Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Claim: Gigantic "Mystery Skeleton" Washes Up on a Scottish BightI just want to use the word "bight" so it sets in my memory. A gigantic 'skeleton' was found washed up on a Scottish beach during Storm Ciara. And locals near Aberdeen have speculated that it could be the remains of the mythical Loch Ness Monster - despite the notorious body of water being roughly 120 miles away.Well finally someone's making some sense. You know, the edited-out face of the person standing behind the "find" suggests to me that this might not be completely credible. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Is the Resolution just passed in the Senate the same as the one passed in the House, or do they need to be reconciled?
I see the text of the Senate one orders the President to "remove United States Armed Forces from hostilities against the Islamic Republic of Iran or any part of its government or military, by not later than the date that is 30 days after the date of the enactment of this joint resolution unless explicitly authorized by a declaration of war or specific authorization for use of military force." But was that a bight? Or just a beach?

So I read this as meaning that if Trump wacks a Qods member in Syria or Yemen in a month, he really has committed an impeachable offense. Not that he would be convicted but I bet they could get these 8 Republicans to vote for conviction which would make it a lot closer than last time. Especially since Boneless Pork Rectum (R-Utah) would vote to convict even though he didn't vote for this resolution.

Nah Grump I don't think the useless Senate GOP types will have any interest in shampeachment, especially over a president whacking furrin' terrorists, whatever the dubious "war powers" arguments.
But it's a nice index of how stupid these GOP types (and apparently all Dems) are that in the 4th decade of an ongoing war, in which the US has almost never responded adequately, they want to signal that no action can be taken. Even as the enemy works full time to be able to menace our forces and of course pulls triggers non-stop against partners and our perceived interests. Well most of the humor is that NATO (excl. the US and, to a very limited extent, the UK) altogether could barely do anything of use or help for Turkey even if it wanted to.
The US is coordinating with Ankara - positive noises from Pompeo and special rep to Turkey to kibbitz. It's 3-rd degree removed non-nukyler combat, toe to toe with the Russkis. It's good that today's Syria finally came along and displaced mid-80s Lebanon as the most convoluted effed up civil/int'l war in modern times. That record stood for a shamefully long time, considering what the MidEast is capable of when they really put their minds to it. Posted by: rhomboid at February 12, 2020 04:02 PM (El6T/) 425

Sadly the NHL, while having the best team sport, is always poor (by ridiculous pro sports standards), and is always begging for pennies and debasing itself for $$$. Soon they'll expand the season to 100 games and the playoffs to even more rounds (wait - that's not possible, everybody alreadys makes the playoffs and they all go on forever).
The small-town Canadian/central European sociology and mindset save the sport in terms of attitude and effort, even as the physical size of the players has rendered the game on the 85'-wide rink often boring. Posted by: rhomboid at February 12, 2020 04:15 PM (El6T/) 503

Sometimes you read The Message translation and you get:
1-2 God! Look! Enemies past counting! Enemies sprouting like mushrooms, Mobs of them all around me, roaring their mockery: "Hah! No help for him from God!" 3-4 But you, God, shield me on all sides; You ground my feet, you lift my head high; With all my might I shout up to God, His answers thunder from the holy mountain. 5-6 I stretch myself out. I sleep. Then I'm up again-rested, tall and steady, Fearless before the enemy mobs Coming at me from all sides. 7 Up, God! My God, help me! Slap their faces, First this cheek, then the other, Your fist hard in their teeth! 8 Real help comes from God. Your blessing clothes your people! 534 A bight is also a section of rope doubled back on itself, like a hairpin turn. If the free ends cross it becomes. a loop. The shape of a bight of land mimics the shape of a bight of rope. Another name for a bowline hitch is "half-hitch on a bight". The More You Know Posted by: Muldoon at February 12, 2020 04:20 PM (m45I2) The loop formed for the Bowline must be an overhand loop, otherwise tough nuggies, no Bowline. The Sheet Bend knot is the same knot as the Bowline, but it is used to join together two lines having dissimilar diameters. You also can tie a Bowline on a Bight to create a non-slipping pair of loops for a person's legs to hoist them out of trouble. Bights upon bights. But I'm betting 500 Quatloos the city and county councils screw the pooch on this and tax it into oblivion. Posted by: Diogenes at February 12, 2020 04:21 PM (axyOa) ------------------ The access to Key Arena, specifically the lack of it from anywhere outside Seattle, is the reason that the city and county over 25 years ago did a detailed study on where to build new stadiums, and created and zoned "the stadium district". That is where CenturyLink (football) and T-Mobile Park (baseball) were built. The stadium district is the only geographic place that has access from north, south (I-5), east (I-90) and west (ferry boats). A local guy with private money tried to build a new basketball/hockey stadium there, but the Seattle city council shut him down, again and again. Instead, they chose to rebuild (essentially all new) the original Coliseum, aka Key Arena, far away, where traffic is shut down all afternoon and early evening. It takes nearly 2 hours to get from the eastside (Bellevue-Redmond) to a parking spot. Oh, and since the Sonics left 12 years ago, 90% of existing parking in the area is GONE, now mostly apartments and new offices. It is the classic city government of Seattle looking no farther than their own navels to make decisions for the entire area. And boy, are they arrogant about their decision. It is a classic socialist government clusterfook. And the hockey fans outside the immediate city will pay again and again. Posted by: LeftCoast Dawg at February 12, 2020 04:32 PM (sy5kK) 613

Bulletproof...so far @BulletproofFar Does anybody notice anything strange with Buttigieg's Afghanistan deployment pic? 1. No weapon! We are required to carry at least a sidearm in a WZ. 2. No name tag or branch tag on his uniform. 3. No company patch or even an American flag on either sleeve. Three strikes. Ace, have you seen that?
