Believe it or not -- the leftwing joke site Vox disagrees with them. John Sexton links their explainer video, stating:
Coronavirus, like SARS before it, originated in China because of a specific set of conditions created under Chinese law. As the Vox video below explains, these bat viruses keep making their way into human populations in China because China has “wet markets” for wildlife animals where bats, pangolins and other live animals are kept close together in confined spaces. In my experience with Chinese folks, the complete lack of anything approaching Western or Judeo-Christian morals or ethics drives most decisions.
At no point in their history has China ever valued the individual in any way. When you treat people like cattle, some will become predators and some will become prey. There are no objective limits upon behavior. Mao was not an outlier in history. He was the product of it. If he had to murder millions to keep power, then he did. He didn't lose sleep over the murders.
Same is true of how they have handled this virus. Lie, cheat, steal, murder, abuse citizens, all in the name of keeping the ruling class in power, not in protecting citizens or doing the right thing. It simply is not their culture to care for anyone, so it is everyone for themself.

My grandfather used to tell me about hunting and eating squirrel when he was a kid, but then he was a poor farm boy in the country, during the Great Depression. For him and his family, shooting some squirrel was a way to get at lease some meat in their stew.
It's amazing how far we've come in a couple generations. For him, the concept of "going to the store" involved a 15 mile walk, one way, unless he could get someone to let him tie a horse up to the wagon so he could ride. Yeah, it was the 30's, but they were much too poor for a car.

I was just reading. This thing is getting worse in the UK. They are a little ahead of us on the curve.
And it's getting dire in Italy. The mortality rate is increasing because of the rationing. If you're over 70, no hospital for you. You're left to die.
Now, we're got our own potential Italy, and that's the huge retiree population in Florida. Now, one hopes that the warmer climate there may help.
But anyway, I'm seeing what has put the fear of God in our authorities, and why they're going so draconian.
I was watching the Surgeon General earlier. The guy is trying his best to be optimistic and confident, but I can see he's shitting his pants.

I've only been to China once and it was disgusting (pre-Olympics).
In Beijing, the men were spitting all over the streets and it did not matter where you were in relation to them. Spitting so much it was all over the ground wherever you walked.
And men, literally urinating all over the place outdoors.
It was gross.
The bathrooms? bleh
In the countryside near Hangzhou and whatnot, you could find holes in the ground out in the open.
Shanghai was pretty metropolitan and much cleaner.
I heard it cleaned up for the Olympics, but it was culturally unsanitary.

A couple of years ago, Chinese immigrants up here went dipnetting and took well over their portion of the salmon run. Instead of cleaning them and returning the guts to the river like they are supposed to, they took them elsewhere so they wouldn't get caught by the Troopers for taking so many. They dumped a several hundred pound load of fish guts at the base of a hiking trail just south of Anchorage on the only highway, right where a grizzly bear had attacked a young runner earlier that spring.
I'm sure it bothered them not at all, until the Trooper figured out who had done it and locked their asses up.
I would have made them clean up the mess with their tongues and a toothbrush, but that's just me. Put everyone in danger so they could cheat and steal.
And no, all cultures are certainly NOT equal.

And in freaking CA they're "endangered". I kid you not. I've had them get into my attic and do thousands of dollars in damage, even killed a palm tree. Can't trap/kill them, they fall under the jurisdiction of Fish & Game. So, I have to pay some guy $150 per to humanely trap and release. He then fills out all of the paperwork regarding this.
I'd shoot them, but can't rely on the bleeding heart neighbors to not report me. So I've got to be pretty stealthy with an air rifle. They're a bit too skittish to catch down in the yard, so if I blow one off of the fence I can't risk it landing on somebody else's property or fine and jail time.
But, if I were a bum, or an illegal, it's all fine.

It gets even worse - there was an incident with bats last year and many workers had to be isolated. This was in Chinese news, but it did not say if they were sick, or why they were isolated. It is possible that that incident was the initial source.
The next question is what were the bats infected with? Sounds like it was an experimental lab created virus since otherwise how would they even know to isolate after being bit by bats?

It gets even worse - there was an incident with bats last year and many workers had to be isolated. This was in Chinese news, but it did not say if they were sick, or why they were isolated. It is possible that that incident was the initial source.
The next question is what were the bats infected with? Sounds like it was an experimental lab created virus since otherwise how would they even know to isolate after being bit by bats?

The roughness of the surface at the microscopic area is one of the things that determines persistence of the virus. Cloth, wood natural finish (not polyurethaned), and so forth, virus does not last as long.
Really worried about it, uv from sunlight kills the stuff pretty quickly as does heating it up to 150 F. I suspect a steam cleaner would work but no confirmation on that and it depends on the steam's temp. A heat gun would probably fry it but you might blow it around first with that so not recommended.
Major thing on cross contamination is to clean hard slick surfaces, open your packages outside and leave the boxes etc. out there, wash your clothes when you have been outside around other people, wash your hands before you touch your face/nose etc.
Hygiene is extremely important as preventing cross contamination as the infections rise from things that are preventable like shipping packaging, touching door handles without a tissue or gloves, etc.

BTW, only the initial phase of an epidemic curve is exponential. Only while the number of infected is an insignificant fraction of the total population. Once it becomes appreciable, it slows down.
And when you get to the more sophisticated models, that take into account spatial spread of the population, and the stochastic nature of transmission dynamics, even that initial exponential becomes a polynomial.
It's a high exponent, and close, but not the real cigar.

If you have cloth, they are easy to wash.
Some people have those plastic vinyl ones.
People should use the cloth ones like any clothing. Use a handful to shop, toss them in the wash. I have so many bags that I can do at least 3-4 runs with washed ones before washing them. And I never put meat packaging in them without using those produce plastic bags to wrap them in first. If I am buying a lot of meat or a big turkey or something, I grab one of their bags.
But mostly, I refuse to pay for my damn bags at the store. I do not remember how much they charge, but it is bs. I am mad for the surcharge on plastic drink containers too. We pay upfront and have to bring them back for the money exchange. Which we don't do. I toss them in the recycle bin. So may fees tacked on just to go grocery shopping. Sick of it.
And we do not get a discount for packing our own bags.

That information is not new, it's at least two weeks old, as discussed by the Dr. Osterholm on Rogan's show. The secondary confirmation is new. Wuhan virus travels by breathing alone and lives in the air for three hours. It's a virus so it flies right through masks except for the best of them. How exactly is anyone not going to be infected? We will all get it eventually.
So the question is then, what do we do about it? If we let everyone get infected (the herd immunity argument) we assume that 1) it cannot reinfect (which is questionable at this point) and 2) the spike will happen anyway. The only thing we get from lockdown is a potential flattening of the spike for critical care beds, which is plainly a death sentence for older infected people.

They're also inveterate gamblers. Just about every time I stop at the c-store near the house there a couple of Chinese people buying stacks of lottery tickets.

When I am sick, I can sweat a bottle of water and a bottle of Gatorade out in an hour. Every hour. Or sometimes if my gastrointestinal tract is about to go full flow, I notice I am very thirsty and drinking lots of fluids.
Make sure you have a lot of Gatorade or Pedialyte in the house. You will need it if you get the Wuhan Pneumonia or any of the other dozen conventional illnesses.

OMG they were severely enforcing social distancing. The surly clerk was at least 6 feet away from the counter as she told/ordered me to give her my papers. Then told/ordered me to go to the wall as she looked at my papers. It was insane bu the good was I got in and out in about 30 minutes. So there is finally a W for the Chinese Flu and AIDS Lung disease.
Also funny was there were four Asian people, could have been Chinese where the Chinese Flu and AIDS Lung disease originated. All of them had masks on and they were the only ones in a crowd of 50.

Here's why I don't find that convincing: My understanding is that diseases generally do not expand exponentially indefinitely. So you need more of a model than just saying "exponent" to justify sweeping measures.
And even if you think sweeping measures must be taken, you need to have some kind of model that tells you how sweeping. You don't want to be destroying livelihoods and diminishing personal freedoms more than is necessary.

Only the initial phase when the infected number is an insignificant fraction of the total population. The R0 parameter determines that initial exponent.
Once the infected and recovered become significant fractions of the population, it slows down, then peaks, and tails off.
Much more sophisticated models show even the initial exponential is not really that, but just a polynomial of a high power.

As to Ace's original post, I am an American of Chinese ethnic extraction and of course have no problem with describing COVID-19 as the Wuhan virus, the Chinese virus, or whatever. Honestly I could do without the "slant-eyed, small-dicked, bat-eater" sort of ripostes, but I understand that those are really more about upping the ante in the SJW culture wars than the much-dreaded "backlash" the MSM will claim it to be. And in any event, a pluralistic society requires some level of good humor and thick skin, which is endangered online but still seems to prevail in real life.

One of the goals of bio warfare is to engineer the pathogen so that the initial carriers not only transmit while asymptomatic, but that a huge percentage of all of those who recover from what are shown to be mild cases during the initial onset relapse and succumb some 30 plus days after first presenting the, if any, mild symptoms.
Contagious the whole time.
I don’t think this is the case here, but that is a goal of bio weapons.
Only way that is viable for implementing desperate and inretractible attack of this nature is if there is a vaccine of some sort or even more well planned and reliable engineering.
I am in the not happening camp.
Reaction from Trump indicates a better safe than sorry approach. I agree with that damned if we do damned if we do not always do no choice but to do logic.
