Beginner Problem - Black To Play (606) Goal: Black can force a mate in 3 moves Hint: Weaken White's king-side pawns for forcing an advance rn2k2r/p4p2/b2p1np1/2pPb2p/Nq6/NB3P2/PP1B2PP/R2QK2R b KQkq - 0 1 WIM Arianne Caoili (1986-2020)
Intermediate Problem - White To Play (592) It looks grim for White. It's the endgame and he's down a rook. How can he avoid losing? And that question is a hint at the strategic goal you need to pursue. Advanced Problem - White To Play (580) If there's anything I like better than a tricky endgame, it's a tricky endgame I actually understand. How does White win from this position, even with Black making the best possible moves? I've experimented with this problem enough where I *think* I understand what's going on and hopefully will be able to explain why wrong answers are wrong answers. Or, maybe I've missed a critical line. We'll see. 8/8/b7/7p/P2P4/3k3B/8/K7 w - - 0 1 Dress Pr0n For The 'Ettes:

It's actually readable by humans. Most computer applications nowadays can read FEN, so those of you who may want to study the position, you can copy the line of FEN and paste into your chess app and it should automatically recreate the position on its display board. Or, Windows users can just "triple click" on it and the entire line will be highlighted so you can copy and paste it into your chess app. ___________ So that about wraps it up for this week. FLOTUS appeared alongside President Donald Trump at the White House on Saturday evening in a formfitting, long-sleeve dress made entirely out of white sequins. She was celebrating the spirit of the holiday season at the 2018 Congressional Ball.
The style was from Celine's spring 2018 collection—the last one designed by Phoebe Philo, before Hedi Slimane took over and removed the accent from the first "e." It appeared on the runway during Paris Fashion Week last fall. The long-sleeve white gown is a reflection of Philo's 10-year tenure at Celine: formal and polished, but streamlined and unfussy. She paired the sleek, form-fitting piece with a simple metallic pointy-toe heels. Posted by: Margarita DeVille at April 04, 2020 05:45 ------------------------------- Correct. Kate, 36, looked stunning as she joined Prince William at the Tusk Conservation Awards at Banqueting House, London on Thursday night. The mother-of-three recycled a sea green floor length lace gown by British designer Jenny Packham for the event this evening which she had initially worn back in 2012 to a gala event at the Royal Albert Hall to mark the countdown to the London Olympic Games. Despite the fact that she has since given birth to three children the elegant ballgown still fitted like a glove as she stepped onto the red carpet today. And Kate stuck to what she knows when it came to her accessories too, carrying the same custom-made clutch bag she was seen with back in 2012. Kate also opted for the same 'Vamp' sandals from Jimmy Choo that she wore when she debuted the dress. She mixed up her look slightly by swapping the elegant chignon she had originally opted to have for tumbling curls framing her face perfectly. Kate wore a pair of dazzling pair of chandelier diamond earrings and a further element of sparkle was added in the form of her bejeweled waistband Posted by: olddog in mo, uckfay ancercay at April 04, 2020 05:59 PM (Dhht7) 82

never learned even basic Chess. I guess I know how each piece can move but that is about it. After that it is a frontal assault... I never much cared for Chess because it was a game where everything was too evenly matched (other than wits perhaps). My philosophy is that if you're in a fair fight you've badly miscalculated and need to withdraw and wait to fight another day. Heh. Sad news. WIM Arianne Caolli died on Mar 30 due to a car crash in Yerevan a few weeks ago. She was the wife of GM Levon Aronian. She was 33.
-- Bill Wall Chess Page (@billwallchess) April 1, 2020 Are you f-ing kidding me??? That's terrible news. Holy cow. Horrible. Arianne Caoli was the focus of one of the most legendary off-board incidents in recent years. She was playing in some international big tournament about ten years ago when she was in her early 20s and the among the "hottest" chess-girls on the circuit. All the guys were lusting after her. Levon Aronian was really flirting with her one night, and getting her attention as he was at the time among the top three players in the world, vying for the World Champion slot. In the middle of their flirting, a lower-rated British International Master, Daniel Gormally, was drunk and tried to elbow in on Aronian's action. Aronian was not having any of it, and a fistfight erupted. Aronian laid Gormally out flat on his back with a nice uppercut. It was one of the few times pro chessplayers actually came to blows over a woman. Caoli must have been impressed, because form that night forward she became Aronian's girlfriend, and then later his wife. Unbelievably nightmarish that she died so young. Third problem is hard. I'm too lazy to figure it out all the way.
First of all, B-B1+ KxP BxB doesn't work because black then goes K-B6! If then P-R4, K-N5 and he takes the last pawn for a draw. If instead B-N5, then K-N5, K-N1 P-R5 and white eventially must move the bishop to step the rook pawn, undefending his own rook pawn, and allow black to capture it, again a draw. So the only other logical first move then is P-Q5, followed by K-Q5 P-Q6 and then its complicated and I'm too lazy to figure it out. Posted by: zombie at April 04, 2020 06:16 PM (N9G0H) 164

I
never much cared for Chess because it was a game where everything was too evenly matched (other than wits perhaps). My philosophy is that if you're in a fair fight you've badly miscalculated and need to withdraw and wait to fight another day. Heh. Posted by: LGoPs the former boyscout who now shouts Broken Arrow!, Broken Arrow! at April 04, 2020 05:59 PM (j42ZK) that is an interesting perspective. I always thought the reason chess is not a good gambling game is because the better player wins most of the time I guess it is even if people of the same skill play but my understanding is that a weak player will almost always lose to a strong player. The reason poker is so dangerous is the variability gives the weak players false hope. Then again the variability can crush a strong player too. It is a double edged sword for sure. I kind of look at Chess as more of a sport than a game. It is a test of who is better and that is that. It is like a foot race. I already said I can't play the game a lick so that is just a non players impression and it could be all wet. Posted by: Quint at April 04, 2020 06:18 PM (hHxp2) 171
In law wanton negligence is the same culpability as manslaughter by any other means.
What the ChiComs did to us was exectly that. People went nuts over PG&E when a fire started on an unusually windy day in an usual dry spell that was caused by a broken piece of equipment. Seems the equipment maintenance had been not good enough. Visual from from ground inspection was insufficient to detect faults. Felony manslaughter...was the legal finding. China is culpable here. They need brought to the bar. They will refuse to bear responsibility. But...This should be a warning to all that monkey around with deadly pathogens, chemicals, nuclear materials. 170 I
never much cared for Chess because it was a game where everything was too evenly matched (other than wits perhaps). Posted by: Quint at April 04, 2020 06:18 PM (hHxp2) LGoPS is obviously a student of Sun Tzu. She's right about choosing when to fight -- in real life. When I were a wee lad, I got tired of playing board games where you won if you rolled higher dice or got a lucky card or the spinner thing landed on a high number for you. I thought, why can't there be a game where they player who thinks better and can devise a better strategy, wins. And that's why I gravitated to chess. I'm going to exhibit enough native suspicion to rate Caoili's car crash as "questionable." She had quite a personal history -- former model, dance contestant in Australia, financial analyst, and a PhD candidate in Russian foreign affairs. She was working as an adviser to the Armenian prime minister. What a movie her life would make, except wouldn't the world be more exciting and beautiful with her still in it.

I think you got it right, but I can't decipher your notation. "1)BxBc6" means that a Bishop is capturing a bishop on the c6 square, but there are no bshops on the board, so ?? I think you mean Rxc6, which is proper algebraic notation.
And then there's zombie, who does everything in English Descriptive Notation, but that's because he's an old pharte who won't change with the times. Orangemanbad is a sickness. It infects the brain and prevents intelligent processing of information.
I was one of the people who's reaction was "Who says" back with Obamaphiles parroted Obama saying we were "spending too much of our economy on health care costs". I argued that medicare has a singular value and as much of 100% value to the person involved. But now the people who were perfectly accepting of grandma taking a pain pill in her "last year of life", want to sacrifice the entire economy over "if only one life is saved" among pretty much the same demographic that they wanted to ice floe under Obama. That's another reason why I can't side with liberals. I have no idea what I would have to believe next year. Posted by: Axeman at April 04, 2020 06:33 PM (Eicbe) 218

Posted by: OregonMuse, AoSHQ Thought Leader, Pants Monitor & Social Distancing Professional at April 04, 2020 07:09 PM (k3bqH) I guess, white bishop can take black bishop from c8, then pawn on a4 to a8 for queen. Game thread!
I'm on an Imperial-occupied planet in "Fallen Order". Got pretty far along. Hint-without-spoiler: there's an option to strike an enemy from above, the "square" button on the PS4. Use that for the tougher beasts. Another hint-without-spoiler: It's allowed to return to earlier planets after finishing their main story and going to a new planet. This, to open chests and kill monsters you couldn't on your first run. If I'd known these hints I'd have wasted less time trying to beat an impossible monster / looking for impossible routes on that first world (not counting the scrapmetal planet, that's the training-mission). ''Hey haven't posted much here in a while. Anybody have any recommendations on finger prosthetics? Just f'n cut off my middle and index fingers on my right hand while working on an engine. Basically at first knuckles. Docs can't reattach. ''
Only a 'ron would blow off self amputation like it was no worse than skinning a knee. Seriously, OMG. Did the doctors refer you to a prosthetics guy? Posted by: Tuna at April 04, 2020 07:58 PM (gLRfa) 380
wooga, how did that happen? Fan blade?

British American Tobacco (BTI) shot up this week on news they are working on a tobacco based covid vaccine.
this is probably news to many but some tobacco companies have been working on ways to use the plant for drugs/medicine for many years. I think they have had some successes too but I don't know the details or even the broad brush facts. Posted by: Quint at April 04, 2020 07:59 PM (hHxp2) 382

Belt wasn't moving. Poked it. Moved a little. Poked it again. Moved a little. Poked one more time, and belt moved fully, pulling my fingers into pulley wheel. I found middle finger, not index but it wouldn't have mattered.
I could use prayer. Specifically that they don't have to amputate. Posted by: wooga at April 04, 2020 08:06 PM (h2Viw) 385
Prayers up, wooga.

Middle finger will be stump. My worry is index, as the nature of cut means it might retain functionality if I'm lucky, unless they remove knuckle.

wooga, in some cases, surgeons can transplant a toe to the hand. met a guy who had lost his thumb, and had his big toe transplanted to replace it. He didn't have 100% use of it, but makes out OK.

They reattached hers, but she had 9 pins in her index finger, the middle finger screwed back on and the ring finger reattached. She can't use them very well, but did get them put back on. Long story short....don't know anything about prosthetics. Posted by: Sponge - China is asshoe! at April 04, 2020 08:10 PM (Zz0t1) 390

For example, 1...Kh7 I think you see the right idea. But how do you proceed after Kh7?
