THE QUOTES OF THE DAY

Quote I

This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We’re gonna press on, and we’re gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he’s gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse. — Clark W. Griswold Jr.

Quote II

"It was a perfect conversation. Absolutely perfect. I was simply talking to little Billy and asked him to keep tabs on his sister, Sally, who has been involved in some corruption. Who doesn't want to stop corruption? Did I offer Billy a new Nintendo Switch in exchange for his good behavior? Possibly. Am I planning on giving Sally coal because she's a little punk? Maybe. Where's my lawyer?"Santa Claus

I seem to remember a movie called "Prancer" which was sort of good. And a TV movie with Ed Asner and Maureen Stapleton which hasn't held up as well, but I liked it at the time.

It was about a man who knew that he wasn't going to see another Christmas, and wanted all of his kids to be together one last time.

Kind of brings it home for me this year, since I know that this will be my last Christmas with my Mom (maybe my Dad, too, just due to his age).

277 In regards to Zola and their ads, last time I checked, television stations aren't obligated to contract with ANY company for advertising.

And I am so FUCKING tired of seeing lesbians in my living room (and if you know that I do NOT use the f-word, you might have an idea just how upset this makes me) every time I turn on my television set.

And my late daughter was a lesbian (who I always wanted to see in my living room)!

Lesbians are even rarer in the wild (by a ratio of around 3:1) than gay men - how about some proportionality in entertainment offerings?

288 Hallmark has been rabidly anti-gun for at least 20 years now.

Every other degenerative trope follows from that one primary stance.

And I don't mean the gay as being the "degenerate" of whence I speak.

I mean the absolute Maoist practice of forcibly demanding that a society bend to it's whims, no matter what.

Go ahead and replace "gay" with *any* leftist stance, and the response from the Hallmarks of the world will be exactly the same:

Submit, or die.

That's their bottom line.

Rule .303 is mine.

Yeah, but here's the thing: gays (men especially) have a lot of disposable income because they don't have kids. Or wives. Or ex wives. So the wokecorps figure they'll get their greedy little hangs on that lifetime of gaybucks and live happily ever after.

A few years ago, a fundamentalist Christian church opened in Portland that thought that homosexuality was a sin, and received extensive, disapproving news coverage.

The imam of the biggest mosque in Portland called for the execution of homosexuals in an interview, and crickets. 406 An odd season for me this year.
A week ago I pulled a book from my shelf to check on some geology thing. A note from Karen, my late partner was in there.
She's been gone 5 1/2 years and I burst into tears.
I'm in a newish relationship. She knows all about Karen and understands my mourning her loss. It made for a tough week. Had laser tag in my eye Thursday to break up a membrane that had formed behind the new lens that had been transplanted with cataract surgery. Bright lights and disoriented all weekend.
Drinking bourbon tonight and enjoying a good cigar with friends here.
Crazy times for me.

Mandarin oranges/tangerines used to always be a Christmastime treat where I grew up. Grown in Japan, they came in little pinewood crates, and all wrapped in green paper. And yes, we'd get one in the stocking, but we had been enjoying them for several weeks by then.

Systemantics:

They promise to do a hard job faster, better, and more easily than you could do it by yourself. But if you set up a system, you are likely to find your time and effort now being consumed in the care and feeding of the system itself. New problems are created by its very presence. Once set up, it won't go away, it grows and encroaches. It begins to do strange and wonderful things. Breaks down in ways you never thought possible. It kicks back, gets in the way, and opposes its own proper function. Your own perspective becomes distorted by being in the system. You become anxious and push on it to make it work. Eventually you come to believe that the misbegotten product it so grudgingly delivers is what you really wanted all the time. At that point encroachment has become complete... you have become absorbed...you are now a systems person!

521 Just finished the second draft of my novel. Literally like an hour ago.

First draft took several months. This took, well...about two years, give or take. It's over 200k words at this point.

It still needs a lot of work, but it feels like I reached a huge milestone, because I think this time I pretty much solved all the big problems that stymied me in the first draft. I think I finally found the story I wanted to tell and told it to my satisfaction. The first draft felt like a rough sketch where I just cheated my way around the parts where I didn't know what I was doing. This feels much closer to a finished painting. I just want to go through it a few more times and tweak and polish it until I feel like it's as good as I can make it.

At any rate, I think I learned a lot from the process.

I know there are some moron novelists out there. Any of you have any advice/insight about what comes next?

It turned out that the deed for our purchase had been misfiled with another property at the registrar of deeds office and that it actually was the other property In the mixup that was in distress. Needless to say, we pressed for a correction vigorously and often until the error was corrected.

549 well, i went to bed about 2300 local, hoping for a good night's sleep that was not to be.

my new soy allergy has struck again, this time in the form of two rather bland pastries i brought home for us Saturday.

we didn't get around to eating them until last night, and it has been an unpleasant day and worse night since i first lay down.

now i'm just hanging out, waiting to see if my guts are down being difficult.

i have GOT to remember that I can't eat *anything* that i haven't read an ingredients list for, and my ability to eat out just got even more restricted than my usual poverty does.

this shit sucks.

554 soy itself, soybean oil, soy flour, soy lecithin, *anything* soy.

they use the fould in hot dog buns, among other thing.

there's freaking soybean oil in tomato paste, of all things.

the local good gourmet burger place cooks their fries and onion rings in a combo canola/soy oil mix.

i'm afraid to eat doughnuts, because of soy possibly being in the mix, or being the oil they cooked them in.

i have contacted the restaurant we traditionally eat Christmas Eve dinner at, to inquire what menu items would be safe for me, besides the steak. as i pointed out to them, a baked potato with butter and sour cream ought to be safe, unless, of course, they wipe it down with soybean oil before the foil it up.
