Saturday Morning Coffee Break

rise-shine-20150706-9.jpg

***

Good morning. Yes, it really is Saturday morning and time for a coffee break. Let's take a look at a few items that didn't get too much attention here at the AoSHQ this past week.

***

  • There isn't a taxation problem, there is a spending problem.

  • Manly men, who wish to remain manly won't touch the Impossible Burger.

  • "Smart" items aren't so "Smart" after all.

  • Gift ideas? Skip the DNA tests.

  • The Support Critter movement has gone too far.

  • No year end bonus for this dude.

  • The 3rd 2nd time is the charm.

  • Real art should be arousing. Or, what a hard-on.

  • Oh-oh, the Detroit PD is really pi$$ed off

As usual, enjoy these stories or something else that trips your trigger. Open thread Morons.

Just a couple of rules, no running with sharp objects and be kind to one another. Have a great weekend!!!

    ₤1,500,000 divided by 448 = ₤3348 each.

That is cheaper than a Segway. At least they are protected from the elements and can sit down.

They whine about not chasing bad guys in the car. Well they don't do it in fire trucks either. Different use cases.

I'm sure the code enforcement agents can make use of it patrolling neighborhoods looking for litter, unmowed grass or dilapidated fences.

26 The real story about the Detroit PD is that they actually caught someone.

    That didn't used to happen.

Also, the current chief is all about the concealed carry, which makes the gun control sell a little harder here in Michigan. In fact, there was a series a few years ago where they showed striking reductions in violent crime after the cops urged people to arm themselves against home invasions.

Which pretty much proves that VA isn't interested in crime but compliance.

My oldest daughter was all-in on the vegan thing. It made holiday meals a pain in the ass, also going out to eat, etc. When her new job turned stressful, she started losing weight and couldn't seem to gain it back. Tired, upset, and then one day she ate some chicken.

It was tasty. Filling. She felt a rush of energy that she'd long missed.

Slowly, incrementally she worked actual meat into her diet and now she's back on the omivore bus. Feels great, doing well.

Part of what convinced her was the realization that "healthy" and "natural" foods are far more processed than the "bad" ones.

You want free-range, grass-fed anti-biotic-free meat? They have that.

Everyone's talking about gun control, but I think the thing that could destroy the Virginia Dems is their bid to abolish zoning.

Wine moms like their plush, elite neighborhoods.

Sure, they'll talk the good game about low-income housing, but not in THEIR back yard.

Here's the thing: the Dem majority isn't vast. It only takes a handful of Dems in marginal districts to guarantee their re-election by being heroes and stopping this madness.

And yes, they would get re-elected. The GOP would be hard-pressed to bounce a centerist Dem who could run on being the savior of both decent neighborhoods and gun rights.

Gov. Blackface doesn't have to face the voters again, so he's all YOLO, but the rest are being asked to wreck their careers before they even get sworn in.

These people are comically stupid, but also very, very dangerous.

51 I have friends and relations who have climbed on top of the Vegan submarine.

    I worry about them.

Largely thanks to the recently late #BeHereNow dude, in my self-styled pseudobuddhism, I tried vegetarianism for a while, but I didn't know what I was doing. B vitamin deficiency can have odd consequences. Lucky for me, Milady joined me and fed me saving vitamins and beef.

Milady and I dabbled in vegetarianism again years later, more informed on protein combining, B12 supplementing, and other things our carnivorous bodies require.

Never went vegan, though. (Or Vogon.) Always had dairy. And eggs (my late eldest brother once said, oh, so you don't eat meat but you eat pre-meat). Occasionally some fish. Mom's crispy bacon, of course, but that's holy food. Gyros if we happen to be at the Greek Islands in Chicago, because, gyros. But otherwise, strict vegetarian. ;-)

There may be some folks who are genetically geared to withstand vegetarianism or even veganism, but as with gluten intolerance it's fad not fact, and abysmally stupid people are only hurting themselves. And their children!

Trump played with other people's money as well ... but he didn't get that money (banks or private investors, or partners) without a plan with known risks, risks accepted by "investors". He paid a premium for that at times. And he had to deal with unions and "killers" that play their own game of leverage/control. I'd imagine he had to pay to play at times, idk.

Our corrupt "public servants" are taking bribes, trying to cover it up. They either demand payment to "unblock" some normal approval, or they accept bribes to do what is bad for America but good for the briber.

No, it's real. My wife has it.

It's overblown, though. There are lots of grains that don't have gluten and once you figure it out, it's pretty easy to life the lifestyle.

A classic gluten-free meal is steak and potato, green veg or salad.

The issue came up because Big Ag started "fortifying" foods with wheat protein. This created situations where things that didn't need wheat flour got it anyway as an additive.

If you're of Northern European stock, you take it in stride, as I do. The French and Germans are wonderful bread-eaters.

But people from other parts of the world can't always break it down. It's sort of like dairy. Again, northern Europeans live on the stuff because they have to. Others? Not so much.

    No kidding.

In my misspent youth, I recall the feeling of gnawing hunger I got in the third quarter of a football game, especially if it was a noon kickoff.

Early morning practice, then change, then report and rehearse leaves you having marched and played all day on an empty stomach. After the halftime show you get...an apple.

Than post-game show, march from the stadium.

Naturally I'd like to offer dinner menus to enhance the pain. Every game, I'd loudly ask "You know what would taste really good right now? A juicy steak."

I'd then describe the seasoning, cooking it to perfection, debate what kind of potato would go best with it whilst my fellow bandos shouted at me to shut up.

The sound of dozens of stomachs growling in unison is pretty impressive.

82 Me: but as with gluten intolerance it's fad not fact
A.H. Lloyd #60: No, it's real. My wife has it.

Yeah, sorry, on re-reading I realized I wasn't as clear as I might've been there.

Did not mean that gluten intolerance isn't real. Milady was analyzed as gluten-intolerant, as well. She became a superb non-gluten baker. (I just like it better. Let Joe Biden eat the gluey stuff.)

(I think of some folks' sensitivities as canaries in the coal mine. Too much of anything, added gluten, refined sugar, peanuts in everything, even if it doesn't trigger bad reactions may be wearing at one's systems in smaller ways.)

But lots of, I'd wager the vast majority of, gluten-free folks are just jumping on the fadwagon. Folks who mistakenly believe gluten-free is somehow healthier for you (celia aside).

Gluten-free is not more nutritional; it just doesn't have gluten.

Meat-substitute is not more nutritional; it just doesn't have meat.

    et many c.

You two come back Monday and tell AlexTheChick she can't keep her emotional support Raptor. Maybe UPS is still busy enough you'll have time to flee.

214 I doubt it. Levin has him on frequently and if he thought that was true he'd drop him faster than he'd do to an irritating caller. For example I think Ol' Yeller maxed out on Andy McCarthy giving DOJ turds the benefit of the doubt and just stopped having him on as far as I remember.
Posted by: Captain Hate at December 28, 2019 11:05 AM (y7DUB)

True, but remember, Levin's commitment is to the Constitution , not Trump. He was never the biggest Trump fan until they started going after him unfairly. He also realized his audience likes Trump, so he started pretending he was always a supporter.
    It helps sell books.

217 I think that DiGenovas constitutional analysis is aligned with Levin.

But he is not cynical enough for someone who has been in DC as long as he has. I remember when he and his wife were talking about how Clinton would resign because he was obviously lying about Lewinsky.

218 I have not worked out in 7 days. Feel like shit. Still sad over my uncle dying. Mostly sad for my Mom losing youngest (baby) brother.

    221 lefty completely misinterpretes 1984:

"it's looking increasingly like we live in Oceania. That fictional state was basically the British Isles, North America, and South America. Now the leaders of the largest countries in each of those regions - Boris Johnson, Donald Trump, Jair Bolsonaro - are men who have learned to flood the zone with obvious lies, because their opponents simply don't have the time or energy to deal them all"

He seems to live in a rural area. I'd say, let him keep it, as long as it gets neutered, and that it is understood that if it gets loose and attacks pets or livestock, it's curtains for the critter.

The worst prediction by those two was that the mumbling chinless shitstain, Eric Stedman Holder, would be a good Attorney General. Even Jon Cornyn wasn't that fucking dumb.

Might be too late, but try setting it in rice overnite to draw out the moisture. Since you've already turned it on, that may not work, but worth a try if you like thst phone
