AG Barr Blasts Media and Deep Staters -- and Criticizes Horowitz -- in Interview

This was an amazing statement from Barr. Barr ain't no c*c*, I'll tell you that.

A short clip is available at the above Fox link, but seriously, it's a great 20-25 minutes.

Attorney General Bill Bar is blasting the FBI's conduct during the Russia investigation, saying investigators relied on "flimsy" evidence in launching the probe and disputing key conclusions from Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report released Monday.

Horowitz was critical of the FBI for their practices in using the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to get a warrant to conduct surveillance of former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, but he concluded that the investigation itself was launched properly, without evidence of political bias.

“It’s hard to look at this stuff and not think that it was a gross abuse,” Barr said during a discussion Tuesday at a Wall Street Journal CEO Council forum in Washington. He referred to the investigation as a whole as a "travesty."

"Where I disagree with Mike, I just think this was very flimsy," he said about the basis for the investigation. The FBI cited comments by Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos to an Australian official as sparking concerns about the campaign's possible involvement with Russia. Barr dismissed this as "a comment made by a 28-year-old volunteer on a campaign in a bar."

Barr also pointed to the FBI’s failure to include key evidence in their FISA warrant applications that would have gone in Page’s favor.

"They withheld from the court all the exculpatory information," he said, calling the anti-Trump dossier used to bolster the warrant applications a "sham."

Read the whole thing; I can't excerpt it all. A short video at the link.

When it was pointed out that people were complaining that there had not been any arrests in this matter, Barr said, "Not yet." Though I don't think he was hinting about anything; I think he was being factual, and emphasizing they're not done with the investigation.

He also said, in an earlier interview with NBC, that he suspected the entire fake investigation was launched "in bad faith."

"I think our nation was turned on its head for three years based on a completely bogus narrative that was largely fanned and hyped by a completely irresponsible press," Barr said. "I think there were gross abuses …and inexplicable behavior that is intolerable in the FBI."

"I think that leaves open the possibility that there was bad faith."

In the Wall Street Journal interview, Barr also emphasized that Horowitz did not exonerate the Deep State at all; he merely found no documentary or testimonial evidence of an admission of bad faith or political bias. In other words, while the circumstances scream bad faith, no one admitted it in an interview and no one was foolish enough to write an email saying "We are mounting this investigation for purely political reasons, YOLO!"

Barr notes that that's all the IG can do -- he can't "draw conclusions," as Barr and Durham can, but can only report the verified facts he discovered.

And if -- without the fear of prosecution, and some taking deals to turn on the higher-ups -- none of the conspirators straight-up admitted the conspiracy to Horowitz, Horowitz was required to say "No evidence found."

But Barr emphasized: Barr or Durham are not so limited.

Full video below. Skip to 27:00 to get to the stuff about the illegal conspiracy. After that, the interviewer asks about antitrust investigations into the tech monopolies, if you're interested in that.

9 I understand the need for patience, and I've argued for it before.

However, I do not fault anyone for running out.

It'd be nice to see something concrete.

However, I can't imagine a better timing for indictments and arrests than after Democrats have nominated someone for president and settled on a message.

"Chaos reigns" will need to be the new Trump 2020 slogan.

409 "Shoot the hostages. Simplify the equation."

Posted by: illiniwek

---

There's a paper floating around somewhere penned by an active USMC Major suggesting just that (for warfighting only). This was put out during the Fallujah fighting. His theory being it is a major management problem for the bad guys to obtain, herd, and manage any group of hostages to protect BG movements or firing. His supposition was for US forces to shoot through a hostage protected movement on three separate occasions, with no concern for the hostages, and this would then result in the BGs never using them again as it only would then slow them down. PR considerations aside.

I only saw the paper once and then it disappeared. Along with his career most likely. I don't know how you would game this out but perhaps he was on to something.

$$$$$$$$$$$$

Care for and consideration of innocent hostages is a Western more. In the Mid-East, muzzy-scummistan to be precise, no such sensibilities exist. The hostages are irrelevant and represent nothing more than pawns to be sacrificed. Respect for human life is not a muzzy characteristic. Failure to recognize that basic fact can be suicidal when encountering those who worship the moon-god.

113 As many as six people may be dead -- including a police officer, two suspects and three civilians -- during an "ambush" active shooter situation at a bodega in Jersey City Tuesday afternoon, officials and law enforcement sources said.

. . . .

According to three senior law enforcement officials, the shoot-out began as a homicide investigation. The deceased officer approached suspects in that investigation and was shot and killed. The suspects then fled into the Jersey City Kosher Supermarket on Martin Luther King Drive, where the standoff started around 12:30 p.m.

ShareExpand
A law enforcement source said the suspects were holed up in a bodega for hours, one of whom was armed with a long gun.

Four other people were thought to be inside the bodega, the senior official said, stressing the highly preliminary nature of the evolving investigation. There were at least three civilians killed inside the store as well, a law enforcement source tells NBC New York.

But seriously, I direct my comments only against the premature doomcryers, i.e., the ones who are all like, "Waaah, Trump failed, the Deep State won and always will win, the fix is in, I told you so, why do we even bother???"

The point is, we don't know that. I am afraid of that, and I think there still is a high chance of that happening. But I also think it's rank foolishness to throw away the game before we've even played. Maybe Trump will be overwhelmed, but I see absolutely no benefit in treating that like a foregone conclusion, especially when Trump actually has managed to score more points on the board than we ever could have expected from any recent GOP candidate.

In other words, "business as usual" would imply pessimism, but Trump's record so far points to a reasonable possibility (NB: not certainty, but reasonable possibility) that we're not dealing with "business as usual".

In taking down the mob we're talking about the FBI, right? I remember their Boston office being owned by the Irish mob, run by the brother of the Speaker of the House (more powerful in MA than the Governor), and used against the Italian mob.

It took a long time to drain that swamp. Downside to this analogy is that even with four more years Trump won't be running things when it plays itself out.

But the fury and the sense of injustice is building up in this country and that is headed for a very awful, ugly place. The deadline isn't just Democrats winning or some date on the calendar. Its the point at which it finally triggers and people have had enough.

Something has to happen, something real, something obvious and understandable, before that point to let off some of the steam from the boiler. All the tough talk in the world doesn't make a bit of difference to that end.

Sometimes you need to pick the lesser evil.

A permanent administrative class has a strong tendency to become an aristocracy over time.

With the spoils system, corrupt scumbags are removed from office with each new Administration and replaced by amateur scumbags.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at December 10, 2019 04:41 PM (I2dne)

Sometimes you need to pick the lesser evil.

A permanent administrative class has a strong tendency to become an aristocracy over time.

With the spoils system, corrupt scumbags are removed from office with each new Administration and replaced by amateur scumbags.

Amateur bunglers are preferable to a class of white collar criminals that imagines itself as superior to the governed and having a right to rule.

Which is why impeachment support has been cratering, Trump's support has been rising, even in demographics that have not been friendly to the GOP - because the LIV's mindlessly swallow everything the media tells them.

And if that were true Trump would never have been elected, we all would have loved Lady Ghostbusters, would think Kaepernick was a great hero, and be flocking to see Soy Wars. Or perhaps a lot of people take a quick look at something, use experience and proclaim it BS, and not have to bore themselves to death with Shapiro's Facts Logic.

Would love to ever see the prosecutions. Of course no DC jury would
convict Obama holdovers no matter how strong the evidence. Maybe if the
case against the defendants is so ironclad that the judge can order the
jury to convict, and have that order survive appeal -- that's the only
way we get any satisfaction.

Flynn plead, due to threats to go after his family. Didn't matter, the FBI made up the evidence.

Cohen plead. Didn't matter that he plead to some made up campaign finance charge.

342 the i.g. report is being touted as exoneration of bias in the fbi, while horowitz only said he found no documentary evidence, as barr points out. but there's a huge problem. i think people expected this report to maybe show a few questionable acts by the fbi. there are something like 17 instances of misrepresentations in the fisa applications. even if there's only an implied bias, with that pattern of deliberate corrupt practices it amounts to a smoking gun.

"While we found no direct documentary confirmation and received no direct admission of bad faith or bias in these actions, their number, calculated nature, and significance leave little alternative explanation for them."

And yet many here don't apply this principle to the corrupt people under investigation.

I've always known it was going to take years not weeks or months. The difference is you have some emotional or other investment in this. I have none.

All evidence points to the democrats being incredibly, awe-inspiring, stupid. I mean who else but a border-line metal-deficient would advocate for socialism at this day and age? Or run around in a black ski mask smashing windows to fight fascism? Or claim that trump's lack of cooperation with congress is "obstruction"? Or that Islam is the religion of peace? or than men who say they are women are biologically women?

If I were in charge of the FBI, any employee that had a bumper sticker, sign, or t-shirt spouting any political slogan would be canned on the spot. No question - just fired. Want to tweet progressive political shit? Fine - you can't work for the FBI. not because we disagree, but because you are an obvious dumb ass.

imported Scottish tartans and fabric aren't cheap.

Had a neighbor once from Scotland who said there's a clan with my name there. That really really made me want a kilt with my fam's tartan. I looked for a long time and couldn't find one stateside.

And bluebell, B'Gal would be charging chicks to grab my kilted behind. And charging me a percentage.

FBI reports to DOJ. He has had the Horowitz report for a while. What did he ask Wray to do? The semiannual training? This doesn't need to wait for Durhams investigation in Italy and Australia. This is shit that happened in Washington.

Oh he said something at CEO lunch at WSJ. Fine. What did he do? He should be busy announcing the ways they will fix the FBI."

To that last point: the Democrats are notorious about establishing commissions to investigate fuck ups that happen on Republican watches. Hell, some of them even are justified. Has even one of our GOP grandees in the Senate even suggested a commission be appointed to review IC and FBI conduct and suggest reforms of these agencies? For the record, I think the FBI is beyond repair but still....no, they haven't suggested a commission. And that tells me the GOPe grandees are perfectly fine with the police state aspect of the government they ostensibly monitor and oversee.

618 Only takes 34 to block conviction. To impeach, Constitution requires 2/3rds of the Senate, and btw, quorum calls including sending the Sgt. at Arms to arrest members that refuse to show up so the whole stupid Dem talking pt. of those in attendance is shot to hell.

Look, most of the media folks have never read the Constitution, most legal commentators are not good lawyers who you would consult, and political strategists/communications folks can only robotically repeat talking points. The most likely outcome if the Dems actually impeach is that the Senate has a short trial and fails to convict on both counts. Dems were trying to get the Mueller goodies using this process as a prying lever in the courts but are stuck in the usual slow pace of court rulings and appeals.
