Meet The PetMorons

Hello! This is Peanut. He's my sisters dog and my sister is the one who introduced me to AoS. I'm thankful everyday she did so. Peanut is a very sweet and loving dog and he just makes everyone smile. Thanks for the pet thread, like P it just makes the world a better place. - Jennifer

Hi, long time lurker and lover of the pet thread. My wife and I adopted two kittens last year from a shelter that quickly became the center of our family. This fellow is Bean, AKA The Joe Biden of Cats. He’s most fond of ambushing strangers and grooming their hair. Here he is again with his sister Bella, whose fondness for you strongly correlates with the amount of food you currently have. - John & Sam

Brave folks adopting 2 kittens at one time. From the photo it looks like it has gone well. Thanks for being long time lurkers and coming out of the shadows to share this story. Awesome.

This is Opie the Opposum. Greta and Gracie found him out side and brought him to us. He’s quite the partier. And likes to snowball fight with the Nieghbor kids - Big Alfredo

I have never commented at the HQ, but have enjoyed the blog over the last several years and always love the pet thread.
While this pretty lady, Miss Grace, isn’t our pet, she is one of my favorite donkeys from the rescue my son and I volunteer at. She loves being rubbed and scratched and is willing to snuggle with you all day. She is good at standing between you and the muck barrel or even on the muck rake so you have to give her some loving.
If you don’t mind, I may send more pics of our other favorites.

5 Hello from Lydia and Oscar, who are solar-powered and are recharging in a sunbeam right now. Their batteries will be topped off right around 11:30pm, just in time for tearing around the house banging into things at warp five.

22 Have to laugh at Peanut and will show my resident kidlet that see, some variations of 'floofy' dogs look like real dogs. Friend of same kidlet will be getting a Bernese Mountain/Poodle cross soon. Apparently, if the puppy shows the Bernese tricolor, the buyers have to pay more (like $3500 more). Heavens-to-Betsy and Good Grief.

Taking two of my elderly crew (Old Dog and Old Cat) to vet Tuesday for blood tests to check their medications. The poor tech almost lost it giggling when I started talking about bringing in the trays of vitamins, supplements, and medications for the three oldsters. Well, don't we do the same for our senior relatives . . .

23 I actually don't think it is brave to adopt two kittens at once. I think it is a good idea. Occasionally, a kitten adopted alone will mistake people for other cats and will become a 'solitary attack cat'. Learned this from a pet show on the radio.

I have known people who have had a 'solitary attack cat'. Have had some mostly-feral cats that kind of acted that way, too.

First thing on this morning's news was that some creep stole a blind man's dog from his yard yesterday. Purebred German Shepherd (good looking dog) put in fenced yard to do business while owner was preparing dinner. ABC7 (Chicago) early this morning, so don't know if anything has developed.

46 Yay, Pet Thread! Love to see all the Pet Morons.

For the record, we had two "pet" possums at one time early in our marriage. I had never seen such things and they survived a farm dog doing its job. Kept them for a few weeks, then set them free. They were quite interesting. Favorite foods were dog food and bananas.

And they have as many teeth as a shark. Not at all cuddly critters.

47 olddog, i haven't seen it in ages. My late cat Max was like yours. Always hungry. He was a rescue, and I think he spent a lot of time hungry before we got him at about 2 yrs old. He lived to be 15

One of my cats, Kangie, lives with us because she was being "given away" by a couple with a new baby. I never found out exactly if they had had a bad experience or just didn't want to take a chance. Kangie's a beauty but she's a bit of a nipper and based on her not being able to get along very well with our other resident cats I think she would not have been a such a good "big sister" to the baby. Wish I had a better story for you.

My cats were/are just fine with babies. Let the cat explore the baby car seat and all the parephenalia as well as the baby. Family here joked about cat being a better protector than the big dogs. Don't shoo the cat away, let it skooch around and purr and you'll have a great friend to the baby.

Not a cat, but doggeh. When wife was expecting with our first we carried around teddy bear in a sweatsuit like a baby. Would talk to the bear and put in the baby carrier. We only had one episode where dog pushed it off the bed. Otherwise, I think it helped doggeh get acclimated to the newborn coming home.

72 I had a terrible time with woodpeckers punching holes in my siding. The stupid birds would even go at my neighbors vinyl siding. My lot is over an acre and about half woods. You would think there would be plenty of trees. I gave up all my bird feeders and had the corner boards replaced and painted and haven't had any since.

82 We had quite the hunter that stalked the resident birds and rabbits and squirrels - neighbor's cat. She was amazing to watch. Somewhat sad to see her take something down, but still an amazing little hunter.

Cat i mentioned above would climb onto the roof of her house by jumping from the deck rail to the gutter. She'd sit at the peak of the roof (a two story old victorian) and watch the yard. She was a hoot.

96 Cat#1 is still good hunter, despite getting up there in age. Mostly mice and moles now.

Best hunting story was when he got tired of getting dive-bombed by mockingbird. He did recon and found the bird's nest. Climbed the tree and took out the nest. When mockingbird retaliated, he snared it with a right hook claws out. It was an awesome spectacle.

98 Once had an interesting bird/cat encounter. Our house had a sloped roof and windows that were about 20 feet up. From the outside it almost appeared as a second story. One day I heard an energetic tapping, and came in to see a male cardinal tapping at his reflection in the window.

The cat had also heard the tapping, and had made the leap from floor, to counter, to top of the refrigerator. He was trying to figure out how to make the next leap to the sill of the window when I walked in. I waved my arms, scared off the bird, and grabbed the cat. Thus ended the Cardinal Adventure. As far as I know, the cat never made the same leap sequence again.

106 We had a bird building a nest under an awning over one of the south-side windows. Cat would 'talk' to it and watch closely from inside, all day long. He kept watch until the babies left the nest. It was fun to watch him try to interact. Bird was never frightened away.

yeah, last minute got really busy last night, and before I knew it, my 1am checkout became a 4 am check out. Which meant 6am bed. I just can't bounce back on 3 hours sleep like I did when I was only 28 and a half.

still, I hang my head in shame. I've gotta do better. You folks are having too much fun to miss!

Any chance of moving the 10am to 11am? That would help a lot.

118 Cat#1 rarely talks. He used to never talk until Cat#2 started talking after we were gone for wife's illness for 6-9 months. Cat#2 is quite vocal and more sociable now.

It showed side by side the same stalking and pouncing behaviors.It was kind of scary in a way to think that your adorable house cat is not that evolutionary far from its wild relatives.

134 55 -- Yes, I have had that delightful experience. Cat won the first round, but ended up at the vet the next morning to be declawed. When she got back home, it took her about 20 seconds to realize she could no longer slice, dice, and julienne, so she began biting. She could also rabbit kick since she still had her back claws. All four of my kids were more afraid of five pounds of declawed fluff for fourteen years than they were of me. (Oddly enough, all four kids have one or more cats.)

OTOH, in my experience, most cats will readily accept the new miniature human being with little to no fuss. Just bring the baby home and go about your business. Cat will be curious but adjust. Also, there is absolutely no truth to the old wives take that cats smother babies. Cat is simply drawn to the smell of milk or a new place to sleep.

It's a complicated mess, but they're switching the NV results from raw vote to delegates. Bernie has 55%, a clear majority. (this is due to throwing out unviable candidates and taking their second choices).

Bernie may well get a majority of delegates to the convention on first ballot, if the DNC doesn't pull any shenanigans.
