While I'm sure Romney views himself as a staunch moral crusader (when in fact he's one of the least principled politicians in the country, see the quote from the first article above), the fact of the matter is that Constitutionally, his vote was meaningless. Vote convict, vote acquit, abstain...it doesn't matter. His vote wasn't the deciding vote in any way, shape or form. Save the Constitution, hanging by a thread? Please. Feed your ego, roaring through your head is more like it.

Freshest seafood I have ever had prepared for me, was in Homer, Alaska.
A boat literally unloaded some of their catch to the chef, who took it down the two-lane road to his little restaurant, maybe a few hundred yards away, and then his wife/girlfriend sat down at his computer to create the Fresh Fish of the Day list. He took the fish into the kitchen.
It was on my plate in less than an hour.
Even when I catch my own, I can't get it to the plate that quick.

The nice thing is that such sales taxes are not subject to the state rebate law on income tax. This year the rebate will be 17 % of last year's income tax liability.
The law limits how much income tax can increase year to year so it grew lots last year.

Yes. I have always hated that brand of elitism. Mrs. Mahon and I took a weekend trip to Nebraska a few months ago, and were enchanted. So what if you can't get a good slice of NY pizza, or that the go-restaurant is a no-name mom and pop diner.
We now have Nebraska on our list of possible places to retire. We saw some truly beautiful countryside.
You know what? I am glad that Our Betters (jerk-off motion) hate places like Nebraska, Kansas, Wyoming and the Wyoming part of Colorado. Fuck them. They've laid waste to far too many places I hold dear.

I took my family to AK for a 3-wk driving tour, & we LOVED the food- esp the seafood items you mention. My kids (10 yrs old then) went crazy for the fresh salmon.
The hotel chef in Anchorage showed my kids how to filet & cook the fish they caught.
I can't say too much about AK as a family vacation paradise, but... no cruise ship! Get off the boat & go look at the Brooks range; Katmai, etc.

I went to AK for a week with my mom and brother to visit my dad (he was working there and we met halfway in Anchorage).
I loved it. Alaska is astounding. If I were independently wealthy and wanted to GTFO to somewhere beautiful, I'd strongly consider moving to the fishing village of Seward.

A boat literally unloaded some of their catch to the chef, who took it down the two-lane road to his little restaurant, maybe a few hundred yards away, and then his wife/girlfriend sat down at his computer to create the Fresh Fish of the Day list. He took the fish into the kitchen.
It was on my plate in less than an hour.
Even when I catch my own, I can't get it to the plate that quick.

Rainbow Trout, directly from the hook, to one of the South Vietnamese Boat People our church group took backpacking in the High Sequoias. Ferguson Lake, 1975.
That South Vietnamese had the fished scaled, gutted, breaded and into the oil in the cast iron skillet sitting over a small campfire. About two to three minutes per fish.
He was cookin' 'em as fast as we could pull 'em out of the lake. Lunch was a dozen and a half fish for the ten of us.
We continued to catch more fish, the whole three days we were camped out up there. Nothing like using what snowbanks had survived in the shade, even in late July, as the "Fridge" for the accumulated fish.
I've yet to find a restaurant as good, and damn sure not one that could serve a fish as fresh.
But... But... Thanks to Eromero and his lovely bride, with whom we enjoyed a delightful dinner at Katie's Seafood Restaurant here in Galveston.
New place, directly next door to Katie's Seafood. That's where the fleet of fishing boats unloads their catch, which promptly gets iced down.
And some of which goes to their restaurant, next door.
Y'all gotta try 'em, if you're ever in Galveston.
And Eromero? I owes ya one, BIGLY. I'll trust there's a good steakhouse in your area?

Was goj by to try to get to Ketchikan this past summer to do some fishing and enjoy pleasant company. Free place to stay though in return I planned on taking care of getting us a guide boat at least one day and stocking up the weeks groceries.
And then, last Jan or Feb, one of the biggest coyotes I'd ever seen told his buddies "Hold my beer..."
Almost $500 in radiator and ac condenser later, no more trip.
One of these years I hope.

I was listening to Larry O'Connor today and got rather depressed at the comments from the much vaunted Andrew McCarthy. In my opinion, good old Andy McCarthy is still a true Blue Deep State operative at heart. I offer the following as a rather scary insight into straight shooter McCarthy's true thoughts on the rights of mere citizens!
My takeaway (not a verbatim transcript) was that Larry asked rather obvious questions about blatant violations of law in filing evidence against citizens (e.g. Carter Page) and the belief that the offending DoJ officials should be punished severely. McCarthy said well, this sort of thing happens all the time in trials when the prosecution team can be shown to have made an error in the accuracy/truth of the facts that the charges are based on. Then he said BUT neither the prosecuting attorney nor the investigators are EVER brought up on charges themselves for malfeasance. He then said that if prosecutors/investigators knew they were subject to prosecution for a bad investigation, they would always take the safe course and do nothing rather than risk their careers by taking a chance.
After I stopped screaming at the radio, I was so infuriated that I shot the radio and then had a Russian Imperial Stout and cigar on the back porch.
Maybe I am a just misguided irritable kulak, but I am not a fan of unfettered sovereign immunity, and I found McCarthy's comments rather disturbing as it sure seemed to me that he had no problem if the police investigators or the prosecuting attorney did not care enough to have "their own skin in the game" even though they had the ability to use the massive power and resources of the State against an "innocent until proven guilty" peasant!

I was at a hardware store once and there was some problem ringing up my order and the girl had to call her manager up to help. During the delay, we got to talking and it came up that I had graduated recently. She asked what I studied and so I told her "TV and radio broadcasting."
She said, "I could totally see that! You have a great radio voice!"
I didn't miss a beat and said, "Thank you! I have a face for it, too!"
She turned beet red and immediately said, "I didn't mean it that way!"
I was only able to hold about 5 seconds before bursting out laughing.

Okay, kids, here's the deal. Alaska is big, like really big, and covers lots of territory, time zones (except we picked just one, for convenience), and options abound.
Southeast is Seattle-north, without the lousy politics and needles in the street. Ketchikan is relatively big, Juneau is a political rathole.
Southcentral is, well, central, so it has lots of people (about 285,000 in Anchorage), is easy to get to, but also has lots of mountains, wilderness, ocean, etc. Mild climate, between about -10 at the worst to about 80 at the highest.
Western Alaska is barren and rugged, with plenty of wildlife, fishing, swampy tundra, and the like.
The Aleutians? Go read The 1,000 Mile War. No trees, lots of active volcanoes, windy, but lots of good fishing and crabbing. If you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes.
Central Alaska is both cold and hot, rather dry, lots of moose and bears, plenty of big rivers and pothole lakes. Lots of dog mushing, plenty of wide open spaces.
North Slope is majestic but cold as hell, no trees, all tundra, polar bears, musk ox, and in the summer the sun does not set. Not once.
Black flies are an issue in Central and North Slope, not so much in Southcentral. We mostly have mosquitoes, and those have declined over the years.
No snakes, anywhere. No big spiders, just nice polite little ones. No raccoons, no obnoxious loudmouth asshats, and only the occasional California lawyer. Anchorage is about 15 minutes from paradise in any direction.

Well they must be pretty good I would think. People were talking pretty low as if they sensed it could get loud in there, and there was no problem hearing low volume conversations. I would think it would be brutal to play music in there because it would reflect off of everything.

Don't ask me why, because I can't understand it myself, but I've been listening to Stryper nearly all day. I listened to their newest album, God Damn Evil, three times today.
THREE! FUCKING! TIMES!
It's ridiculously fun to listen to. They play with a few different styles, the album has good hooks and really excellent drumming and Michael Sweet can fuckin' *sing*. At 56 he sounds better than he did in his early 20s.

If you do this, plan to get here a day early, and the deplorable Morons of the Horde can certainly wash up, change clothes, and look moderately respectable to welcome you and hubby to some hospitality.

There is also a cruise up the Columbia River in the summers, too. It starts out of Portland. Definitely warmer than the Alaska cruises.

What took me out of the movie was Ewan MacGregor's villain character. An insecure male who doesn't deserve to be the alpha. This worked with Dorian in "The Mask" - because Dorian (the low-level lowlife) got the mask and became a supervillain, just when it looked like he was going to lose everything. Doesn't work with Ewan; Ewan is supposed to be a crime boss.
See it on redbox. Oh, and with closed-captions if, like me, you can't follow people with squirrel voices talking too fast.

In fact, recalling the story, it was under 20k miles. I don't remember what the tires cost, but I remember the number to be about the same I paid for a full set of tires for my Ford E-150 van.

I got 25,000 miles on the factory delivered tires on a 2004 Nissan Maxima SE with the V6.
Tires aren't what they used to be.
Had a set of Michelin XGT's on my 88 5.0 Mustang when I bought it, used.
The rears only lasted 3 months.

eh, in 1912 Oswald Spengler, in "Decline of the West", predicted all of it in quite exacting detail. His predictions of the course of 20th/21st century culture get more and more accurate as time goes by. We're about at the point where he predicts the Democracies to finally collapse, but then we'll experience a period of relative calm as we move into the Imperial stage. Empire always presides over the collapse of the civilization. And then, after 500 or 600 years, some new culture will arise and start putting the pieces back together again.
Luckily we won't be around to see all that - and we're very lucky that we're at a relative peak in civilization that doesn't come around very often, historically.

I went on the word of a local. Went to his house to meet his family, which was awesome, and they furnished it.
It was really not good. I gave it a 2nd shot and added the packet of sauce. It changed the flavor, but it's still not something I'm going to do again.
Now, if you're starving and someone hands you a Rits cracker, it'll be the best fucking cracker you've ever had, so there's that.

Same with any high-performance car set up with different size front and rear wheel/tire combos, *when* rolling on Uni-Directional tires.
Ya can't take 'em to the shop and have your tires "rotated" to even out wear, either.
The left-side tires can't be mounted on the right side of the car, and vice versa.
The body of the tire under the tread, was wound around the mold in a very specific pattern and matrix, so that tire would bend and flex in compliment to the car's suspension, down to the specific corner and rotation when moving forward.
Fast forward nearly 30 years.
Tire change on your Bugatti F-1? Yeah, the car has to be shipped back to Italy, where they do the tire change on specialized equipment. Last I heard, that price tag was approaching $30k, for the shipping and re-shoeing and return.
But ya want the REALLY expensive tires?
Try those thirteen ft. high donuts on the Open Pit Mine dump trucks.
Couple of those tires will buy a very, very nice house.

Thanks for asking. All in all it could be worse. Wife lost her job, was in the hospital for pancreatitis. Job fired her for missing time, the only time she was out was for our son or being in the hospital. I hope that company burns to the ground.
Some extended family shit had my wife vexed tonight which created some tough times but storms don't last.

I've only visited the great state of Alaska a couple of times, but I have heard this story over the years in Seattle again and again.
Some return, many stay.
In fact, my next door neighbors are on Kodiak Island right now, and I will be picking them up late tomorrow evening from the airport.

Washington would be slightly better politically, and Idaho is cold in winter, hot in summer, and far away.
My dream is that the D's nominate Bernie, and Trump takes Oregon (Trump lost Oregon by just ten points the last time). If Bernie is the nominee, I'm going to devote a lot of effort to electing Trump, just to see the heads of the Portland leftists explode, if Trump wins Oregon.

And that clam pie thing is real. I've had it at two of the oldest pizzerias (notice that 'e') in the City, Lombardi's and Arturo's. Prefer Arturo's. Lombardi's got prissy when we asked for lemons; Arturo's was like, sure, and gave us a big side of wedges. Customer satisfaction is always important with a good restaurant.

Here it was not too bad even in the new car. Skidded once getting on the on ramp to the expressway but corrected pretty easily.
It snowed hard for a fair bit, but the ground was too warm to make a real mess.

On those rare days when we have snow the management would issue a 'don't come in' call to non-essential workers. On one occasion when I came in before they issued that call they had me go a pick up essential workers (control room staff). The problem we have here is the county has no snow removal equipment. So they send out road grading equipment to plow the roads. All that does is turn a light snow into pack ice.

When Little VIA graduated Boot Camp we went to Great Lakes for the Pass in Review.
Did the Chicago style hot dog at a rather well known local Hot Dog eatery.
And we did the famous Chicago deep dish pizza at another well known restaurant.
I have no reason to believe that these were not excellent examples how these two famous foods are supposed to be.
Both left us with a sort of 'OK, that's what the fuss is about?' kinda feeling.
I could eat them agin.
I doubt if I would travel more than a mile in order to have either.
And could go through the rest of my life without having either one again, and not feel as if I am missing anything.

I remember back in the 80's there were record high levels causing massive erosion and loss of lakeside homes. I don't recall if that was due to global warming or global cooling.

And your point about high school debate teams is right. Conservatives like Ben we have had in abundance since National Review was founded in 1955. Liberals want to win power; conservatives want to win the debate.
Let's win them both, but if we have to lose one, let's lose the debate.
