How far would you go to save your favorite water bottle? As reusable bottles become ubiquitous, more people are feeling "water bottle attachment syndrome" Leaving the house without my water bottle is like forgetting my keys or wallet. I'll always make a fuss to go back for it, even though I live in a dense city in which water is not exactly difficult to obtain. Still, I have an irrational fear of the water bottle going missing, resulting in suddenly being thirsty and unable to access water. For the record, I did not start using a reusable water bottle until I moved to the Bay Area in 2013. The state was in the middle of a drought then, and it seemed like the sustainable thing to do. But seven years later, carrying a water bottle with me everywhere I go has turned into something more than a means to avoid plastic water bottles, conserve water, and stay hydrated. It's become a form of security, one that I've become strangely attached to.

A 36-year-old Ohio woman who called 911 to complain that her parents had shut off her cellphone service is facing a felony charge, records show. Seloni Khetarpal was arrested Thursday for disrupting public services after twice dialing the police emergency line and asking for cops to be dispatched to her family’s spacious Canton residence, which abuts the 18th hole at the Glenmoor Country Club. According to a criminal complaint, Khetarpal called 911 demanding that cops come to her home since her parents had disconnected her cell service. An operator advised Khetarpal, seen at right, to “only call for police assistance for legitimate purposes.” Despite the warning, a "belligerent" Khetarpal called 911 two hours later to again report her cell phone woes (which she thought should be of concern to law enforcement). Khetarpal was subsequently arrested and booked into the Stark County jail, from which she was released on $2500 bond. Khetarpal, who is a licensed real estate salesperson, is scheduled for a February 27 preliminary hearing in Massillon Municipal Court.
A doctor in Lincoln, Nebraska, is hoping to spread kindness in his community by covering all of his patients' co-pays on Random Acts of Kindness Day. s patients came into the Urgent Care Clinic of Lincoln, they were given a special kindness card and told by Dr. Don Rice that he was going to be paying their co-pays for the visit. "I think that we have a culture that sometimes forgets that we can have a much better world if we start being kinder to each other,” said Dr. Rice. The clinic saw nearly 80 patients on Monday and Dr. Rice estimates he took care of $4,000 worth of co-pays.

I believe it was Hunter Thompson who said the best entertainers and politicians are the ones who get turned-on by the crowd, and use the crowd's energy to amp-up their performance/speech. In my engineering mind, Thompson's describing a positive feedback loop. Trump, Obama, and Bill Clinton are good examples of that sort of politician/crowd energy feedback loop.

I would hope that we don't go down that road. Just had cataract surgery on both eyes. About $5800 per eye, but it was worth every penny. I don't want a doctor who half asses a surgery or procedure because he's not getting paid a fair price for their services.

Yep, just last year my dad had to wait two months to get the same surgery Bernie had right after he had his heart attack (my dad hadn't had a heart attack but my mom told me that he wasn't far away from a widowmaker) and my mom waited 6 months for cateract surgery.

When I was young I was so repulsed by the taste off egg white that the only kind I could stand was soft boiled so soft that it grossed my mom out to make them. So she tapered off trying to get me to eat them.
Now my taste buds have faded and can have an egg with no issue.

It was about advertising, and the sequence I saw had two companies, competing to come up with an ad campaign for a new sanitary pad with holes in it. The first company was what you would expect, dudes sitting around wondering how the hell to market this strange new thing. The second company was the market leaders, and their main creative guy said something like "I already have the campaign. We'll have a bunch of women jumping around doing incredibly active things, to the music of Air Supply, and at the end, the announcer will say (pad brand)...your own personal Air Supply."
I could swear that the guy saying this was the cheekbone-intensive dude who was The Scarecrow in a Batman movie, and the mark in Inception, but I can't find anything in his IMDB that resembles it. Maybe he just looked like that guy, but how many people look like that? Anyway, I'm perplexed. Can anyone help solve this?

So, I like to have a ribeye, which I fry enough to get a good, almost crispy browning on the outside, but still fairly red on the inside. Then I leave the grease in the pan for tomorrow morning's scrambled eggs. That grease is the reason for choosing a ribeye.

I cannot stand any browning on my eggs at all. I even gave up cooking over easy eggs. Too much work, flipping and all. For me, it's sunny side up or soft scrambled. I even like my boiled eggs runny, but that's really difficult to get right, cooked white and soft, runny yolks. So I settle for a dull orange boiled egg yolk, not the bright yellow yolks.

The advertising satire follows the New York firm of Cranston & Co. as they fight rival Hoffman & Partners. Cranston fires his creative director which puts a young copywriter with a literature degree on the front line, even though he doesn't want to be. The contest comes down to a schmaltzy campaign by Hoffman with music by Air Supply that uses the tagline "Vorcan: your own personal air supply." or a more down to earth campaign from Cranston of "The pad ain't bad!"

HUD (or whatever they are called now) needs to create a 24 hour radio station of all talk public information to be broadcast at all locations where homeless congregate, common areas in prisons, universities and public buildings (especially courts and welfare offices).
Teach these underprivileged US history, health, etc.
I am very sick, and in desperation looking for something to listen to i clicked on the first tab I came to. It was an NPR 24 hr. feed, (I have not listened to npr in many years)
On npr I heard about some rapper who died and what a tragedy it was because of his "tone" which was "as if he was bobbing for apples"

Moron Lurker Osprey showed me cellphone video he took of Air Force One on final approach to Sky Harbor. He took the video from the top deck of his parking structure at work. And we chatted at length with a young man at the bar. from Massachusetts, who is a Trump supporter.
Happy Birfday to me! And I drove all the way from AJ to Chandler, and back, in the 1960 Studebaker Lark, and it ran as sweet as the day it was made. Got it up to "about" 70 mph on the 60 freeway, but came back by way of surface roads, at about 45 mph, because I could. Windows down, elbow out, doggeh beside me on the front seat. Life is good.

To be fair, cataract surgery is one of the few where a wait is not necessarily a bad thing. I got mine done, did have a wait of about 5 months, but my cataracts were just incipient, and I could still drive and enjoy life normally while I waited.

I ate it off of clean a new, clean commercial grade paper plate, fresh outta the bag of 250 of it's twins.
Were I to have contemplated eating it off of the red & white checkered vinyl tablecloth, or off of the floor, then the "sanitation" would've mattered a great deal more.
That said, I'll save the Jeveli's info for the next time I'm in Bahhhstan.
I like what I like, but there's always room to like more.

My best guess: the "pistons" are probably permanent magnets, or have some remanent magnetism. Wouldn't take much. Each coil has a driver, a transistor or maybe a MOSFET, that switches on current to drive its piston down. Basic solenoid, right? And that driver is triggered by voltage generated by a piston moving UP in one of the other cylinders. That could explain why it's not self-starting, too.

Those pieces of shit are starting to pop up in harleys. Not from the factory, but aftermarket space savers for custom applications. I finished a custom build a few weeks ago, and the dude had some custom battery box made that didn't fit a normal battery, so he shows up with this battery that weight no more than a carton of cigarettes. A few people that were hanging at the shop thought it was some hollowed out display battery. This bike was a resto mod looking old board track racer, very unique build, and that battery sat low in the frame, and to get the battery out you had to remove the starter and the oil tank. Right as I was putting the battery in I made a comment that if this piece of shit craps out it's going to suck to change. Yeah, it lasted 2 days. The guy is taking the bike to some big show in baltimore last weekend, and the battery was toast. I did an emergency battery change and ended up putting an even smaller version of the battery in because thats all he could get fast, but it worked. The upside is he got a 1st place in the show, but it was a bastard to change, and I have to rework a new battery box for a normal battery, because that new fangled POS isn't worth the trouble.

What happened was he gave the dude who built the battery box the dimensions of the battery, and the chucklehead made the entire box the size of the battery so the battery didn't fit, and the customer had it custom painted with the bike BEFORE checking it for fit, so we had to roll with it. That was the only part on the entire bike I had no control over. So he brings this lithium thing in because it fits, but man it died fast.. It was only holding 4 volts and would not charge any higher.

My neighbor still has his tree up. The Mrs. died unexpectedly 2 days after Christmas, 2018. She used to keep the tree up 'til her birthday in early Feb. (Not a real tree, obviously.) He hasn't taken it down yet. Sad, but sweet.

Yuripzi Morgan, a talk show host here on WBAL was in Annapolis listening to the screeching about the life and death emergency of needing to shit multiple billions of dollars to fund the latest State education boondoggle.
And while watching thee clown show, she suddenly began receiving cell phone push alerts about a shooting in the city.
And kept getting more and more of them, to the point that she thought the system had began repeating itself.
It wasn't.
Six people shot in multiple locations.
In under 90 minutes.

Let's put it this way. The others were all out to get him, and they certainly went after him and landed a bunch of hits. On the other hand, he pretty much called Sanders a commie, had to defend the concept of capitalism, and made clear he was the only person of the six there who had ever started a business. Considering 3 of the candidates on stage are professional politicians (sorry, Pete, I don't count being a junior associate at McKinsey as being real private sector experience), 1 was in law academia before being elected, and the other served at 2 law firms before becoming a prosecutor and then being elected, he's right.
As for the others, Pete and Amy were competing for the "sensible moderate" title, except when they went after each other.
Pete is like Justin Trudeau but with the smug factor cranked up higher.

So they now have forced bussing, in order to take some of them to schools with a lower population of FRLP students.

VIA, here in south MS the local HS has free lunches (and breakfast) for everyone; during the summer, the free lunches continue for those dropping by.
Even parent meals are subsidized, but not totes free. Yet.

They are multipurpose. It's a way besides social media to get his word out, it's an affirmation, and Brad Parscale constantly touts the data gathering portion of the attendees.
For example, for the AZ rally they got 30k voters attending, including 26% that didn't vote in 2016, and 18% Dems attending.
The tickets may be free, but the data harvest happens.

Of course, they never addressed what the specific education goals this programs is supposed to address because it doesn't. It is purely a social justice maneuver to move lower income students into different schools. It doesn't say how much money the program will pull from education to pay for the busing. It supposed to be magically paid for by casino revenue. They had an emergency meeting the other day to discuss the busing of private school students. The district wants to do away with it. A bunch of parents were notified by the local private schools to contact the board because we pay the taxes for the services too. We just don't use the public school. They were able to show how much strain it would put on the schools if all of the private school students suddenly enrolled in public school, and miraculously, they decided to continue the service.
