But it's cute.

Posted by: jsg at December 25, 2019 03:04 PM (Wi5hO)

15 True fact: The "X" in "Xmas" actually stands for the name of Christ spelled with Greek letters -- XRISTOS -- and is a "Chi," not an "X," Thus is is very respectful and quite religious write "Xmas," and not some sort of secularized way to avoid writing the "Christ" part of "Christmas."

If more SJWs knew this fact, they would have the sadz, because the only route they had to avoid referring to Christ when writing the word Christmas has now been taken away from them.

Eh.

That's the equivalent of writing Cmas in English.

23 Merry Christmas, Horde! And to Ace and all the Cobs, too, of course.

I am viewing the HQ on an old HP laptop with Linux Mint, and using Firefox. Connected to wifi at my cousin's house. Man! I have been spoiled by using Brave on my desktops. The main page takes forever to load, thanks to the damned ads. I don't think I can put Brave on this laptop because it is a 32-bit build of Linux, and Brave only works on 64-bit.

I should probably see if I can upgrade to 64-bit in this laptop.

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 25, 2019 03:14 PM (IQGil)

24 Of course, the real truth is that there is ZERO mention of the date of Jesus's birth in the Bible, and the tradition of celebrating it on December 25th is merely a folk custom, not based on the Gospel. And it's almost certain that the folk custom was assigned the date of December 25th because the local pagans across Europe were already celebrating a variety of pre-existing Winter Solstice rituals (which varied from culture to culture -- Saturnalia in Rome, Yule in Scandinavia, Osiris day in Egypt, Sol Invictus day in various Roman military camps around Europe, etc. etc. etc.) The church authorities reasoned the simplest way to transition the locals to Christianity was to have its major holidays at the same time as existing holidays, so celebrating them wouldn't seem so alien. And it worked! But in the process, many of the original pagan customs got overlaid onto the Christian mass for that particular festival day.

114 Hey everybody. Merry Christmas. Still alive. :-)

I'm still seeing the doctor in 2 days, although I lost my day off from work. My co-worker threw a tantrum.

BUT... the boss gave me all of Monday and Tuesday off in exchange, so I guess I'll live. So at least I got a 5-day weekend out of the deal.

The Dilbert guy conveyed an interesting theory today from something he read.

The fraud law scholar, Noah Feldman, said the impeachment isn't official until the House "transmits" the Articles to the Senate to make the Senate believe they couldn't act until they get the Articles. BUT, in reality, the Senate can do whatever it likes, including holding a vote right now and dismissing the entire case, which is exactly what "professor" Feldman is trying to prevent with his peculiar remarks.

165 Merry Christmas BeckoningChasm and all the Horde.

My turkey gets to have a 3 day brine. I didn't think life was super hectic the last couple weeks but I totally forgot to get celery and onions for stuffing and taters to mash to go with the gravy. Decided I was not going to roast the turkey without the crucial sides. We'll have deer backstrap and some corn on the cob (frozen in husk this summer) I've been burning some tumble weeds along with paper and dead branches in our burn barrel the last couple days. More labor intensive than burnning the weeds in place but I don't have to worry about fire getting out of control.
