Gallup: 59% of Americans Say They Are Better Off Than They Were Last Year (And Last Year Was Pretty Good Too).
This Is the Highest Level Ever Recorded for This Measure.

Before getting into that, the Department of Labor released January's jobs report.

Huge.

January adds a much stronger-than-expected 225,000 jobs, with a boost from warm weather

Nonfarm payrolls surged 225,000 for the month, well above Wall Street estimates for a 158,000 gain.

The unemployment rate ticked higher to 3.6%, but for the right reason as the labor force participation rate increased 0.2 percentage points to 63.4%, matching its highest level since June 2013.

Average hourly earnings rose 3.1% over a year ago to $28.44, ahead of estimates for 3% growth.

This twitter user highlights:

Best news in the jobs report = Labor Force Participation hits 63.4%, the highest of this recovery so far

That was just today's news.

The last week has brought news of the country's extremely positive feelings about the economy and their own lives.

Via Twitchy.

From the Gallup's report:

The current 59% of Americans who say they are better off financially than they were a year ago is essentially tied for the all-time high of 58% in January 1999. That was recorded during the dot-com boom, with conditions similar to the current state of the economy -- a stock market rocketing to then-record highs and unemployment at multidecade lows -- though GDP growth was higher at that time.

And it gets better: The percentage of Americans who expect to be doing better next year is at its highest point.. since the original Star Wars came out.

@byHeatherLong

Notable: 74% of Americans believe they will be better off in a year, the highest percent since 1977, according to a new @Gallup poll

Is there any other good news?

Well, just this: Americans' satisfaction with their own lives is at the highest level since, well, ever. Highest level ever recorded by Gallup.

personalsatisfaction

Note that in 2012, when Obama won an undeserved term against the loser Romney -- who almost seemed to be working for Obama himself -- Americans' satisfaction with their lives was a mere 78%.

And now? 90%.

Nine in 10 Americans are satisfied with the way things are going in their personal life, a new high in Gallup's four-decade trend. The latest figure bests the previous high of 88% recorded in 2003.

...

Gallup has asked a follow-up question since 2001 to measure the extent to which Americans are satisfied or dissatisfied with their personal life. The 65% of U.S. adults who are currently "very satisfied" marks a new high in the two-decade trend.

So here's the math:

On one hand, the economy is at levels never before seen; Americans say they're doing better than last year at the highest rate ever recorded; and furthermore they expect to do better next year at the highest rate since the Summer of Star Wars; and American's satisfaction with their lives is the highest level ever recorded.

But, on the other hand: Trump's TWEETS.

This is what they got. This is what all their hopes are riding on.

Sure you're making money, America is at peace for the first time in decades, and you think the economy is in great shape.

On the other hand: Trump's Tweets.

Easy call!

It sure is for Bill Kristol, who a friend calls a "Virtuoso of Wasting Rich Fools' Money:"

gohomeyouredrunk

It's nice that Bill Kristol has a billboard.

Say, isn't that his the first sentence he's written that's actually made it into print since another damned fool of a billionaire took his stupid failing magazine away from him?

Congratulations on finally having a, uh, physical publication again, Billyboy.

That is an interesting number. Almost like Romney could have taken advantage of a simmering dissatisfaction with the direction of the country and curbstomped Obama out of office.

90 ... Job clearly has many things in it that don't fit in well theologically, and most likely comes from one of the ancient civilizations in the Levant. (Sumer, or Ur of the Chaldees) But it's included because it's one of the best treatments of true Suffering every written, and it amazes me to think that it might be over 4,000 years old.
Posted by: Tom Servo

The evidence I've seen is that Job makes mention of Chaldaeans, a north-Arabian bunch who first made an impression not on Canaan [those guys' Arab problem was Midian] but on Babylonia. In fact that last dynasty the Babylonians got was a Chaldaean family, so Arab-proud that one of them even moved his throne back home to Tayma.

This was a major reason Babylon didn't resist too hard against Cyrus II. They figured they were trading an Arab despot for a Persian one. Also Cyrus had already made a name for himself not being as much of an asshole as the Near East usually gets.

1. One thing that pisses me off about Romney, is that in the past I defended HIM against false attacks at a personal cost of friendships, etc.. His conscience told him to stab ME in the back [through Trump] out of pettiness and envy.
2. What is all this bull about "conscience" and "heart". He was a fact-finder in a quasi-judicial proceeding. It was his head not his heart that was to find the facts and apply the law. Cry me a river.

3. I hope, that in the event he is falsely accused, his finder of fact disregards the facts and the law, and votes to convict him because the judge/jury feel it is the "right thing to do". Live by it; die by it.

Then you campaigned in the wrong primary. The focus of a partisan in his own party's primary is who is best placed to beat the other party. You don't fight Trump because he is an orange bad who is man; you oppose Trump because you think you can beat the Democrats badder.

319 The general consensus among the professional Republicans today seems to be something along the lines of "Why can't Trump ever just take the win and shut up?" When it comes to Mitt Romney, I'll tell you exactly why: because contrasting himself with Mitt Romney is smart, politically. The rust-belt voters who elected Trump despise people like Mitt Romney. In fact, working-class people in general, including black and latino voters, despise people like Romney. In business, differentiation is key and Romney is like a marketing gift from the Gods, with his mom jeans riding up between his labia, his refusal to stick up for himself in 2012, his betrayal of so many people who did stick up for him in 2012, his great hair, and his pathological inability to relate to anyone without a pedigree. These are traits that might appeal to Bill Kristol and Jonah Goldberg and their little Twitter minions, but I promise you the average electrician or plumber has zero respect for it. I'm not one of these people who believes everything Trump does is a shrewd calculation, but hammering Romney doesn't just feel good, it's also political winner.

352 Love is commonly misunderstood in modern culture.

Love your enemies doesn't mean "do what they like or surrender to them." It means do what is best for them, treat them with compassion and with genuine care for them.

If you punish your child for doing wrong, that's loving. If you stop someone from taking their own life, that's loving. If you intervene with someone who is destroying their life with gambling, that's loving.

They'll dislike and even hate you for it. But its what is best for them.

I also suspect that Steyer is engaging in spending a bunch of walking around money in S.Carolina among the usual suspects. No clue about Nevada caucuses other than Warren's campaign there is a wreck. Warren may be out by March if nothing goes right in NH, SC, and NV. Biden certainly would be finished. That leaves Bernie, and Mayors Pete and Mikey to compete for the non-Bernie slot. Surviving the October Surprise.

GOTV.

Surviving massive voter fraud on a scale never contemplated or seen.

The Spite, hate and revenge factor, who's side wants it more.

I think Trump will win but it will be a slimmer electoral vote win than 2016 as the Donks are going to fraude their way to victories in PA and MI. because they were caught napping last time.

I think Trump holds on to WI and might, MIGHT, pick up MN, but that's about it.

For the interview right off the bat ask about vacation time and if you can have any more days than they offer. Then start sniffing and rubbing your nose and ask if they drug test and say Cuz that would suck if you do. Then ask if any of chicks who work there are big time partiers and are known to sleep with co-workers because it would really help if you could get some side action on the job. That's about all of the good advice I can think of

546 History trivia inspired by the sidebar Roman fruit post. (Get your minds out of the gutter!) Lucullus was a first century B.C. general and politician who was one of many who fought the endless Mithradatic in Pontus in eastern Asia. He was also an enthusiastic botanist. His Gardens of Lucullus in Rome were famous. Anyway he didn't do particularly well against Mithradates and was recalled to Rome. When he returned he brought a number of botanical specimens with him including cherry trees. He (and Mithradates) introduced cherries to the west.

557 So, I don't understand why Trump is not poised to win a 49 state landslide to match Nixon and Reagan. I don't understand why he won't win 60% of the popular vote. But he won't. The media keep pushing the Orange Man Bad insanity and it does have the effect of depressing his approval numbers. He cannot simply run on "Are you better off then you were four years ago?" He must add the Trump corollary: "The Dems have every intention of taking away everything that matters to you: jobs, higher wages, greater wealth, peace, everything." He must scare the holy hell out the electorate. And he must win a landslide and carry enough Republicans with him to take back the House and hold the Senate. Only an electoral drubbing of epic proportions, on the level of 1972, 1984, 1994, 2010, and 2014, has even the most slender chance of stopping the Democrats.
