| Deep State Ringer and Might-As-Well-Be-A-Democrat Senator Richard Burr Dumped $1.6 Million in Stock In Companies Right After Assuring Public That Coronavirus Could be ContainedThis guy is a bad actor and has been the Deep State's agent-in-place in the Senate for a while. He's also a corporate stooge, obviously. I want him out of office and it's not even important to me that we get another Republican in. He has to be driven out of office, period. At least if a Democrat takes the seat we can actually oppose that person, rather than having to cover up for a traitor like Burr.Soon after he offered public assurances that the government was ready to battle the coronavirus, the powerful chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Richard Burr, sold off a significant percentage of his stocks, unloading between $582,029 and $1.56 million of his holdings on Feb. 13 in 29 separate transactions. As the head of the intelligence committee, Burr, a North Carolina Republican, has access to the government’s most highly classified information about threats to America’s security. His committee was receiving daily coronavirus briefings around this time, according to a Reuters story. A week after Burr’s sales, the stock market began a sharp decline and has lost about 30% since. Willowed comment from last thread:
You know very well that Trump didn't call the virus a hoax. I think maybe you're not a particularly honest person. Like, maybe you're a fucking liar. Trump said the words, but Slough and others like him don't want you to read the transcript. Here's the "hoax" language, "They tried anything, they tried it over and over, they've been doing it since she got in. It's all turning, they lost. It's all turning, think of it, think of it. And this is their new hoax" But thirty seconds later Trump said, "And so far we have lost nobody to coronavirus in the United States. Nobody. And it doesn't mean we won't and we are totally prepared. It doesn't mean we won't..." So it's a hoax, but Trump says we're prepared and some people might die? Maybe, just maybe, Trump wasn't lying later when he said he meant the media's reaction to it was the hoax and not the virus. Posted by: bonhomme at March 19, 2020 06:41 PM (9t0Zz) 80

Jonah shifted his position on the sweat-stained couch, it's worn frame groaning under his bulk.
His Twitter feed was a deluge of hate and mockery. No one was reading his newsletter. He slammed a pudgy fist on the arm of the couch, which cursed at him in response. Suddenly, his phone rang. He shifted it slightly in his tattered, ill-fitting pants so that its vibration would tingle his embarrassingly undersized member before answering it. "I'm here," he said, breathing in the ripe smell of his nadsweat. "Something's come up," a bored feminine voice said. "We're needed." "Usual place?" "Yes." We already covered how he's not running for re-election, right?
Ignoring the $$ corruption angle here (already covered by everybody), note he is the tip of the iceberg, in the Senate, in terms of openly or passively opposing some key Trump agenda items (borders and illegal and legal immigration). And the jaw-dropping trainwreck that is the SSCI (intel committee) he has co-chaired during the Mega-Scandal is his fault. But also note: so far there is almost no sign of any improvement in the Senate. Trump endorses all incumbents automatically (since Corker and Flake), reducing the slim chance that Mitch would lose control and see a different type join his caucus. For the record: One of the main reasons I should be able to weather this virus thing is because of Trump's booming economy over the past few years. It's allowed me to build up enough of a cushion, financial and otherwise, to handle stuff like this.

Those years were some of the most tense I've every lived through; I'm telling you, I was skating thisclose to the edge. Anonymous, actually, closing the ports of entry is quite doable, will probably happen, and is quite real.
If it's like other closures, it will exempt most cargo. Commercially and industrially significant cargo transits ports of entry, it isn't smuggled across the desert in the Yuma sector. Posted by: rhomboid at March 19, 2020 07:12 PM (El6T/) 298

Bill Gates retired last month from his position he has held for nearly 40 years, Chairman of the Board, Microsoft. He is 64 years old. Very young for a COB of a F100 company.
Yet, he is still the largest single shareholder, 1.36% of all MS stock. He retired from day to day Microsoft activities over a decade ago. Fact is, Bill wanted to do other things than software, and his Gates Foundation, funded with billions of his stock donations that split a dozen or more times, and paid no taxes on, is his machine. Bill has found a new motivation the last decade or two, infectious diseases and their effect on populations. So he disappears from the public and MS, and then this worldwide panic starts right after? How does everyone else like being in a Gates lab experiment? And Bill is an active Democrat, complete with his money, never forget this. This Beervirus activity is certainly the biggest threat to Trump's second term. Posted by: LeftCoast Dawg at March 19, 2020 07:20 PM (sy5kK) 350

One of our sound guys is another bass player (he special-ordered a Dingwall fanned-fret 5-string with 2 ea. 9V battries, nice) and last summer he brought in a little black box that you thread onto the strap. He plugged my bass into it and it vibrated at the same fundamental as the note played. Drummers have had a similar device for years. It was unusual. He went through the ranges of the controls and at one point I couldn't see anything but a blur because vibrate like a mofo. Can't remember what it was called. Welp - this last Kung Flu pandemic better get off its lazy ass and start mass infecting everyone if its going to make 10K US confirmed cases and 500 dead by Friday, as was predicted by some panic spreader here on Monday.
Um, not to spread panic, but we are at 13k confirmed cases now. Only 176 dead so far, though, which is nice. Posted by: Grey Fox at March 19, 2020 07:28 PM (nBq51) Posted by: Ben Had at March 19, 2020 07:28 PM (MRP6A) 392

The next two weeks will be crucial in figuring out where we are.
Michigan hasn't even been shut down for a full week, and the first deaths are now being reported. Cases have tripled, but most of that is due to more rigorous testing. If things level off, the restrictions can be lifted. If they keep going up, I don't think any additional limits will work. I know I'm in the minority here for supporting time-tested anti-pandemic measures and my chief complaint is that the governors were too slow in imposing them and now seem to be trying to play catch-up. I'm not sure that will work. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at March 19, 2020 07:29 PM (cfSRQ) 398

clutch - correct; Canada closure exempts almost all cargo (as does EU ban)
GnuBreed - I think it's quite regional. Have spoken with several people in the biz and they say things are fairly normal. Even a few days of "normal" buying across the inventory, and stores would look like they did a week ago (here in SoCal - pretty much normal at that point). You know I too am suspicious of Bill Gates and his foundation and his motives. First it was all we have to do something. Then saying they would distribute tests did that happen. Do not know. Now he is all do not panic it will not be as bad as crazy predictions. What happened Bill did the simple societal experiment you were trying get out of hand
Probably didn't happen. However, one time Gates released a whole bunch of mosquitoes in a room full of donors, then after the presentation, told them that everyone who had been bitten was now infected with malaria. Then he told them oh, just kidding, the mosquitoes were malaria free! They were pissed. True story. Posted by: bonhomme at March 19, 2020 07:31 PM (9t0Zz) 408

The thing is all these businesses closing... Some of them are going to never re-open. Maybe a lot of them. That ma and pa store on the corner cannot survive weeks without any revenue.
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 19, 2020 07:21 PM (KZzsI) That depends a bit - most of a restaurant's cost is labor, wait staff, kitchen staff, bartender, manager, and greeters. You costs, real costs, are any lost fresh food items stored that will not last - expensive. And rent...but if you are a landlord, you'll work out a deal, because you are not getting another renter in that spot anytime soon. So, if the town, county, state gives you a break on real estate taxes, the landlord can hang on. Its dicey - but I am betting that a great deal of the restaurant owners hang on - they do in seasonal places like Montauk, etc. - as long as it isn't needed for over 2 months. >>Um, not to spread panic, but we are at 13k confirmed cases now. Only 176 dead so far, though, which is nice.
New York City was at 814 confirmed cases on Tuesday. It was at 3,615 as of de Blasio's press conference a couple hours ago. And that's just NYC not the whole state which is at 4,597. All of that growth didn't happen in a day. The testing is finally starting to kick in. de Blasio looked like he was on the edge of panic today. He claimed the city only had enough medical supplies/beds to last 2 or 3 weeks. But yeah, blew right through 10,000 and on the march toward 20,000. Posted by: JackStraw at March 19, 2020 07:37 PM (ZLI7S) You can put your hair out - there are over 8.35M people living on top of each other in NYC alone - an incident rate of .043% - NOT death rate, incident rate. The number of people who came and went before travel restrictions happened is unmeasurable. And here we sit two months later with an infectious rate that is incredible small. I have seen Mayor D for sometime look panicked if hobos were being roused too much at Penn - the man is a complete and total nitwit - his emotional responses to anything should have zero impact on a mature persons perspective on this.
