Mitt Romney: The Investigation Into Hunter Biden "Appears Political" and Therefore Must Not Be Undertaken by the Senate. And No, I'm Not Going to Explain Why I Supported the Obviously Political Investigation Into Trump in the Senate.

Pierre Delecto's alt account speaks.

Via Tami.

Oh, and as you read this, keep this tidbit in mind:

Burisma faced a money-laundering investigation and questions over how it had obtained some of its licenses to drill for natural gas. In spring 2014, the company appointed Hunter Biden and a former Polish president, Aleksander Kwasniewski, to its board. Three years later, Burisma added Cofer Black, a former CIA official and foreign policy adviser to Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, to the board.

"I believe the only reason Burisma and Zlochevsky were inviting people with such names was to whitewash their reputation and to present themselves as a company doing legitimate business in Ukraine," says Daria Kaleniuk, head of the nongovernmental Anti-Corruption Action Center in Kyiv.

You might wonder why no one in the establishment media of either political orientation asks Romney about this, or wonders about Romney's own conflict of interest.

Shouldn't Mitt Romney recuse himself as he no doubt urged Jeff Sessions to do?

11 Willowed, because of course...

611 Like we're going to find out just how much fire is in Sanders' belly to be POTUS (I suspect very little beyond another deposit in his personal bank account and maybe another mansion), we're going to find out what's next for Lieawatha.

If she endorses Biden it's a sign that she's the sell-out we all believed her to be and her support base will howl for a week and then go back to smoking weed. It indicates that she's planning on staying in the Senate until death because she's done at the national level. MA will re-elect her because Democrat.

If she endorses Bernie it signals that she's a true believer and wants to be an "elder statesquaw" in the new Bernie/AOC commie-caucus. The DNC will abandon her but she will certainly pick-up the "progressive" mantle in 2024 and try again as the "outsider". It means she's bored being in The World's Most Deliberately Arrogant Body and is thinking it's POTUS (eventually) or bust.

We'll know in probably less than 36-hours.

If the President doesn't have either a handcuffed Biden or acting AG Rudy Giuliani by May, I genuinely think he would owe Biden an apology. Today's "best' campaign letter of the day
from the "NY Post"

Biden's win proves that he is the man to take the party towards victory in the 2020 election.
Biden has proved that he is the man best suited to seize the mantle of global leadership.
He will bolster the American economy, fight climate change, take on the NRA and improve the functions of our institutions.
He's not "sleepy". In fact, he's fully awake. We should nominate Joe Biden to show the world that the backbone of America is resilient and the rights outlined in the Constitution should be granted with equal opportunity to all.

On November 3, 2020, per Georgia law, a special general election will take place on the same day as the regularly scheduled U.S. Senate election for the seat currently held by David Perdue. A primary election will not occur; instead, all candidates, regardless of party, will be placed on the same ballot. Party labels will be printed on the ballot and if no candidate receives a majority of the vote, the top two finishers will advance to a run-off election, to be held on January 5, 2021.

I blame Kemp, especially how all the conservatives in the state had his back during the last election and Abrams fiasco, then he turns around and appoints an unknown rich socialite who conservatives should have zero faith in to the open seat.

441 Late comment.

Didn't Bernie put off running in 2016 while he deferred to Senator Elizabeth Warren to be the Progressive Candidate? She dithered for a while before deciding not to run, and Bernie jumped in almost immediately afterwards.

One of the reasons he started out slow was that he didn't start his 2016 campaign early enough.

That's the way our system works. If a party is too out of step, it reforms from within and becomes a new party. There's an adjusting period, but the same thing happened during Reagan's takeover and under the table after Reagan to get these current turds.

A primary election will not occur; instead, all candidates, regardless of party, will be placed on the same ballot. Party labels will be printed on the ballot and if no candidate receives a majority of the vote, the top two finishers will advance to a run-off election, to be held on January 5, 2021.

The Whigs were always a flawed party - they were in effect the Anti-Democrat party. In the North, that was where anti-Slavery (well more precisely anti-extension) went and in the South it was were the fire-eaters that were super Pro Slavery were.

They only won when slavery issues were absent, and tended to run Generals who were politically neutral. They only landed 2 presidents, both of whom died in office.

As the slavery bump in the National Carpet got unignorable, first the Southern Whigs died out and became Democrats, and the rest added a bit of minor party support and became Republicans.

Then the sectional stress began to bifurcate the Democrats as well.

509 49 I don't expect or even want the Senate to pursue an "investigation." They are cucks at best. Bill Barr should have dragged out Hunter Biden in cuffs yesterday. If the President doesn't have either a handcuffed Biden or acting AG Rudy Giuliani by May, I genuinely think he would owe Biden an apology. It would be a loud statement that nothing the Bidens did was an actual crime, even by Trump's standards.
=============

It's uncomfortable to talk out loud about, but the honest salient facts here are this:

Large portions of Federal law enforcement and intelligence apparatus have been corrupted by partisan Democrat interests. There appear also to be cells of GOP partisan corruption, and there is likely some overlap between the two, reducing to politically corrupted units. Generally, this results in wide spread "hands off" approach to investigations, and if a non-corrupt cell gets a fingerhold into the corruption, the corrupted cells attack, delay, counter and generally thwart those investigations.

The GOP doesn't have the political power to do anything about, clearly. I suspect many on the GOP also don't have the will to do anything about it because no one in DC wants to crack open the putrid cesspool of corruption that has run rampant in DC in its present form for 40-50 years.

In short, the 'Deep State" as we have come to know it, is currently in the same state as the main stream Media was 20 years ago -- Still in the phase of maintaining public-facing optics/narrative of fair & just administration. But everyone knows our administrative state is corrupt, menacing and most importantly -- beyond the point that it can be fixed, absent Black Swan action that must be taken by Congress and the Executive.

There are factions wishing the GOP that are aware of all of this and are trying to do something, but can't. Even if Trump wins re-election, AND the GOP re-takes the House, it does not appear to be enough GOP power players that have the will and vision to implement the types of reforms that are now necessary.

So, these little GOP factions will investigate Biden/Burisma, which at best will result in Congressional Hearings that the Media won't cover and won't report on, except to hand waive them away is either political or conspiracy theories or both. The end result -- best case -- is that enough of the info gets through to affect the vote of 2-5% of the public.

Sorry to be a doomer, but he way DC has fought back against the biggest political scandal of all time (2016 Russia!), which followed Benghazi, Gun Runner, IRS 501(c)(3) targeting of GOP in 2012 election cycle (Lois Lerner and Holly Paz. Spit.), and the fact that NO ONE anywhere has paid the slightest price for any of it (in fact, most bad actors have made more money since their bad acts), leads me to conclude that we are in fact doomed.

535 re: politically connected people or relatives of politically connected people being on a corporate board it seems to me that the actual operations of the company are governed by the corporate officers, not by the board of directors. The officers present only that information that they choose to the board, in a highly filtered manner. The board then generally serves as a rubber stamp, to lend some degree of credence. A fig leaf if you will.

538 523 *McCain ruined Palin's future by choosing her before she was ready.*

I am in total agreement.
==========

I disagree. Palin was the first to suffer an early version of the mass-scale Coordinated Character Assassination weapon we have now seen deployed against Trump, Kavanaugh, etc.

It wasn't that Palin wasn't ready for the stage, it was that the GOP wasn't ready to have that weapon deployed against it. Sadly, they still aren't.

And McCain? Not only was he not ready for deployment of that weapon, he was willingly oblivious that it was used against him. He thought -- similarly to present-day Pierre Delicto -- that because he sided with Dems and the Progressives on many issues and thus was able to print editorials in the NYT and to generally be propped up as the public face of the GOP (by the Liberal media), he would have a well of support on the Left (and in its controlled Media) such that they wouldn't use nasty tactics against him and he might win the Presidency!

This is an interesting discussion, because I think Palin is a lot like Trump, in that she's a competent outsider. Palin, more than Trump I think, is also very anti-corruption and willing to do something about it. Said another way, I think if Palin was substituted for Trump -- same facts -- Palin would be a lot more effective than Trump has been about fighting back...

544 @509:

Perfect.

Spot on.

Let's add what no one else wants to mention, either. This will end in violence, and there seems no way to stop it. The oppression will ratchet up and become more widespread with a Waco o' The Week giving way to a daily event. The public largely will accept it, with a few dissidents here and there, until an economic collapse and/or the nation suffers a military humiliation or a natural tragedy like widespread natural disaster or a pandemic. Then the shooting starts from, as Jonah Goldberg would put it, both sides.

Massive government reforms and political dissolutions seem out of reach now and the course is set. The failure to punish a coup attempt shows this.
