Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | More Anecdotal Evidence That Chloroquinine Is Effective; The FDA is to Blame For the Six Weeks of Delay in Coronavirus TestingIt's just an anecdote: His immune system might have been on the verge of beating the drug without chloroquinine. In the same category is this woman's quick recovery. They note the French study which prompted all this optimism consisted of only 20 people given the chrloroquinine/azrithromycin combination. (Another 20, I think, served as a control group who were not given that combination.) That's obviously a small sample, but still, as anecdotes accumulate they do become data. Meanwhile, it turns out that Orange Man Bad was not responsible for the delay in coronavirus testing. The FDA refused to expedite approvals for the test, despite a national health emergency having been declared.

I do understand the FDA's reluctance to clear this stuff, who knows what unexpected side effects or problems it might cause. This isn't Dr House where you can just experiment on people until you get it right. Sorry you almost died 3 times and got a horrific allergic reaction. House wanted to try something new. Please don't sue us again.
At the same time, this stuff should be used on every dying patient unless there is a clear conflict with their physiology or other medicine. I mean if they're gonna die, the side effects seem pretty minor in comparison. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 23, 2020 06:26 PM (KZzsI) 30

Take care, all. I'm backing away from this crap for a while. It's been just-over 2-months since the "outbreak" and by the CDC's numbers (for what they're worth), there are roughly 34K confirmed cases of Kung Flu in the US. About 45% of them are in one state (New York).
400 total deaths. 400. Or roughly 200/month. In a country of 321 million people. Aside from NY and perhaps 1-2 other hot spots, this is simply not a panic/lock-down level event. But that's precisely where we're headed. I'm done. Posted by: DocJ at March 23, 2020 06:38 PM (DU2N9) 151

hydroxycholorquine and the rest of the mix, seems to cure even in the late stages. A mild early dose would surely be in order.
Someone here earlier said they knew someone that tested positive, the ER gave them hydroxycholorquine, and said Pelosi (?) was an idiot. 43 deaths today in NY, 132 in USA today alone. 545 total. The chloroquinones? There have been three on the current mess, Korea, China, and France. The Chinese study used higher doses, the French study used hydroxychloroquinone (fewer side effects) and an ER/chicken antibiotic and got STUNNINGLY GOOD results if they can be replicated on larger scale. The main thing is that these drugs have almost no adverse side effects, the worst thing is vision problems that resolve once you're off the drug. And they're all, including the chicken antibiotic, cheap. There's some consideration that the virus will mutate itself around the immediate cure, and that's true, but at this point a year probably gets us to a virus. I'm optimistic. it would be a huge win for Trump if it worked, and Dems/MSM already smeared him for suggesting a Untested Drug might work. So imo, yes they are indeed that Vile, to want to thwart success that might show Trump was right again. To them it is warfare, and every Trump win is a loss for them ... even if people die in the process of stopping Trump. But I'd sure like to see outcomes and details, since they must have a lot of anecdotal. Any drug result will be anecdotal ... there is no age old protocol for a brand new novel virus. Its not impossible that it interacts oddly with this particular virus in some people, that's what they are worried about. There hasn't been enough testing yet to see that kind of thing. Testing is way way overrated. These tests have sensitivities of less than 70%. at best.
That means if the test is Neg., there is a 30% chance that you are infected. It has a purpose, but it is not a cure. These countries that are having success are doing a lot of testing but not to find all the sick people, but instead to reduce the number of asymptomatic carriers out there in the wild and to know how extreme the lockdowns need to be. Sure, but not with this stuff. Medicines interact chemically, and there's not enough data on how exactly it interacts with this virus. It appears to be very beneficial but are there nasty side effects we haven't seen yet? That's their fear. Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine have legitimate medical uses, and our supply is not set up for mass use. Before we go crazy and start prescribing it to everyone with cold symptoms, thereby depleting our supply and possibly denying it to those who need it for other medical uses, we have to establish that it has benefit.
In the severe cases, it is being used. One data set that will be seen soon is, are those who take the drugs for their other conditions protected from corona? Do they have less severe disease, or no disease at all? Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy, ChiComTerrorVirus Exposed at March 23, 2020 06:59 PM (dNzKv) 358

There's also an oximeter on recent Samsung phones like the s8, s9, s10, etc... on the back of the phone. Not saying you should go out and get a $500 plus phone because of that but if you already have one run SAMSUNG Health and measure "stress" and it will show you your oxygen level.

Yeah most of the panic (even in otherwise educated, intelligent people who should know better) is being driven by early information. >> This suggests that a lot of the morbidity/mortality is from opportunistic bacterial infections consequent upon lung damage from the virus.
I was listening to some respiratory doc talking about this last night. Z-pack has some clinically significant anti-inflammatory properties that are not well understood in addition to the antibiotic properties. The x-quinines, which are used for RA and other autoimmune conditions have anti-inflammtory and immune modulation effects. He speculates that the ones that get the sickest may have be having an immune overreaction in the lungs causing the damage and all that, and the above properties of those drugs may explain their effectiveness. Let the blue states that are having the biggest problems order the lockdowns, not Trump.
Posted by: Blago at March 23, 2020 07:21 PM (sjTfF) That's the thing, when their states are still on lockdown and others aren't and are doing fine, their citizens are going to get mad. They don't want to deal with that and they're too inept to make the case to their people that the conditions warrant it. Heck, they really don't even want to deal with the urban vs. rural divides in their own states. I'd be super pissed if I lived in some small village in upstate NY. I don't think I care for an "old Corps" vibe. I understand about trolls doing hit and runs, but they're easy enough to spot. My preference is, join the convoy, and if it's a snark, well, be prepared to take as much as you dish.

I've got RA, and had to stop taking the infusion (immune suppressing biologic brand named "Simponi Aria") for my knee replacement last month. I should be able to start taking it again with the go ahead from the surgeon this week, but I'm not going to until this thing is over. And I already had a little flare this morning, reminding me the RA is ramping up again. I'll deal with flaring RA, rather than a suppressed infection fighting ability. according to Resident 3vil, my personal clinical pharmacist, among other things that have been discovered is that treating lung inflammation with steroids, which is standard therapy for that sort of things had worse results than not using the,, likely due to further weakening of the immune system. azithromycin also has anti-inflammatory properties, as well as some anti-viral ones, despite being an antibiotic. i suspect we will know more about both after all the data is crunched in the AAR post panic. What do people who work and have a kid or kids in say, the second or third grade, who isn't old enough to be home by themselves, do when businesses open back up and school doesn't, because they closed it two and a half months early? Posted by: rickb223 at March 23, 2020 07:28 PM (2GjZZ) 618
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 23, 2020 06:26 PM (KZzsI) For fuck's sake, Chris. The stuff has been on the market for 70 years. Most of the adverse reactions crop up after long-term use. Knocking down a WuFlu infection is the very definition of "short-term" use. Many countries sell it OTC. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at March 23, 2020 07:29 PM (miJU3) 619

The thing in old school buses that limited their top speed was called a governor. Its purpose was to limit the speed at which the bus went about its task. There were various reasons for this, including safety, though in many cases, it just made the bus less safe, as nothing else was limited to that speed, and going at a dramatically different speed than the rest of traffic isn't necessarily going to do anything worthwhile. That is also the main purpose or effect of basically anything that has the root word "govern" in it. Taxes slow things down. Regulations slow things down. Some of the things it slows down are at least arguably socially useful. But, well, when your regulations require using postal mail in the age of the internet... you're slowing things down in all the wrong ways, for all the wrong reasons.
