The Quotes of The Day
Quote I
“Price gouging restrictions have gone into effect statewide," Becerra said at a news conference. “These price gouging restrictions make it illegal for businesses to raise the prices of most goods and services by more than 10%. Those goods and services include -- but aren’t limited to -- emergency supplies, medicine and medical supplies, food and drink.” Attorney General Xavier Becerra (D-CA)
Quote II
The young who ski know they will never die. The oldies cling to a fantasized life and think that death will not happen today or tomorrow but sometime in the faraway future. The trouble is that life should be celebrated for its ephemeral beauties, with death recognized as ever present and just around the corner. Taki
Quote III
"You probably wouldn't worry about what people think of you if you could know how seldom they do." Olin Miller
Quote IV
They are turning our neighborhoods into military states.
They will claim that this is an isolated incident. It's not.
Then they will say this person has a criminal warrant. Nope, probably an immigration violation that doesn't require this type of violent aggressive treatment. Rep. Rashida Talib (D-State of Palestine)
The US is a delivery nation. The rise of e-commerce means more purchases are brought right to people’s doorstep than ever before, both at work and at home.
The increase in online purchasing has led to an explosion in the number of people whose job involves delivery. From January 2018 to January 2020, the number of workers in the “courier and messenger” industry jumped from 690,000 to 850,000, according to recently released data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is the fastest rate of growth of employment in any industry over the past two years among the 88 industries with over 500,000 employees as of 2020
he situation in the no-mans-land between Turkey and Greece is becoming increasingly more violent and desperate for the refugees. Reporters on a tour heard gunshots despite the Greek government denying the use of anything except tear gas to stop the refugees.
Daily Beast:
For over an hour, the sound of people trying to direct each other in multiple languages through farms, woodlands, and across riverbanks was punctuated by shots. First it sounded like single rifle blasts, then came bursts of three, and then longer, heavier automatic fire.
However, when Papastathis appeared on Wednesday afternoon to direct us to the new location, he denied absolutely that we had heard what we heard.
“Only tear gas is being fired,” he insisted to a group of a dozen journalists on the tracks.
While campaigning on behalf of former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) had an embarrassing verbal flub when she accidentally told a crowd of Biden supporters that she was joining the ticket as the nominee’s vice president.
According to Amanda Golden of NBC News, Klobuchar had a “bit of a Freudian slip” when the former Democratic presidential candidate said she “couldn’t think of a better way to end my candidacy than join the ticket.”
What a delicious malfunction.
When residents of a village in Italy recently turned on their faucets, an intoxicating red liquid poured out. A “valve failure” at a nearby winery had converted water lines into wine dispensers.
A customer database left unsecured online by Virgin Media contained details linking some customers to pornography and explicit websites.
The researchers who first discovered the database told the BBC that it contained more information than Virgin Media suggested.
Such details could be used by cyber-criminals to extort victims.
Virgin Media told the BBC only a small number of customers had these sensitive details in the database.
The UK telecoms company revealed on Thursday that one of its "marketing databases" containing details of 900,000 people was open to the internet and had been accessed "on at least one occasion" by an unknown user.
On Friday, it confirmed that the database contained details of about 1,100 customers who had used an online form to ask for a particular website to be blocked or unblocked.
It said it was in the process of contacting customers again about specific data that may have been stolen.
Is 2020 going to be the year all of Big Tech’s developer conferences got canceled? It’s looking like it might well be. In the wake of the coronavirus, the in-person versions of Facebook’s F8 and Google’s Cloud Next have been canceled and are set to be replaced with virtual events that will be streamed to participants. Google has also canceled Google I/O, and has been less specific about any plans to host an online version.
As I write, Microsoft hasn’t yet canceled its Build event, scheduled for May 19 in Seattle, but this statement appears on the Build website: “In light of the global health concerns due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Microsoft is monitoring public health guidance in relation to in-person events. At this time, global health authorities have not issued guidance to avoid travel to this location.”
Pressure may be ratcheting up on Apple to cancel its WWDC conference, which remains unannounced for 2020 but usually happens in early June in San Jose. The public health department of Santa Clara County (which includes San Jose) issued an updated advisory on Thursday

Police have charged two women for an alleged fight over dwindling supplies of toilet paper in a Sydney supermarket.
Police said they were called to a Woolworths store at Chullora about 7am on Saturday after reports a 49-year-old woman had been assaulted.
A video of the incident was shared on social media and showed a small group of women pushing, yelling and fighting over a shopping cart filled with toilet paper.
“We just ask that people don’t panic like this when they go out shopping,” the New South Wales police acting inspector Andrew New said. “There is no need for it. It isn’t the Thunderdome, it isn’t Mad Max, we don’t need to do that.
“Violence of this nature will not be tolerated and anyone involved in this behaviour may be committing an offence and find themselves before the court.

Drawback:

2) Heterosexual.
I don't think for a second that she could beat Trump, even if Biden goes down without being rebootable, but she would probably be far less disastrous for the down-ticket races than Tank, Fauxcahontas, or any of the other names that have been floated. And no, it's not going to be Hitlery or Mooch.

It's nice that CPAC is telling the Important People the name of the person with coronavirus, so that they can isolate and take other steps, while refusing to tell the Unimportant People who attended the conference the name of the person with coronavirus, so they can potentially isolate and take other steps.
If it's a violation of medical privacy to tell Joe Conservative the name of the coronavirus victim, it's a violation to tell Cruz.

Corona again as a topic. Good. I'll drop one more helpful hint about reducing pneumonia risk. Deep breathing. Keep the diaphragm strong and reduce the congestion that viruses and bacteria adore. This is why you get one of those annoying spirometers after a surgery...to prevent a hospital acquired pneumonia.

Otherwise known as rationing. And that's exactly the alternative to raising prices during demand spikes. Limit 'n' per customer.

Notes from the front lines of COVID-19. Edited out the parts only relevant to clinicians.
1. The most common presentation was one week prodrome of myaglias, malaise, cough, low grade fevers gradually leading to more severe trouble breathing in the second week of illness. It is an average of 8 days to development of dyspnea and average 9 days to onset of pneumonia/pneumonitis. It is not like Influenza, which has a classically sudden onset. Fever was not very prominent in several cases.
3. So far, there have been very few concurrent or subsequent bacterial infections, unlike Influenza where secondary bacterial infections are common and a large source of additional morbidity and mortality.
4. Patients with underlying cardiopulmonary disease seem to progress with variable rates to ARDS and acute respiratory failure requiring BiPAP then intubation. There may be a component of cardiomyopathy from direct viral infection as well. Intubation is considered "source control" equal to patient wearing a mask, greatly diminishing transmission risk. BiPAP is the opposite, and is an aerosol generating procedure and would require all going into the room to wear PAPRs.

>>> Is 2020 going to be the year all of Big Tech's developer conferences got canceled? It's looking like it might well be. In the wake of the coronavirus, the in-person versions of Facebook's F8 and Google's Cloud Next have been canceled and are set to be replaced with virtual events that will be streamed to participants. <<<
I have wondered for a long time why the Big Tech outfits in the SF Bay Area do not allow telework from anywhere in the country, or at least anywhere within several hundred miles of SF Bay, so their workers aren't forced to pay exorbitant rents, mortgage payments, and general living expenses.
If those companies do offer to let people telework from long distance, but the woke employees desire to live in the Bay Area and have little expendable income and are willing to suffer burglaries and human waste outside their doors, well, maybe those people aren't as smart as their employers think.

DC and the agencies homed there are even worse about telework than Silicon Valley. Govvies like to be able to hover and micromanage. Takes a near-miracle to become a full time telecommuter on Federal contracts.

Hell of it is, if she had actually in fact really fucked her brother, she could pass it off as some quaint Somali custom that we palefaces are too dumb to understand. But, by not having fucked him, she makes it clear that the only reason for the "marriage" was immigration fraud.
Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at March 08, 2020 10:46 PM (miJU3)
The CDC has teams that contact trace people who are infected, and they are asked to name anyone they had contact with. So that happens for anyone. If the person met Joe the Plumber, and remembered his name, he would have told the CDC and the they would have asked him to self quarantine.
But that is stupid since it only covers things in one direction. They need to publish (well, not now. now it is too late) the name and schedule of everyone who tested positive so that people can be proactive.
But it's too late for that. The CDC didn't just screw the pooch on this, they married it and raised a pooch family. They have pooch grandkids running around, and the CDC is probably molesting them too.

Been reading on the Twatter about all the musicians and local actors and bloggers in California getting red-pilled by AB5 and their elected Democrats saying "cross my palms with union-scale bakshish or talk to the hand". I really like the reap what you sow karma, but despite their threats to vote Republican if the law isn't modified for their own little loopholes, I don't believe they have seen the light. That last pic is Monument Valley, of course. Part of the Navajo Indian reservation. Countless movies filmed there. Just about every calendar (remember those) ever made includes a shot of a mesa or two. It is an amazing place. No camping allowed there though.
Climbers first scaled the Totem Pole in the 1950s. I've always been terrified of thin sandstone spires and such. I always figured it would tip over in the wind while I was up there, and I wouldn't like that. Goolag Earth must have turned high definition on when they scanned this area, lots of razor sharp resolution. I can spend hours looking at some of the desert stuff. Anything, old mining camps, top secret .mil airfields, WTF is that, etc. Or follow a dirt road and see where it leads.

It's the low level circuits responding to certain stimuli. Pattern recognition, you might say, burned in the ol' brain hardware by millennia of natural selection.
You have to wait 'til puberty to complete the high level wiring of the circuits and it all makes sense.

We could be cousins! It's fun to take a road to see where it goes in this part of the world.
You would like Fisher Towers and the back road from Cisco to Moab, Utah. Or go north from Thompson Springs up on the East Tavaputs, which is now reservation land. Or explore Range Creek, just north of Green River, below the West Tavaputs.

SO how come every other country on earth has been able to put them to shame? I mean, Korea!!! (no offense to Koreans, but read up on the Sewol if you want to understand my shock). Italy!!!!,
This is inexcusable.
And don't tell me the problem was in the WH. The WH should not have to micromanage this stuff. The WH should be irrelevant. If it depends on the WH to react and get things done, then this country is fucked beyond repair.

The Koreans have done better, and by "better" we're just talking about the availability of test kits, because they already have so many cases. The test kit problems we've had here in the US are primarily the result of a bureaucrat's impulse to dot all the i's and cross the t's before anything happens.
I have a pretty good working familiarity with Korea. The government there is terribly corrupt, and while I'm not exactly sure how the corruption will manifest itself, I can guarantee you we're not getting the whole story in one way or another.

228That's one reason I kinda believe the gays when they say they were born that way, and remain skeptical of the "recruiting" theory.
CDC's like a lot of government agencies - it originally had a very narrow brief to stop epidemics (particularly malaria), and discovered that it could get more power and funding if it kept expanding its mission, even if it meant downgrading its actual function.

Anyway, that's total reserve bank credit, which (less some details) is proportional to how much money they're injecting into the system outstanding.
You can see they started slowly winding down their balance sheet in 2018, but started ramping up again around August of 2019.
They still haven't reached the previous peak, and they appear to have flattened off that second ramp up. If this corona panic gets out of hand, they may start ramping again.

yes, because stocks ALWAYS go up, just keep the faith baby. Government will go to war and even destroy the currency to make sure stocks go up ... and housing values always go up, it is like an anti-gravity machine ... never fight the fed.
In time monetary policy can't keep controlling the masses, or if they could, it would not be a good thang. We are getting Marxism by proxy of monetary infinite "money" policy. Money in quotes because it is not real money, it is federal reserve note ... debt backed by nothing but the blind faith of the public, even as the thieves steal everything. tick tock

Met with a gentleman who is running against Matt
Shea in eastern Washington's 4th district. Impressed me as a handshake
kind of man. He has legislative experience. I donated to his campaign. I
am not easily impressed by people nor do I give my money away freely.
To any lurkers from the 4th district give the man, Leonard Christian (R)
your consideration. Shea needs to be removed.

I liked the dog training video, but it did show how scary strong dogs are.
I visited a friend who had a Great Dane and thought I would play tug of war. He had a wrapping on one paw and was on linoleum in the kitchen, while I was braced in a doorway on carpet. I went for a belly ride though the house.

@393 - thank you. I love dogs and cats and am so very grateful when they let me pet them.

Illiniwek your sentiment is one a lot of people express. It is unfortunate that the financial markets frequently seem to be a haven for scoundrels but they also represent real jobs, and earnings and companies and invested capital. Despite the scoundrels they consistently produce better results and economic miracles than any government agency or managed "investment" board can produce. I'll ride out this storm and the next ones to benefit from logic returning whether in a few days, or months.

yes I understand ... BUT ... do you understand the storm? I'll be fine ... and I spent a couple years in the dotcom era, day trading (or "swing trading" ... over days, not hours) .. trying to figure it out, 12 hours a day on chats with some really smart folks (SOESS group, and in daytraders in othernet at mIRC).
So I get it ... but do YOU? Markets are rigged games, government has decided to back the markets, policy set to keep the cocaine hysteria at fever pitch. Sure it DOES promote economic activity, but also just raw trading activity, where profits are extracted by gamblers, gamblers that pay to rig the game.
Debt has leveraged up the markets ... economic activity is good in normal times, perhaps not so much in leveraged times when the funding is thin air, fake. We will see if the globalist fakes keep their profits and control .... this is why I often end with "tick tock".

I dealt with some of them managing a farm co-op up in this area. Extremist doesn't begin to describe them and Shea is very connected to them. You have every right to support Mr. Shea but I would suggest you drill a little deeper. As a legislator he will accomplish nothing. No one in Olympia wants to be in the same room with him.

Well, if you're quarrelling him-most of us do it at some point or another as do the patriarchs and the prophets. If you're quarrelling, it means you still believe. This is an idea in Phillip Yancey's book, "Disapointment with God". And I believe you mentioned that you had a frank conversation-or was it confession ? with a priest you know. When you feel better go see him or call him at some point now. He might be able to get you some church funds since he knows you. I would but my church is impoverished .

487 FEAR
is not having properly assessed your newly acknowledged foe.
Yet now knowing he means you immediate harm. Instead of waiting for the assault....
You turn fear into aggression and roar into his camp at night and slaughter him...for that you have to have a leader that understands the moment.
Read (Hopefully REAL history) plenty of good examples.
Posted by: Nightwatch no N-95 needed at March 09, 2020 01:14 AM (kFkpX)
Have to disagree. FEAR is a survival instinct. It tells you are in danger.
Now, what you do THEN, is up to you.
Real Heroes are NOT those who do not know fear, but those who KNOW fear, and do the right thing anyway.
I can show you an evaluation from the Captain of my Destroyer, from Desert Storm, that says I am the calmest person he has ever seen in stressful situations.
Yet, the times he is talking about I was scared shitless. I just knew that NOT being calm, was probably going to get me killed.
Fear, like ANGER, has gotten a bad rap in modern society. BOTH can be used for positive purposes.

Putin is right smack in the middle or recreating his entire Government.
Literally rewriting the Constitution.
Long term? breaking the bonds with OPEC gives Russia much more economic freedom.
Much like many of us in the US, I think HE believes the Middle East has too much influence, and no longer wants to be embroiled in their insanity.
Post Election, if Trump is elected? I could see Putin approaching the US for more economic cooperation.

Yep. Price gouging laws never have their intended effect. Let's assume you bought a crate of N95 masks in November. If you can sell them for $30 apiece you're going to keep only the barest minimum for yourself and sell the rest. OTOH, if you bought them for $1 and you can't sell them for more than $1.10, it's not worth the trouble to list them, and in any case the profit is small enough that it makes more sense to save the whole crate on the off chance you need more for yourself than you anticipated.

In seriousness, the American Thinker piece on propping Joe bees the questions, is Joe Biden not a poster child for what is the worst and most venal of our politicians? Dude is like a Yankee LBJ.

Over at Conservative Treehouse Daily Trump admin thread they have a devastating anti Joe Biden ad- from Citizen817 Time stamp 2:13 a.m. The still picture features a picture of the outside of the WH
and is from the twitter feed I think of someone named Matt Orfalea:

Perhaps feral in nature?

It's a job he is thinking of for Brother Tim-formerly Brother Cavil who is currently in the hospital but needs a steady job.

Good morning! The wife was supposed to spend 3 weeks in Palm Springs for the Indian Wells tennis tournament. She texted last night that they cancelled it for the Corona virus.
Shoulda known...it's Cali.

James Wood is probably gonna get dumped from Twitter again but I think he's a good man and smart
and can be funny but caustic has a picture of the very botoxed smiling Clinton and his comment is: "She's always got the over smile every alcoholic gets on the third drink."

I say, Let 'em stay on the virus infected cruise ship."

Coronovirus cases seem to be on the downswing in China. Looks like we are at about 44,000 currently active cases worldwide, according to Hopkins, most in China, South Korea, Iran and Italy. Of those active case not in China or South Korea, the most active areas appear to be Iran and Italy (plus Germany/France). In the U.S. we have 564 confirmed cases, of whom 8 people are recovered, 22 have died (mostly in the Seattle nursing home) and 534 are still sick.
And yet my crazed lefty sister spent the weekend texting her utter panic to me about this disease, because we are all going to die (probably on Super Thursday) and Fox News is lying all about it to our parents.

Today is going to be a very bad day in the markets and panic and hysteria this week could easily push us into a recession. This is insanity and being driven mostly by TDS. The hate on the left for Trump and his supporters is a thing of terror.

Stocks on sale! Get 'em while they're hot! So long as oil and interest rates don't push us into a deflationary spiral this could be a great time to scarf up some deals on stocks.

I misunderstood too. That job will not excite you if you have a current job.
But one of my friends ran for County Commissioner. He won, and is doing alright now. It pays well. And all you need is more friends than the other guy.

498 Fenelon the idea of a gofundme for a fellow moron in need is very worthwhile. I do hope that it can be set up by one of us savvy with social media and the way to access it and contribute explained. A little bit from many can go a long way.

Calm Mentor had a GoFundMe for a while.
Putting the link in the nic is an idea that could work, possibly.
A few bucks from a lot of folks goes a long way.
