Woody Allen issues this emphatic statement should put an end to rumors he likes having sex with children he's sharing a home with:

A bitter Woody Allen blasts his ex-girlfriend Mia Farrow for her "Ahab-like quest" to destroy him with sex abuse allegations and describes his romance with his current wife, Soon-Yi Previn, in graphic terms in his new memoir.

And then, to prove how not-attracted to children living in his home he is, he segueways to talking about the very hot groping sessions he had with his babymama's barely-legal adoptive daughter:

"At the very early stages of our new relationship, when lust reigns supreme... we couldn’t keep our hands off each other," Allen writes of Previn in "Apropos of Nothing," which came out Monday to little fanfare.

So you see -- it's all perfectly normal and wholesome!

No bailouts for Hollywood. Not one red cent.

15 Its not that Woody is particularly repulsive in himself, like Michael Moore or something. Its just there's no way a cute teenaged girl will lust after a short dumpy middle-aged man's body so much she cannot "keep her hands off" him. No way unless forced or groomed into it as a youngster.

"This is a stupid plan. Don't let your kid go."

Alternatively, you could warn the kid that his struggle to escape the state--with state troopers, the National Guard, and a sinister agency that Steven Spielberg always manages to leave nameless will ruthlessly pursue him--but his struggle will be successful, he will escape, he'll become friends with a motley pack of enduringly nerdy kids, and it'll be the greatest adventure of his life, so, well, go for it.

118 Urgent question for the Horde. One of my boyfriend's kids is scheduled to go see his mom next week. My boyfriend is NOT canceling the trip, despite the kid flying INTO A HOT ZONE. They have just announced that state is shutting down. Rumors are they might close the border. His ex is an irresponsible parent, and the kid might get stuck there, with a bad parent, for a long time. I'm at my wit's end. He won't change the plans.

My last batch of slow-cooked beans (one may even dare say, "chili") is nearly gone. I have every ingredient aside from two: bell peppers, and onion. If I am unable to procure these ingredients, I may have to do the unthinkable and... chop up some carrots and throw those in for texture.

Desperate times and all that. Cannibalism will undoubtedly set in shortly thereafter.

125 Play it Again Sam is one of my favorite movies. Woody isn't lusting after an underage girl in that one - he's only lusting after his best friends wife. And the Bogie character is a good stand-in for the audience in that he's telling Allen to quit being such an annoying twerp. It's a nice self-acknowledgement from Allen that yes, he is an annoying twerp.

147 San Francisco, the Chinese New Year Parade, February 7th, a week after Trump shut down travel from China:

In response to allegations of xenophobia and discrimination toward the Chinese community following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, which originated in Wuhan, China, city leaders stressed that the risk of contracting the virus remains low.

"Certainly there's more chance of you catching the flu more than anything else," said Board of Supervisors President Norman Yee.

"Sometimes we create fear, and sometimes it's rightfully so, but... the creation of this fear is unfounded," he said. "These are not the values of San Francisco, especially when you portray a whole group of people as contagious."

Department of Public Health Director Grant Colfax reminded residents that although there have been six confirmed cases statewide, including two in the Bay Area, "At this time there is no newly diagnosed case of coronavirus in San Francisco."

"I would say to follow the standard flu precautions," he said, such as washing hands, covering coughs and getting a flu shot.

He added that event-goers shouldn't worry about wearing masks or bringing children to the parade because of the virus.

Eight weeks later, San Francisco has 152 cases.

I'm not sure this is your call. You can give advice, but when it comes down to it, this is between the kid's father and mother. It's their decision, not yours.

If you gave him all the facts and he still wants to allow his son to go visit his mom, that's really his decision.

If I were in the same situation, I'd tell a girl I was dating the risks of sending her son into a hot zone and the risks of not being able to see her son again for a long time if things get worse and states shut down.

But, after that, it would be up to them.

He has full custody; like I said his spouse is irresponsible. But what judge will rule against a parent refusing to send their kid into a hot zone? It's potentially child endangerment?

He has gone through hell and high water for his kids; he sacrifices so much for them, and has rescued them before from bad parenting situations. So his devotion to their well being is usually above reproach. That is why this is utterly baffling to me.

187 In most war game scenarios what's happening in NYC is typically predictable. As supply tightens or restrictions increase people who are mobile. Start to leave the city which has limited supply lines, egress and access. They will first spread out to areas where they have homes or relatives. As things start to get more desperate, people will start moving to the suburbs to either escape or gain access to supplies. As things become more desperate or supplies become more limited there is the inevitable confrontations.

Right now NYC is in a limited form of this scenario. People are fleeing where they can. Many of them have irresponsibility fled to older parents and their communities in Florida. That will make Florida the next area of geographic covid 19 growth and due to the age of people, deaths. It's already being reported that NYC residents are going to the suburbs and cutting into their limited supply. Most counties have now placed limits on certain goods, but that won't be enough. You now have people gaming the limits by bringing multiple family members. If not stopped, we will get to the next stage as local residents experience limited supply or their infection rates rise due to the interlopers.

Anyway, that's how it works.

========

I'm pretty sure I've seen some tightening on older establishment types that didn't leave them looking like freaks. That old Bloomingdale chick for example. These old ladies who wear Chanel suits to lunch at fabulous New York restaurants and live gracious lives of bygone days have smooth necks and jaws but they don't have the look of eyes that never close. I watch a lot of fashion videos on YouTube and that's where I see it.

I suspect those old gals know when/where to quit. Don't go crazy on the eyes and the fillers seems like a good guideline, but these celebrities just go crazy and actually wind up as stock examples of the most notorious cosmetic surgery mistakes. Trout-pout, pillow-face, etc.

260 On the Jeremy Renner sidebar piece. Well, ugh.

The "Hawkeye" star filed a request on Monday in Los Angeles to lower his child support payments since many of the productions he had lined up this year are "likely canceled or postponed" due to the outbreak, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.
Renner, 49, currently pays his ex, Sonni Pacheco, about $30,000 a month for their 6-year-old daughter Ava's housing, food, transportation and clothing. He has requested the payments be lowered to $11,000.

Housing, food, transportation and clothing for a 6 year-old kid commands $360,000 a *year*? On what damn planet? Forget being out of work (though that is probably a legitimate complaint - no movies in production right now, thus no paychecks) $30 grand per month in child support is outrageous on its face, I don't care how rich you are. Hell, at the amount he's *asking* for, it amounts to $132,000 per year. Most people supporting entire families don't come within spitting distance of even that "paltry" figure.

I would really recommend Radio Days. Allen narrates it, the plot being a series of vignettes about him growing up in Rockaway Beach, and how his family were constantly listening to music, comedies and soap operas on the radio.

It is actually a very sweet, nostalgic movie, and if you didn't know it was an Allen movie, you wouldn't connect it with him.

It has Josh Mostel, Seth Green, Danny Aiello, Mia Farrow, Diane Keaton, Julie Kavner and many others, as well as Kenneth "Franz Liebkind" Mars as a crusty old rabbi.

I'm looking at economic data now, and the surge in grocery sales is amazing. Year over year, sales are up a ridiculous amount. Over 100% in some states. (however, a few states are down YoY -- AK, Maine, Michigan, and Vermont -- don't know why. Was last year there somehow different).

The demand surge is starting to affect prices. If this keeps up, we're gonna have significant price increases at the grocery stores.

I'm seeing analysts worrying about Fed money printing going to fiscal cash helicopter drops to consumers going to continue pushing panic demand. Inflation would be the result. Big Time.

--Woody Allen
---------------------------------
Soon-Yi was not under-aged.
She was NOT Allen's adopted daughter.
She rarely saw Allen nor lived under the same roof when she was a kid.

Let me tell you something about Mia Farrow. Her show-biz parents didn't have much time for her. They were just too busy. But when Mia really needed someone, the one person she could turn to, the one person who would find time for her, was her godmother, Dorothy Previn.
You know how Mia repaid the kindness, of course --- by stealing Dorothy's husband.

So Mia rescues Soon-Yi from the gutter --- and you see how that girl repaid her.

Two POS women.

How fitting they will forever be associated with a POS man.

I haven't seen my husband and youngest daughter for six(6)weeks and counting. I am at my dad's house (after being with my mom in hospice), and he is 88 and in poor health.

Sounds like the same reason why we can't get rid of the FBI. All those God fearing America loving ham and eggers that are held hostage by the machine.

Fuck that. They can learn to code like the rest of us. I assume the make-up artists and carpenters and such and figure out alternate ways to make ugly people pretty and frame walls instead of movie sets and such.

Everybody picks what they do for a living. Nobody is drafted.

Offsetting the food part is the collapse of restaurant sales. Food going there is just getting diverted to grocery production. Also, they're reducing our own food exports to cover domestic demand surges.

Non food grocery items, TP, cleaners etc, are a different story.

The income phaseouts depend on family size. It's $75,000 for single filers, $150,000 for married filing joint and $112,500 for head of households (single with children).

@NKaeding

These payments are based on income. There are other provisions related to employment. My colleagues tell me that unemployment benefits are expanded until the end of July, for example.

@NKaeding

Payments will start going out to folks as soon as Treasury is able. Historically, it's been 6-8 weeks, but the bill allows for direct deposits. So it might be faster than the past.

375 Oh, good, we're over 100. I Willowed myself in the last thread and I want to share my rant again

Once, back through the nigh-impenetrable time-curtain of the 1990s, back from a legendary, mythical time, almost before the knowledge of modern society, ruled over the land fear of an inevitable nuclear (or nucular, depending on your location) war with, not Russia, but with a vanished civilization called the USSR, a deadly (mostly to its own subjects) socialist/communist dictatorship.

My one consolation was knowledge that the first targets hit would be Washington, DC and New York City. I believed that if we won, as of course we must, we would be better off. Man was I right!

It has amazed me over the last almost 19 years how the self-centeredness and arrogance of New Yorkers has pissed away all the good feelings that were bestowed upon them after they took one for the team on 9/11. Now? Who gives a fuck?

Now they can have all the stupid, high-cost shit they voted for, good and hard. The shutdown is gonna hurt them badly? They should take it up with their congresscritters. They're the ones who made sure everyone's eyes were on shampeachment while the virus spread.

NYC hosts the news organizations that routinely ignores floods and tornadoes in flyover country, because the rubes aren't important. DC hosts the unelected bureaucrats who think they know better than those flyover rubes how life should be lived.

Well, this rube says, "FUCK Y'ALL!"

As suggested in one of Ace's links, NYC should be walled off and left to rot, and DC preserved as a museum, perhaps, and its denizens scattered throughout the country, with the president located somewhere alongside the Mighty Mississippi, the House somewhere on the longitude of maybe Orlando, the Senate somewhere on the longitude of maybe Phoenix, and the Supreme Court out in Hawaii. The judges out there already think that part has happened, so fuck them, too.

The executive departments that don't get dismantled should be spread as widely as possible, with no more than one per state, the New England states counting together as one, and Delaware, Maryland, and Jersey counting as one. Furthermore, no two departments may have headquarters in adjoining states not be in cities closer than 200 miles apart.

Lobbying should be forbidden, and tax returns and complete family financial records should be not just publicly available, but prominently available on a public website explicitly for that information. This bullshit of Senators and Representatives entering government employment ("service" = nonsense, it's a well-paying job) from the middle-class and retiring as multimillionaires has got to stop. As does the idea of exempting themselves from the laws they pass.

Were it wise, which we know it is not, Behemoth would decentralize itself before the rubes vivisect it with all too much glee.

/rant

@NKaeding

The payments are based on the 2020 tax year, but the advanced credit is based on 2018 or 2019 tax year. Phase outs are based on AGI. 5 cents every dollar over the limits.

@NKaeding

If your income fell in 2020 below the phase outs, and your previous income was above, it would reconcile when you file your 2020 return.

And I know a lot of employees in my parts of CA wouldn't know hand soap from a bottle of ketchup. Take out seems to be like Russian Roulette, you can't even see the kitchen. It's surprise in a box.

Honestly, I haven't eaten in a restaurant proper more than half a dozen times in the past 5 years, and that was for a celebration of some kind. When I was married, we ate out a lot more socially - and I don't miss dropping $120 on a meal that sucks.

If they aren't managing their margins well enough to make money on the food they have serious problems with ownership.

Every bank, lending institution and business instantly waved any installments, mortgages, car payments, credit card payments, etc. - though only to furloughed government employees.

Back when I was working low wage jobs I routinely ran across people who came to work on death's door because they felt like they didn't have a choice. One girl came in to flip burgers with a full blown stomach flu - she had a bucket right there by the grill. She had rent to pay and her boss said she was out if she didn't work her shift.

Me, I would have quit right there. But she didn't, and I always wondered how many that joint's customers spent the next day worshiping the porcelain god.

He is power mad. However, the NYC population is totally unruly on this, increasing the need for ventilators. NY State has 8 times the cases of the second-most state, New Jersey. It's looking like Cuomo was wrong last week to tell DeBlasio he could not clamp-down on NYC residents.

But I don't know how you can enforce the sort of nationwide quarantine Rachel/Rick Madcow is advocating as I write this. Arrest people (but our jails are full!) and throw them in jail (putting the offenders in close proximity)? Fine them a zillion dollars (while not requiring cash bail for accused criminals)? Shoot them? What?

555 I worked at a pizzeria when I was young. Our favorite joke was, "We won't charge for the extra toppings."

No, not that. It came about after a cook dropped a pizza, right out of the oven, cheese side down on the floor. He picked it up carefully, threw a little more cheese on it and re-arranged the toppings, and stuck it in the oven for a few more minutes. He didn't check what else might have stuck to the pizza.

The dilemma was, do you tell a customer that's waited 20 minutes for a pizza to go that the cook dropped it on the floor and he'll have to wait another 20 minutes?

No. You don't charge him for the extra toppings and send him on his way.

Yes. This is why I favor the National Divorce.

It couldn't ever work of course. The coastal states would initiate a major war in 5-10 years. But it would be long enough to shake out our populations into discrete nation states before the festivities commenced.

No Moron will stay in a full-Communist country for more than five minutes. No Communist or his welfare thralls will remain in a constitutional Republic with property rights any longer.

Mixing the two has never worked. It's time to separate and decant the mixture, and set about scouring the Commie sections from the face of the American map... taking their trulls as camp followers, and putting their soy-soaked men to work on a grand, glittering transcontinental double-PANAMAX waterway.

Things are getting interesting. Treasury and the Fed are having to come up with ways to deal with any losses the Fed will take in buying and backstopping these very risky assets they're gonna BUY BUY BUY.

The accounting will be razzle-dazzle and convoluted, but basically the federal govt will cover the loss. Any Fed loss will become more US public debt.

The China Virus is also hostile enemy action, intentional possibly. Not sure we could have prepared to defend against it either.

The national debt is exponential. It's built into the system. The economy grows exponential as well (at some point, with finite resources, this must end). THe trouble is the spending train grows faster than the economy and by a nice percentage. This is built in the system.

Bursts like these of federal debt spending just increase that rate.

But on average, federal debt doubles ever 7 -8 years. Every two term president will have a doubling of federal debt on his watch. It's built into the system.

657 >> debt can double as long our GDP is high; it is the percentage of GDP that need to look at

The thing is the rate of growth. Debt has been consistently growing faster than GDP for decades. To keep it simply say the rate of debt growth is d and the rate of economic growth is r.

Debt to GDP ratio is then ~ e^dt/e^rt or e^(d - r)t.

Debt to GDP ratio is thus itself an exponential growing at the rate of the difference.

Like all exponentials it grows slowly at first, then all at once.

The time to fix it is before it gets to the all at once phase. But at that time, it doesn't look too bad.

660 If this passed tonight it still has to go back to the House correct? This is gonna drag on forever and people are hurting NOW.

Posted by: Jewells45 at March 24, 2020 09:32 PM (dUJdY)

Yes, it will have to go back to the House but leaders on both sides of the aisle are hoping that they will be able to pass it by voice vote so House members do not have to physically come back to DC. If that was necessary Steny Hoyer has promised 24 hours notice before a vote would take place.
That being said, there is no final bill yet. They're still negotiating, and several Republican senators, including Lindsey, have said publicly this evening that Trump needs to tell Mnuchin to up and leave so this can come to an end. So unless something momentous happens in the next little while and they vote sometime in the early morning hours, this may turn into the Senate voting on a completed bill during the day tomorrow.

And that's how Bush's rebate turned into a stupid gimmick that ended up hurting taxpayers who are still paying off that debt today.

669 Sorry...had to do some pet chores...

@NKaeding

First, the checks are only allowed below specific income limits. Here it's $75,000 for single filers, $150,000 for married couples, and $112,500 for heads of households (single with kids).

If you're above those income levels, the check will phase out gradually at a rate of 5 cents per $100 of income. For a married couple, that would be $198,000 of income. If you're between $150,000 and $198,000, you get something, but not the full amount.

So now we have to ask, what year's income matters here. It's based on your 2020 income, but the Treasury doesn't know that yet. So they'll send them based on 2018 or 2019 returns, whatever they have.

Now, if your income changes from 2019 to 2020, like it will be for many, you will reconcile it on your 2020 tax return.

So how do you get the money? Well, the bill says that Treasury can use your prior direct deposit information or they can mail it to you. In the past, Treasury took 6-8 weeks to mail checks. With direct deposit, it might be sooner.

Now, who isn't eligible, individuals without SSNs, nonresident aliens, and adult dependents.

I'll vote Trump on judges alone. Not that it matters here in CA.

But from the fiscal standpoint there really isn't much difference between R's and D's. Toward the end of Clinton's second term we were actually on track to have a tiny, temporary surplus, and the Republicans, who had both houses of Congress at the time, fell all over themselves to spend us back into debt just like Democrats.

School is like anything else...you get out of it what you put in. Virginia's Fairfax County Public Schools, or at least the three my kids attend, require more input from parents to keep them accountable and honest (coupled with home support and such) but it isn't my kids that are at risk. It's the kids of absentee parents who don't give a damn. Nature abhors a vacuum and FCPS is more than willing to fill a space that parents leave behind.
