The Quotes Of The Day

Quote I

An honest man can feel no pleasure in the exercise of power over his fellow citizens.Thomas Jefferson

Quote II

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 KJV

Quote III

"These were never good jobs. No one has ever suggested that, even freelancers."Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego)

Quote IV

“Single-family housing zones would become two-zoned. Areas that would be impacted most would be the suburbs that have not done their part in helping out.”House Delegate Ibraheem Samirah, a Democrat

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is a thin skin little prick. Talk about taking your ball and going home.

Man-child Andrew Cuomo throws hissy fit to prevent Trump-appointed federal judges from officiating at weddings

Cuomo: “I cannot in good conscience support legislation that would authorize such actions by federal judges who are appointed by this federal administration”

As the story goes, Once upon a time MTV was alright to watch.

Former MTV Veejay Martha Quinn is now a deejay and blogger for iHeart80s. On Friday, she posted a bunch of holiday videos from her MTV days, including this gem that reunites the Monkees for a weird medley from Christmas Eve 1986. She writes:

This Monkees video is historic for Monkees fans as it reunited Monkee Mike Nesmith with Monkees Peter Tork, Davy Jones and Micky Dolenz

Verónica Duque is a teacher who thinks outside of the box and teaches that way.

Do you remember that one teacher? The one who cared? The one who always tried? Verónica Duque is that teacher. Recently, the 43-year-old decided to engage her students on a higher level and gave a class on anatomy in a full-body suit that mapped out the human body in great detail.

“I’ve been teaching for 15 years now,” Verónica told Bored Panda. “I teach natural and social science, art, as well as English and Spanish.”

Currently, Verónica teaches the third grade and is constantly looking for ideas on how to make the lessons more interesting. “I was surfing the internet when an ad of an AliExpress swimsuit popped up. Knowing how hard it is for kids this young to visualize the disposition of internal organs, I thought it was worth it giving it a try.”

Those pesky Russians. Disgruntled or unique prank?

Recently we highlighted a company that restores vintage Mercedes-Benz Geländewagens and delivers them flat-packed in a care package dropped from a helicopter. Meanwhile in Russia, a man supposedly fed up with with his constantly broken G-Wagen skipped the whole restoration and parachute part and straight dropped it from 1,000 feet to teach...someone a lesson. The car? The dealer? Mercedes-Benz? We may never know.

Russian vlogger Igor Moroz explained in a video uploaded to his YouTube channel last Thursday that he purchased a used Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG for roughly $200,000 in March of 2018. Since then, the iconic SUV has had continuous maintenance issues and needed near-monthly repairs. Rather than sell it and move on, he decided to exact revenge on the Mercedes by dropping it from a helicopter.

Good guy vs. Bad guys. Home defense, what's your preference?

It’s a never-ending debate. The question: what’s the best firearm for home defense?

Some like a pistol‘s one-handed maneuverability that lets you corral family members to safety or otherwise frees your off hand to use a flashlight, dial 911, whatever. Some like a carbine‘s combination of power and accuracy. A third group touts the shotgun‘s devastating effect at self defense distances.

What happened earlier today in Houston is going to give the shotgun advocates some serious talking points to use in future arguments.

At about 9:30 this morning, three males entered a home in the Channelview area east of Houston. Two people were inside the home at the time.

Handing out Christmas candy pot. Genius Award Winner.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WGHP) -- Police said they arrested a man Saturday for handing out marijuana “because it was Christmas.”

The Pinellas County arrest report says Richard Ellis Spurrier, 67, was confronted by police Saturday around 11 p.m.

Officers said Spurrier had 45 grams of marijuana on him and was handing it out to people as they passed by.

Spurrier reportedly told officers he was handing out the weed “because it was Christmas.”

Spurrier was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

Officers said they found a hidden sword in Spurrier’s cane when they arrested him.

There are a couple of feel good stories tonight.

Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day - Number 1

77-Year-Old Woman Who Delivers Papers For A Living Is Surprised With $5,000

The East Idaho News team is busy helping a local man gift $500,000 this holiday season. The man wants to remain anonymous and wants to help as many people as he can.

The news team has been surprising deserving people and families every day with gifts unique to their circumstances.

A young girl gets to celebrate Christmas. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day - Number 2

A 6-year-old girl who spent the last two years receiving treatment for leukemia will celebrate this Christmas cancer-free after ringing the bell last week to signify the end of her illness. Mia Preston, who was diagnosed after complaining of chest pains and nose bleeds, “kept calm and carried on,” despite the tough treatment plan, her father told SWNS.

“We don’t know how she managed to keep going, but she did,” Andy Preston, who told the news outlet that pains in his daughter’s legs were first dismissed as “some kind of virus,” said. “She really didn’t complain, she didn’t really cry – she asked why she was poorly, but we didn’t talk about the cancer too much.”

75 "Do you remember that one teacher? The one who cared? The one who always tried?"

Do I ever. Recent events have brought two to the fore of my thoughts and they compete, in my mind, at least, for who I should consider my best teacher. One is my senior English teacher, who did so much to bring about my writing style. He told the entire class not to write the way you talk, and not to talk the way you write. Maintain two different styles for both. That, and I knew I could talk to him about just about anything. Right before the end of senior year he said "I don't know what you are worried about; you have the reading ability for college, easily. Broaden your horizons."

Then there is my fourth grade teacher, who I maintain would simply have been shot today for half of what she did back in the 1980s. Having a personalized notepad on her desk featuring a quote from the Book of Psalms would be one problem in today's time. Her reading C.S. Lewis to us would be another. In her case, I still marvel at the fact that on the first day we were in the library as a class, and I was hanging out in the geography section and picking out the books I wanted to read, she walked right up to me, and asked me about the books, and why I was reading them. (And we discussed this. I was nine and thinking that this was weird because it just wasn't done.) Not even my parents did that, and no adult, much less a teacher, did that. Had she stopped right there, she would have been a favorite. But she didn't, and wound up encouraging some of my more intellectual obsessive devotions that I carry around to this day.

(My apologies to those who have heard all this before repeatedly, but it just happens to be at the forefront of thinking these days.)

Maybe because we have these winters here, I stock up. Cupboards and freezer are full. If there's a lot of snow, I can go quite a while without going to the grocery store. I even keep some powdered milk and at least one container of "shelf milk" for my coffee.
The shelf milk is this milk that's in a container similar to box wine. It's good for a few months.

The guy is one of the unopposed, from the recent takeover.

He SHOULD have been opposed, as he is Muslim Brotherhood spawn and a gross little activist extreme, who responds to being called out on any of the many things he does by crying "Islamophobia!!11!!!!"

I suspect he will be opposed next time: his district comprises the wealthy single-family suburbs of western Fairfax and eastern Loudoun, so he basically just pissed off his entire constituency, including the braindead NPCs who voted for him because there was a D next to his name.

"Single-family housing zones would become two-zoned. Areas that would be impacted most would be the suburbs that have not done their part in helping out. "House Delegate Ibraheem Samirah, a Democrat

----

His biography says he is Palestinian-American. In other words, Palestinian. Thieving little grifter.

Note how this parallels what his countrymen do back in the Middle East. Before Jews began to settle in Palestine, it was a forgotten backwater of the Ottoman Empire and hardly anybody lived there. His people were nomadic drifters. They started settling around the towns snd farms the Jewish settlers developed on the land they had purchased, and within a couple of generations had developed a bullshit narrative about the area being their ancestral home that the Jews stole from them.

Now he does what comes naturally and wants to work the same con on to steal what other people built with their own work and money. He claims they stole their own property and that he's fucking Robin Hood.

Lived in Indianapolis for several years. We built a house in a large subdivision. Our neighbors were teachers, physical therapists, air traffic controller, etc. Nice middle class neighborhood. Minimal crime. We sold our house as a large apartment complex was being built adjacent to our subdivision. Turned out to be section 8 housing which had been concealed initially. The crime rate soared and the neighborhood became much less desirable.

207 It's a basic Constitutional principle that the force of law dictates what the mixture of housing types must be. It's right there in Article "I'm A Conservative and You Aren't." The same law that guarantees your one-to-a-lot housing will later come along and guarantee stacks, or no lots at all.

The real fun is to watch owners of unsustainable ("can't pay for this") housing go before the boards and petition humbly for permission to subdivide into student slum housing. You practically can't make a slum without it.

Take a drive -- for God's sake, don't walk! -- through America's classic cut-to-shit neighborhoods, and you won't find evidence of Imam Slick, here, riding Whitey like a stallion in his fevered dream. What you have is about one generation of sharp operatin' developers squeezing one more set of mortgage payments out of "obsolete" housing stock, usually former upper-middle-class battleships with servant quarters and a ballroom that nobody with a sufficient income wants to live in anymore.

This will be happening with early-boomer All Face McMansions on "too big to mow, too small to plow" lots any moment now. Luckily a lot of them left enough lawn space to just roll another street in there, with a row of prefabs and used house trailers where the yard used to be. What you wrought. But at least... it will be ZONED!

https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/first-1911-pistol/

Buying your first 1911 pistol? Congratulations! It's great when someone has actual taste in firearms.

Just kidding. Many pistols are great, and the classic 1911 platform while it has its limitations is a proven and effective pistol for almost any application, from sport to personal defense and all points in between.

John Moses Browning's meisterwerk is still wildly popular to this day for a lot of very good reasons. With its slim design, it carries incredibly well. It feels good in most shooters hands and the single action only trigger is typically among the best you'll find in any handgun.

But what should you look for in your first 1911 pistol?

Well, that's actually a complicated question.

The absolute basics?.........................

Well, that's actually a complicated question.

The absolute basics?.........................

A rental.

One's first 1911 should be a rental, at the range.

Several rentals, in fact. Government Model, Commander, Lightweight Commander, Officer's Model.

Several different brands.

With and without memory bump grip safeties. With and without upswept beavertail grip safeties.

*THEN* ya might be able to decide on which oughta be your "First 1911".

257 I recently bought a Remington 1911 R1. Shot it for the first time and LOVED it. More accurate for me than my 9mm.

The only issue was the steel cased coated shells that would hang up and cause jams. I'll be buying brass rounds soon and trying again.

Shooting wise, it kicked no harder than my 9 and was very comfortable, accurate and a pleasure to shoot.

My $0.02, anyway.

So, giving junkies a free hand to shoot up, shit, and piss on the city sidewalks, didn't solve the homeless junkie problem in San Franshitco. Well, we're surprised California continues to have a homeless junkie problem when they made "It's Okay to Shit and Shoot Up in the Streets Newsom" the governor.
Yeah, take a mayor who turned a city into a literal shithole and make him governor.

Most of those homeless are junkies. If they contionue using, there is no hope for them. There are professionals who deal with addicts who have commented on this.

go to the XA sec state web pages and see what the minimum yearly charge is for having an LLC...

then peruse the VTB web page to see how much it will have to pay in taxes, above and beyond what they will want from your salary.

unless you're making LARGE bank from your gig, you'll go broke, which was the whole idea.

428 I didn't want much for Christmas.
My wife was able to convince our niece that the name brand item is the item I wanted.
Yes, I know that the other item is a little cheaper, but I want the name brand one. I know it's 5 dollars more, but that's the one I want. If you don't want to get me what I want for Christmas, then stop asking.

429 With the Christmas shopping season gone, I hope that the mens cologne TV ads go away soon. It seems like they are advertising for a fever dream

434 Morning, all. Happy St. Stephen's Day.

We had a lovely Christmas. Nice vigil Mass on the Eve, a round-trip to Dallas for lunch with husband's family. Got to see two of the kids, Face-time with another and say 'hi' to
the one who always does nuclear- family-only Christmas.

The book I ordered for his present didn't arrive, but his sister gave him a copy, so all was well. I got about 400 spring bulbs, so I need to get planting...

436 When will Virginia start a recall program? How many of those 'racist" suburbs that DC bureaucrats call home will be targetted for public housing?

437 The package delivery was cool and funny but all they had to do was walk on the grass. They would easily break through any surface ice and have good traction. *shrug*
