress' like the 2008 crisis

“We don’t know exactly what the future will hold — but at a minimum, we assume that it will include a bad recession combined with some kind of financial stress similar to the global financial crisis of 2008,” Dimon said in his annual shareholders letter. “Our bank cannot be immune to the effects of this kind of stress.”
Not until the 14th paragraph do we arrive at a significant bit of information...that the bank is able to lend an additional $150,000,000,000, which is a huge amount, and can materially change the financial landscape of America, post China-Lung-AIDS.

But the shrieking grackles that swarm above every productive American, ready to swoop down and peck and claw at them for the tiniest shred of bad news have no interest in anything remotely good about anyone or anything that has been labelled a target.

They are the enemy, as Ace and J.J. Sefton have so ably documented, and no amount of braying on the part of their talking heads and elitist columnists will change that.

They hate American Exceptionalism, because it shines a cold and unforgiving light on their deepest secrets...that they are unworthy, that they cannot function in a truly egalitarian society. So they must create the artificial divisions of a rich and influential government bureaucracy, elitist and exclusionary universities, gated enclaves, and access to the levers of power that is denied to the real America.

But they can't drive a semi, so how are they going to get their TP deliveries? And they can't change a flat or replace a faucet washer or break down a primal or hang a door or bake bread or put out a fire or field dress a deer or do any of the things that most Americans can do with ease. What they can do is manipulate the news to strike fear into the hearts of Americans, and even that is a fast-declining power.

The whining about the dislocations has been coming disproportionately from the blue enclaves, and that is the silver lining to the entire mess. Keep it up bitches...every day that goes by provides more evidence that you are woefully out of touch with the country you live in, and that you are not terribly important to it.

"What's the sound of 1,000 "journalists" being laid off?

Spot on. Spot on because they are so-called "journalists."

The t-shirt that the Tater was pushing last week - "America needs journalists" - reflects a legitimate message. And on his Twitter responses, many people had the legitimate snark of "let me know when you find some."

These people are not journalists. They are propagandists in the skin suit phase.

One of the consequences of the media and Birx/Fauci mandates is that employees that are in designated essential industries are now starting to rebel and are refusing to come to work due to fear of coronavirus. Spoke to a friend who owns a small grocery store in the sticks and even they have employees who are refusing to come in. And no, you can't fire them. Most states have enacted no retaliation rules in which you cannot fire an employee for refusing to work due to fears of corona virus. No matter how remote it might be they could contract it at work. So they will have employees on unemployment for weeks , at full pay. But no one to actually work.

This really needs to stop soon.

It sure seems like a lot of our so-called "elites" or "experts" - those on tv, online, in magazines, at various thinktanks activist and advocate institutions day in and day out - can't really DO anything. They've just gotten really, really good at pretending to be an expect at the drop of a hat depending on what today's 24x7 news cycle has served up for discussion.

Our supply of these faux experts far, far exceeds the demand for them. I cannot wait for some (most?) of these institutions to hit rock bottom along with so many other productive businesses/industries that are being destroyed by the Wuhan flu -- and these experts' panic and need to fan the flames of fear.

In Oregon, the ER's are guiet, all elective surgeries have been cancelled, and hospital workers are having their shifts reduced.

Of course, Oregon hospitals will be overwhelmed in #twoweeks.

Posted by: rickb223 at April 07, 2020 11:08 AM (hAdu/)

I've been thinking about this the last few days, compared to what my mom told me about what she experienced in WW2. My grandpa was a neighborhood watch person (I forget the title) who went around every night to make sure the neighbors were complying with the blackouts- no lights at all, no driving with headlights, etc. Rations, curfews, roadblocks, business shuttered, etc,( not to mention the Japanese families being shipped off,) I don't know if the threat of a air or sea attack was more real than the threat of WuHan flu devastating our country, but what citizens did then (including ratting out non compliant neighbors) was not considered fascist. There are probably distinctions Im missing, but it is another way to look at today's restrictions.

-----------

Trump has sort of started this, but everytime there is some hope of a return to normal, he takes a step back (e.g., extending the 15 days to 30 days).

Part of me would like to see a Recovery Task Force set up and put out in public. Means there is light at the end of the tunnel.

But part of me also realizes that it means this will go on longer than I want and that the government will have far too much say in the matter.

My preference would be for Trump to just say the curve is flat, its time to get back to work and let the governors start doing it.

If Texas leads, the others will follow. These governor are nothing but followers who want the cover of their fellow governors.

The Gell-Mann effect is some weird shit.

For most of life, journalism as a profession has been distrusted by the majority of Americans, but in recent years they've augured in so hard that I'm starting to smell sulfur.

Almost any American under the age of 70 will tell you "no, of course I don't trust those lying, incompetent crooks."

And yet, when the media say "trust on this - you have to spike the entire country's economy and give up your freedom to work and freedom to travel and then get laid off and go broke and go on the dole or YOU WILL DIE," then people believe it anyway. Even without any evidence of a serious epidemic coming.

Last year Gannett was taken over by New Media (with the new company still called Gannett) in a huge merger, creating the largest print media company in the US. They publish USA Today and dozens of prominent city papers across the country. (a partial list is on Wiki) We were discussing this on the early thread - advertising revenue is collapsing across the country, as small businesses are closing. When this is piled on top of the huge debt the company took on to finance the merger/takeover last year, I do not see how Gannett, or it's publications, survive, except in very limited, online only versions. They simply are not going to have the cash to make payroll.

'Exponential' gets thrown around a lot, implying that it will increase at that level up to infinity. Which, of course, it won't.

FDA has rules here in US that do not apply overseas. We had a better tolerate antibiotic (eye drops) that really needed a steroid to be effective for most cases. I worked for the company 3 years and finally got it out the door by building a new line just for that drug. Added about 3 bucks/bottle to our cost.

That should have been the worst of what they did.

Often, in these cases, they extorted the Banks and Forced them into doing the same thing all over again.

Diamond is ready to suck hundreds of billions, if not trillions, away for the banks. He'll be using the "liquidity" bullshit argument, saying that if the banks have the cash, they'll get it into the hands of the people.

If you want liquidity, pay off all the mortgages, student loans, credit card and consumer debt of everyone in the country with the assets our country has stored up. Direct help to the sector of our economy that will make the economy thrive.

Give it to the banks, airlines, big business, foundations, local governments or anyone else and the money will be pissed away without any improvement to the people.

-
I've visited the ruins of such a camp near Granada, CO, the ancestral homeland. There is a small monument to an internee who was awarded a MOH posthumously. Both my parents grew up near there although my father was off fighting the Nazis during the period of the camp. My mother was in high school at the time and remembered the camp. The internees had sports teams that competed against local schools. There was at least one Japanese festival held at the camp that the locals attended.

I remain unconvinced that the evacuations were or should have been unconstitutional but see them more as Lincoln's suspension of habeas corpus justified by necessity. Regardless, they were not Auschwitz.

Untouchable and for many years a dumping ground for ex-democrat loyalists, a place where they can go, do mischief and collect multimillion dollar checks. This is a common trait in leftism.
I've told this story before but...
Our local Boy Scouts Association in the late 70 fired one of their staffers/troop leaders because he was a homo and had some questions about abusing boys. Well the local leftists switched into high gear with the homophobia and how bad the Boy Scouts were blah.. blah.. blah. The SJW DA threatened the local BSA and forced them to hire the homo back.
Then a couple of boys made the sexual abuse charge and the SJW DA prosecuted the rehired homo and also sued the local BSA for rehiring him.
It was a perfect Mobius Strip of leftist insanity.

A concise precis of the situation. What's wrong with that formula is that it derived from the wildly unreal liberal do-gooder sentiment that giving the underclass the trappings of middle class life would somehow, mystically, transport them into the middle class. The liberals failed to grasp that people have middle class trappings because they have middle class values (respect for education, hard work, obeying laws, etc.), not the other way around.

Otherwise, I'd just get a Yankees uniform and then I'd be the starting pitcher for the Yankees on opening day, whenever that may be this year.

UFC: Dana White says fights to go ahead on private island

Dana White has criticised the lockdown in parts of the United States

UFC president Dana White says he is close to securing a private island to continue hosting fights during the coronavirus crisis.

White says UFC 249 will go ahead on 18 April at an undisclosed location.

The organisation was forced to postpone three events in recent months, but White says the calendar will resume for international fights this month.

"As of April 18, the UFC is back up and running," White told the American entertainment news website TMZ.

He said he is "a day or two" away from finding a location to start hosting fights.

With countries tightening travel restrictions and borders, White plans to use a private island to fly in fighters who otherwise would not be able to get into the United States.

You're right. The Dave Ramsey's of the world get the short end of the stick on this. The reason it's designed like that isn't to reward people for living an exemplary life, but to inject the capital it's going to take to return the economy to something above a depression.

Those that did everything right will benefit from the strong economy, but just like the rich who basically carry no individual debt, there isn't any injection of cash.

467 Without Fannie and the Fed, the 2008 thing would have been orders of magnitude smaller. And it was no secret to anyone with a clue. We had a commenter here at the time from the industry, she provided some detail and color on how Fannie had created, with great force and aggression, a ridiculous ticking time-bomb that most veterans in the business regarded as insane from the first minute. And the Fed (Timmy up at the NY Fed, largely) made it a global disaster.

Played hockey with a guy from Fannie, he and his friends there were talking about this idiocy a couple of years *before* the final collapse.

But Franklin Raines made $100M overseeing this idiocy, and said he'd gotten to a scratch golf game, and his Bermuda house sounded beautiful, so it's all good.

530 An important part of "American Exceptionalism" is that we're the only country that invests in the free market to the extent that we do.

The free market and private ownership allow a distribution of capital and a diversification of enterprise (in the truest sense of the word "enterprise"). It is de-centralized, not centralized.

Our economy is less rigid and more adaptable.

Two people in congress who were probably most responsible for regulation that led to meltdown -Messers. Dodd and Frank, ended up in jail. Oh, so sorry, I misspoke, not jail, on the committee that gave us Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The irony is bitter.

The meaning behind each is similar in this instance, however.

Trump is getting played by the people around him, constantly, every day.

President Trump has made it abundantly clear the federal guidelines are just that, guidelines and closing down states is up to the governor. What's unspoken is that governors also have the discretion to keep their state open for business.

Which a governor should do sooner, rather than later.

551 I need some advice.

Sunday is Easter and I really want to go have dinner with my parents. It would just be the three of us and possibly another couple. I'm not sick, no one there is sick, and we aren't overly concerned about it - granted there is SOME concern, but not a lot. Also, my birthday is Saturday.

Now, we've gone back and forth about it - them telling me don't come, they don't want me to get caught travelling (it's about a two-hour drive) - but this would be the first Easter in 22 years I didn't spend with them.

My mother told me it's up to me whether I go or not. I'm just not sure. I know the police will probably be watching for people travelling particularly on that day. On the other hand, I could make up any excuse, such as I'm taking my "homebound parents" some food, or whatnot.

Again, I know I guess I should be concerned about asymptomatic transmission, etc, but I've been meticulous about everything and have no symptoms (but I personally believe I already had the shit in February).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

554 A lot of towns in Northern Iowa changed their names around WW 1 to be 'less German sounding'.

Yeah, my grandfather changed the name of our family. As his father had, on arrival, 40 years before. I like to tell people we've changed our last name more often than we've changed the first name.

WWI was the end for Lutheran services in German. Had been the regular thing in several synods right up until then. And if you published a church newspaper or newsletter in German or any central- or east-European language, you had to submit a certified interpreter's English copy to the postal inspectors for clearance before you could mail that paper as Second Class matter. Some people were arrested for seditious content, too.
