Jerry Falwell, Jr.: Hey, I Heard From Some Dynamite Blogger That's Really Good at Shelving and Scootering That Romeny Is Positioning Himself to be the Democrat's Vice President

Hey wait, I said that!

I don't think that any Democrat would actually offer the slot to Romeny. The one candidate who might do it -- Michael Bloomberg -- cannot do it, because he is already viewed with deep suspicion as Racist Sexist Billionaire.

See, liberals have this delusion that Mitt Romney is a conservative Republican. So they wouldn't find a Romney veepship added "balance" to the ticket, but just strengthened Michael Bloomberg's own "Republican conservatism."

Obviously Bernie Sanders would never offer. Someone like the Fiercely Heterosexual Cory Booker might, but he dropped out last month.

The leftwingers would not offer the job to Romney, and the people posing as "centrists" can't offer them the job, as the left already thinks they're Too Conservative.

But...

Do I think Romney himself has scams and schemes along these lines?

I do in fact.

He's got The Hunger.

Once you get a taste for the idea that you are special and Great enough to be President -- and that you might even be the literally Prophesied One sent by God Himself to save the Constitution -- you can never get rid of The Hunger.

One of these days I will stop compulsively rewatching all 14 seasons of Always Sunny.

But today is not that day.

By the way, as long as people are in the mood for Mitt Romney speculations: He strikes me as most likely a Twankversatile.

Disagree with part of what you wrote. Palin undoubtedly helped McCain, and Pence helped Trump with the Evangelical vote.
Romney would be insane to be a VP candidate on the Dem ticket. Not only would he be drummed out of the GOP Senate caucus, and quite likely Utah's legislature would pass that recall bill right quick, but if he decided to just be an independent senator he'd be at the mercy of Chuck Schumer to give him committee seats, just like Sanders.

But Mitch will not let that happen. Romney can keep his conscience. I don't need it and neither does Trump.

If Biden, Warren, Sanders, or Bloomberg is the POTUS nominee, the odds are that the VP candidate may very well wind up being POTUS.

Listening to the radio campaign spots, it looks like Bloomberg will get the D nomination.

The only other ad is from Steyer, and he's licking All-Things-Obama; the (claimed) soaring rhetoric, the existential Need-for-Change, a black woman extolling The Dog-Eater-in-Chief's healthcare, climate plans ... healthy lunches (at this point Steyer has lost), ending with "I'm Tom Steyer ..."

The rest ... Buttgag may appeal to a big slice of San Francisco, but I suspect not; a lot of people in SF are waking up to, actually making a call so they don't smell or step in, The Failure that is Progressivism in SF, and they're getting tired of activism, particularly vocal activism.

Lieawatha: she failed her way up the academic ladder, and her policies sound only slightly more though-out than Pipi Longnagging's climate screeds. She is simply far too annoying and far too inexperienced to be considered.

Bernie represents the end of the Democrat Party; if he gets the nomination, he will lose and take a bunch of D's with him, some of them powerful ones. The D's might be competitive in 2032 or 2036, but I'm betting on a new party.

I will likely vote for Bernie in the primary, but certainly Trump in November.

This leaves Bloomberg. He's pushing his experience in NYC; he's "a doer", "created 500,000 jobs", "rebuilt after 9/11", "will get it done", "will build on Obamacare" (and this should cost him the election). One spot claimed he built a computer (or computer company) and sold it, but current spots omit this. Hmmmmm.

So Bloomberg & Romney? The archetypal New York/Park Avenue Limousine Liberal (the backwoods start on the other side of the Hudson, and end in LA) and the generic-vanilla-runner-up?

I fear that Trump will have a difficult race with these two clowns.

133 DR WTF, I meant of course San Diego (the city nickname's origin was sarcastic, which few seem to remember) - sounds like you're in SB?

My favorite Mexican place is long gone - Casablanca, lower State street.

Only place I've ever seen chorizo enchiladas. They were divine. Good friend had his wedding at the mission. Two other UCSB veterans and I at the reception ducked out half way .... to go eat at Casablanca.
Posted by: rhomboid at February 14, 2020 07:15 PM (El6T/)

Ah yes, I used to hit Casablanca about once a month or so. Looked like you'd get gastronomic ecstasy and botulism in the same visit. And I didn't care. One of the few Mex restaurants that seemed to rise above the ordinary.

Never did go to that Super-Rica place on Milpas that Julia Child raved about when she was alive. Never wanted to wait in the damned line.

My place was Esau's for breakfast on Saturday. Especially when it was the greasy spoon on State. Later on when they moved to the new digs, it kind of lost something. Food was still good, but it was too clean and surfy.

Yes, but ... Bernie. Bernie will Bern the D/Socialist house down. But watching the D's panic (hair-on-fire level) is fun.

"Want to make sure Republicans will stand in line for hours to vote for Trump? Put Romney on the Dem ticket."

Yes, Romney betrayed Trump. Betrayed. No other word.

But I don't hear a lot of outrage from The People / The Republicans in general, and I speculate that more than a few D's might turn out to vote, simply to vote for Romney The Moderate.

Romney on the ticket would be proof that /could be sold as "Bloomberg and the New D's really are Moderates / Centrists / Real Representatives of the American People".

This is a colon-load; Bloomie is an ethnic Newyorker, Manhattan/Park Ave. flavor, For B, nothing outside of NYC is important, except maybe the Catskills. Romney is a professional #2.
