The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

It's kind of weird how most of the MSM reporting lately sounds like it could've been written by Chinese state media. Despite the fact that China lied to the world about the origins of the coronavirus and the extent of its spread.

Everybody has known for a long time that:

--China spies

--China's human rights record is abysmal

--Chinese tech can’t be trusted

--China buys politicians in other countries.

--China plays dirty

--China steals tech and intellectual property

--China launders money

--China corrupts our universities

But the stunning and brave journalists in our MSM appear to be mostly silent on these things. In fact, the only one who appears to want to push back against manifold Chinese aggression is Donald Trump. While they were shrieking RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA for over three years, Trump has been shouting CHINA CHINA CHINA.

I touched on this in the book thread a while back. Some time before he ran for office, Trump was asked to list some of his favorite books, and it turned out that a surprisingly large number of them were about Chinese history, culture, and business practices. In other words, he realized early on that our chief geopolitical rival would be China (and not Russia). So I'd guess that before he was elected, he had acquired a pretty good layman's education on China. In fact, other than classified information such as military data, I wonder how much that Trump receives in the intelligence briefings he is now privy to is either new to him or surprises him.

And he doesn't go out of his way to publicize this. Trump never has any of his aides leak to the press that he really is "scary smaht." It's almost as if he *wants* his enemies to underestimate him.

Regardless, he's obviously light-years ahead of any of the 27-year-old know-nothings in the MSM.

5 Outrageous, but not surprising:

On Tuesday, Pelosi released another revised version of House Democrats' plan in the midst of the coronavirus crisis. . . Slipped into the plan is an amnesty for the nearly 700,000 to 800,000 DACA illegal aliens who currently reside in the United States, many of whom take blue-collar and entry-level jobs that would otherwise be filled by America's working class.

The provision means that all enrolled DACA illegal aliens would have their status immediately renewed and extended even as the nation's unemployment rate could skyrocket to 20 percent.

Likewise, Pelosi's plan would immediately extend status for the more than 300,000 foreign nationals in the U.S. on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) --- ensuring that American workers are forced to compete for jobs amid an employment crisis against an amnestied population of foreign workers.

81 When this Chinese flu got serious here, our fish wrap announced that they were going to print positive news and information.

The next day they printed a column by Leonard Pitt, calling the GOP the Klan, and Trump the grand wizard.

Then, today they printed letters from the editor calling Trump supporters "lizard brained," and accusing PDT of doing absolutely nothing about the virus.

And a mouth-breather in Vox Populi said "This isn't a Chinese virus. It's Trump's virus."

I live among these people.

127 Had a friend make an excellent point about public school resistance to implementing online learning during the Wuhan flue shutdown: this removes their biggest weapon - strikes.

Once a school implements an online learning policy/creates online curricula for emergencies, they can switch to this the minute the teachers strike, and there's no picket line that has to be crossed, no students to block from entering the classroom.

That is significant.

Per my understanding (so grains of salt), it did technically originate in the house. It was a bill sent over last year sometime that had a funding component. The Senate passed an amendment that effectively wiped out the original bill down to a blank a piece of paper, then added amendments that make it into a new - and otherwise completely unrelated - bill.

This bill did originate in the House, at least technically.

189 Interesting article in the Portland alt-weekly.

The Oregon Health Authority is reporting the numbers of cases of CCP virus (about 125 in the Portland area), but is refusing to provide any statistics on hospitalizations, ICU use, etc.

Before they shut down reporting, about 1 in 25 hospitalizations were for people with CCP virus symptoms.

Methinks that the state is refusing to report the numbers because they are scary enough.

Leftists are claiming that it is a conspiracy, because Oregon only reports 200 cases, while Washington has about 2000, and California has thousands.

Pretty simple explanation actually - Washington and California had flights from China, and Oregon didn't. That was the initial vector of infection, of course.

It like global warming - no matter what happens, it's always because global warming.

The Left have their policy wish list, and every event, crisis, up market, whatever, is used to justify the same damn policies. They don't even pause to consider the specifics of the situation, they don't try to justify it, they just demand, relentlessly, what they want, again and again. Because: [whatever it is today that is getting attention]!!

Why would that be? There's a strong selection bias towards the badly sick or fatal cases being identified as related to Covid. Ergo, the death rate is overstated relative to the number of true infected.

248 Per my understanding (so grains of salt), it did technically originate in the house. It was a bill sent over last year sometime that had a funding component. The Senate passed an amendment that effectively wiped out the original bill down to a blank a piece of paper, then added amendments that make it into a new - and otherwise completely unrelated - bill.

This bill did originate in the House, at least technically.

This is anecdotal, but I trust the source. A small Michigan community recently found itself with wuflu cases. The source was a couple who went to Northern Italy to ski, not something that the average person can do. It spread to the local circle. If they don't quarantine, they'll spread it to coworkers, and so on. There may be plenty of untested cases but it came from people who can afford to come here from China or who are able to travel to hot spots who feel they are somehow safe.

- a "timely warning" about the soon-to-come dystopian world of Trump and his Nazis.

Either way, I hope it dies the death of a thousand dogs.

Whole thing has been a classic case of confirmation bias.

In China and everywhere else, you only get tested IF you have symptoms bad enough to go to a Doctor.

And as there were not enough tests, they would only test you if you were REALLY sick.

Its like the Flu numbers here. 22,500 have died due to flu or complications.

250,000 have tested positive for flu. (CDC numbers).

That looks like about an 8% death rate doesn't it? until you realize they don't DO a lab test for flu, unless you are in the hospital at deaths door.

There are 10's of millions of cases of flu per year that people don't even go to the Doctor for.

What I need is a 'stimulus check' for about 1000x the thou they're offering... just to get started. Might be spit in the bucket, but a thou ain't chicken feed. Don't generally turn down 'free' money, but I've never taken a gummint handout before.

Perhaps I should, taking a cue from the President, donate mine back to the Treasury?

Or donate it to the Trump 2020 campaign?

Probably not enough for much in the way of hookers and blow if I even knew where to shop for them in these troubled times of empty shelves.

I suppose if I want to give it back to the gummint, I could just buy hundreds of PowerBall chances. Then it would be fun for five minutes until the roulette ball settles.

Not sure it belongs there, but saw "Under the Silver Lake" a few weeks ago, and it's of that genre... if it's a genre.

I really enjoyed it, but wouldn't call it a "great" film, like those others.

394 Cuomo is going to be the presidential candidate for the democrats.

This election is going to come down to how much free shit each side is willing to give. Sorry, but that's the basis of the 2020 election in the wake of the coronavirus depression.

There are two choices. The democrat plan will give free shit to different victim groups and promote green new deal values. Of course, nothing will be paid for.

Or...

You can go with my plan to totally reset the economy, give the bulk of the money to the middle class and pay for everything with dormant assets held by the government.

409 Aren't spending bills supposed to originate in the House ??

or is that some old quaint 'guideline' ?

Posted by: McCool at March 25, 2020 11:29 AM (lWCRE)

+++++++++++++++++

Per my understanding (so grains of salt), it did technically
originate in the house. It was a bill sent over last year sometime that
had a funding component. The Senate passed an amendment that effectively
wiped out the original bill down to a blank a piece of paper, then
added amendments that make it into a new - and otherwise completely
unrelated - bill.

This bill did originate in the House, at least technically.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at March 25, 2020 11:31 AM (e/H31)

You are correct, Joe. The Senate is using a bill that passed the House already and has just been sitting around the Senate and they will insert the text of this bill into it. This is to get around the need for the House to go first since they already did, so to speak.

China is a fundamentally flawed country with a vulnerable economy, who pose an altogether disproportionate threat, due to the way our globalists have just given them the store for decades.

However, this means they are dependent on our continued sufferance, and even largesse, to continue on their aggressive path across the world.

If we stop, they stop.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at March 25, 2020 11:31 AM (e/H31)

++++++++++++++++
I have the same question on this that I have regarding northern Italy.

The death toll just isn't that big relative to the population. NYC has had around 200 deaths resulting from Covid-19.

Per NYC's heath department, 2014 (the last year for which data are available) had 53,006 deaths registered across 136 causes of death.

As an average, then (which is probably not sensible due to seasonality, but whatever - this is quick-and-dirty), is 145.23 deaths per day. There has been a Covid-19 outbreak in earnest for about two weeks. So those 200 new Covid-19 deaths, which are unexpected additional deaths, have been 14.3 per day. That is unreasonably, so let's say it was one week (since it's accelerating) to get a higher figure of about 28 additional deaths per day.

That is an increase of about 20% in deaths-per-day as compared to 2014 figures (again, all extremely rough).

How do they run out of capacity? I understand that 20% is a lot of slack in any business, but this implies that there is *very* little capacity in postmortem public facilities to handle a meaningful increase in the average death rate. Am I way off base on that? Running out of corpse-handling capacity over the accumulation of a small number (in absolute terms) of additional bodies, especially with the reduction in local travel and other activities (which I would guess should reduce the death rate due to accidents, crime, etc.) strikes me as a general capacity problem.

605 I just got off the phone with my sister. I am so incredibly frustrated. They are talking about shutting down the schools in Connecticut for the rest of the year.
There is no thought for the people who are not going to get paid. The custodians, the food service people, the part timers but you can be sure the teachers and administrators will get paid. And what about the parents now not only forced to stay home to take car of their kids but also no place to take the kids. The parks are even closed off. Home school them, you say. How many parents are really equipped to do that?
My sister, a part time administrator, is getting paid to do conference calls and meetings on line, but all the support staff that keep the buildings running smoothly and part timers are SOL.
So, the bottom line is it is okay to shut down the country for the next 3-6 months as long as you are getting a paycheck.
End of rant.

I go easy on the cajun seasoning for the benefit of the kids and wife (more goes on my bowl), and have good luck just browning a whole chicken and throwing it in the pot to cook / simmer for the first hour, then when easily shreddable, shredding it then adding back into the pot. More meat than a typical rotisserie chicken.

Go with a good chocolate milk colored roux for this one.

608 IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE BILL DE BLASIO'S WIFE RECENTLY LOST $1 BILLION ON SOME 2 YEAR MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM.
_________________

To be fair, she didn't really "lose" the money. She just funneled it into the bank accounts of various crooked cronies.

But yeah, if even a portion of that billion had been spent on buying ventilators for NYC, there would at least be something to show for it, unlike the bullshit "mental health" spending that didn't improve anybody's mental health, but certainly did improve the bank accounts of various deCommio cronies.

609 "Nat cathedral must mean n95 masks, not respirator masks."

At work, we use N95 cartridges, with a rubber and glass full-face mask. N95 is just the filter standard. It can be made in many different formats.

You are correct, Joe. The Senate is using a bill that passed the House already and has just been sitting around the Senate and they will insert the text of this bill into it. This is to get around the need for the House to go first since they already did, so to speak.

Same stunt they pulled 10 years ago for the Unaffordable Care Act.

Cuomo is blathering.

-

I've heard speculation that he's angling for the DNC to force Biden to accept him for the VP slot.

Based on Biden's earlier statements regarding the gender of his running mate, when Cuomo begins transitioning we will know the speculation is no longer idle.
Think about that and hum "Pretty Woman" to yourself.

614 402 Don't most recipes allow an equal substitution of snail slime or snot for okra?
Posted by: banana Dream at March 25, 2020 11:57 AM (l6b3d)
------------------------------
Yes, but you also have to add a tsp of dryer lint for every Tbsp of snot. Remember, it's the combination of slippery goo and fuzzy skin that makes okra so very ..... special.

616 They're probably not infected at all and just looking to virtue signal now and (more importantly) after they "recover".

Posted by: numbad at March 25, 2020 11:48 AM

There's no downside to them for it. No one would ever know if these celebrities had it or not, because of doctor-patient privilege, right? Healthcare info is private. So there's no way to go prove that any of them are lying.

So they get to say that they have it and bring all this attention to how "serious!" the virus is and get everyone's sympathy and then also get more when they come out again and say they are recovered.

And while they have it, they get to push their SJW ideas, like Idris Elba immediately did... pontificating about "climate change".

The very worst Chinese food I've had was in China.
