A pet board game.

"This is a game created by my pastor's brother. He's kind of a quirky, intelligent guy. I've played this game, and it's a lot of fun for cat lovers and haters alike. I thought the Ace of Spades crowd might like it.
Thanks for your consideration! - AKA California Girl (not Caligirl).

My daughter saw me beating myself up over Salem and sent me this.
It actually helps and I hoe it can help anyone else who lost a pal

Emma Kitteh.jpg

Did I ever send you this? This is Emma. She's a little spitfire. Sweet and onry as heck.

She is Graylians big sister by about 5 minutes.

Sitting on my shoulder. She has learned how to climb up clothes without digging her claws into my skin.

That darn Cat! - Tim in Illinois

Amazing kitteh there Tim, be careful before she goes up onto the ceiling fan and causes mischief. Thanks.

Who wants to go for a R-I-D-E? So how much spelling do you do around those characters? Raising littermates can be tough. Tell us your ups and downs.

I want to say thank you for the times you have posted pictures of our bearded dragon, Newbie.
We picked him up at a local chain pet store almost 10 years old. He was dragging his right front arm, and they were going to discard him. We took him in anyway, and a few days later his right arm popped back into a socket. This Friday morning, he was awake but sleepy. When my son got home from college in the afternoon, he was unresponsive and his beard was jet black. My wife made the trip to the vet with him and his belly was full of a thick yellow fluid indicative of heart failure, kidney failure, and a possible tumor. We made the decision to put him down, rather than draw things out with painkillers. My wife held him one last time, and let him go. This is the first time since my son was in third grade (he’s 23 now) that we have not had a bearded dragon in the house, and it seems very strange. - Christopher.

Our condolences on your loss. What a shocking find. It doesn't matter how big or small an animal is when they pass there is a huge void. Newbie had beautiful colorings. Thanks for sharing.

tuxter.jpg

This is “Tuxedo”, who we call “Tuxter”, a pound rescue who is part chihuahua and part terrier. He’s about 10 now. Don’t leave a ribeye out to go get a drink. He will steal it. Other than that he’s a pretty good pup. He hates any phone notifications, and of course, thunder.

P.S. I’ve been reading ace.spades.mu since the beginning, but I’ve never commented. - Ken

Thank you for your long time support. Jump in and comment, we're not that bad. Rib eye steak? I think he's a normal dog. Thanks for sharing today.

Here are my beloved morons. That’s Domino in the middle (3 YO spoiled toy poodle), Mindy in the back and Mocha upfront. Underneath these critters is my new WHITE comforter. I now have to run the lint brush twice a day because the cats shed so bad. However l, it’s a pleasure because I SO love these beauties. Thanks for giving us a great Sat Pet Thread each week. Sure love the stories. Debbie

How dare you abuse those poor animals? I mean really Debbie. You're lucky we don't know where you are at otherwise we would rescue those pets. We are glad you shared with us today. Thanks.

14 It's time for the Pet Moron baseball fans to protest the limitations on pets at the Spring Training ballparks. Other than service dogs, dogs are allowed in only if the park in question has a special "Bark in the Park" promotion. No room for teh kittehs, apparently.

Anyway, for those interested, here's a guide to all the MLB Spring Training ballparks:

29 Good Saturday afternoon, horde!

Great pictures of all the dogs, and kittehs, and reptiles.

We took the bulldogs in to the vet this morning. They were so excited! But so bad once we got there! They do not sit still, and they want to get at the other dogs, and they want attention from the other people. And so competitive! We left embarrassed, having thought they were better trained than that.

Guess we need obedience training, and need to take them to the vet one at a time.

30 I was going to get here promptly, but Conor demanded a walk.
Scary part was I got a text from DaughterH and dropped the leash to answer it. When I looked up, there was no Conor in sight, found out I can move faster than I thought. When I found him, he was less than 100' from where we started, but just not in the direction I had assumed for his probable "flight". Breathed a big sigh of relief and came in (but only after some more walking).

Mt Frenchie Conor and I worked for a while with an excellent local trainer, and he immediately knew not to mess with her. I was convinced she had special powers because he behaved so well for her.
But she said that although she loves French Bulldogs, she doesn't have one herself because they are so independent and really hard to train.

44 Lena's a beauty and she knows it. Of all our German sheps over the decades she is the most affectionate.

Excellent huntress. She brings her master portions of rabbits she captures every so often. Once it was just a rabbit head with the ears missing...bleh.

She is also an excellent house sparrow killer. She flushes them out of shrubbery and grabs them with her teeth. Super quick for a 100 lb dog!

(I can see both things happening).

57 The "Coping With Guilt" article was very nice of someone to write up; very thoughtful.

Yes, it was very helpful to me-- two of the kittehs who have owned me down the years died suddenly; one died in my arms from what the vet thinks was a ruptured spleen, and the second died of cardiomyopathy that came on very rapidly. I blamed myself for months about whether I should have noticed symptoms earlier, even though the vet assured me that neither condition is treatable.

I have so much hair from my idiots. Now I have either leather or faux leather furniture. Everything else has dog sheets I can shake out and throw in the washer. And no carpet. I still get dog hair tumbleweeds they're easy to deal with.

65 Basement Cat--the kittehs are VERY good at hiding symptoms. My Tonkinese girl had lymphoma and had to be put down, and I only noticed because she seemed a bit depressed one morning and I took her right in. Vet said the mass was so big she couldn't take a deep breath, yet she had been running around two nights earlier. This was in 2011 but I felt guilty for awhile.

That's what the vet told me too. He thinks it is a kind of defense that cats adopted in the course of their evolution. They aren't apex predators and would benefit from not showing symptoms of illness around larger animals. Unfortunately it's hard on the humans who care about them.

73 We had the grands over the other week, and Lena laid patiently while a two year old covered her with about thirty beanie babies. They were on her, and all around her. She didn't move a muscle while this was going on. She didn't move a muscle until I told her she could get up...it was so hilarious.

She was so exhausted when the kids left. Between the two year old and a 3 month old, she had a lot of work to do keeping everyone safe. Either of the children made any sort of odd noise, she was right there to investigate.

Posted by: jayhawkone at February 15, 2020 04:33 PM (ZD+J8)

75 Jayhawkone, can you move her box somewhere else that is convenient both for her and you? Unfortunately once a cat has "missed" the box a few times they can convince themselves that it's fine to go there because they smell their own pee.

I larfed.

82 jayhawkone, you might try putting the puppy pee pads around the box. Probably not going to change the habit but it will save your floor and make cleanup easier.

83 Thanks for the litter box suggestions so far. I thought a "dirty" box might be the problem and started cleaning it after every use, but that hasn't helped. Corn and Beans may be right about smelling her new place to pee. I'll try moving the box again, although we have scrubbed the floors to try and disinfect the area. Cats' noses may be too good for disinfectant!

86 A question for cat Morons

Here's a checklist of sorts that might help you:

https://tinyurl.com/wub99wj

FWIW, my first cat began to pee outside the box after she had been to the vet for dental work under anesthesia. When I asked the vet why she was peeing on the carpet next to the box when she had never done that before, he said it probably began when she came home after dental surgery. She was woozy from the anesthesia and didn't quite make it into the box. Then she decided she liked the feel of the carpet under her bottom better than the litter, so kept peeing on the carpet. He suggested taking a large black garbage bag and placing it under the box. Cats hate the feel of plastic under their feet and will go into the box rather than doing their business on the plastic garbage bag. Whether his explanation about the start of the problem was correct or not, his suggestion about the bag solved the problem.

I hope things work out for you and your Persian.

90 When my cats started getting old and senile, I found that they were more likely to use the box if I cleaned it every day, and once a month, dumped the old litter, bleached and scrubbed the box, and refilled it with new litter.

I don't like to say it, but, at 16, it could very well be a sign of dementia. My kitty, Iolanthe started doing that at around the same age.

I don't feed birds but have friends who do. They bought one of those "Droll Yankee Flipper Squirrel-Proof Feeders" for their back yard. They say it works well in keeping the local tree rats from stealing the bird seed.

95 Thanks again for the links and suggestions for Princess, the Peeing Persian! I'm going to try them all: move the box, clean it out semi-daily, and put garbage bags around the box. I should buy stock in puppy pads, we have gone through several packages over the past few weeks. The cat pees on the pad, then scratches like she would litter to "cover" the pee! Very strange. Thank you all. We love the Pet Thread.

Red (Pine) Squirrels aren't deterred by squirrel proof feeders. Neither are whitetail deer. I won't even discuss black bears.

98 A larger box might also help.

I've always used jumbo-sized boxes for my cats even though none of them were or are large cats. They just seem to like having the extra space to move around in and dig. Casey in particular has his own version of "singing in the shower" when he's in the box; he isn't vocalizing but he's obviously having fun while he's "taking care of business."

That's why I don't think it's a good idea for me to have a bird feeder. Even with a "squirrel proof" feeder, it's still attracting the squirrels and other creatures.

103 Yes, good suggestion, for the larger litter box.
I've seen cats get all four paws in a too small one, which is fine, except for the necessary clean up afterward.

Posted by: navybrat, at large at February 15, 2020 05:02 PM (w7KSn)

104 Jayhawkone: I've found one thing that helps me keep my sanity with Boo is that I change the litter box itself every month or so. As in, throw the old one out.

Boo isn't that big, so I just use (usually) Sterlite brand dishpan from Walmart as a litter box, inside of a larger cardboard box. It costs 1.50; you spend more on litter, probably. That plus litter is less expensive than one of those disposable litter pans everyone seems to sell.

Posted by: Thing From Snowy Mountain yada yoda... at February 15, 2020 05:04 PM (dwojT)

105 Plastic kiddie swimming pool works great. Put the litterbox in the middle of it. Cats can't spell much.

Posted by: klaftern at February 15, 2020 05:06 PM (RuIsu)

106 When the peeing problem first started, we got a large shallow storage box in place of her regular box. That worked for a day or two, then she started peeing right outside the box again. I put her old box next to the new box (with puppy pads outside), thinking she wants to do her business in separate places, but that hasn't helped either. I'm tired of trying to think like an old cat! Dementia may be the best diagnosis. Thank you all!

Need prayers, please - my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer in August. Got a call from my dad today - mom's legs stopped working yesterday, and they admitted her to hospice today.

She is still alert; I am flying to North Carolina tomorrow to be with her and dad through the end of this journey.

126 Sweating like Michael Jackson at a kids birthday party. It's very muggy and hot so twas doing some tree pruning with the permit saw. Doggie was being a doggie around us in the garden and then we go.inside for.a.drink. Billie disappears an we have just being literally runny around like headless chooks calling for her. 20 minutes and she appears from the pine plantation. The wee tart gave us a he'll of a fright as she never goes away.

127 The Lena story reminded me of our first GSD, Doc. He would do the same thing when we had company and be pooped for a couple of days afterwards. Kids could do anything to him (we kept an eye on things; he was a 120 lb. shepherd). He was as good as a babysitter.
If anybody needs a kickass odor remover, try SCOE10X. Gets rid of odors like pee, poop, barf, cigarette smoke, skunk. It has tools so you can use it to get in to mattreses, cushions, carpet pad. Great stuff.

128 Pogo update for the Pet Thread. Last month, Pogo, my Bassett X Border Collie girl, somehow injured her back, and was in severe pain. X-rays showed disc degeneration in her lumbar region.

Well, she seems to be all better now. She is even ready and willing to jump up into the 4X4 Suburban, something she could not do at all while she was hurting. Seems to have all her mojo back, and she is off all meds, too. I am very relieved.
