Today's report
Good Morning Morons today is Sunday, March 22, 2020. On this date in 2019 Mueller delivered his report on the Russian government's influence on the election of Donald Trump in the 2016 United States presidential election. It was a big nothingburger after the communists and the MFM had been drooling for a long time. And the SOBs have not given up yet after 1 year. A very short period of time is going to show if this shelter in place works. I know the Worse case scenario people in charge won't be happy if there is just 1 more case but everything I read about people who do get it most its less than the common cold. I told her about us canceling our trip to Florida because even the beaches were shut down. She says, they had to. Warm weather if I get the Medium.com article explanation right starts to kill off the virus germ if left on a surface quicker slowing its expansion to other bodies. That is the main reason of spreading and why summer kills off the seasonal flu.

20 million Californians are not going to get the Cornavirus in two months. It's all driven by models modeling the absolute worst case scenario. These model are absolute bullshit. In the span of less than a month we've decided to shut down large swaths of the US economic engine over 200 or so deaths. The pubic announcements and heath promotion will help as much as anything in stopping the spread of lots of diseases. If everyone did that and know if you do catch even the common cold you can easily spread it. We are being played and this is a scam. Posted by: Thomas Bender at March 22, 2020 07:44 AM I've been reading your posts for days and for the most part agree with you. The thing that keeps me from jumping fully onboard is what we saw out of China: Armed bands of police grabbing citizens and throwing them into vans, arresting those who were in public w/o masks, boarding up people in their homes for weeks, the supposed crematorium sulfur dioxide numbers in astronomical range, barricading entire cities, train stations empty. To my knowledge, they've never reacted in a similar manner to the regular flu. So something is different, just based on what we saw coming out of China at the height of it over there. Gavin Loathsome clearly has nothing but contempt for the citizens of California. This was objectively confirmed by his refusal to deport multiple-felon illegal alien criminals, refusal to cooperate with federal immigration officials (even interfering with them), and refusal to send National Guard to border as Trump requested.
His extreme measures now to fight coronavirus are nothing but cover for authoritarian extensions of state power. Posted by: Dan Smoot's Apprentice at March 22, 2020 07:52 AM (H8QX8) 179

After an exchange where I mention Bern's lifelong teat-nursing, the White Sea canal, him getting schlonged again, and socialists' inability to do math, the troll actually stated that "Bernie had done more for the people of America than anyone in history." I responded that no one had ever even heard of The Bern until he launched two failed campaigns, and I challenged the troll to back up his claim with an actual accomplishment. I said multiple houses didn't count, as that's expected for politburo members and Dem Party sellouts. The troll went quiet.

I believe China used the viral outbreak to tamp down on protest and internal discord, this internal operation led to vast amounts of FUD being spread world wide and is what has primarily driven the panic. Italy's experience has also added to this panic. Italy has a shit healthcare system no matter what anybody tells you, they also have one of the oldest populations on the planet. The vast number of deaths are old people. And as far as how I would mange this crisis, it would be to treat it like every other viral outbreak such SARS, MERS, Hanta, Avian Flu, Swine Flu, etc. We did not lose our shit and cripple ourselves over these outbreaks. If you want to treat the COVID outbreak in a more aggressive manner. If I was the President, I would militarize the effort and invoke posse comitatis and other congressional acts to allow the military to take control of the efforts in the states. I would turn military bases around the country, 800 in all, into hospitals, triage and quarantine centers for the worst cases. I would have the fedgov/military work with the states to get the resources they need to deal with any local gaps in anything that is required to fight it at the local level. What I would not do is allow any Governors to shut their states down and issue shelter in place orders that are going to do nothing to stop the spread but will cripple the economy, which is happening and will only get worse as this thing goes on longer. This could have been managed, it wasn't, everyone panicked, now everyone is going to suffer. Posted by: Thomas Bender at March 22, 2020 08:07 AM (FVrDO) 209

#168 no... it's not a scam. Here's why.
The disease is amazingly infectious. 20% of the infected need hospitalization...and a ventilator for a week to survive. If the beds and ventilators aren't available the infected usually die. Italy is a comparable nation medically and it lost almost 800 people in 24 hours yesterday. Our cases are tracking what theirs did in numbers... especially in New York. You swamp the medical staff with the bug it's even worse. Mistakes and lack of sterile PPE lead to staff infection. That's at play in Italy too. This thing is a real Stephen King novel playing out in real time. The way we react determines the end game total fatalities. With enough beds staff and ventilators we get the least body count. So our efforts have to be directed at minimizing the infected and maximizing our beds and treatment...and to the latter chloroquine seems to be a game changer. And in the late Fall....a vaccine for the surviving uninfected will be available. I'm modestly worried...will people self isolate in enough numbers to blunt the spread. In my California town of 10000 there were still non-essential business' open Saturday. I ordered Buick parts from the dealer, bought a jack from harbor freight and shopped at an auto parts store and Ace Hardware. I avoided close contact but touched door handles, shelf's, products, and money. The city only has one reported victim so far. I figure I took a chance with odds still in my favor. Be careful folks. This wasn't any "Keep Calm and Carry On," because the war effort required it. And 12,000 *extra* people died. How many Wacos is that? That's three 9/11 attacks. And now we shrug it off as no big thing. Here is Michigan the taverns have not yet been closed for a week In 2013 we had an ice storm that knocked out power for more than a week. So some guys need to get out the house and one of the guys reopens his bar between 5PM and 11PM, doesn't tell anyone but word spreads among other guys and they come in. Then some hours are expanded, and a few more places start doing the same. More and more places open up. 20% of the infected need hospitalization...and a ventilator for a week to survive. If the beds and ventilators aren't available the infected usually die.
Not quite right. Globally up to 20% are requiring hospitalization or home care with oxygen support via various delivery methods. 6-8% are buying vents and some of those could be managed by non-vent BUT we are venting as the non-methods aerosolize viri like a motherfucker and it's safer for staff to vent them. Those that do need vents are very very very ill and at high risk for death... just like A, B, H1N1, SARS, MERS and rebar through the head patients. Covid is a new virus in humans. We don't have a cure or vaccine yet. Viruses mutate as they move through the population and can end up being very deadly or not so much, depending on which version of the virus you get. Until we understand the virus better, we need to buy time and control the spread.
So, they ask us to self isolate, etc. Unfortunately, most people won't be inconvenienced or are sure it's no big thing, so they go on with their lives as usual. Hence, we go into forced shut downs. I am of the mind that I know a whole lot less about this than the experts. I assume this is serious due to entire Countries shutting down, risking their economies and disrupting society to buy more time for cures, etc. I understand that this is going to be painful and perhaps devastating for millions so I'm going full on patriot. Hopefully, we get this under control and can get back to work soon. We will pick up the pieces and get on with it. Pain is necessary, misery is optional. Shit happens in life and your character is best evidenced by your ability to inspire others to keep going when it gets hard. I could bitch all day about stuff but gets me absolutely nowhere. I didn't know that pharma is not required to disclose country of origin. This poses a problem. Look at the most common of all pharmaceuticals, aspirin. Nearly all, or all, is manufactured in China. Things start to get heated, and no more aspirin, or worse. Say General X is in charge of the Peoples aspirin factory and decides to give the imperialists a little treat. And Trump bought into it. But I understand that he really had to. That is the reality of the emotional corruption of our media age. I don't fault him. The test will be how he winds it all down. An awful momentum is growing not only for increased authoritarianism in all aspects of society "to protect the people," but also to crush small businesses and expand the welfare state.
-- This is no doubt Trump's biggest challenge. I can only think of 9/11 being worse (in terms of what a modern president has had to face). Aside from the Depression, that is, but even then the situation was different. Trump is in a very bad situation here. He has to ride the panic, because that's what the media has created. And he has to delicately balance calming the wholly whipped-up hysteria the MFM created, with trying to keep the whole country from going under economically. With zero help from the press, whose only job is to make him look as bad as possible. I don't envy him. The economic ramifications are incalculable right now. I don't know how we get out of this positively. I can only hope and pray we can, he can. I know one thing beyond a shadow of a doubt. I know he cares and I trust him. Damn the media. Apparently the journ-o-listers have settled on two attacks for now- accusations of fomenting false hope re the quinine drugs (they are hoping/praying they don't work) and calls to deplatform the president's daily briefing (so he can't spread his false hopes).
If they are saying that Trump is offering "false hope" and that the quinine "won't work". Trump should then ask them, "Apparently you know the future and the real numbers. State them for us now, and if they severely overestimate the number, will you willingly cease operating?" "How do you know the quinine won't work? And if that is proven to be a lie, will you compensate Americans for their losses?" Because we know, like every single time they forecast a hurricane with millions of dead bodies swept out to the sea, and the hurricane fizzles out to a tropical storm and there are no casualties, its like nothing ever happened and they never reported anything about a hurricane. In other words, the MSM has zero responsibility and the only consequences that they would receive are us shunning them. So how many times do we have to be lied to and we keep buying their product? I just want to go back to work. I spent December - mid-Feb teleworking because my 8yo needed educational intervention that I had to withdraw him from school for. Then I was back in the physical office for just a couple weeks before spring break, and I've been out of the physical office since then. So sick of this.
I've been working this weekend since it's really hard for me to get stuff done while caring for the children, and my husband's company hasn't gone to telework. Unfortunately, my husband apparently didn't connect the dots yesterday that me working means HE needs to clean the damn kitchen and otherwise take care of the house. So I guess I'll have to do that today when I actually still have more work to do (there's no way I can tell him to do it without being really nasty, because I'm pissed off, and I choose not to be nasty to him even when EXTREMELY PROVOKED). I am amused by the ONT story about the "accidental" firing of the F-16 cannon. It takes quite a bit of work to fire an aircraft cannon on deck, and
lots of idiocy has to take place in order to make it happen. The four rules of gun safety apply no matter how big the bullets are. Good morning roonz and roonettez! I was going to go out with the Mustang group this morning but it's too cold for convertibles today, so I'm not going to do it. Not to fear, we were just going to meet up and go for a "destination-less" cruise around the area without getting out of our cars. If they did it Friday when it was in the 70s and sunny here I would have been all over it, but today, being overcast and chilly with a chance of rain...not so much. At least there is a book thread today. But I don't care what OM says, he can't make me wear pants. Posted by: GGE of the Moron Horde, NC Chapter at March 22, 2020 09:00 AM (ZXnzo) 422

Last year in these parts someone on Nextdoor went on a crusade to get a small outpost of a major grocery store chain closed and replaced with a different one because he thought it was terrible. Oh no! They sometimes have expired food on the shelves! Government always has only two choices: do something or do nothing.
The opposite of what we've done is do nothing. Italy went that way. Extrapolate Italy death toll to the US population and you get about 12 thousand dead in 6 weeks. Extrapolate the Italy hospital admissions and you get complete shut down of our health care facilities. That ain't the flu. All the people who are now yelling "over-reaction" would be yelling "why aren't we doing something" if we had 12 thousand dead in 6 weeks, a crashed health care system, and no end in sight. Nobody knows enough about this disease to know how contagious it really is or how lethal it really is if nothing is done. Find one accredited epidemiologist on the planet that says we're over-reacting to a hoax and I will buy him/her and you coffee. Also flu seasons are mitigated by vaccines and self imposed social distancing. Who goes to work when they have the flu? Who goes to school when they have the flu? Math. Seriously, people keep referencing stats as if they are an end state instead of a work in progress. We are still ramping up testing but trends are emerging as we get early results. The results to date show we are still seeing exponential growth in the number of new cases. You can predict the number of positive tests and from that the number that will need hospital care including ICU type services. Cuomo has been doing a fairly decent job on a daily basis showing the numbers and the projections over time based on infection rates. NY projects based on the trends that they will soon need double the capacity they currently have, approximately 50,000 new hospital beds with the accompanying medical staffs and equipment. You know that old saying about amateurs talking about strategy and tactics while pros talk about logistics? It's an old saying because it's true. Just went to Walmart for some milk, eggs, ground beef... Not many people but lots of empty or near empty shelves, especially paper products. Second time I went to the store in a week and only see normal crowds. Who the f*** is buying all the TP?

I imagine that for all intents and purposes NYC/NYS is pretty much sealed off anyway. Posted by: vivi at March 22, 2020 11:49 AM (11H2y) 599
Got out of the house for a bit. Short hike at one of the local parks. Vitamin D and to blow the mental bugs away.
Anyone here really believe that Italy has more Wuflu deaths then China or even Iran? Something doesn't add up. Either China and Iran are sandbagging the numbers or Italy is overstating them. And yes I know that Iran has fewer people, but they are truly a third world shit hole these days. I'm putting my money on the first. Interesting numbers here. Particularly mortality rates, which are a lot of timing and other factors. The number of recovered looks grim if you don't keep in mind that a person can die in days vs. weeks to be considered 'recovered.' Posted by: Mr. Peebles at March 22, 2020 11:50 AM (oVJmc) 601

---------- We act like we dont do hospitalizations every flu season. Worst modern flu season was 2017 with over 800,000 hospitalizations nationally and 80, 000 deaths. That years strain was H3N2... also a respiratory infection. I had it and it knocked me flat for two weeks. I personally knew 3 people that died from it. Unless you can convince me that Covid is going to dwarf H3N2, im not buying into the hysteria. Initial 60 day curves show the opposite. Flu dwarfs Covid... by a metric fuckton. . Its not an opinion. It what the "math" shows. Posted by: fixerupper at March 22, 2020 11:57 AM (nw6Hr) 609

fixerupper, I agree with you. I think people are being spooked by the media and the dem governors and mayors. This is the flu, an unknown type, but it's the flu. People with underlying conditions are always told to stay away from sick people and it will blow through third world countries and our third world homeless encampments. But the healthy people who don't get it, are going to be pissed at the media and government about being played by them.

Count me among the 'masses!!"
As I've mentioned before, several times, the population density of NYC means we have a higher percentage of knuckleheads and assholes. That's why we can't have nice things. Taking my temperature daily, had to buy printer ink and groceries yesterday and, did some errands yesterday and took a long walk. Called some friends, watched a LOT of TV. I need to go to a laundromat and I"m spooked about it, due to crowding and all those stainless steel and plastic surfaces that germs love...but the news says that clothing can carry the virus, too. I am running low on disposable gloves to use touchpads and I have to touch money. My local bank branch is closed. It's tough to be paranoid about everything all the time but it's also tough to try to do everything to feel safe. I never feel safe. Posted by: vivi at March 22, 2020 12:07 PM (11H2y) 614
All exits out of NY should be sealed off, no one leaves. With US Army manning the road blocks, Bradleys, Strikers and NBC warfare suits to go along.

And there you go, Trump just gave the green light to Ford, GM and Tesla
to produce ventilators. When you start repurposing entire industries to respond to a health crisis that probably should tell you this is not a hoax. Unless you think Trump is in on it. --- Trump has to manage the panic that America's enemies in the media, the CDC, and among the governors, have created. At this point that's going to be primarily accomplished by empty, but expensive, shows of 'doing something.' Posted by: Methos at March 22, 2020 12:12 PM (kOpft) 619

Now... I will say... If theres a silver lining to all of this its that maybe we as a country will stop treating the flu like its hayfever and theres norhing we can do about it. We have a vaccine and treatments for the flu. Do we have those for Wuhan virus? Frankly we have no idea how many people are infected so continuing to say that is wrong. We won't know until the testing reaches a statistically meaningful number for a country of 320+ million people. Posted by: JackStraw at March 22, 2020 12:39 PM (ZLI7S) 628

Pharmacies should have cotton ones that are not too clumsy the main function of gloves is to remind you not to touch your face and to save your skin from completely drying out from all the handwashing and purelling Posted by: vmom 2020 at March 22, 2020 12:41 PM (G546f) 629
