Not the Babylon Bee: "Baltimore Mayor Begs Residents To Stop Shooting Each Other So Hospital Beds Can Be Used For Coronavirus Patients"

Real headline, from CBS.

Baltimore Mayor Jack Young urged residents to put down their guns and heed orders to stay home after multiple people were shot Tuesday night amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Young said hospital beds are needed to treat positive COVID-19 patients and not for senseless violence.

Maybe they can put up signs declaring that Baltimore is a Murder Free Zone, and that any and all murders must take place at least 1000 yards outside the city limits.

They assume that their target audience processes abstract thoughts and concepts?

The same amoral government that has zero problems crashing the economy, nationalizing whole industries, a throwing the planet into global Communism and on the trajectory to Venezuela for all but the Elites - wants criminals and psychopaths to be of higher character than the politicians that triggered this Greatest Hoax?

So I was telling people do we all just think these companies had a massive amount of surplus bandwidth they just weren't using and now, like flipping a switch, here's a bunch more so use it guys! No. They'll have to spread out the current service.

I pay for high speed. Not the highest tier but around 300Mb. Ever since they made that decision my rate has been about a third of that or less, pretty bad. So yeah they're providing more bandwidth for people by spreading my service around. I don't really mind now. But my bill better be spread around too.

You need to check yourself.

In 2006 an above-average flu season closed all the local hospitals.

Closed. Zero beds. Go somewhere else.

Your "logic" is exactly what leads to 1918-style mass die-offs.

You're so certain, so positive that it won't be that bad because God or CNN or someone has a slide show saying it's overblown.

Until it isn't.

No one has any idea where this is going, so the smart play is to take it as seriously as possible. If you don't do that up front, it's millions of dead.

I'm sorry about your inconvenience but the downside risk is literally a mass die off.

Markets can recover.

People can get new jobs.

Death is permanent.

________________

There's an optimistic article on Powerline, about a Nobel Prize-winning chemist who predicts the contagion will be gone in China by the end of March (based on the numbers he is plotting there and elsewhere).

He also says that there is good evidence that the majority of the world's population already has a natural immunity to the virus. In Wuhan, most of the population was probably exposed to the virus, but only 3% got sick. On the Diamond Princess cruise ship, everybody on board was exposed to it, but only 20% were infected. So the majority of people are not going to get infected, even if an infected person sneezes in their face.

Also read earlier this morning that a new test for the virus has been developed that gives results in 1/2 hour, and does not give a lot of false positives. And Fuji, the Japanese camera company, has a subsidiary that has developed a drug that is showing effectiveness in treating people sick with the virus. And of course yesterday several sources reported that some anti-viral drugs used to treat malaria and HIV have been effective in lessening the severity of symptoms of corona virus patients.

So there is good news out there. The media likes to keep people focused on the gloom and doom and worst-case scenarios, but there is good reason to believe that we are getting a handle on this, and the worst case is not going to happen.

Keep the faith. This will get better.

I can accept the Enemedia siding with China and blaming dark US forces that started this thing and framed China.

We just saw something just like that through the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax.

Let say that Hitlerly won in 2016. This engineered flu would have been the catalyst for the exact same thing that is happening today.

The difference between Trump and Hillary in this bold and deliberate execution of Cloward & Piven is that the gun owners in this country trust Trump and will allow Kudlow and others to nationalize whole industries in greater scope than the hostile takeover of Health Care by the Leftists.

GM was a test case. The Climate Change Hoax was a test case to see if people would believe any outrageous lie that require the population to live like paupers and serfs.

We proved that there is no atrocity that we would oppose. So they took the word "Climate Change". replaced it with "Coronavirus", telescoped the Doomsday calendar from years to days and prescribe the same remedy - bow down and worship the State.

This past two weeks we proved the theory that if gun owners trust a particular leader, then the US finally can be taken down and reduced to a New Soviet without a single shot fired.

The ovens will come later this summer, when they, like China start burning the bodies of dissidents "coronavirus victims".

We are buying precious time to get organized. If it's as bad as billed, we will need everything we can get.

We are buying precious time to get organized. If it's as bad as billed, we will need everything we can get.

The IRS, by its own admission, pays out billions of dollars in "tax credits" every year to millions of illegal alien tax filers.

Illegal aliens file tax returns (so they can get the "tax credits" which are thinly-disguised welfare payments) by using an ITIN -- an individual taxpayer identification number. These are used by illegal aliens in place of SS numbers, and the IRS accepts that, knowing that many of these filers are illegal aliens working illegally in the U.S. The IRS issues ITIN's to anybody who asks for one -- no proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residence is required to get one.

If "the smart play" is to give up your freedom whenever the extent of a danger is unknown or uncertain, then get ready for lots of unknowns and uncertainty and no freedom.

355 "This is doubling the number of sick every 3-6 days."

we don't have all data, but one flaw in that is that many get mild cases never noticed ... many don't seem susceptible at all. So once it runs its course through an area ... it starts to level off ... that might be when only 10% have been infected and only 10% of those get sick enough to get tested. And only 10% of those go to the hospital ...

Places like S Korea ... the curve already dropped off, fewer are being infected ... not sure just what point that is, but we may be close to it ... or may reach it well before the millions start doubling ...

also every country has a different curve shape based on cleanliness/smoking/obesity ... and the curve can be flattened, and total infected can be made much less with various changes in action, better treatments, more educated society, "social distancing" etc.

I guess 12,000 dead seems to be the benchmark these days.

That's what everyone is saying.

No, but he appears to work in an Emergency Room.

Moreover, almost anyone can read English.

Whether the numbers are right or not is somewhat irrelevant, since this is what the political leaders are using to base policy decisions.

The better question is whether it's all worth it, if we don't have a functioning country when we come out of this on the other side, no matter how many death we have or avoid.

I remember the crazy around H1N1. Was returning home and had Dr Dean Edell on the radio yammering about how Tamilfu was this great fix for H1N1, but like we are lacking bedspace and ventilators today, they were rationing out Tamiflu. Only the rich and the connected could get it. (which I suppose will be how it plays out today with COVID-19).

So Edell was talking about how H1N1 was allegedly mutating and "evolving" and his solution to how to ration Tamiflu was this - and somehow he managed to keep his job on the radio: "Since Christians don't believe in Evolution, and H1N1 is evolving, these anti-science Christians should be denied Tamiflu so that others can receive it."

It was OK to discriminate then on ideology, it will be same if this thing goes sideways.

I accept deaths from viral outbreaks.

Because viral outbreaks happen all the time.

The last major one had 12 thousand, and literally no one blinked an eye at them.

Did you suffer bouts of anguish at the 12k deaths of H1N1 in 2009?

No, you did not.

Nobody except those directly connected with them even noticed their passing.

Now I would accept a proportional response to the viral outbreak but what we are seeing is so disproportionate it's akin to using a nuclear bomb to take out an anthill.

516 A competitive score in a National level match of 20
shots would be something like 15 - 17 rounds in the 10 inch 10 ring, and
probably half or more of those in the 5 inch X ring.

517 501 Biden's in luck, winning big, and now doesn't have to make speeches or be seen much until the election. I hope Trump doesn't cancel the debates. They could use isolation chambers like in that old quiz show.

=================================

Biden doesn't have to do anything at all, just wait for the forecasted Q1 -5 GDP and Q2 -14!!! GDP to roll in.

There isn't an easier race to win that being Trump's opponent in November.

He has only the judiciary issue to run on now. Biden owns everything else.

I can't smile. Not to my coworkers. Not to my patients. Not to anyone. Not that I have a particularly nice smile. I just like to smile at people and feel the warmth when they smile back.

Fuck this.

Back when I had one of those "job" thingys, I'd wear a mask to grind parts. I drew a smile on it.

Drew a pig nose on one once, too.

There's some surge capability. Leaves can be canceled. Medical personnel can work longer shifts. Elective surgeries can be cancelled or deferred. Exactly what that gets us is the subject of some conjecture.

Staffing with reservists doesn't help that much unless they're retired. You're just pulling doctors out of civilian practice.

I still plan to get solar panels while there is ~25% rebate this year. And then there are the crazy times like this ... unexpected intrusions. 530 I don't understand why people cannot admit that they are making best guesses based on very limited data and assumptions, rather than meticulous models and calculations.
Posted by: bear with asymmetrical balls at March 18, 2020 07:40 PM (H5knJ)

I had an econ professor that enjoyed talking about his experiences being an expert witness. A lawyer would consult him for a case and he would respond with "tell what side you want to argue, and I'll make you a model to support it".

It's pretty simple to massage the numbers, emphasize certain things, downplay or outright ignore others and arrive at exactly the result you wanted. Hell, it's an obvious structural flaw in areas like environmental science now.

This is why I will always default to a skeptical view of all "scientific" claims even coming from supposed experts.

Well, the AhwuFlu guy was rhapsodizing about sulfur dioxide plumes, which supposed only come from burning bodies, and linked to a sat image, which showed sulfur dioxide plumes from about a hundred sites in china alone, and even some over the Pacific Ocean.

Every coal-fired power plant will have a sulfur-dioxide plume at some scale.

True. The imagery was supposed to show a plume centered over Wuhan, in excess of what was normal, but I don't vouch for the accuracy of any of the sources.

If the addict doesn't have the money for a fix, he/she will rob, steal or panhandle to get the money. Meanwhile, the mayor wants cops to arrest people that are out walking their dogs or jogging..Criminals are going to use this COVID19 to their advantage. That's how they think.
