The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“Although the impact of the law is difficult to measure since it is preventative in nature, I believe that the removal of firearms and prevention of future purchases of firearms from individuals in Cranston, where extreme risk protection orders were granted by the court, likely averted potential tragedies,”Cranston Police Chief Michael Winquest

Quote II

“This idea of respectability, this idea of civility, this idea of unity, all of these words—decorum—who invented these words? These words were invented by white men for the benefit of other white men, in systems and institutions that were always designed to be for white men.”Mona Eltahawy

Quote III

“In the last 10 years, UIN [Mexican Naval Intelligence] has become the most trusted Mexican intelligence service for the DEA and DIA,” Dr. Raúl Benitez-Manaut

Quote IV

But the Democrats are so committed to their exotic fairy tale — Trump is a monster, Trump is a Nazi, Trump is a white nationalist, etc. — that they have forgotten how to run an ordinary campaign against an ordinary failure. Kevin D. Williamson

Quote V

“Dealing with firearms, it is irrational, with all due respect to the governor of Texas, irrational what they are doing, “On the very day you see a mass shooting … and we’re talking about loosening access to have guns, to be able to take them into places of worship, it’s just absolutely irrational. It’s totally irrational.” Former VP Joe Biden

Quote VI

“A lot of of people in show business that get really successful at an early age, a lot of them go through a lot of stuff and have issues and drug problems, and all these are self-destructive. And I never had that because I was grounded spiritually."Eddie Murphy

Pot use among those with depression is increasing.

(Reuters Health) - Regular cannabis use has risen more quickly among people with depression, and they’re less likely to perceive it as risky, compared with people who aren’t depressed, a U.S. study suggests.

Researchers examined data collected from a total of almost 729,000 people aged 12 years and older between 2005 and 2017, including any prior-month cannabis use and any depression experienced over the previous year.

By the final year of the study, about 19% of people with depression reported at least some cannabis use, compared with 8.7% of individuals without a recent history of depression. In 2005, about 10.2% of people with depression and 5.7% of individuals without depression used the drug.

He's a creep with brass balls.

Yeah, no. You violated our rights to an unbiased law enforcement agency.

Via The Hill:

Former FBI agent Peter Strzok, a onetime member of former special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe, is claiming the FBI and Justice Department violated his rights of free speech and privacy when firing him for uncovered texts that criticized President Trump.

Strzok and his legal team made the claims in a court document filed Monday that pushes back on the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) motion to dismiss the lawsuit he filed in August over his ouster a year earlier.

Quite the secret ingredient. Opium laced noodles.

Rather than improve his noodle recipe, a restaurant owner in China’s Guangxi Province would lace his noodles with opium to get patrons addicted and increase the chances of them coming back for more.

The restaurateur’s dirty trick was uncovered by mistake, after someone who ate at his local in Sanjiang Dong Automonous County tested positive for morphine, the active component in opium, during a police inspection. The shocked man insisted that he had not willingly taken drugs, and told investigators that the only thing he had ingested that he couldn’t vouch for was a bowl of noodles at a local restaurant. That’s how police ended up making a surprise visit to the noodle shop in question, where they took a packet of snail powder which tested positive for morphine.

Mentally unstable woman, stops taking male hormones. Gets knocked up and gives birth. Significant other is also unstable. Transgender man gives birth to non-binary partner's baby with female sperm donor

EXCLUSIVE: Proud dad Reuben Sharpe has revealed how he gave birth to miracle baby Jamie with partner Jay in Britain’s most modern family - and even the couple's doctor was transgender

But he still had maternal instincts and six years ago stopped taking testosterone in the hope of one day having a child.

And that dream came true when he and partner Jay had a bouncing baby.

Jay is non-binary – so does not identify as male or female.

The sperm donor was a trans woman... and even the DOCTOR was transgender.

Just because you want it to be true, doesn't make it true.

More Paste Eater news: Joe Biden says he would consider naming Sen. John McCain a Republican as his running mate.

Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden on Monday said that he would consider choosing a Republican for a running mate if he’s the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee, though he said someone who would fit the proper bill didn’t immediately come to mind.

“The answer is I would, but I can’t think of one now,” Mr. Biden said in response to a questioner at a campaign stop in New Hampshire.

“No, I’m serious. … There’s some really decent Republicans that are out there still, but here’s the problem right now with the well-known ones: they’ve got to step up. You know what I mean?” he said. “I’m not being a wise guy.”

Wonder if Skipper Bill will step up?

Not only can you get a cup of coffee and a piece of pie at the local cafe, shortly you'll be able to enjoy some marijuana there as well in Colorado.

Seven years after Colorado legalized marijuana, the state legislature has finally authorized options for people who want to use it somewhere other than private residences. A law that takes effect on Wednesday will allow cannabis consumption in specially licensed pot shops, restaurants, and other businesses, including mobile "marijuana hospitality establishments" such as tour buses. The law addresses a predicament that has long puzzled out-of-state visitors who stop by dispensaries in cities such as Denver and Pueblo, only to discover that there are virtually no places where they can legally consume the marijuana they have just legally bought.

That gap will not be filled immediately, since businesses that want to create cannabis consumption spaces have to obtain both state and local permission. The Colorado Department of Revenue's Marijuana Enforcement Division has posted a license application form, along with the relevant regulations, which take effect on January 1. But cities need not allow on-site consumption at all. Assuming that local governments go along, Coloradans should eventually see something like Dutch-style "coffeeshops" where customers can enjoy marijuana with food and beverages in a social setting.

I'm not sure what was going through through these cops head when this photo was taken. Very little good comes from posting on the job photos to social media.

Cops make ‘quilt’ out of homeless signs. Is panhandling free speech?

A photo showing two Alabama police officers bragging about a "homeless quilt" made from confiscated panhandling signs raises questions about the constitutionality of panhandling.

Milano, an actress turned activist, tweeted at Trump to end the use of such language on Twitter, saying it adds “to the stigma of mental illness” and so harms the “44 million of us who suffer.”

The ONT Musical Interlude

RIP Neil Innes

Comedian and musician Neil Innes, who collaborated with Monty Python and played with The Rutles, has died aged 75, his agent has said.

Essex-born Innes wrote music for Monty Python’s albums including Monty Python’s Previous Record and The Monty Python Matching Tie and Handkerchief, after becoming involved with the comedy group in the 1970s.

He appeared in the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail as a head-bashing monk, the serf crushed by the giant wooden rabbit, and the leader of Sir Robin’s minstrels. He also had small roles in Terry Gilliam’s Jabberwocky and Monty Python’s Life of Brian.

Innes is said to have provided the famous whistling on “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life”.

Strangers help out scammed man. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

A World War II veteran from California fell on some pretty hard times when scammers took away $10,000 that he meant to put towards retirement, until a couple of strangers got together to gift him enough money to cover what he lost.

Floyd Smith, 92, of Fresno, California, received a check for $12,472.60 on Monday from hundreds of people who donated to his GoFundMe page and heard his story, ABC News reported.

Expect the MSM to run major stories over the next day or two blaming gerbil warbeling for this.

About a decade ago, it was also warm in Moscow, and some major media organization ran a big story about this. The day the story ran, there was snow on the ground in downtown Los Angeles - but that was just weather.

165 Pot use among those with depression is increasing.

Pot usage, like most things, follows the 80-20 rule - 20% percent of pot smokers smoke 80% of the pot.

The professional who occasionally smokes a joint on weekends has no idea how damaging heavy pot use can be to one's life.

One thing that is really striking in Portland is that the pot shops tend to be concentrated in poor neighborhoods - you're not seeing a lot of pot shops in affluent neighborhoods.

Mrs. Sock Monkey informed me of that tonight. My comment was, so my soon to be 9 year old grand daughter who legally this year didn't require a booster seat now has to be in one. 339 Xanax is wonderful stuff-- IF you're truly anxious.

By "anxious" I mean: running and twitching like a squirrel when it sees a hawk, spazzing out like a kitty on catnip, just generally so wired that you *cannot* process any rational thought...

367 Yes, people's bodies process compounds differently and that's why there are different compounds within classes of drugs.

So, yeah, "relief" is spelled differently for various persons.

Anti-anxiety drugs, in their various formulations (of course), have a specific purpose.

But still there are the a-holes who abuse for their own amusement-- and then the "elites" crack down on ALL of it.

388 Went and saw "Richard Jewell" today. There were four of us in the theatre, so I think I chose a good day to take advantage.

Pocket review? I had no idea Leonardo diCaprio had gained so much weight.

Actual review: You get your money's worth when Clint is working. Skillfully made, well told tale, several actors of some weight (!) turned in otherwise-Oscar-nominatable performances: moving in a strange way. The lawyer's Ukrainian secretary has a killer line that is the very soul of the film. I had a feeling that he was almost tip-toeing to stay on script from the source documents, as if he knew there would be "journalistic" complaints.

Not mentioned in the film at all, and yet, if you look it up it is true: the outrageous female reporter, whose big spoiler I will skip just now? She killed herself with an overdose five years after her "glory." Poor Richard actually outlived her.

I plan on doing some "research" when pot becomes legal here in Illinois this week.
Mostly for my wife.. She was on Paxil - an anti-anxiety medication for 20 years for an inner ear condition that makes her very dizzy, all day long.
But she had to stop it over the course of last year because it conflicts with her new heart meds for arrhythmia.. She's miserable every day.
Neither of us have smoked pot in 40 plus years..But I'm hoping something will help her, from what I've read.

The movie did not use gore to tell the story. Grossest part that I remember was some CGI fleas jumping off of a dead cat onto one of the protagonists. There was another scene where there were some dead babies being examined, but they only showed enough of their bodies that you could tell what they were.

473 Yeah I don't want to come down too hard on boston. I learned one thing from them when I was young that was extremely important, and thats guitar harmonies. I was amazed by them when I heard boston doing them, so I focused on learning them. I used to multi track them using 2 POS cassette recorders that had the buttons like piano keys. Yeah, those old things. I would play the rhythm on one, then play it back and play one part of the harmony while recording it all on the other tape recorder, then play that back and play the other half of the harmony, etc, and when I got done it was all on one tape and it pretty much sounded like boston. It turned out to be one hell of a thing to know later when the metal invasion started as harmonies were the backbone of bands like iron maiden and some others. It was effortless to figure out because I learned how to do it from boston. It was second nature to be able to hear all the parts at the same time. Yeah, frigging boston.

It made the amp think it was running full bore to get output tube distortion, which happenes when running the output transformer full out, but at the same time allowed you to adjust volume so you didn't blow the windows out. It ran the amp hard though. In a nutshell, you got big sound at low volume. Really important when miking up speakers for both recording and live.

Bands that really impress me are those that can change their sound and their style at will, and come up with albums that sound completely different than anything they've done before. The Beatles, the Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones. Each new album from a group like that was an adventure.

And a band I saw in concert in 1973, at Norfolk's Scope. Can't finish the HQ meme joke, though, because I do not remember who opened for them.

But I do remember Foghat opening for Mountain at the Hampton Roads Coliseum, also 1973. I did go to a lot of concerts in high school. $3 to $5 for a ticket. Back in 1985, I went to see The Motels open for Supertramp at Radio City. That one set me back around $40 a ticket ($80 with date). Now? I'm not spending over a hundred bucks on a concert ticket, and that's just to be in the nosebleed seats.

513 What's often missed about the late '60s and especially the entire '70s LP music scene is this.

It was the era of the "Silver-Face" Hi-Fi.

What once was the realm of doctors and lawyers, with their McIntosh and Scott components, it evolved to be popularized by servicemen returning from the Far East and Military PX prices.

And they brought back their Pioneer, Sansui, JVC, and Kenwood systems by the tens of thousands.

No. HUNDREDS of thousands.

The Silver-Face Stereo era then, was every bit as much an awakening as the Smart Phone era, now.

Imagine, you're a kid in 1964. And your Beatles 45 on your portable player is "tech". And then in '66, you get to hear a Beatles LP, in STEREO, for the first time.

Thing is a tube-driven console from Magnavox, but it was till a revelation.

Next thing you know, Uncle Kenny just brought back a full Pioneer system from the PX on Okinawa.

And it's like nothing you've ever heard, before.

What else was concurrent with all this?

24 channel recording studios, multiplex mixers, pedal effects at the guitarists' feet, and so much more, besides

Mommas and Pappas, Boston, Beach Boys.

Could NOT have happened in the '40s.

The technology was not then yet ready to accommodate their talents and drive.

And I think that all that was the peak of the era of what's done with sound, studio, artist and talent.

It all Apexed in the Michael Jackson era, and went downhill from there.

And now it's autotuned, anodyne talent, voiceless twinks like Taylor Swift n' Brinney Spears.

Say what you want about Christina Aguilera. She can kill you when singing with nothing more than a piano as backup. Brittney? Without electronic processing and twenty dancers, she can't wipe her own ass with a mic, much less SING with one.

Yet, she's sold a zillion records.

That would not have happened in 1975.

I defer the details beyond this to Mr. Berserker.

This is the realm of his expertise, and I hereby yield the floor.

Sort of like how they took 10 Years After's minor hit, 'I Want To Change The World', off radio play lists today because of the 'everywhere is freaks and hairies/dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity' lyrics.

I agree completely, that's exactly how I felt about them. They've had a few good songs since then, but through the 70's they were getting better and better with each album, and they hit the absolute peak of their abilities with Moving Pictures. And then - they slid off the mountain top and never could get that peak back. I suppose that happens to a lot of performers.

There are few things more thrilling that being on a long, straight, empty West Texas hiway, and seeing if you really can push that V-8 past 120 while listening to Red Barchetta cranked all the way!

The AM/FM/Cassette Stereo *transformed* the driving experience, back then.

Eight Track was but a hiccup-ing false-start, into that era.

And the sophistication (or lack thereof) in the 8 track era, just weren't yet up to what the mid to late 70s delivered in Car Audio in the cassette era.

My opinion? The late '80s were the finest in automotive stereo.

Before the thumping bass era.

It was all about the delivery of FULL audio, accurate across the spectrum, across the "production/reproduction" barrier.

The goal was to be able to listen to David Benoit on he Piano, the same at 70 mph on the road, as with 0 mph from your living room sofa.

Rap and hip-hop has destroyed mobile audio EQUIPMENT, for the truly musically inclined.

581 When I was a budding acoustic guitarist at 15, I used to go down to the original Guitar Center on Sunset. They would let you pick up anything you wanted up to the most expensive Martin's and give them a play. I wanted to go 12 string and my fingers bled for months trying to master the basics on a big bodied De`Angelico that I bought from a friend.Tried to follow Leo Kottke and so wanted to figure out how Joni Mitchell was able to do those complex cord progressions.Took me years to realize she "pre-tuned" in drop D and other pre-tuned settings. Got pretty good in my 20's but never good enough.....life turned to other goals after that....

But without Quad equipment, it is simply, not.

For my money. And for my bourbon and annual get completely schnockered and play music and regress to decades past.

Dark Side of the Moon. Musically? We can argue without end.

But nothing takes me back to that ONE particular summer, that particular TIME, as does that.

What I lived then, can not have any other sound track, than that.

And that's not because of the music of the era.

But rather, the trauma that was my life at that time.

And with that, I'll bid the ONT, a fond Good Night, and if I'm absent later, a ..

Not exactly sure when I lost my hearing, but only real clear/clean things or music that I heard while young ever stuck with me. I could hear tunes in my mind even after my ability to match the note with my voice went haywire. The rest has just been noise.

Got digital hearing aides, now. Who knew a sink faucet makes such a rich sound?! And a robin's chirp scares the crap out of me. Friggen velociraptors in the bushes. It turns out that wrapping a bow on a country and handing it over to Iran because there's an election coming up and you want to be able to make a "PROMISE KEPT" page on your campaign website so you can keep flying around in AF1 for four more years is not sound foreign policy.

Holy. Crap.

They literally want to run on pointing out how much Trump has improved the economy.

What we might get is a citizenry which decides that the misery of progressivism and crime reduction initiatives which consist of decriminalizing crime, and refusing to protect law abiding citizens are not such good ideas.

709 "Hopes are meant to be crushed under a bootheel, into an unrecognizable paste. Bon apetit!"

Perhaps I am too optimistic.

And perhaps I see signs where none truly exist.

But in this area, there is no sheltering bubble of right-wing conservatism, to isolate me from what the Left is talking about.

There is no wall, no barrier, no 'good' side of town.

One is surrounded and immersed in the verbal garbage pail of leftist trope and progressive utopian thinking.

Social Media here is a protected platform for the broadcasting of every single progressive new age 'ism of the day, day in and day out.

Yet....folk are saying small things...little utterances..points of rebellion against this form of crap that we are submerged in daily.

So while I may be completely wrong, I continue to hope.

November 2020 will be my final test.
