Here was Sundown Joe today:

And David French and Bill Kristol rushed to praise him -- the pseudochristian Pharisee David French giving him the official Pseudochristian Pharisee stamp of approval for being a really good Christian.

Klobuchar is as left-wing as the rest of them, but presents as being less insane than the rest - she's well-positioned to be a compromise candidate.

199 I drove through a lot of Northern Virginia today, and I saw a total of three campaign signs. Little ones. Two said "Mike 2020m," and one said "Amy 2020." Tomorrow is our primary. I'm amazed that there aren't more out there.

200 Warren will be out of the race by tomorrow. That will leave Bloomberg to keep up advertising rates until he figures out who the best down ticket Dem candidates are and will drop out, leaving his billions available to buy up local and state elections.

Biden will end up not making it to the convention , either by having a stroke, or dropping out. The Dems will try to make the best of Bernie, who will end up negotiation with them for support by allowing whoever they want on the ticket as VP. I'm thinking someone female, young, and good looking, such as Gretchen Whitmer.

I remember seeing a similar discussion about the aged Soviet leaders in the Reagan era who died one after another. The system allows the regular joe to retire on a small pension, but the top brass have to keep driving to hold that power, forced on by the clique of hangers on who need him for their own power to hold until they find a base of their own.

It is the same for Biden. Those around him need him to hold onto power of a kind. They will run him to death to keep it going as long as possible. Power without humanity is a cruel master, but it is what Biden chose a long time ago.

The dumb/ignorant/complicit people who support these things are a threat, not an entity I have the least interest in "uniting" with. Technically disgraceful and sad, but in current reality darkly hilarious and indicative of the level of the collapsed civic culture, that a stupid, failed, corrupt, nasty, and now demented 4th-rate figure could be a major party candidate (well, he probably won't, but the idea).

Of course Obama was a ridiculously vapid nobody mouthing hilariously dumb platitudes (and lies, in terms of his intentions), in rhetoric suitable for a junior high school student body forum - and the country forever demeaned itself by voting for him. Biden's not a bit more absurd than that.

One of the first things Whitmer did after becoming Gov. of Michigan was propose (well, demand) a 42 cent tax on gasoline. In Michigan, land of Ford, Chevrolet, etc. It would have made Michigan the highest gas tax state in the US, higher than CA. Fortunately, we have a republican legislature that told her to fall off a cliff.

Now she has commercials in which she is driving around the pothole jungle that is the major freeways in the state and she is saying she has the fix. Bonds. State bonds. Gonna sell enough of those suckers to fix all the roads.

351 I remember seeing a similar discussion about the aged Soviet leaders in the Reagan era who died one after another. The system allows the regular joe to retire on a small pension, but the top brass have to keep driving to hold that power, forced on by the clique of hangers on who need him for their own power to hold until they find a base of their own.

The stakes are higher in an authoritarian system. If you get out, you lose power. Once you lose power, you can't protect yourself from all the people you stepped on during your rise. You can't retire, because retirement means imprisonment and execution.

That's the one thing that makes me uneasy about efforts to prosecute Hillary. I don't want politicians thinking they need to do whatever it takes to win because otherwise they'll go to jail. If you were the president, coming up on the end of your second term, and looking at being put into the slammer (for whatever reason, legit or not), you might feel you have nothing to lose by trying to stay in office.

This problem goes all the way back to Rome, where consuls couldn't be sued or prosecuted. Many of the problems they had toward the end were the result of desperation rather than a lust for power.

454 a bit OT - no one is paying attention to what's happening on the Syria-Turkish border, mainly because the MSM doesn't understand it and couldn't care less. But remember when Turkey moved troops in and wanted to carve itself a buffer zone? Well, Syria didn't like it and it took them a couple months, but the Syrian Govm't decided to take it back. And they bombed (or got the Russians to bomb) the Turkish troops and killed a bunch of them. And then the Turks moved in some Anti-air missiles and shot down two Syrian planes today.

And guess what, the US isn't involved at all because Trump got all of our people out of that particular little spot of hell, even though all of D.C. was butthurt about it.

I wish I had had more money to invest in them back in the day.

I tend to agree, but Black Swans have a way of appearing and then events take their course.

If, for example, the economy goes into melt down mode due to events (and manipulation) or whatever reason, the chief rationale for Trump to those ignorant of the political/cultural stakes goes out the window, and the "Democratic" nominee stands a fair chance of being elected what with the MSM totally in the tank, voter fraud, etc.
This is why many (myself included) are not so sanguine about a Bernie, which is not so much a reduction in the chance of Trump winning as it is an exponential increase in the harm in the off chance he loses.

Biden is basically a placeholder for a likely radical candidate who will not really drive the election choice (most really don't vote for or against the Veep).

So yes, barring unforseen disaster it's Trump's to lose and the real action is downticket. But the lack of restraint in the left today truly scares the crap out of me as to who might, in a predictable "accident" wind up in the Oval Office.

There's not one liberal bill that Biden vetoes but Bernie signs.

It's not like Biden is going to nominate "centrists" to the bench.

To me it's just who's the least likely to get elected. If one Democrat is 1% less likely to actually win the general election, that's who I want to win the nomination.

Of course Reagan picked Bush I because he needed to assuage the party with an insider.

Clinton picked Gore, an empty suit. This was more typical with the candidate choosing someone *just like them*, only less so.

TFG picked biden, I think because he was emulating jfk, who had picked a long time and powerful senator. Problem is that lbj at least had a brain, and biden is to lbj what cottage cheese is to an iphone.

"get tomorrow is the pneumonia shot. Called Prevnar 13. Anyone had that

one and if so any side effects. The literature is a bit sparse."

I don't know if mine was Prevnar 13, but the nurse said the

pneumonia shot caused less side effects than the flu shot. I had no

issues with either shot.

I
asked the pharmacist about it some weeks back. 1st in series vaccinates
against 13 strains (cannot recall biological or viral). Second against
about 20+ more. Recommended for at risk categories (over 65, compromise
immune systems, etc.), such as my MiL. All IIRC.

I'm in the age category but generally pretty healthy so when it was first recommended decided to skip. This was actually the first year I even got a flu shot. But, the shot is free and given at the pharmacy and with all this talk, figured I'd go for it. Really helps getting some feedback from the Horde.
Now I just have to decide whether to go before or after I go for my workout.

the degree of risk has the potential to change quickly.
We will see more community spread cases; maybe school closures, for instance.

Bigger impact on the elderly; may increase funding for Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services and more regulation of long-term care facilities.

Just because it helps us too doesn't make it bad advice.

The Dems are corrupt, and are using the lefts energy to keep corruptions going. The Left are fanatics but the Dems sanitize them for the public.

Stand alone and fight your battles yourself. Likely both the corrupt and leftists would find themselves able to stand and we can get an adult opposition party going from the wreckage.

728 okay here is my lost in cyberspace comment. Lets compare covid-19 to the H1N1 (swine flu variant)

From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

I do recall FNM hype about we are all going to die with the H1N1 virus but I don't recall hearing a single sentence along the lines of "people will die because the POTUS and FEDS screwed up in responding to this 11!"

I'm actually shocked that they say 60 million caught that virus. I had no idea it was so widespread.
