The old Hitler time travel gag I know is that when Israel invents time travel, Mossad keeps sending agents back in time trying to kill Hitler before he gains power. Each time they fail they go back earlier.
Basically Hitler grows up fending off these attacks since childhood, so he develops a deep fear and hatred of Jews. But the comic strip has a better twist Posted by: vmom 2020 v18 at February 27, 2020 10:26 PM (G546f) 116

"It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their selfish purposes. Distinctions in society will always exist under every just government. Equality of talents, of education, or of wealth cannot be produced by human institutions. In the full enjoyment of the gifts of Heaven and the fruits of superior industry, economy, and virtue, every man is equally entitled to protection by law; but when the laws undertake to add to these natural and just advantages artificial distinctions, to grant titles, gratuities, and exclusive privileges, to make the rich richer and the potent more powerful, the humble members of society--the farmers, mechanics, and laborers--who have neither the time nor the means of securing like favors to themselves, have a right to complain of the injustice of their Government."

I have a bit of an urgent prayer request. I know this isn't the normal channels. But as I say, urgent. My nephew was found dead. As nice a human as you could ever meet. Seriously. He was a youth pastor at a church for the last 15 years. The Facebook posts from his young congregants are heartbreaking. He was 42. Left behind 2 young daughters and wife.
My sister Is practically hysterical about this. As you would expect. The detective says they are investigating this as a homicide but, I just heard that he had been prescribed antidepressants that were "messing with his mind". It seems maybe "best case scenario" is that he didn't take his wife and girls with him when it all got to be too much and we should be thankful for that. But why it would be that terrible for him is a mystery. Thank you all for your prayers in advance. Posted by: Just Lily at February 27, 2020 10:42 PM (c87bD) 202

So the Coronavirus idiocy has jumped the shark on Laura Ingraham tonight - she's telling her audience to calm down - it might be "a crisis" but the US is handling it the best they can. Have faith.
"its a crisis." - this is INSANE - no one, I repeat, no one has died in the US. There are 60 known cases out of 352M people. It's been known to infect people since early December and literally, three months later more people have died from a hang nail - please make the hysteria staaaph! So you're a mind reader now? Here's a thought: Maybe Trump realizes he isn't an expert in virology or epidemiology and has delegated the decisions to the best experts we have. Maybe his intent is to follow their advice and back them to the hilt on their decisions, and in the meantime maybe leave the panic inducing talking out of one's ass to the The Press.

Repost from the Morning Report
How to deal with the corona virus: Especially since we have no trustworthy data from China, it is too early to draw any conclusions about the rate, severity, percentages, etc. That said, no one should panic, but do not blow this off as a big nothing burger, either. Everyone should be prepared. Even if this doesn't get out of control, there is always a chance that general public panic would mean short supply of food. Regardless of the likelihood, there is some chance that you could be quarantined at home for an extended period. You should always have enough food on hand to go a week or two in case of some unforeseen event. For this potential event, you could need enough food and basic supplies for your household for at least 30 days. If you can't manage that, do what you can. Stick to non-perishables. Don't get foods that you wouldn't normally eat. Get things that are easy to prepare in case you get sick. Practice personal responsibility and be as prepared as possible and reasonable. When you are prepared, you will never have a reason to panic. This has been a public service announcement. We now return you to your regularly scheduled silliness. He took a picture of the note by an unnamed student and posted it on Facebook. "One of my guys, a straight A+ guy, offers up his five bonus points to someone in need. Anyone. Until she showed me the end product and made me laugh, and laugh hard. It was a cheerful, brightly colored flipbook of the death of the galaxy, as the sun swells and swallows up the inner planets, including ours. She explained this in her usual ebullient manner. Then, she said her next one would be about what would happen if the outer planets were to vanish, and the Kuiper belt collapsed, pelting Earth to pieces with giant space rocks. Had never noticed it - but he's side by side with his wife, both were WWII vets (and until they died lived a few houses from where I live now). Every time I visit that place I learn something. Last time it was the fascinating name plates/probable stories of a few Japanese-surnamed guys with WWII service dates. One was 442 RCT (had "Go For Broke" on the name plate), other two were WWII years, NCOs in the Army, nothing more. Likely intel or interpreters. Ah, the mini-moon. It's orbit isn't stable and it will drop out after a few years. There've been several of these over the years. You might be interested in "quasi-satellite" and "horseshoe orbits" (tadpole orbits, too). Earth has several of these, asteroids in these orbital configuration. A quasi-satellite appears to be circling the planet, but is not really. It is not gravitationally bound, just has a 1:1 resonance with the larger body. Horseshoe orbits are variations on that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quasi-satellite https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horseshoe_orbit Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion of a Poperin Pear at February 28, 2020 01:45 AM (rCwaK) 512

He's not allowed to drive until he's off the pain meds, which will be a few more weeks, I guess. Please tell him he needs to do his PT 3 times daily.

Thanks, Debby - I'm sure it will be a center of happiness! I want a walkin shower in the master bath, so the toilet will be moved over. And I don't want a whirlpool bath, so I'm still mulling over that. There will be a long double vanity instead of separate ones. Publius doesn't like the closet door in the bathroom, so that may have to be altered as well. The second bedroom will be his man cave/computer room, and he wants to open the office from that side as well. Personally, I think that he should surrender the master closet to me, and he can have the "office" and the closet in the second bedroom for himself.
Cooth recommended having deeper counters in the kitchen (an extra 3 1/2") and that sounds good to me. Probably granite. The contractor likes to do custom cabinetry, which sounds perfect. I want a 36" lazy susan like the one Publius' father did in their kitchen. Also a full-length pullout next to the fridge, for my spices and oils and stuff. No dining at the island, though, and I'm still thinking about how I want that to look. One level and big. Maybe 3' x 6' with storage drawers.

We still have one tub in the house for resale value, but health considerations make the big shower much more practical for daily living.

Grilling porch!
Good that the Important Stuff has not been neglected. Posted by: Miklos, who likes his grill at February 28, 2020 02:22 AM (QzkSJ) Oh hell no! Lately I'm thinking about extending a deck off from that grilling porch. I need a place for sunbathing where the fire ants won't get me.

DDS - I read somewhere's that the average whirlpool tub is used 15 times or less in it's entire life. We have one also, only used it 2-3 times in the 10 years we've been here.
I'm fixing to also do a complete master bath redo soon - this time, we will have a walk in shower - sounds similar to yours. Posted by: Tonypete at February 28, 2020 02:29 AM (Y4EXg) 525
By the way, and totally off topic, but when Obamacare was voted in, and then we could find out what was contained in the bill, was there much mention of totally outsourcing all manufacturing of all antibiotics and other potentially life-saving drugs?

Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at February 28, 2020 02:25 AM (a4EWo) Yep, exactly. I figure the opening to the shower should be wide enough for a walker or wheelchair, and have a single panel about half the length. A heat lamp to compensate for the lack of an enclosure. Ease of cleaning is important, too. I want it to look nice, but don't want to waste money on fancy designer stuff.

If you want to see the course of the coronavirus that you should expect in the future, go to:
gisanddata .maps .arcgis .com /apps /opsdashboard /index.html#/ bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6 (John Hopkins coronavirus global cases) Look at the graph at the bottom right. Click on the circle next to "Mainland China" to remove the graph of their cases, which appear to be comforting lies. And click on the circle next to "Total Recovered" to remove that graph, in order to see just the graph of coronavirus cases outside China. That exponential curve is what you should expect for the future, since that's what the disease has actually done in reality. One should ignore the last data point; it's not a complete count of cases for that day. Posted by: Not That Guy Again Would You Shut Up at February 28, 2020 02:36 AM (x3kgw) 529

We'll need handicapped access also for the shower since Mrs. TP's mobility can be iffy.
And people seem to want big, walk in showers these days. We won't stay here too long - we are reasonably certain we are heading south to be closer to two of the kids. Honestly, we will probably bring out two granddaughters that are here with us. Posted by: Tonypete at February 28, 2020 02:47 AM (Y4EXg) 533
I like the idea of a bench, and a shelf for shampoo and stuff. I'll discuss that with the contractor. I loved the shower at the swanky place I vacationed in at OBX, which is where I got a lot of my ideas.
And I'd like a full mirror behind the vanity instead of a medicine cabinet. Between the two of us, we have a lot of medicine/toiletry items. I guess we'll need a custom storage cupboard for all of that, in the area where the shower is on the current plan. Linen cupboards aren't an ideal storage place. They're too deep.

Unless they stumble on an effective treatment we're going to be dealing with this for awhile. Posted by: Ace's li Also, the virus never leaves the recovered. Some have been getting "reinfected" after recovering like herpes having flare ups or chickenpox turning into shingles. this goes back to the orignal studies out of germany, they said people were "recovered" after the first round of symptoms, but the viral load never ever left, it still showed up in poo.. no one has been found to have actual clear viral loads after they recover in ANY study. So if you catch it there is a chance you may have to remain on antivirals until a vaccine is discovered, mass produced, and distributed. You would also have to be isolated to keep from infecting others who don't have it. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/ 10.1056/NEJMc2001468 Dow futures are between -350 and -450 right now. Interesting little bits of info trickling out of the story of the 21 year old convicted sex offender who was attending Baltimore County schools.
The County has an elected Board, which is expected to have oversight on the policies and operation of the County School administration . It would seem that the powers to be will not tell the Board 1. How many students enrolled in county schools are required to wear ankle bracelets 2. How many convicted sex offenders were granted written permission to attend Baltimore county Schools. Amongst a host of other little issues and problems within the school system. Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at February 28, 2020 06:20 AM (tT0V4) 627

School boards are specializing to get money and spend for more stuff. The pros in the schools do their best to keep everything quiet. This is not just in the urban areas, where this is worst, but even in rural areas. Lots of example. Look at DC schools where everyone is college bound, even if you missed 5 months of schools. Even in Montgomery County, the two irreconcilable goals are promote everyone regardless of standards and success on standardized testing. good morning glorious warriors of the horde ...
media is so dishonest against Trump ... even on important health issues. last two examples ... they claim Trump is downplaying the virus, and after stating the need for testing, conclude with "Trump SUGGESTS they don't need to ramp up test kit production". I listened to his conference ... I think the opposite, they are prepping to do more testing. But the MSM don't have a quote, they just claim "Trump Suggests" ... meaning that is their spin on what he actually said (as he tried to calm any panic). The other story, different propagandist, leads with "privately Trump is said to be very frustrated with the efforts ... but publicly he said ..." the opposite, basically. So they call him a liar from the start, because they state as fact the premise "privately he is said to ...". That frames his whole actual statement as a lie. This happens all day every day. And of course any recognition that people coming from China are more likely to have the virus is RACISM, there is No Evidence on which to base such PREJUDICE. Except for all the evidence ... but after a few weeks they will get their diversity of victims they want, I suppose. Posted by: illiniwek at February 28, 2020 07:08 AM (Cus5s) 669
A friend who is a Viet vet and former military intelligence officer is fairly convinced that coronavirus was set up by the Chinese.
He claims that Trump has driven them to distraction and this is revenge. He says they couldn't care less how many of their own people die (he has dealt with Chinese), or what havoc it causes the world, and that they thinks this has a chance of bringing him down in the election. I don't scare easily, and the Coronavirus is another swine flu, ebola, or any other media generated panic. It is very serious, but can be controlled and treated. However, I was getting paper products at the dollar store last night, went down the dollar aisle and they had three packs of hand sanitizer, real small pocket size bottles for a buck. Got a couple. Sanitation, and it doesn't have to be obsessive, is the first line in disease prevention.

522 We have a whirlpool tub in the master bathroom, it seldom gets used. One of my big projects this year will be a complete remodel of the master bath. I have met a contractor who is decent, kind and honest. The tub is getting ripped out and I am putting in a very large walk/wheel in shower for hubby and myself. We still have one tub in the house for resale value, but health considerations make the big shower much more practical for daily living.

Ha! Wikipedia tells me that the seven Jacuzzi brothers got their start making aircraft propellers.

This is a new strain of coronavirus, not an entirely new virus. Coronaviruses have been around forever. They're one of several that cause what we call "the common cold". Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at February 28, 2020 07:32 AM (lbYzk) 706
it may not be a bio-weapon from that lab, could just be part of their research inventory, that escaped by accident. Last I heard they said it did not have the "markers" (?) of being an engineered bio-weapon, but that could be a lie/cover as well, who knows. But they haven't let outside scientists into the hottest zone, is what I heard (Bannon said that iirc).
China is pushing very hard to control the narrative, any suggestion they are less than helpful and honest is RACISM, and they push that messaging into the parts of the media they control/influence ... which seems to be a lot. Posted by: illiniwek at February 28, 2020 07:33 AM (Cus5s) 707
took that as an open rebuke to Rosenstein's sister, giving her own press release where she told people "be afraid, be very afraid, I'm worried, it's only a matter of when, not if". That was the narrative the MSM ran with all day ... why was she even giving a press release? Not her job ... and she had a completely different (FEAR) tone than the real CDC leaders.
Posted by: illiniwek at February 28, 2020 07:20 AM (Cus5s) A couple of weeks before a text screens shot between her and a kids dad was leaked on the boards where he asked how bad is it. She replied basically don't know but we have 1000 cases right now. Then the research began on her name and she was who she was. We aren't testing people like we should and the UN told Italy to shut down their testing and reporting of new numbers. At the end of the day it's more about not makiing China look bad, no racisms, keep people from panicking and still buying shit, and pray that it won't be bad because they believe the panic would be worse. I say put the real transparent information without any politics out there for poeple to have and make their own decisions. If you are low IQ, illiterate, and can't read research papers and data, then sorry. The markets were waiting for an excuse to tan here and globally, here look at historical charts fo REPO payments and the Baltic Dry Index and compare them to market trends. Corona is not the apocalypse people, yes likely created by the Chinese but they are just testing a vector and it got loose/was released and they are now seeing a real time spread pattern.

In infrastructure news if you want a real picture of vulnerability - a 96 inch water line in Houston broke yesterday closing businesses and schools across the majority of the nation's 4th largest city. They are under a boil water notice now.

Stupid hysteria. It's even at DoD.
Just got ordered to pull people off a project if they recently traveled through Italy, and I'm required to get them out of country back to CONUS for a 14 day incubation period. Honestly. Posted by: WitchDoktor, turns out lots of people give a damn! at February 28, 2020 07:43 AM (jmyvs) 720
For the MSM corona virus is like school shootings by suburban white kids and common flu is inner-city violence by racial minorities.

There are papers I posted weeks ago of China engineering SARS in labs since 2003. This is Bat-SARS that literally cannot occur naturally in nature with the human to human transmission so quickly. They fucked up. They created a monster, and that monster escaped.
The world, with our country leading, never should have allowed China access to Bio samples and to build leve 4 research and development lab. People who ever sold them or aided in them acquiring any military technology, especially pathogen samples and lab equipment should have been tried for treason and faced the squad. But muh free markets, free trade, and open borders crowd fucked us again. Posted by: Ahwoo Flu at February 28, 2020 07:43 AM (P0nip) 723

There is no way this should hurt Trump, unless Trump hurts himself by doing or saying stupid shit. All he has to do is put the interests of America and Americans first and he will be fine if not come out better for it.

Trump could consider a presser, where he tells the American people that in order to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, we will be closing both our northern and southern borders. With the exception of selected entry points, staffed by medical professionals.
