Senate Democrats Show They're Determined to Destroy the US Economy; Even Democrat Senator Mitt Romney is Shocked

Unbelievable.

Even Pierre Delecto pronounced himself "shocked" by his fellow Democrats' behavior:

The New York Times first reported that the Democrats "blocked" the bill but then, realizing that the Democrats could be damaged by noting that they "blocked" the bill, successively rewrote their headline until the words "Democrats" and "blocked" were completely ommited.

Now they say "Partisan divide threatens" the bill.

They're playing this game even as three Republicans are out of the Senate due to exposure to the Chinese flu, or testing positive for this.

Amy Klobuchar just announced that her husband is sick from it.

I have news that many Americans are facing right now: my husband John has the coronavirus. We just got the test results at 7 a.m. this morning. While I cannot see him and he is of course cut off from all visitors, our daughter Abigail and I are constantly calling and texting and emailing. We love him very much and pray for his recovery. He is exhausted and sick but a very strong and resilient person.

John started to feel sick when I was in Minnesota and he was in Washington D.C. and like so many others who have had the disease, he thought it was just a cold.

Yet he immediately quarantined himself just in case and stopped going to his job teaching in Baltimore. He kept having a temperature and a bad, bad cough and when he started coughing up blood he got a test and a chest X-ray and they checked him into a hospital in Virginia because of a variety of things including very low oxygen levels which haven’t really improved. He now has pneumonia and is on oxygen but not a ventilator.

But Orange Man Bad.

12 @NKaeding 5 minutes ago

I just got a copy of the Pelosi bill that's floating around town. Lets just say the tax title is VERY different than the Senate bill.

Section begins with a payroll credit for hospitals that provide COVID-19 charity care. Credit is equal to 90% of the charity care provided. There is another credit for "hospital facility expenditures paid or incurred" by hospitals for things such as new structures, and retrofitting. De facto expensing for hospital structures?!

Premium tax credits for health insurance are adjusted. Also, changes to the affordability rules for health insurance premiums are modified too.

You can follow her thread here:

https://tinyurl.com/s5tzdzf

Also:

@rachelbovard

Pelosi's #COVID19 bill is 1,119 pages and contains provisions for "conducting risk-limiting audits of results of elections" so yeah it's really very focused on the crisis at hand.

I'm not the expert but if you read the wiki on senate filibuster rules they state that the senate changed the rules in the 70's that morphed it into a 60 vote institution, for nearly all practical purposes. Was never the framers intent.

Dems are lying about the rescue bill. They say it's a "slush fund."

In reality, loans to big businesses PROHIBIT increases in executive pay and stock buy backs. It's in the bill, clear as day.

They don't have real reasons for opposing this. This is pure, bitter partisanship.

Here is the text on the $500B portion of the bill:

Direct Lending Limitations: executive total compensation may not exceed $425,000; prohibition of stock buybacks during the duration of the loan; borrowers must maintain existing payroll as of March 13.

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb gave a new address at noon Monday updating plans to reduce the spread of COVID-19 ordering Hoosiers to stay at home.

The order is in effect from March 25 to April 7.

Hoosiers should stay in their homes except when they are part of an essential business or for permitted activities, such as taking care of others, obtaining necessary supplies, and for health and safety.

"The next two weeks are critical if we are to slow the spread of COVID-19, and we must slow the spread. You must be part of the solution, not the problem," said Gov. Holcomb.

If the Senate can't come together in a time of great need, no

The American money sent by the Obama administration was first flown to Switzerland aboard an unmarked chartered aircraft, and then converted into euros, Swiss francs and other currencies. An Iranian transport aircraft flew the cash to Iran in January and February 2016 in three shipments. The first aircraft arrived in Tehran on Jan. 16, 2016, with $400 million piled on wooden pallets. Two other aircraft shipments of cash were sent on Jan. 22, 2016, and Feb. 5, 2016, totaling $1.3 billion.

It would be interesting to know where that first flight originated and exactly what it carried (Perhaps Fort Knox gold?). No mention of gold to Iran, but does say Euros, Swiss francs, and "other" currencies to Iran.

445 Around here, "marijuana dispensaries" and vaping shops are now considered "essential services." Seriously. Enough pot-heads claimed that their marijuana was "medicine" and dang you need supplies from the vape shop to smoke it that the local governments have allowed them all to stay open if they want.

All restaurants must close as non-essential, but pot-dealers and head shops get the government stamp of approval.

Yeah, I think globalism and offshoring is soon going to be dead all over the world. The UK is running low on Tylenol (paracetamol as they call it over there). There's been a run on it, and India has cut exports, to save it for themselves.

Which makes wonder about our stocks.

450 Tonight would be perfect for Trump to take a Prime Time slot

Like nobody else, he could lay out the case to the American People, illustrating Schumer's & Pelosi's evilness, lying natures and absolutely heedless destructiveness to this Nation.

Then simply challenge the Congress to do the right thing and support the American People, or answer to the American People in November.

Ten minute address. Fifteen, tops.

Lay it all out there, and (figuratively speaking) "mic-drop". Close it simply, cleanly, strongly, and then back to regular programming.

Trump has been pretty clear, I think, on why there is no national martial law. It isn't necessary or appropriate or possibly even legal. Some states have martial law, and some cities or counties. But there are a lot of places where it is entirely unnecessary (if it is indeed necessary anywhere).

I think the press is starting to agitate hard for national martial law because they need cover for those who are arguably going way too far based on the risk. Without martial law nationally, these governors will have to own their actions if, say, places like Texas and Florida don't have the dire consequences they say they're trying to avoid (as opposed to just making a naked power grab).

National martial law makes no sense and isn't justifiable, and that is something that *should* be run at the state level, anyway. I don't see a practical reason for it, which leaves political reasons - and the only political reason I see is to provide cover for those going all-in so no one can point at it later and say, "this wasn't necessary based on what we saw elsewhere."

Twice before my investments went WAYYYY down (like in 2009), and I didn't panic, and after a while, the eventually bounced WAYYY back up to where they were before the crash, and then climbed normally as before.

Same day voter registration, a long-time Dem wishlist item, very relevant to addressing those businesses and working families about to go under from #COVID19.

We can agree or disagree about the value of collective bargaining for federal employees but can we all agree that it doesn't belong in a relief bill DESIGNED TO HELP PEOPLE WITH #COVID19.

I'm just going to throw this out there: Requiring the airlines to fully offset their carbon emissions is not going to save the airlines.

You know what families who can't work and are struggling to make rent really care about?

Being able to look up greenhouse gas emissions from the flights they can't afford to book.

I, too, care for community journalism.

But right now none of them have jobs because of #COVID19 so maybe this isn't the time to modify their retirement plans.

Each of those tweets is accompanied by a pic of the relevant section of Pelosi's bill...

It's going to happen but now isn't the time to discuss it. Someone asked Trump the other day about bringing back pharmaceutical and medical device production and he said now wasn't the time to deal with it. 510 There will be a few benefits.

1. No question, supply chains will be simplified and manufacturing of components will, to a certain extent, move onshore. The companies who are there aren't leaving China - the long term potential market is too big. But they will duplicate what they're doing in China domestically. The bigger movement, though, will be the outsourcing to Hang Wang Manufacturing to make bits and pieces. A lot of that stuff is going to either move in-house or at least be diversified so the OEMs aren't hostage to it. Mexico will benefit too.

2. This one will turn out not to have been so bad. But now we've had a dry run for the zombie apocalypse, when it does happen, and it will. We know better what works and what doesn't, and we'll be better prepared.

3. There will be permanent changes to how we work. We've learned that many employees don't have to be at a workplace to get things done, at least not all the time. Government can nudge this with changes to wage-hour laws (California recently went in the opposite direction), but it's an economic trend that is an unstoppable force.

511 Demorats proved they were unworthy to government with years of impeachment trials based on fraud and deceptions, and now with needlessly endangering America's existence over greedy leftists agendas. Odd pissing away our treasury promptly on our enemies doesn't bother Demorats, only spending American money on Americans.
Deniers be damned, its long past time to realize who's side demorats are on! and it's certainly not ours!

512 Hopefully bean counters will listen to IT directors that warn them to prepare and invest ahead of time to protect the integrity of their infrastructure and prepare to have the employees work from home in an emergency!!

Yeah, right.

513 > Peter Defecto knows there is a very real possibility his business interests will be nationalized. Fucking dumb ass.

Cowards like Schitt always think that if they collaborate, they'll be eaten last.

They're almost always wrong.

514 Remember the nuclear attack advice given to schoolkids in the 50's?

1. Sit firmly in your chair, both feet on the ground.

2. Put both hands behind your head.

3. Put your head between your knees.

4. Kiss your ass goodbye!

I'm a lurker most of the time, but what both of you say often resonates with me as well.

I'm in Delaware and the (D) Governor as of yesterday has shut things down until May 15, joining NY, NJ, and PA and amping it up a bit for good measure.

Any doubts PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE Biden was on the phone to the DE governor letting him know Biden may well be the president in several months, and that as President he could be a very powerful friend (or enemy) to DE? And that he (Uncle Joe) would be forever grateful if the DE governor got with the lockdown program ASAP.

516 Democrats got their love of decrepit economies from the USSR virus. No, this isn't sarcasm, they literally did.

517 Right before this happened, the republicans showed they are spineless after Schumer physically threatened Supreme Court justices and suffered no consequences.

Why wouldn't Schumer push the limits yet again? Nothing can happen to him; his only opposition does literally nothing to stop him.

518 ace,

In about the last hour, Italy has reported a significant decline in BOTH daily new cases and daily new deaths.
That's the first time this has happened since the China Virus has been raging in Italy.
They just might have peaked and begun turning the corner.
