Separately, newly emerged clips of Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., now the lead House impeachment manager, showed him saying Bolton had a distinct "lack of credibility" and was prone to "conspiracy theories." This week, Schiff said Bolton needed to testify in the trial as an important and believable witness. But for reasons unknown -- ask Establishment Liberals Chris Wallace, Bill Sammon, and Paul Ryan -- Fox has now stealth-edited the headline into the much less attention-getting, and much less accurate, "'GAME OVER,' Trump declares, as old Bolton, Schiff videos surface amid impeachment trial." What is the Dems' "defense" for demanding that the Republican Senate do their job for them -- call all the witnesses and present all the evidence that the Dems failed to call and present?
Posted by: Blonde Morticia at January 29, 2020 08:01 PM (M9ntN) --- I have no problem with the Senate calling new witnesses. I don't. But the Senate was given the power to remove, before the House was given the power to *check* the Senates vote by first concerning the House enough. That the House voted to impeach means just that. In my interpretation of Fed 6?, the Senate can look at the House and say "Gee what a nice impeachment you had there!" and decline to try it due to lack of interest. However, I believe it's all up to the discretion of the Senate. I don't believe this bullshit that if the House impeaches the Senate has to dutifully consider it. Because in the Fed about impeachment, it doesn't even *mention* the House, except as an afterthought. The Senate can remove the president with a 2/3rds majority, but it can't try him until the House says it's bad enough. Powers are not something we are compelled to do. So if the sole power is in the Senate, then that power is at the discretion of the Senate. There is no law compelling vetoes or overrides or a number of treaties, or any other *power* of a branch or chamber of government. That's not how *powers* work--and especially *sole* powers. So, whether or not the Senate wants to hear witnesses should be left up to the Senate, IMO. I don't find the argument "That's doing the House's job" that compelling, really. As Dershawitz said earlier in this run, the Constitution doesn't mention "articles" or "House prosecutors" or any of these traditional trappings of "impeachment". And I promoted the idea that the Senate did not need Pelosi's "delivery" before going ahead. Posted by: The Otter at January 29, 2020 08:14 PM (Eicbe) 129

OT: Suppose I have a nuclear powered 'project pluto' ramjet flying at Mach 4 (>1000 m/s) at about 70 km over the surface of some planet, which rhymes with 'what Schumer sucks'. I want to pull other craft to ramjet speed.
(Those slower guys, which I'm trying to speed up, might be going to orbit next. We're trying to cheat the Rocket Equation, here, by not using rockets unless we have to.) Is it feasible for the Pluto Ramjet to snake a tether down to the slower / lower vessels? Or am I smoking a lot of crack again. Posted by: boulder t'hobo at January 29, 2020 08:11 PM (ykYG2) I think any tether long enough to be useful would exert so much drag in that dense atmosphere as to drag the ramjet out of the sky. Have your ramjet slow to about its slowest speed, and match altitude with the daughter craft. Have the daughter craft do a brief intense fuel burn to match speed with the ramjet, and latch on. Then ramjet cranks up wide open to haul daughter craft to upper limits of atmosphere. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at January 29, 2020 08:19 PM (LxWV7) 171

Be careful with any letter telling you you owe any part of the government money.
First, check to see if it's a scam. Really check good. Some scammers are even better than legit bills. Second, research who sent you the bill and why on the down low. Don't call anyone yet till you find out who, why, where and when. Third, contact a lawyer or firm you trust. Delay and play for time and don't pay anyone anything until you get all the facts. Most government types except the IRS are incompetent and want the suckers to pay first but have no real way to get you to pay until it gets drug out for a length of time, goes to court, etc. And fuck Barack Obama. 100 Judge Sullivan might view it as cheeky, or even provocative, for the prosecution to see prison time for Flynn even as their personnel are being arraigned for various crimes against Flynn, perhaps?
======== Given Judge Sullivan's response to Powell's last motion for new evidence, I wouldn't get my hopes up. This said, Sydney is preserving many issues for appeal, and this will be a complicated one. I'm a little surprised a part of her latest motion didn't involve a request, if he denies the other relief requested, for a loooooong delay in the sentencing date. I would think she would want to wait out Durham investigation, which we hope will focus at length on SA-1, the dude that was overseeing the DOJ lawyer who will be visiting the poke in the not too distant future. Biden: A stuttering incompetent baffoon, who will lose decisively vs. Trump, and everyone knows it. Warren: Lying extremist, hated and feared by Dem monied interest on WallStreet. If they uncover valid reasons for suspicion--whether prosecutable or not (it's an investigation--not a prosecution), that lends more credence to the idea that Trump does not have to have an impure motive. Heck, I bet they could do a poll right now and find out that near half of the American people want H. Biden fully investigated, whatever that results in. And how could not be said to be the interest of the country. There was no pressing national interest in a self-defense fatality in Sanford Florida--but the press made sure that we knew the ins and outs to make Zimmerman a villain forever. Did you know the dad of the Lennon kids was murdered by a stalker who fantasized himself married to one of the Lennon sisters? Kipp and his brothers have a band called Venice. They do covers. Response: "You shouldn't have a partisan impeachment, which is itself a danger sign in the overturning of an election, in fact two elections. Opposition was bipartisan. If you have a process that is unprecedented, that should be considered. In this case, there was no vote authorizing impeachment, Nancy just did it. No historical precedents around the president's rights were violated. They now want the Senate to call witnesses they didn't pursue and to do what they did, only call their witnesses, don't have opposition witnesses from the president, etc. The House fails to understand fairness. In the American justice system, fairness is about fairness to the accused. Defer to Dershowitz' 'golden rule' about the shoe on the other foot." Romney question for president's counsel:
"On what date did Trump first withhold assistance, and did he explain the reason at that time?" Answer: "I don't think there is evidence in the record of the specific date. Testimony from OMB were aware of a hold as of July 3 and there is evidence of the president's rationale earlier than that, from late June. That was released under FOIA from the Chief of Staff, as a presidential meeting follow-up. The questions were around who got funding, did it go to US firms, and how much are other NATO members contributing. The concern was largely around burden-sharing, as was in the transcript from the July 25 call." Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at January 29, 2020 08:56 PM (9kgSk) 419

(Those slower guys, which I'm trying to speed up, might be going to orbit next. We're trying to cheat the Rocket Equation, here, by not using rockets unless we have to.) Posted by: boulder t'hobo at January 29, 2020 08:11 PM (ykYG2) In theory, yes. In fact there was a proposal of an "elevator to the stars" around where a cable goes from ground to geosync orbit and you just pull them up it. However tidal forces and weight of the cable on itself requires 'unreasonably strong materials', and if it breaks you have a hell of a mess when the line recoils in either direction. In theory, yes. In fact there was a proposal of an "elevator to the stars" around where a cable goes from ground to geosync orbit and you just pull them up it. Murks is up for releection in 2022, which is closer than you might think. She can get away with screwing over the base with Kavanaugh in 2018, but she can't screw over the base in 2020 with this fake impeachment. Murks, in all 3 of her campaigns, never got over 48.6% of the vote. She won't be able to pull another win out of her ass in '22 if she plays games, here. I'm paying attention to Hillary 3.0, and/or Michelle Obama, as the "white knight" candidate. Time is getting short. Absent a brokered convention selection, I believe early March marks the date a candidate needs to get on the ballot in order to play the delegate game.
Biden: A stuttering incompetent baffoon, who will lose decisively vs. Trump, and everyone knows it. Warren: Lying extremist, hated and feared by Dem monied interest on WallStreet. Not going to make it. Bernie: By far, the most likely to be the Dem nominee, absent shenanigans, and shenanigans are 100% guaranteed with the Dev establishment (just LOOK at what what they've done in last two elections). Powerful Dem forces will align to deny him the ticket. All of this tells me, our real enemy has yet to reveal herself. 709 I'm paying attention to Hillary 3.0, and/or Michelle Obama, as the "white knight" candidate.
