Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Politico: Could Trump Try to Cancel The Election?Compare these two headlines: The media is nothing but nonsense clickbait and outrage-farming. They are not serious, and they are unworthy. I'm not linking the media any longer. Here's some soft shit Politico crapped out: Will a president with authoritarian tendencies actually try to suspend a constitutionally mandated presidential election? That’s the question Americans asked in the spring and summer of 1970. At the end of the 1960s, a wave of violence--domestic terrorism, urban riots, assassinations and rising crime--set the public on edge. A presidential panel, decrying a national “crisis of violence,” found that 41,000 bombings or bomb threats had occurred in the U.S. in the preceding 15 months. Richard Nixon—whose abuses of presidential power would ultimately lead to his resignation—struck his critics as so heedless of democratic norms and the rules of fair play that he was capable of attempting almost anything. After 2000 words stoking fears that Trump would seize power, the article admits he probably won't -- but he still might. It is very unlikely that Trump could get away with postponing the November elections; who knows if he even wants to try. But as the Nixon example shows, that doesn't mean we won't all be talking about this as a live possibility as our crisis worsens. Presidents who make a show of flouting norms and arrogating power shouldn't be surprised when large portions of the population assumes that when the crunch comes, they’ll do more of the same."This conspiracy theory is probably untrue but that doesn't mean we shouldn't continue propagating it for maximum political value." The same media that deplatforms competitors and critics for pushing alleged conspiracy theories and misinformation sure does rely on conspiracy theories and misinformation for their revenue. Haven't they said this on and on before over and over again? What a joke Politico is. I never, ever read their crap.

Trump is not a small government guy, and he's never been one. The only way small government manifests in him is in terms of regulation.
He's small government only in this sense: he wants a more efficient, streamlined government. Not small in terms of liberty or philosophy, but in terms of effectiveness and waste. He is shrinking the size of agencies left and right, he's cutting back on spending through that, but not because he believes its constitutional or better in terms of liberty. I'll take what I can get. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 27, 2020 01:58 PM (KZzsI) 22

Other than the idiotic DHS, Bush the younger did try, at least with congress. Every budget he submitted was balanced and shrunk spending. Every time it was ignored and bloated spending was passed. Where are these "deaths" occurring? Mostly in the ghetto. And no, I can't tell anyone it's absolutely NOT going to kill millions of people the world over. I just don't believe it's going to, based on years of experience dealing with infectious diseases... and common sense. Still, who's going to listen to me. Posted by: JoeF. at March 27, 2020 02:31 PM (CqE5x) --- I'm not that conservative myself, either--other than of the Constitutional (agreed-upon) form of government. But the Democratic Party is a stain on America. FDR came as close to a dictator as America has ever seen, required frequent re-licensing of media organizations to keep his thumb on them and all this was passed down through the decades. He put American citizens in camps with no more than an Executive Order. Of course all that "SWITCHED" in 68, you know? That's why they impeached Nixon for doing exactly what he knew Johnson did pre-68. Because all that power had SWITCHED in 68, you know? The President can call a special session of Congress. What he can't do is order them to do anything.
Trying might just be an impeachable offense. For too long the courts have run roughshod over both Executive branch powers and have taken legislative power from the Congress because those lazy bastards mostly scheme their way into pork and cushy jobs if, they are ever kicked out by voters or retire. GW Bush refused to fight back at all and was trampled. Now that we have a fighter in the White House he is taking maximum care to not set off any ACME traps. When I recommend that Trump veto this bill and hang (mostly democrats) congress out to dry, it isn't just to win this election. Trump could pull a game changer on a national scale, turn traditionally blue state red and switch a few of the long-democrat victim groups over to the right. Chuck the 1200 bucks and at least double it. Send it to everyone immediately. If you need to means test something later, then do it later, but for now, get as much money as humanly possible in the hands of ordinary people and small business. Trump should stay on national TV while the senate and house are locked down and continue to shame them and their pork projects until they come up with the new clean bill. It would work. Either they're dupes, or puppets, or part of the "coup". Reductio ad absurdum - instant, in this case. Or, perhaps, they're decision-makers making tough calls with imperfect info. I have said it here before, but the left is confused by how obsequious DJT appears toward anyone he is negotiating with. He did it yesterday in the presser by not attacking Pelosi or Xi.
This is a strategy. Why make someone you are trying to negotiate with get all emotional and hate you? At the same time he is relentless and very direct in attacking people like in the press or political opponents (mini mike, slow joe, rino romney,...) because he wants and expects nothing from them. This is all strategy, but it can make him seem like a bully. The press wants people like TFG who are phony, and DJT is not phony. I'm not that concerned about the virus, I think it'll be mostly finished by May 1. But these shutdowns - the economy is NOT built to handle that, and we were looking at the total collapse of our markets, our pensions, our job markets, in due course our society. I think part of his personality is based on the wall street idea of being a BSD (big swinging dick) who simply does not care what others think or are doing. He does what he thinks is right and does not care about appearances. He does care to the extent that if he is negotiating with a person he does not criticize them to make them hate him, but he doesn't care how it looks to the public. He also points out press unfairness a lot, but that is because the *injustice* bothers him, not what they think. It bothers him that we live in a world where they get away with this shit. Where they get paid for this shit. Where they are too stupid to see the fucking problems being created by their ideology. That bothers a lot of people but Trump has no problem pointing it out. See the whole "I am an ordinary red-blooded conservative American who voted for Reagan 6 times and think people aren't panicking enough so I'll go onto Ace of Spades for the first time in my life and try to scare people" is a pretty weak approach. That's not exactly going to get people to take you seriously even if you really are being honest.

Ace, as I've mentioned before - you should archive the links to these shill outlets. I hate clicking Rolling Stone and NYT and WaPo and the rest of them when you do post. So invariably, I never read the "article". An archived link 1) will mean only you need to go to the site (which presumably you already have) and 2) freeze their lies for posterity. Gentlemen, this .... - Trump does have a distinctive and at first odd habit that describe perfectly. He butters up counterparts in an ongoing negotiation or relationship (regardless of what he probably really thinks of them), to a degree that's jarring, especially for a president dealing with a foreign leader. This is a set pattern, but it actually has a bit of extra real value with China, where even ritualistic expressions of respect matter.
The sometimes equally jarring trash talk to such as Romney is just refreshing NYC businessman mouth. Posted by: rhomboid at March 27, 2020 02:59 PM (El6T/) 537

I suspect I've been too thin-skinned responding to people who claim this is all a hoax and a scheme of democrats and Chinese communists. I've seen the evidence of this and it's unconvincing to me. I think though that Trump understands, like Tucker understands, that 'Salus populi suprema lex esto' - which is why Trump hasn't totally clamped down and done something like trying to shut down the whole country. The economy is secondary to physical well-being, but still part of the health of our people. I don't doubt that the Chinese and Democratic Party would love to take advantage of this crisis, but I don't see how they're presently being successful. The facts don't support this thesis, I believe. I think everyone is getting f--ked hard by this thing with or without economic damage. He and yes, I'm not trying to scare-monger here. I don't know what is going to happen and hope the current measures will be successful in reducing deaths/side effects.
Posted by: Radio Control Submarine Unit at March 27, 2020 03:00 PM (IB++I) I think they, democrats/media, are not letting this crisis or any crisis go to waste. I think it was an unknown known when started and we needed time to asses what happened. It was , still is an unstable event. On 9/11 we closed air traffic completely, because we did not know what was in the sky, how many were highjacked and how many more were going to slam into buildings and kill people. Viral disease that takes lives is harder to control. Posted by: runner at March 27, 2020 03:05 PM (zr5Kq) 589

I don't think it was done intentionally, no way would anyone have guessed we would have reacted this way. Where we differ is that I think this will turn out to be no more than another H1N1 event, which is how we should have treated it.
Now economically, I see our reaction (as Trump does) as an Extinction Level Event, but even there, I think it's being driven by cowardice, fear, and a complete inability of our society to deal with risk on a rational basis. The faster we can get rid of these shutdowns, the better off we all will be. Posted by: Tom Servo at March 27, 2020 03:03 PM (trdmm) Personally I think they should have immediately shut down air travel and then from there decided on county-by-county basis what places to shut down. But I suspect our organization isn't good enough to pull this off. "oh no, green line go down" drives so much decision-making, while nowadays the average person's well-being is so disconnected from the stock market that it's laughable. Posted by: Margarita DeVille at March 27, 2020 03:07 PM (M/9m0) You gotta be realistic about this. Cuomo himself seems like he could do a good job, much better than Biden, and is less likely to be just a puppet (like Clinton or Biden would necessarily be.) However, the biggest gains we can possibly get from a R presidency are the change in judiciary positions, both federal and supreme courts. Until we get RBG swapped out with someone reasonably more conservative, and this hasn't happened yet. However, I don't vote so for me this is just commentary on sports. Cuomo is rather reminiscent of Breznev, isn't he? Posted by: Radio Control Submarine Unit at March 27, 2020 03:11 PM (IB++I) 606

I'd love to know where those idiots at Politico got that crap about Nixon. I was around back in 1970, and the fact is Nixon was pretty popular at that point in his presidency, at least with the non-Communist crowd. The whole Watergate thing did not come to pass for another couple of years, and in 1970 at least, there was no one complaining about any "abuses of power" by him. Indeed, the main bitch the Commies had was that he was not pulling out of Vietnam fast enough to suit them. He did get us out of Vietnam, but the peace treaty was not signed until January of '73.
In fact, Nixon was never what you'd call a really "conservative" president. The only ones who were really on the prod for him were the usual Marxist bomb throwing Billy Ayers gang and the Black Power Uber Alles crowd.
