Onesies-For-Men (?) Clothing Startup "RompHim" Goes Out of Business, Unbelievably Enough

Who would have thought that onesies for grown men wouldn't be a clothing Killer App?

romphim.jpg

Damn. That salmon rompsuit was too expensive at $150, but at $50...? Enticing!!!

In related news, we're only five years from the Chinese invading America and winning within a week.

And I think most of us will say, "That's fair."

Risking in the doing, the mirthful guffaws and howls of laughter from the local wildlife.

186 I've worn a full leather heated suit that WWII bomber pilots used to keep warm. The anti-onsie. Kind of separate, the jacket and pants were connected by straps with separate electrical hookups for each part. One note, when you hooked them up to the DC you quickly noticed there was a great convergence of resistance in the crotch-ular area which would stay about 25-50 degrees higher than everywhere else. A bit uncomfortable. Maybe mine had a short and I was close to zapping my balls off.

Me and another guy found the suits while cleaning up storage at a wind tunnel. In the early days, I guess some of the tunnel operators used the suits to keep warm outside the test section. We had to try them on, and hook them up to voltage. The tunnel then donated the suits to a museum.

The 'Union' label, I'm thinking.
Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc.,etc.

Nope, according to wiki:

A union suit is a type of one-piece long underwear. Created in Utica, New York, United States, it originated as women's wear during the 19th-century United States clothing reform efforts, as an alternative to constricting garments, and soon gained popularity among men as well. The first union suit was patented in 1868 as "emancipation union under flannel".[1] Traditionally made of red flannel with long arms and long legs, it buttoned up the front and had a button-up flap in the rear covering the buttocks (colloquially known as the "access hatch", "drop seat", "fireman's flap", "crap flap", and other names). Depending on the size, some union suits can have a dozen buttons on the front to be fastened through buttonholes from the neck down to the groin area.

When the entire Scandanavian world erupted in mockery and contempt, giving just over 300 likes and tens of THOUSANDS of dislikes to the ad on youtube they yanked it after a day.

Then they put out a press release about how it was this evil coordinated online right wing campaign that drove the opposition and they are not backing down.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at February 13, 2020 06:55 PM (KZzsI)

A tale of Connery's stupidity:

Connery was the first choice to play Gandalf in Jackson's Lord of the Rings. If you're old enough to remember the days before the movies were made, this shouldn't surprise you -- EVERYONE saw Connery in that part. When they sent him the script, he complained he couldn't understand it. Like, any of it. Not conceptually, not plot wise, not character wise. They begged him, going so far as to offer him a piece of the gross. No can do, he wouldn't go along, especially considering how long the shoot was going to be. So Ian McKellan got the part and Connery lost out on something like $300 million. He was so upset about it that he started taking EVERYTHING, just in case. One of those projects turned out to be The League of Extraordinary Gentleman, which flopped so hard and was so embarrassing that he said the hell with it and retired altogether.

So, no, Sean Connery is not the sharpest spear in the village.

He wanted to be Gandalf, but acknowledged by the time the movies were made he was much too old for the part. Also the only one of the cast to have met Tolkien. In the behind the scenes stuff you can see him speaking knowledgeably about the Maiar and their natures.

You can also see the story where he corrected Jackson on what a man sounds like when he's stabbed in the lungs, which is even cooler.

302 NGU, Turks have been bashing regime forces around pretty good in Idlib area, and two russki aircraft (one choppah, one Su-25) were shot down.

Meanwhile, a fairly comical scene unfolded in one village, where regime types not in uniform fired on and attempted to mess with some US vehicles, and one was kilt for his trouble. While the imbecilic locals threw rocks (like girls) at our vehicles. Then the Russians showed up to calm things down.

As I said yesterday, Syria has finally knocked Lebanon/1980s out of the top spot for the MidEast's most comically complicated CF.

The high-level bloodletting at the Washington Examiner continued this week with the dramatic ouster of its managing editor on Monday, days after the conservative magazine fired its breaking news editor for sharing a lewd video. His father's side of the family is from Ireland. But I've read he's very tight fisted with money.

Roald Dahl was in Japan for the filming of You Only Live Twice,
the new James Bond movie he had adapted - very loosely - from Ian
Fleming's novel. The shoot was based for a time around the city of
Kagoshima in the country's sweltering south, and at the end of the day
the cast and crew would relax with a cold beer on set. Sean Connery joined in with the drinking but, as Dahl quickly noticed, left the business of paying to other people.

"He was the only man making a million in the film and he never stood
anyone a round," Dahl later observed. "This was known. They all talked
about it. He is not an attractive personality."

363 It did need to be adapted, and the original comic material could only be an inspiration for any movie.

Yeah it needed a little less Alan Moore's vision. In the first story Invisible Man rapes girls in an orphanage while invisible, then beats an cop's head in with a rock and tries to join the villain (the invisibility process does cause mental instability per the HG Wells book). Then in the second story, Hyde rapes the invisible man otter-style and then cooks and eats him. The books are full of nasty, awful crap because Alan Moore is corrupt and awful, even if brilliant.

In a doc about the James Bond production co, maybe called Everything or Nothing, there was some chatter of Connery's "Scottish thing," that is, cheapness.

He was always angry and resentful that he wasn't being paid a lot more for the movies. He probably had a point, but his Never Again attitude seemed excessive -- just renegotiate.

I never got the Biden fear. I said that here a year ago. Not tooting my own horn, ok, a bit. But still, the guy is an empty suit. He might have been ok as a genial loser like Dukakis. But this guy never made sense to me.

Obama picked him because he knew his campaign was radical change and Biden might offer a bit of the old school boring loser Democrat gravitas.

But Obama mad fun of this guy the entire eight years. Biden didn't run in 2016 for a reason. Why people thought this guy was dangerous I do not know. He is dangerous but not the Repubs.

--------

Joe's sole selling point is his name recognition amongst the general public. How many people outside of NH and Iowa don't even know who ran in the NH primary, much less who won?

Most People don't know or care about elections, even the Presidential Elections until voting time. When they get asked about it in a poll, they do not want to look stupid or uninformed, so they pick the one of the one, two, maybe three names they recognize.

About half the people in the nation recognized Joe Biden back in 2015. More people remembered his name after he was touted in all the news as the Democrat

That is also the idea behind pushing relatively unknown Minnesotan Amy Klobuchar in next door Iowa. (Before her, Tim Pawlenty and Michelle Bachmann from MN).

Name Recognition. It also gave PDT an early boost too.

But name recognition cannot sabe a piss poor candidate.

398 In a doc about the James Bond production co, maybe
called Everything or Nothing, there was some chatter of Connery's
"Scottish thing," that is, cheapness.

He was always angry and resentful that he wasn't being paid a lot

attitude seemed excessive -- just renegotiate.

Posted by: ace at February 13, 2020 07:20 PM (PbpT7)

I've read about that too. "Typical tight fisted Scotsman". After
Goldfinger Connery also got very resentful of the Bond character and
being associated with the character. He wanted to be known as Sean
Connery actor not James Bond. And he hated if someone saw him and called
him James Bond. On the other hand, from what I've read Roger Moore
enjoyed being associated with the character including the one story that
was posted here at the time of his death about the boy in the airport.

For sure it helped Trump, no question there. And celebrity culture helped him too. Trump chose the exact right time as Billionaire celebrity culture peaked at that moment. You don't hear much from Mark Cuban these days.

Anyway. Trump knew how to harness a lot of anger over Clinton, Bush, and Obama. He let fly in ways no one has done before. He was also original and implemented a plan to win knew territory. The Dems never change to try to win new ground. They keep hoping for demographic and cultural change that will just hand them red states. It worked in Virginia but they still lost the presidency. They will never change their platform other than moving it further and further to the left.

Hell even "Obama didn't respect Biden. He mocked the guy if you watch their press conferences closely. Biden was the exact opposite of Cheney. Bush knew Cheney would not win him many seats but he planned on using him. Obama chose Biden to shore up his political prospects but had no plans on listening to the man.
