Yeah they could have used something to make everything clearer. I'm 4 episodes in and the most of the names/places are still just a blur. You do start to see the threads of a unifying story (or at least character arcs) in episodes 3 and 4.

Yeah, he's pitch perfect.
My only thing at this early point is that we have three distinct stories that don't seem to have anything to do with each other, and Yennifer's is really weird without much grounding. I have every confidence that it will all come together later in the season, but I can understand why someone who is completely unfamiliar with the universe (I have played through The Witcher 3 and that's it) would feel completely and utterly lost.

I think the GoT intro is secretly one of the most brilliant things done in TV in a while for just this reason. Not only do you have this hugely catchy song and a neat clockwork title sequence, but it shows you the world so you're not just completely lost as to where all the characters are.

Mr. MWR and I are planning to watch it, but we haven't gotten a chance yet since this past weekend was just too busy.
I do wonder how much the show might differ from the games, since the show is technically based on the book series that ALSO inspired the games. I don't expect it will vary too much, but I'm interested to find out.
I just love that Henry Cavill is a PC gamer himself. That just makes me grin.

There is a Theresa's Cafe in Stockbridge which says it's the former Alice's Restaurant. It's in a suitable alleyway and its facade is all overgrown with ivy.
I just went to find the picture so I could remember its name and you can barely read the sign for the ivy. It was closed when I was there, though, so no report.

Does anyone actually call it the greatest painting in the world?
I imagine serious art critics wouldn't do that. They'd probably eschew any labels like that for anything.
I mean, it's a quality work that demonstrates great talent from the artist, but it is just a portrait of an anonymous woman.
It seems to me that it's really just the most recognizable painting in the world (which is why they burn it instead of anything else at the beginning of the movie Equilibrium). That it became that doesn't necessarily mean that anyone thinks it's the greatest.

This kinda got started over in THE gun thread, but I saw it carry through to JJ's.
I keep reading that "NRA didn't do this in X state" and thus they are worthless.
I think that this is wrong. For example, I saw someone write that "NRA" did nothing about I-1639 in Washington State.
Well, nothing, if you don't count the lawsuit that the NRA has in Federal court seeking to have it overturned.
Like I said in the gun thread, this is a combined arms team. If you aren't aware of what the NRA is doing, then maybe that is on them, but maybe it is on you.
I am an NRA member, and yes, I was disappointed by the leadership brouhaha, but we shouldn't throw them overboard, we need everyone in this fight.

Was just reading that the original Alice opened her restaurant most likely in Massachusetts, where she was from and still is from.
The Skyline Alice's is a great stop in the redwoods for motorcyclists who are bombing along Skyline, and bicyclists who have just made it to the top of 84 or La Honda.

Very very meh about the whole thing. Said it wasn't awful like "TLJ". Had a few good parts, but overall kinda boring.
His friends were of the same opinion.
The BO will probably dive next weekend.

Consensus I've seen is that regardless of how you felt about TLJ, the trilogy would have been a whole lot better with a single unified direction. The way the plot swerved from TFA to TLJ to ROS was just way too erratic.
I actually liked a lot about TLJ, and I think I'd have preferred both worlds where we got either JJ or Rian Johnson to direct the entire trilogy than the one we got where they fought creatively about so much.

Back when they came out with the prequels, I went to the first one out of enthusiasm and the second one out of obligation. That's the last Star Wars movie I saw. Have no desire or intention to watch the ones I've missed.

I did go to Bed, Bath and Beyond and buy a cute doggie coat for my sister's pup. We always meet in Atlanta the day after Christmas for lunch as we're heading home, and give her gifts. She just informed me she'll be in the mountains with friends for Christmas, and won't be seeing us.

Yep, but they warned that would happen days ago, because tides are kind of predictable. My area doesn't flood but the neighborhoods around me do. Seems like the show is going to follow the books. The games all take place after the books end so there really won't be much conflict between them. For instance the first episode is about how Geralt gets one of his nicknames, The Butcher of Blavikan. And also A story that gets referenced in The Blood and Wine expansion.
As a side note it seems that this week the author and CD Projekt Red have come to terms on their disagreement and are all buddies now so that is good news on potential future games.

By the way, if you're ever in Savannah, make a trip to Wilmington Island, just a few minutes from downtown, and visit Savannah Bee Company's headquarters. You can make reservations for a tour of their hives adjacent to the store. They actually book up in advance.

Around that time, Gilbert Stuart emerged as THE preeminent American portraitist. (Famous painting of Washington is one of his works.) He became an important part of Americans having their own identity, even if it is merely rich Americans spending money on getting their portrait done.
Comparing Gainsborough vs Stuart is kind of fun.
