The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

I must say that the high level of butthurt over Elizabeth Warren dropping out of the race caught me a bit by surprise.

Listen to this clown: "To repeat the obvious: there is no other explanation except for misogyny for what has happened to Senator Warren this year. Sadly, a proof of concept. Profoundly depressing." And he claims to be a law professor at Yale!

Naturally, it's not Warren's fault. None of this is Warren's fault.

It's the fault of "misogyny". Pelosi make a similar claim last week. So have other Democrats and media commentariat (BIRM).

And all of these comments, every last one of them, are being thrown out there with a "what can you do?" despair. Like this is some kind of natural disaster that just sort of happened.

But of course they're nat asking the real question. These are Democrat primaries, therefore most of the voters are Democrat voters, so the real question they have to come to terms with is, why are *Democrat voters* so misogynistic?

Any reasonably self-reflective group would be asking itself this questions, and maybe even developing strategies to combat it (maybe some workshops, voter education, I'm just spitballing here), but these are progressives who by their very nature are not self-reflective. In fact, they avoid self-reflection at all costs.

It's just like in the old USSR: the 5-year plans would fail, production goals would fall short, factories would output junk, and so somebody must be blamed for this. "Saboteurs" and "wreckers" they were called, and they must be discovered and rooted out. Somebody has to be blamed for these failures. It was never the fault of the bureaucrats and party bosses whose intentions were so pure and noble.

And that's not the only comparison with the old USSR that can be made. This disappointed professor complains "The total routing of Elizabeth Warren last night, the straight up disrespectful dismissal, after all that lady’s hard work — it’s absolutely sexist and patriarchal, and I don’t care to hear any other hot takes than that one. Don’t @ me with no bullshit." So she's saying that Warren deserved to win because she "worked hard."

Heh. You know what this is, don't you? At the core of Marxist economics is something called the labor theory of value, which argues that the economic value of a good or service is determined not by the market but by the total amount of "socially necessary labor" required to produce it. So if it takes longer to make something, it's worth more.

Therefore, according to this theory, Warren's campaign has intrinsic value because she "worked hard." And therefore it follows that if the value can't be realized, it must be somebody else's fault. It can never be because she was a lousy candidate whom nobody wanted to vote for.

So this is why progressivism can never be truly self-reflective. And why much of progressive thought consists of figuring out who to blame for its failures.

Friday's celebs: The birth name of Friday's female celeb was Joanne Letitia LaCock, so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that it was changed to Joanne Dru. She is the older sister of the host of the Hollywood Squares game show. The male celeb is Montgomery Clift, who led a troubled life (booze, drugs, psychiatric issues) and died all too young, at age 45.

It's a reflection of America at large.

America isn't ready to accept a woman president, so Democrats were prudent and refused to put up someone that they knew America was too sexist to accept as a candidate.

It's odd, but Woolf has many little funny bits all through it. George, for instance, says at one point, "When I was a young man, during the Punic Wars . . ."

Martha calls from offstage, and George tells the young couple, "Hark! Forest sounds."

124 From Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers,
"He had been droning along about 'value', comparing the Marxist theory with the orthodox 'use' theory. Mr. Dubois had said, 'Of course, the Marxian definition of value is ridiculous. All the work one cases to add will not turn a mud pie into an apple tart; it remains a mud pie, value zero. By corollary, unskillful work can easily subtract value; an untalented cook can turn wholesome dough and fresh green apples, valuable already, into an inedible mess, value zero. Conversely, a great chef can fashion of the same materials a confection of greater value than a commonplace apple tart, with no more effort than an ordinary cook uses to prepare an ordinary sweet.

'These kitchen illustrations demolish the Marxian theory of value - the fallacy from which the entire magnificent fraud of communism derives - and to illustrate the truth of the common-sense definition as measured in terms of use.'

Morons with Hollywood knowledge, is there truth to the rumors that Taylor started sleeping with Mickey Rooney when she was 14 and he was in his 20s and married? And that his pregnant wife caught them together in his trailer? It was in a tell-all book, but I never know when to believe those things.

Yes; George and Martha are horrible people. Their value to each other is on the order of "Who else could stand us?" Though by the end of the play, we find they have a pitiable secret that makes them human. But no sane sober person would want to spend an evening with them.

As for Mickey Rooney, I don't know, but he was rumored to have one of the biggest schvantzes in H'wood. What God took away in one dimension, He gave back in another.

168 By the time she played Martha in Virginia Woolf, yes. But in all the pics OM posted, she's either eye-wateringly lovely, or damned attractive.

--

I once saw some behind-the-scenes stills from Virginia Woolf, and she looked nothing like her character, who was supposed to look rode hard and put up wet. She was still quite beautiful and youthful during that movie. But they did a good job of making her into Martha.

Human nature is the reason Marxian theory does not work ... it assumes all are equally able and equally motivated. Or that central planning can place each worker in the perfect job, according to their ability. (and not give their own children a better job, and a neighbor they hate a shiit job)

The main problem of central planning is it conjures up central corruption, along with unmotivated workers. ("they pretend to pay us, we pretend to work") The theory works in theory.

They used to do that stuff in Kentucky. The County got one of those Military surplus MRAP vehicles to use for "hostage situations" but they never had a hostage situation so they would roll it out for a bunch of questionable stuff like serving warrants on what they considered dangerous people and things like that.

That thing was expensive to run. It got something like 2-3 gallons to the mile and had special self sealing tires that costs 3-4 thousand each to replace.

Plus they had nobody who was certified to work on it so if something broke it took weeks to get it fixed and cost a small fortune to have somebody come in and fix it.

233 191 illniwek, I agree.

Communism is more or less a grotesque parody of a functional intact loving family. The parents work, invest, and provide for their children because of love while the children can grow up. An extended family, doesn't work so well, a village, a bit less so that coercion comes into the equation, and a country--eh, forget it. Even with deadly coercion, the Soviet Union still fell because of self interest and the family. No wonder the buggers want to get rid of intact families, it destroyed their dreams.

Applied to a society, there is no love between strangers and the lower the trust index, the worse the fit. Trust occurs because of experience, kinship, and love. Communism kind of skips that part.

They figured out ground zero for the deaths in the Washington nursing home. Was a nurse exposed to Coronavirus at the hospital, that also moonlights at the nursing home. Not testing residents who were roommates with infected patients, calling up a patient's children whose parent died to say they were fine when they were not...SO many errors there.

251 They figured out ground zero for the deaths in the Washington nursing home. Was a nurse exposed to Coronavirus at the hospital, that also moonlights at the nursing home. The way that home has bungled all of this, I would not be surprised if they are sued out of oblivion. Not testing residents who were roommates with infected patients, calling up a patient's children whose parent died to say they were fine when they were not...SO many errors there.

Much of what we 'see' as 'crude oil prices' are anything but.

Oh, you think dragging people off the street and throwing them into metal boxes in the back of a truck is totes cool and emulation-worthy, Todd?

How about dragging them out of their homes, kicking and screaming?

Or maybe you think it's more admirable to board up the opening of their homes in forced quarantine?

264 Capitalism can also be evil ... so we have government to protect our liberty. Laws to protect consumer from bad products, to make slave use illegal, to prevent most (real) pollution, to stop monopolies from controlling markets ...

But much of that was circumvented, largely in China, as WallStreet bought DC and exported production where they could profit off slaves and not worry about pollution, and throw injured or aged workers in the river.

Government was supposed to protect us from enemies foreign and domestic. They got bought by the "capitalists". We are a nation founded in liberty, under which umbrella "free trade" can thrive, with proper oversight. (but now we have funny money intervention, and global wars are economic, and America is fully invested in WallStreet's game ...)

268 Human nature is the reason Marxian theory does not work ... it assumes all are equally able and equally motivated.

Consider Comrade Bernie's comment over the weekend that if a vaccine for Covid-19 is found, it should be given away for free.

Under Communism, the ability to study biochemistry for eight or ten years, then work another ten or more years in a lab developing a vaccine... is subjugated to the need of someone else to have a vaccine without paying for it.

Why work your ass off for all those years if all you get in the end is a medal from the party committee thanking you for your work.

Warren is unlikable. The stupid shit that comes out of her mouth disgusts me, but I must admit that her mannerisms and shrill tone really put me off.

A couple of years ago I was able to see "Cleopatra" in a Cinerama theater. Liz Taylor was 20' tall. My mind is still in awe of her beauty.

A couple of weeks ago I was able to watch Elizabeth "Pocahontas" Warren get kicked to the curb by Democrat primary voters many of whom were women. Her campaign failed, not because of misogyny but because she lied about who she is for decades Even left wingers want honest Marxists leading them over the cliff. My mind is still in awe of over this moment of clarity.
