The Morning Rant

Things You Never Hear Progressives Say:

All things considered, America really is the best country ever, and I'm grateful to live here.

Thanks to capitalism, I can hang out at Starbucks all day and complain about capitalism.

Sometimes when a woman cries rape, she's just trying to get the guy in trouble.

This is an issue that should be decided by the states, not the federal government.

You know, Stalin was kind of a d*ck, wasn't he?

Why are we wearing 'Che' T-shirts? The guy was a psychotic, murderous thug.

We probably shouldn't be teaching 6-year-old children about things like anal sex and fisting.

Giving an 8-year-old girl puberty-blocking drugs and male hormones just because she's going through a tomboy phase is probably a bad idea.

White privilege is so bad, I am going to give all my money and property to charity and go live in a feces-enhanced, third-world country.

Why is it that all of the cities in our country that are slowly being transformed into feces-enhanced environments have all been controlled and run for decades by Democrats?

Can't we have a protest without all of these damn commies showing up?

Jumping up and down while wearing pink pussy hats and screaming obscenities may be fun, but it doesn't really accomplish anything, and actually makes us look ridiculous.

Gee, men and women really are different.

We should get married and have many children.

It's OK to strongly argue against Trump supporters, but no violence, please, that's going too far.

Drag queen story hour?? Have you lost your freaking mind!!??

Hey, some of these Democratic presidential candidates are way too extreme.

If we keep it dialed up to 11 all of the time, people will just tune us out.

I guess some things in life are bigger than politics.

She's a man, baby!

God bless us, every one.

Jeffrey Epstein didn't kill himself.

43 Oh, man. That dumb-ass tweet will be hard to top.
... deaths under Mao are, largely, due to natural reasons such as famines ...

Oy vey. Where to even begin? The indoctrination is strong with this one. The ideas that famines can have a human cause (like Mao's disastrous collectivization and cadre leadership during the Great Stumble Backward) or even a *deliberate* human cause (like Stalin's terror famine in Ukraine) seem to be fully lost on this loser. Or the fact that no capitalist country has ever experienced a famine. Or the fact that agriculture production crashes with perfect correlation following collectivization measures. Never mind all the other BS. What a maroon.

It is also very amusing to me that people like this chalk up incompetence-cum-famine as a "natural disaster" yet firmly believe in anthropogenic climate change. The cognitive dissonance burns.

Warai-otoko got it at comment 92: Schneider. Pat Harrington, a graduate of the old Steve Allen show, played the apartment building super to perfection.

My mother didn't care for most sitcoms, but she liked that one, including its theme song.

You know what was actually surprisingly funny was Anger Management with Charlie Sheen. My husband and I didn't want to find it funny, not being Charlie Sheen fans, but it kept being on while we were doing other stuff, and we kept finding ourselves laughing at it. The prisoners were the best part - part of the premise is that Charlie is an anger management therapist, and he has group therapy in a prison. Being a pretty terrible therapist, he keeps ending up telling the prisoners about his personal life, and he often takes their advice. One of the prisoners is named Wayne, and he's a serial killer. One scene that I still laugh at:

Jordan (another therapist who works with Charlie at the prison): Charlie's late for work today. Apparently there was a bus accident.
Wayne: Well, that's just inconsiderate. When I kill somebody, no one's late for work.
Jordan: (smiling nervously) Well...except the one guy.
Wayne: (considers that) I stand corrected.

AOC riles Dems by refusing to pay party dues, bankrolling colleagues' opponents

EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has already topped the fundraising charts in her short time in Congress, but the liberal darling won't donate a cent of her millions to Democrats' House campaign organization -- a position that has rankled some of her colleagues, Fox News has learned.

Instead, Ocasio-Cortez is building her own fundraising operation for fellow progressive candidates to bypass the official Democratic Party infrastructure. Already, she's actively funding primary challengers to oust certain Democratic colleagues.

185 Regarding The Last Picture Show, about 6 years ago this May I was driving across Texas and diverted to Archer City, Larry McMurtry's home town and the location where they filmed the movie. It still looks very much like it did in 1970, with the single traffic light on its cable at the intersection, and the theatre building (not a theatre any more) off to the north of it.

I don't recommend the town. They have not yet discovered air conditioning. The dinner where I ate lunch was stifling, and so were Larry's two bookshops on the main street. I fled back to my car and got out of Dodge as soon as I could.

193 My local fitness establishment has been pouring tens of thousands of dollars trying to save the viability of their indoor pool. It is badly in need of restoration and previous attempts at controlling humidity have failed. Even if they were able to make it functional, it would be a money-loser for them.

One of my sauna-mates is a leftist. He about red-lined my blood pressure by saying that the fitness center owners (who put tens of thousands of dollars on the line) don't care about making sure the community has a pool and that the local Rec Center should install a pool. I guess the city would care. Because it's okay to fund a money-losing facility as long as you are getting the money from people who can't say no (taxpayers).

Argh. This leftist thinks he's smarter and kinder than other people. I bet he didn't offer any of his own resources to help keep our pool functioning. Several of us non-leftists offered to help.

307 lots of great points listed by the Big Ape.

"Thanks to capitalism, I can hang out at Starbucks all day and complain about capitalism."

I'd argue with this one a little ... other nations have had "capitalism" and failed. Capitalism is not a government, it happens under the umbrella of liberty and justice that protects the sovereign, above all. And capitalism lives under communism to a lesser degree, because the state intervenes to abscond with the profit side, so the principles of capitalism work only around the edges.

Corporate entities like Starbucks don't have to serve the best coffee, they have stock money and corporate arrangements in DC, along with a friendly relationship with the MSM as the corporate world gets WOKE. Is it really "capitalism" to have most of the country (blindly) putting their retirement savings into "The Market"? Do we trust Goldman and Merrill to care for our money/future/liberty?

I'm talking about rent and things like that--plus no cable or cell phone or internet bills. Not everyone had credit cards and debit cards were unheard of--so things were mostly cash. And cash meant you could make deals,

Another thing i remember is that --at least where I was--the children of fairly well-off professionals and the the children of the working (almost) poor went to school and hung out together.

355 @104, 129, 124 (and probably others, I didn't read all the way down)
Re: Famine in Ireland

I assume that you are all referring to the "Great Irish Potato Famine" of 1845 to 1849.

There is a reason why it is also known as "The Great Hunger" - that's because there was never a famine in Ireland.

Famine - by definition - refers to a lack of food, and there was plenty of food available in Ireland during that time. The problem was that the commoners could not afford to buy it.

Why? Simply because the potato harvests failed due to potato blight, and the potato crop was used as a crude form of banking. People laboured in the fields to produce potatoes, which were a reserve of wealth - the crop had a value equal in some part to the cost of the labour expended to produce it.

When the blight hit, it fundamentally meant that the farmers lost their entire years income.

There was plenty of food, but the people had no money to buy it. Hence, "The Great Hunger".
