Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Saturday Overnight Open Thread (1/25/20)An older couple decides to retire for the evening. The husband was almost asleep as his head hit his pillow, but his wife felt a little romantic and wanted to talk. She says, “You know, when we were courting, you liked to hold my hand”. Wearily, he reaches across and holds her hand for a few seconds, and then tries to get back to sleep. A few moments later she says, “After that, you used to kiss me softly”. Mildly irritated, he turns over and gives her a peck on the cheek and again settles down for the night. Thirty seconds later she says, “Then after that, you used to bite me lightly on my neck”. Angrily, he throws back the bed covers and gets out of bed. “Where are you going?” she asks. “To get my teeth!” 'A young Moron in training.' I don't disagree. H/T Hank Curmudgeon. TAMPA — As another tax season gets underway, Ramon Christopher Blanchett learned that it doesn’t pay to mess with the Internal Revenue Service. U.S. District Judge James S. Moody Jr. sentenced the 29-year-old Tampa man on Thursday to 34 months in prison for filing a false return that netted him a $980,000 refund on income of less than $19,000. The penalty was near the top of the sentencing guidelines and reflected “the seriousness of your conduct,’’ Moody told him. Three years ago, Blanchett electronically filed his 2016 return with a W-2 from a Tampa nursing home that included false information about his wages and the amount of taxes withheld. The IRS sent him the whopping refund, which he deposited into a SunTrust account. The bank held on to the money for a full year but then issued a check to Blanchett in 2018. He spent $51,117 on a Lexus before the IRS realized its mistake and began forfeiture proceedings to get back the money. Hip, hip hooray for third world countries. And this my friends is one of the reasons you get f*cking killer viruses floating around the globe. An Asian man has been filmed dipping a live baby mouse into a bowl of sauce before eating it. The disgusting footage showed the man picking up a baby mouse with chopsticks before calmly devouring the squeaking rodent that was still moving. The revolting meal, which was accompanied by a plate of tomatoes, is reportedly considered a delicacy in the Guangdong province of southeast China. Some of you may know that I had a Twitter account and was bounced off of it for being "hateful". Me, hateful? If I had an Instgram account I would probably be bounced off that. Catalin Onc and Elena Engelhardt run an Instagram account called Another Beautiful Day Official. In June, they decided they wanted their next beautiful day to be funded by their followers, and started a GoFundMe for about 10k Euros to support their cycling trip through Africa. The pair have been criticized for the financial support they receive from Onc’s mother, who works two jobs. In response to the criticism they’ve received, they said: Influencers? Lord help us all. Pretty please. Amen. Some of you will get this. Others won't. The joy of geography. Bill Murray is famously a tough man to get a hold of. He’s not one of those actors with an agent pestering him with calls about work; what he has is a voicemail only an elite few know about, and which he rarely checks. He’s missed out on big roles, those he’s wanted and those he hasn’t. So perhaps this is a bit of a surprise: He’s officially set to return as Peter Venkman, one of the four heroes of the original two Ghostbusters, in the reboot/sequel Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The scoop was scored by Vanity Fair, who got the news from the horse’s mouth. While speaking to the publication, Murray confirmed he’d be joining fellow stars Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, themselves back as fellow ’busters Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore. Sadly, Harold Ramis, aka Egon Spengler, passed away in 2014. I don't think this would work with my driveway. Would it works with yours? Look who is settling down in Canada. ![]() The ONT regularly pokes at law enforcement officials. This story gives new meaning to Protect and Serve. K9 bites cow, deputy stuns dog, cow charges deputy in wild event Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes came under fire on social media over his old tweets about the George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin case and his apparent support for law enforcement. The tweets surfaced prior to the AFC Championship game between the Chiefs and the Tennessee Titans. The old social media posts appeared to show Mahomes and his former high school football teammate talking back-and-forth about the case and the trial, Fox News reported. The pro-law enforcement quarterback was initially being hit on Twitter for his alleged support of Zimmerman, who was cleared of all charges in the highly controversial 2013 shooting of Martin. People with actual health care experience would already know this (although my personal primary care physician does not), but, after seeing commentary all over hell on the subject, here's a reminder:
Those "surgical" face masks are to protect other people from your coughs and sneezes. They do not do anything at all to keep germs, bacteria, virus, from getting to you as you breathe. So if this thing starts to get bad, sure, wear a mask if you have a cough, but don't think you can protect yourself. I have a couple of gas masks that work for your typical gases, and crude heavy fallout. I don't for a moment think they'd work against hard-line bacilli, or any virus in the world. I'm not sure there is a filter rated for that. We always have months and months worth of food in stock, and liquor. Took delivery on a dozen bottles of Drambuie today, so we're good on rusty nails until the end of the world. And we went out for Chinese New Year, so that's off the list. May just hunker down until the "Iowa Caucuses" are over. Posted by: Way, Way Downriver at January 25, 2020 10:27 PM (oRpiG) 102

Any recommendations from the Horde? We were looking at a Maytag Bravos model.
Posted by: No One of Consequence Just did a ton of research on this, after buying a new Maytag set about 7 years ago -- and HATED it. This impeller thing is a really bad idea when it comes to getting dirty clothes clean, so you may want to filter your searches by agitator. After so many complaints in the last few years, most of the makers have started offering agitator models again. I ended up choosing the GE Model # GTW845CSNWS for capacity and user friendliness. (Deep water option will at least allow you to fill to the top, where many models decide for you how much water the load will need. They do not do this well.) It's due to be delivered in a couple of weeks so I can't report on its performance yet. My best advice is to find a used set (seriously) that works the way washers and dryers are supposed to, before they got "smart". mean something. My experience is anecdotal but the quality has gone down. Every time we had to replace a 20 year old American made appliance or fixture, we regretted it. I got so fed up with modern famous brands that were a joke I did some research. I had much better luck with the American made Speed Queen washer/dryers. Ebola and Marburg type viruses are completely different from the Coronavirus or SARS viruses - they kill by eating organ tissue and causing hemorrhaging in these organs along with crippling fever - not from the bacteria that results in the lungs from the viruses processes - this is how Coronavirus and SAR-type viruses kill people.

You have an excellent and probably 99% chance of surviving a SARs type virus if you are under the age of 70 or over the age of 5 and you get medical care within 24 hours of getting fever and flu like conditions - your chances of surviving a hemorrhagic fever virus from Africa (typically the Congo region) like Marburg are less than 40% regardless of the care - read the documentary novel "Hot Zone" - it'll scare the shit out of you but it will also educate you.

DNK the accuracy, but over at Zero Hedge, there is a story that the Corona virus was stolen from the Canada lab that is like their CDC, by Chinese spies, and smuggled into China. The article says that China is weaponizing biological viruses, the reason why they stole it. https://tinyurl.com/ugxyqgl Wuhan is about 20 miles from the Chinese Lab, where the virus first appeared. "...In March 2019, in mysterious event a shipment of exceptionally virulent viruses from Canada's NML ended up in China. The event caused a major scandal with Bio-warfare experts questioning why Canada was sending lethal viruses to China. Scientists from NML said the highly lethal viruses were a potential bio-weapon. Following investigation, the incident was traced to Chinese agents working at NML. Four months later in July 2019, a group of Chinese virologists were forcibly dispatched from the Canadian National Microbiology Laboratory (NML). The NML is Canada's only level-4 facility and one of only a few in North America equipped to handle the world's deadliest diseases, including Ebola, SARS, Coronavirus, etc...." Okay -Tucker Carlson defending Hunter Biden on Watters World just because he was a "victim" of some trust fund system of the swamp that he didn't chose to be in is the ultimate slap in a regular guys face - he's completely not self aware here. Of course Hunter and children of politicians are part of the problem and these useless souls need no help or love from Carlson.
You see how this goes, dudes working in DC, either in politics or the media, have total "sympathy" as users of the system - their defenders are way too marinated in it. Carlson grew up here and went to the same college and worked in the same graft environment. Of course it's Hunter's fault that he's a grifting trust fund baby loser - this will not cease until half of the DC government agencies are moved out of the DC Posted by: Boswell at January 26, 2020 12:04 AM (32YRo) 405
With the "official numbers" the mortality rate is about 3%. But keep in mind, they are not releasing numbers of people in critical condition in the hospitals. Estimates that the mortality rate is around 10% at the low end. The R-Naught is between 2.5-3.5. Spanish Flu was 1.8.

one caveat here. Let's all be honest for once. If a random person goes to America and knows nothing of the area, what are the chances they get wonderful food? In my opinion, and not just mine, the average or random restaurant sucks or is at least nothing special.
I know people who say there is not good food in Spain. If you know about michelin ratings or even regional cuisine, you would know why that statement is absurd. Tastes vary there is no question there. But to say there is no good food in Spain is to say more about yourself than Spain. I was also told by someone I knew very well that there was no milk in Mexico. The point i am making is people can often come up with absolutes about countries they visit that they never would about the USA. Who would claim there is no milk in Cleveland? Again, i am not surprised that someone had a bad experience in China. Hell, it is a very foreign cuisine, it is not the American version, and it is China. Most of their people don't get any good shit by design. What gets me is the absolutism. BTW, I think Spain has something like 5 of the top ten Michelin restaurants. And even if that is a bit too far, pretty much all serious chefs call it the nation that is making the most waves now. And at the low end, Spanish cuisine is still the best. you have bars with jamon Iberico, and other tapas that will blow your mind. But many will go there,. expect American style food at American style times and be disappointed. Just like in Italy. You can get bad food there, they have tons of tourist traps. Just like here, you have to do your research. And even then, the food simply might not be to your liking. Posted by: Quint at January 26, 2020 12:04 AM (n13/j) 407

I know when we would pick out a place i Europe, we would ignore any place that had their menu translated into five languages. IF you saw a bunch of Japanese or Germans, you went elsewhere. That might sound cruel but that is how people acted back in the normal days. you want to go to the least welcoming place possible. You want go where the natives go and not tourists. So many think the freshet sushi is the best but not sushi pro would say such a thing. The pro will tell you that they have to age it to the right point. None of the pros will say the fresher the better. Try fresh steak, it is an abomination. Try an olive of the tree, you will likely puke. The freshest sushi is a cliche. INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Lucas Oil Stadium is officially a sensory-inclusive venue, certified by accessibility advocacy group KultureCity. The stadium is now equipped with sensory bags that will help those who struggle with sensory regulation due to disorders like autism, dementia and PTSD. The bags include noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards and weighted lap pads. The kits are expected to help visitors who are sensitive to overstimulation and noise. Medical professionals have also trained the stadium's staff to better assist visitors with sensory needs, teaching them how to help handle overstimulation. the funny thing is i have truly not watched either story. People ask how that is possible and I can only say I have seriously not heard three words Thonburg has said. I do see people wearing masks these days. If this is a serious threat to America, someone needs to come out and say it.LIke I said before, if you go to a random supermarket. You will see the most unclean activities imaginable. For one, parents let their kids grab produce, fun around with it, and put it back. Who thinks the child is the expert of personal hygiene? I haven't followed the case. But i bet many are on it. It there was ever a case for border control, I don't know what it was. But for some reason no one will care about that. Somehow America will be at fault for not doing enough. Wasn't last year the Australia wildfires and for some reason we were at fault there? Funny you don't hear about them these days. So everyone likes this guy "fluffy" He is a comedian and as far at that goes i respect him and give him a lot of leeway.
But this is what i don't understand. in the last famous Fluffy episodes avavalabile on youtube. you have the3 guy: 1) traveling to Saudi Arabia for a tonne of money. So he performs for a tonne of money for princes in a nation with all kinds of aphartheid. They segregeate the sexes, the races, everyone. But Fluffy had a good time. 2) this guy has a famous set where he "clowns" a black guy. He and and his buddy joke on him by giving the gut a racist gift basket. Yeah, hah hah, but really was is that funny? IT seemed to me the guy was an ass basket,, trying to be relevant. Fine, you you scared your friend and blamed it on White Supremacism. Ha ha, you pric, You were racist but somehow we all find it funny. 3. So the last "fluffy" thing I saw was him going on and on about being stopped by the Border patrol/ice. This guys admitted that this was not racial but regular circumstance. But this guy "fluffy" had the balls and cowardice to to call out officer Sanchez, call him a traitor and show everything but his eye line. Again, so this guy everyone loves named "fluffly" 1), thought the funniest thing ever was using racial stereotypes to insult a black man and scare him. 2) thought the coolest thing ever was to got to Saudi Arabia and perform for Sheiks. He thought the male female apartheid was ok for some reason. 3) but when then guys bus if pulled over in America for lawful reasons, he shames the Border Patrol Officer Sanchez and calls him a traitor. He shows the man sans the eye line. But he tried to humiliate this man and make him and enemy. The same comedian who attacked African Americans and supported the Saudis. At what point do we ask people if they are for real. This prick attacks an American officer? That alone should get him some charges. I don't hold ill will to this guy, he can be funny. But at what point are we going to say enough is enough? He was racist against blacks, he supported the Saudi regime, and he put a target of fellow hispanic Americans for doing their job. Yet people think this guy is funny. Posted by: Quint at January 26, 2020 05:09 AM (n13/j) 531
and going back a long way, back to the 80s for sure, the majority of Border Patrol Agents were of Hispanic. I don't know where the term became ice, but we always has the Border Patrol.

Posted by: Quint at January 26, 2020 05:15 AM (n13/j) ICE stands for Immigration and Customs Enforcement We have had a "border patrol but not ICE. It was formed in 2003 under Bush II as part of the Homeland Security work. Posted by: Vic at January 26, 2020 05:23 AM (mpXpK) 533
531 Have taken note of that, but then having Spanish speaking agents is helpful to grabbing illegal Spanish speaking immigrants.

Take heart in that God loves you, even in your weakness.
Posted by: free tibet at January 26, 2020 01:23 AM (DCYln) Interesting that you should mention that, because I was just reading a quote from a letter of St Pio (An Italian Capuchin priest who died in the 1960s) to one of the people who came to him for spiritual direction. He remarks that if we have a lot of self love or passion about things that should be treated with indifference, or are tempted in life we should life up our heart and confidently and humbly say to God Lord, have mercy on me, because I am only a weakling." Then, with a peaceful and tranquil heart, we should go about our business." This seems like a very good "12 step" approach in our faith. We rely on God's power, not ours. The Border Patrol has been around a long time. Just because someone spoke Spanish didn't mean they were on the side of illegals. You have to understand the area. Hell, Texas was Spanish speaking before it became an independent state. The idea that a state had to control its borders was not controversial a few decades ago. The poeple who produced this lot have some explaining to do, not me. I say anyone who didn't know the Border Partrol was 60 - 70 percent Hispanic in the 70s and 80s, simply never learned that history. Posted by: Quint at January 26, 2020 05:35 AM (n13/j) 538

Hispanic Border patrol Agents are part of the culture=, they are parr of the region the overseer. . And it just makes sense that boder patrol agents might be hispanic. how stupid are so many Americans. I know they are that stupid. But anyone who lived along the border knows that the majority of agents are hispanic. Sorry ot burst your bubble, it is called real life. Posted by: Quint at January 26, 2020 05:43 AM (n13/j) 541

My plan is to make fried potatoes with eggs. I made a few extra baked potatoes yesterday to slice up this morning. Thinking mixed with bacon, onion and peppers, and over-easy eggs on top.

Yeah, Twitter is a joke. Same here. My 10 year old Twitter account was "suspended" because one tweet was determined to be enough to say the only use of my, again, 10 year old account, was "hateful conduct".
A complete joke. Posted by: deadrody at January 26, 2020 05:57 AM (/jrmI) 547
