Charles Schumer: The House Totally Made a Convincing Case for Impeachment But Also We Totally Need to Call New Witnesses to Make the Case for Impeachment

But oh, by the way, we also don't want to hear from certain witnesses, like Hunter Biden.

From Epoch Times:

Schumer wrote to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) over the weekend, telling his counterpart he wants Mulvaney to testify, along with Robert Blair, a senior adviser to Mulvaney; former National Security Advisor John Bolton; and Michael Duffey, associate director for national security at the Office of Management and Budget.

....

Schumer said the Senate Democrats are open to hearing from additional witnesses, if they have direct knowledge of the Trump administration decisions that the opposition party is arguing constitute impeachable offenses.

Asked if he’d support calling some of the witnesses that Republicans want to testify, such as the person who filed the complaint against Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Schumer suggested he wouldn't.

If Schumer wants to hear from these witnesses, why doesn't he ask his fellow party hack Nancy Pelosi to call them, instead of insisting, impotently, that Mitch McConnell do what Nancy Pelosi refused to do?

Schumer was just on TV. In 1999, he adamantly refused any new witnesses, claiming they'd heard all they'd needed to hear from the House inquiry. Now he demands witnesses. He just claims the two situations are "completely opposite." Meaning they're trying to get someone of the opposite party.

He also babbled about why he needed new witnesses but why Trump's proposed witnesses -- such as Alexandria Chalupa and Hunter Biden -- must not be called. He claimed that anyone claiming anything at all about Ukraine is pushing "conspiracy theories," and he added, only Fusion GPS and Christopher Steele and CNN and MSNBC are permitted to do that.

Well he didn't say that. But it was heavily implied.

Byron York commented on the Democrats' "pre-trial trolling" strategy.

In coming weeks Senate Democrats will insist on hearing testimony House Democrats didn't even try to hear. Might be a tough argument to make. House has made its case. Time for Senate to judge.

Democratic pre-trial trolling strategy already clear. We need new witnesses! What does Mitch McConnell have to hide? What are they afraid of? New witnesses, new evidence. Americans deserve the whole story. (Except for 'distractions' like Hunter Biden or whistleblower.)

Schumer and other veteran Democrats will totally flip their positions from 1999. Their argument will be: It's OK because that was a Bad Impeachment and this is a Good Impeachment.

Meanwhile, mentally decrepit leftwing lawyer and deranged Trump Obsessive Lawrence Tribe is proposing... emergency bail-out procedures to just quit impeachment and stop the bleeding.

He wants the House to refuse to transmit the articles of impeachment to the Senate, blaming McConnell or something.

Sure sounds like these guys are trying to make excuses in advance and/or bail out of impeachment.

I wonder why.

Below, this gasbag's full press conference, and by "press conference," I mean his public conference with the press coordinating their mutual political strategy together.

Second, take the damn win, Chuck. The Rs are going to turf the thing and send it for a vote with no debate and no witnesses. You're safe. You corrupt government bastards are all safe with the "no witnesses at all" approach. It is the biggest gift the Rs have given you, probably in my lifetime.

For a while, I have always wondered why Mitch insisted that once the House impeaches, the Senate must have a trial - the way he said it. Now it makes sense.

McConnell saw through this potential strategy of the House getting impeachment without the downside of an acquittal a long time ago.

20 There was something on the last thread regarding CJ Roberts' role:

The Chief Justice is not in control of the process. This has been done twice in our history, the CJs only role is to apply the rules that the senate votes on. Even when the CJ acts, the senate can overrule him with a simple majority.

People are speculating that CJ Roberts can have a heavy hand. He can only do that if there are 51 (or 50 if you like) votes in the senate to back him up. This is NOT a regular courtroom.

I suspect he will be more of an observer than anything. But the lack of a lot of precedence means we don't have that much guidance. However, the more it looks like a "trial" - with witnesses by each side, length of trial, etc. - the more of a hand he will likely have.

1) Impeach Trump, did not matter what the charges were.

2) Once Impeachment began, they hoped to be able to dig up something truly incendiary (not really, but something that would catch the collective zeitgeist. Whisper campaign.

3) Schumer still seems to be trying to go for the toss enough salad, some tasty bit will come to the surface.

49 The Republicans will rightly be accused of cuckery if they make rules any more bipartisan than Adam Schiff did. It is the clearest sign that not only have they learned nothing from the age of Trump, but they have as much to lose as the Dems.

If only there was a department dealing in justice, that answered to the President. Ah well, Trump is winning anyways. Why put that at risk to hear the Bidens tell lies that no one will call them on, much less lies that will result in their arrest?

So, Schumer's demands are:

1.) Dems are allowed to call any witnesses they please, including ones which haven't yet appeared in House proceedings, effectively denying Republicans the equivalent of "discovery," but...

2.) Democrats will also decide which witnesses Republicans are allowed to call.

The Senate GOP of the past would unquestionably accede to these demands. I hope in this case that they understand folding like a cheap suit and pissing themselves in the corner will not bode well for them next year.

If they permit this, they're finished.

57 38. That is not correct. The senate decides who testifies, and how long, and through what manner. The CJ does not decide any of that, unless he is the tie breaking vote.

Issues such as who is a relevant witness (usually decided by a judge) is decided "solely" by the senate, as the federal rules of criminal/civil procedure to not apply unless the senate makes them part of their rules.

But that might, just might, give those red state dems enough "independent" cred to squeak by in 2020 if Pelosi leans on some of the donor class to shut of the money spigot to the hard left (I doubt she'd be all that successful). I don't think they will. I suspect they will go with the friendliest approach to all of the corrupt Washington critters: No trial at all. Just open the trial, call no witnesses, conclude proceedings and vote.

Impeachment fails, the Dems get to claim injustice in the Senate, the Rs get to bleat about the railroading in the House, no one's dirty laundry gets aired on either side and the Dem campaigns are uninterrupted.

It's a win/win for the state, and a loser for the people. It would be a cynical and self-serving way to proceed.

Pelosi's courting of Cortez et. al. has put them between fire and flood: Impeach and you placate the hard left but hang a target on the back of practically every Dem in Trump districts. Fail to impeach (because red state dems killed it) and the hard left will absolutely lose their shit and go scorched earth on any dem to the right of Stalin. But that might, just might, give those red state dems enough "independent" cred to squeak by in 2020 if Pelosi leans on some of the donor class to shut of the money spigot to the hard left (I doubt she'd be all that successful). Would enough remain to keep the majority? I'm not optimistic for the dems.

I find it hard to believe that there would be enough organizational ability and enough time to put together a bunch of primary challenges now, especially if the establishment is going to have the red district Democrats' backs.

I think most wouldn't see challengers manifest. Out of those that did manifest, most would be jokes. Out of those that weren't jokes, the Establishment could put forward the kind of message and money that would appeal to Democrats in red districts that let them keep the nomination.

Hell, even if the red district Democrats end up losing to Republicans, at least they wouldn't be adding to the Squad.

I am saying the CJ is not automatically empowered as a judge normally is, as the trial is. A1,S2 gives the senate exclusive authority.

This means that pre-existing laws, such as our very familiar Federal Rules of Evidence, do not automatically apply unless the senate incorporates them into the rules. And they can overrule the CJ with enough votes (should they have them).

Per my understanding:

* Flynn's lawyers wanted to compel the turnover of what they think is exculpatory material.
* The State said, "Nah, bro, ain't gonna do it."
* The judge said, "Sounds good, State" and then set a sentencing date.

Chuck Schumer, after being out of the TV cameras for a while, now speaks up.

This entire foolish charade was a set up by his Deep State tool in the house, Adam Schiff. Schiff ignored not only the basic tenants of the US Constitution, but of the Magna Carta.

The word you are looking for is "scam".

It reminds me of a losing NFL team with bad running backs. One starts, fumbles the ball a few times, and is benched. Then, the next running back comes in, looks ok for a couple of games, then starts fumbling.

This continues again and again, until all the running backs have proven themselves incompetent.

So, the coach starts the loser Schumer again. Who immediately fumbles in his next start.

This is why we are seeing Schumer on the TV talk shows again, Progda has run through their entire bench, and Schumer seems a better choice in comparison.

On the Sunday shows, Schumer fumbled the ball once again.

228 Mentioned before, but Bloomberg and Steyer are both buying shedloads of California TV ads. One interesting difference: Bloomberg is *playing down* how much of a Commiecrat he is, focusing upon his business acumen and how he can work with all sorts of people. Steyer is playing up his Demunist aspects, boasting about how he hates the NRA and how he "will work to promote people of color" -- literally, those very leftist buzzwords in his TV spots.

240 Basic questions for Schumer (which should be asked by any half aware 'journolist")

1. if they are so important, why didn't you call these witnesses yourself?

2. Did you put any restrictions of the Republicans ability to call witnesses or question them and if so, was that a fair exercise of the majority power?

3. if yes, why can't the senate majority also exercise similar fights and abilities?

4. Which of your "impeachment" witnesses had personal knowledge of the July phone call that is at the center of your impeachment charges?

5. What law protects the fake whisteblower from testifying about his personal knowledge of that phone call?

6. What law protects Senator Biden and Hunter Biden from testifying regarding defenses raised to impeachment?

7. What law protects Adam Shiff from testifying?

From what I've seen it's an alt-right thing. Basically some lefties on Twitter went full retard over No Nut November, and the alt-right folks are pushing back. The left seems very very insistent on porn being freely available and on young men being obsessed with masturbation. The alt-right is pointing out how stupid and destructive it is to young men, and also using it to illustrate the hypocrisy and incompetence of the establishment right, who talk about the importance of society but won't lift a finger to protect it.

This is the problem. The frame changes the instant a new power, agency, administration, force, etc. is signed into law. The world *before* that new thing, or any contemporary or future world *without* that new thing becomes impossible to consider - at least for anyone within the system.

The correct answer isn't "reform" and it isn't "more accountability." The correct answer is "Being as generous as we can possibly be, this was a terribly bad idea. The only reasonable move is to dismantle it altogether and throw it on the ash heap. It is broken. It had no choice but to be broken. We were wrong to think that it wouldn't be broken. If you think you are fit to make everyone's decisions for them in an attempt to save their souls, you neither achieve that goal, nor your own salvation, as you have succumbed to a different sin - pride.

Yes. FISA is not the problem. FISA is symptomatic of the problem.

It starts with "we can get away with it" (e.g., FISA, Patriot, the very existence of the DHS, etc., etc. etc. throughout history) and then immediately is a part of how it always was.

There are a lot of power abusers and vicious, evil bastards in government. It is probably a majority and might be an overwhelming, near-total majority.

But everyone in government, even if they're trying (apparently, anyway) to do the "right thing" fails to see that the "right thing" might involve dismantlement, I think because they cannot comprehend that such a thing is possible or than any other world could be.

469 I accept most of the criticisms of porn, including some feminist ones (stopped clocks and all that). But I can't agree with government prosecutions. 1. It's a poor expenditure of limited law-enforcement funds. 2. With modern-day electronics, amateur porn is so easy and prevalent that going after the professionals won't really dampen the supply. 3. Given the anti-First Amendment culture that is developing in some quarters, I'm not for rolling back rights in that area of the law in any context, because it'll be cited as precedent for the next limitation. 4. I find what-about-the-children arguments unpersuasive; it's the parents' job to see to their children's wellbeing, rather than demanding that society be child-proofed.

++++++++++++++
I despise this bifurcated adulthood we have legally.

The vote - that is, a full member of society - should be tied to everything else (well, vice-versa).

If you want to have a vote, you have to be an adult. If you want to give someone the vote, they have to be adults - full adults.

If you can vote, you have to have all of the rights and responsibilities of adulthood. Right now, that doesn't happen until 21. The voting age should be 21.

Do they want it to be 16? Okay. So long as:
1) Public school has finished for most by that time.
2) That group registers for Selective Service and can perform military service.
3) They can buy firearms of any kind (including pistols).
4) They can gamble where it is legal.
5) They can drink alcohol legally.
6) They can enter into contracts and own property on their own.
7) They are tried as adults for crimes.
Etc.
9) Etc.

This "you can vote but don't have the full rights of a citizen" crap is humiliating for both the individual (who is denied those same full rights of citizenship) and for the polity in general (who has people who are unworthy of the full rights of citizenship voting).

He's fighting back all the way, says he's completely innocent.
They better not pull him off of Greg Gutfeld's show.
They should quit wasting time investigating Tyrus, and drill down on who in management thought it was a good idea to sign off on hiring Britt McHenry, and why. She was already famous for hurling a torrent of abuse at a towing company employee while she was working at ESPN, and then when ESPN declined to renew her contract, she ran around telling the media that she'd been let go because she was white. That's basically like having "Do Not Hire" tattooed on your forehead, and yet somebody at Fox had some reason to hire her. Gotta wonder what kind of "favors" she'd provided and tucked away incriminating evidence of?
