Democrats Unveil Two Frivolous, Focus-Grouped Articles of Fake Impeachment

David French hardest hit. She was holding out for a million. One for every tear Trump has made her cry!

House Democrats on Tuesday introduced two articles of impeachment against President Trump alleging abuse of power and obstruction of Congress regarding his interactions with Ukraine, touching off a rapid-fire sequence that could result in a momentous floor vote in a matter of days.

"The framers of the Constitution prescribed a clear remedy for presidents who so violate their oath of office," said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y. "No one, not even the president, is above the law."

His office later posted text of the articles, which declare Trump's actions warrant impeachment, trial and removal from office.

The White House swiftly hit back, accusing Democrats of using the Ukraine issue as an excuse for "this partisan, gratuitous, and pathetic attempt to overthrow the Trump Administration and the results of the 2016 election."

...

"He has given us no choice," Schiff said of Trump. "To do nothing would make ourselves complicit in the president's abuse of his high office."

Trump fired back minutes later, blasting the entire inquiry as a "WITCH HUNT!" -- the same term he used for the Russia investigation.
...

White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham slammed the announcement as part of Democrats' bid to "overturn the votes" of 63 million Americans who supported Trump in 2016.

...

While Republicans have blasted the process as partisan, dubbing it the "focus group impeachment" in response to reports that Democrats tested different allegations with focus groups, Democrats are moving swiftly ahead of the holiday break.

The term the Democrats found tested best with focus groups -- "bribery" -- is absent from the articles of fake impeachment.

I guess it doesn't play in Peoria.

Oh, and as mentioned in the sidebar: CNN has a tearjerker report that James Comey's mother-in-law fears for his legal peril, because Trump calls him (accurately) a dirty cop.

Former FBI Director James Comey defended the FBI and ripped President Donald Trump's constant criticisms of the agency, detailing how worried they had made his family -- even convincing Comey's mother-in-law that he was going to jail.

The interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper on "Anderson Cooper 360" came the same days as the release of a highly anticipated report by the Justice Department's inspector general that established that the FBI properly opened its investigation into Russian interference during the 2016 election but said there were major errors in how the agency conducted the probe.

F*** your whore mother in law, Comey. You need to be someone's prison bitch.

2) OrangeManBad will get reelected in 2020.

So the Steele dossier was indeed the reason this was approved by a judge. More accurately, the fake Steele dossier that was known to have been paid for by Hillary.

And the big bang is that Comey has already set the stage to blame Obama on the whole thing. McCabe too. Obama knew all about the plan, both where the warrant on Page, and the Comey meeting with Trump to "notify" him about the Russian pee whores story in the Steele dossier.

This "notification" was then immediately reported as a fact by CNN later that day, after Comey's "all clear" call.

Yes. You see half the country believing you can impeach for nothing now. Just out of hate. There is no understanding whatsoever. The Senate may block it, yes, but that did not stop the Democrats from impeaching from whole cloth and voters believing it to be true.

Of course we could use it on Democrats. Doesn't mean it is not cheapened. The more it is used, the more it will feel cheap. It is supposed to be used only on rare occasions - and it should be bipartisan.

Party line impeachment is a cheap trick. Regardless of how the Senate eventually votes.

Impeachment has flipped the House before. It hasn't stopped them from using it again.

Admittedly Trump, if he engages a bottom up campaign --ie using those flipped Districts as his focus to turn things around--can probably do it.

Any idea that the ones who lost it will regain it is---fantastical thinking. Trump was pinned down by Mueller and trying to right a seriously screwed up national ship...he sort of thought that the RNC was doing its job re: keeping the House.
Paul Ryan gleefully aided an incompetent RNC and lost 40 seats.,...

Not always, but the situation needs to be very different.

A president who goes from winning election to being so utterly toxic to the American people within a couple of years. Far enough from the next election that the idea of waiting is something the American people can't abide.

However, with how partisanship functions (not just now, but pretty much since the beginning of the Republic) it takes a whole lot to convince one side that they've made a mistake on their own president.

253 237 You mean like the RNC punished the Dems in the 2018 election? The 40 seat flip from R to D punishment?

Admittedly Trump, if he engages a bottom up campaign --ie using those flipped Districts as his focus to turn things around--can probably do it.

Any idea that the ones who lost it will regain it is---fantastical thinking. Trump was pinned down by Mueller and trying to right a seriously screwed up national ship...he sort of thought that the RNC was doing its job re: keeping the House.
Paul Ryan gleefully aided an incompetent RNC and lost 40 seats.,...
Ergo Impeachement Theater--Which will be perpetual if the Dems hold the House in 2020.

317 Obstruction of justice seems to mean to democrats that the wrongly convicted isn't willing to tie his own noose at the subsequent hanging.

I must say it is bizarre that they are obsessed over this issue. they really do seem to think they are right here, yet from the outside looking in, their allegations seem bizarre and unhinged.

Even if Trump had withheld Ukrainian aid to force Ukraine to look into the Hunter Biden scandal...so? Are they claiming that the Hunter Biden/Burisma thing is not a scandal? Evan as the head of Brusima has fled the country and has a warrant for his arrest? It's just bizarre...

Which makes it obvious this was political theater the whole time. And I'm 90% sure Pelosi ALSO knew this was not going to be popular with most independents and Obama->Trump voters in rust-belt states.

I really think this was a leash yank on her own caucus. I doubt it was even intended to harm Trump at all. The biggest clue will be if Pelosi manages to unwhip to the extent that it doesn't even get to the Senate.

Posted by: Bitter Clinger at December 10, 2019 12:40 PM (xxCXd)

Actually, no. There is no Legal Definition in Statute about Obstruction of Congress.

There is Obstruction of Justice, which ALL Fed Gov agencies (including Congress) are covered by.

And there is Contempt of Congress, which happens when Congress subpoenas you and you don't respond or answer their questions.

But this has not been really litigated against the Executive Branch Executive Privilege.

So, to recap, there is no Law against Obstruction of Congress, and there is no Law about Abuse of Power.

So I see no Crime nor Misdemeanor, high or otherwise here.

I do not know stats very well, but I would guess that getting anywhere from 50-60 votes for removal is a very low probability since so many of these critters will vote their own reelection interest first.

Posted by: blaster at December 10, 2019 12:53 PM (RVjrl)

Despite the Eeyore-ism here yesterday, that report was a huge deal. The IG found wrong-doing and actual fabrication of evidence by the FBI on applications for FISA warrants. It may not be a crime for those jackasses to lie to us but it very much is for them to lie to the courts.

After all these Russia stuff, after all this Ukraine stuff, after days and weeks and months and years or testimony and grandstanding and hysteria, they DROPPED the entire Ukraine/Russia issue and instead are impeaching him for "obstructing" their non-investigation that found nothing?

In what way did he obstruct anything? They control the House of Representatives. They are holding hearings. No one is stopping them. Anti-Trump partisans were given free reign to run rampant for two years, spying on him and harassing him and everyone involved with him in every possible way. Nothing was obstructed.

And..."abuse of power"? Are you f'ing kidding me? Obama completely rewrote the rulebook about how much executive power the president can wield, and went far beyond anything Trump is doing, on a daily basis for eight years.

There are only two presidents were went full-dictator more than Obama: Lincoln (declaring martial law, suspending civil liberties) and FDR (increasing the power and control of the federal government a hundred-fold during his tenure in countless ways). Trump is a mere amateur compared to those three, when it comes to "abusing" his presidential power.

I predict this will spell absolute disaster for the Dems next November.

The bigger scandal is what they did to Manafort.

He was on the Trump team, and a couple of Ukrainians released a 'black book' containing 'evidence' of illegal payments to him.

Note, the Black Book is so tainted they won't even use it in their own courts, but it was enough to force Manafort out of working on the campaign, AND was used as the pretext for Mueller to reopen the investigation on him, until they found SOMETHING he did (supposedly lied on a Loan Application).

There is TAPE where one of the Ukrainians ADMITS they did it to help Hillary.

It very well could in the House. Less impact in the Senate. No impact on the Presidential vote.

If anything will move votes on Trump, it'll be 1.) if the economy remains strong, and 2.) the general insanity of the nominee's policy positions.

Trump voters will keep on liking him, Trump haters will keep on hating him, people in the middle won't be moved one way or another by impeachment - except for Trump-friendly Dems in the swing states, who may decide to punish their reps for it. But they'd vote Trump anyway.

I think we've about hit the wall on how people feel about Trump himself.

Now that we are in a new SJW Puritan era, Stern is above all the stuff that made him ridiculously wealthy.

I think the Horror-witless report actually helps Flynn and hurts the prosecution, just as it helps probable defendants of Durham. 548
The biggest problem with the IG report, as I see it, is this... people say the report shows terrible things happening in the FBI and DoJ re: FISA.

So, let's say that the rumors we hear about big prosecutions from Durham/Barr are true, unlike the ones we heard about criminal referrals in the report?

Then any of the case they plan/ned to make against the coup conspirators that was based on FISA abuse will be seriously compromised - the defense attorneys will make a strong case that the AG's case was already investigated by his own IG, who found nothing criminal in anyone's conduct.

And that'll play with a lot of the public, who will see it as a politically-motivated vengeance prosecution.

There's not really anyway to make a purse out of this pig's ear. It was a loss for people who want to see justice, Hannity's breathless reportage notwithstanding.

Now, I did read that the Dems aren't using the whip to urge a win on impeachment, so are they angling to lose that and switch to some censure vote? Maybe, but that should enrage their lefty wing and TDS wings. I don't see how they back out of this debacle without having the blame fall not on the extremists, but on the establishment wing itself.

603 ===========

The irony for me is that I think impeachment needs to be used more frequently.

Imagine an FDR presidency where impeachment was a viable tool Congress could use instead of that thing they tried against Johnson and failed.

Congress should pull more strings against the presidency in general.
Posted by: TheJamesMadison, Strong with the Force Schwartz at December 10, 2019 12:34 PM (zZbCU)

Congress used to have plenty of angles - funding, ability to declare war and ratify treaties, confim appointees.

They gave up most of them out of laziness or fear in exchange for simple continuing resolutions, black budgets and departments making law.

604 The IG Report is devastating for the Dems. Sorry, Eeyores. Horowitz nailed down the process of evasion, obfuscation, and outright fabrication conducted by the country's top law enforcement agency and the DOJ. He declined to pursue the motive(s) of the individuals named in the report, but the blatant acts of flouting established rules and regulations (which were in place as required safeguards in the FISA act) are listed in detail for all to see.

605 Sure, the FBI broke some federal laws, lied to judges, and bent the truth a bit for a high profile nationally important case, but I'm sure they are strictly by-the-book and on the level when investigating the average black-man.

606 And a full trial ties down three? senators who should be out on the campaign trail.

Three senators who are doing exactly what they accuse the president of doing

607 "Obstruction of Justice? Yes,
Contempt of Congress? Yes,
But they are accusing him of breaking a law that does not even exist." Posted by Don Q

that is the gimmick Sidney Powell says Weissmann used to get a conviction (that also destroyed Arthur Anderson) that was later overturned 9-0 by SCOTUS (iirc).

He pieced together a bit of one law, a bit of another law ... makes it seem legit, till it gets to a higher court ... but this License to Lie is all the Kabuki theater players care about ... it is a PsyOp to Obstruct POTUS, not by legal means or argument, but by fabricating a fake narrative. The Coup (Resistance) is truly illegal ... it is organized sedition, not one branch against another.

(separation of powers = branches obstructing each other)

617 Any idea that the ones who lost it will regain it is---fantastical thinking.
ONLY Trump can lead and succeed in getting the House back.
Posted by: Voter theater. at December 10, 2019 12:42 PM (mXoWE)

Trump knew what he had to do in 2018. Show the Rs that he could move individual races and get enough senators in to make impeachment an empty threat. The House didn't matter.

Now he has the unfiltered rallies going on like clockwork, and the GOP increasingly will use that to win the house back, plus Trump will have his coat tails. And the House has shown how worthless a Democratic led house is, even for liberals.

618 "29 Public cynicism grows, trust in the "justice system" continues to decline. The reputation of the FBI is in tatters. Good job Dems!"

Inadvertently, that's the BEST thing the Democrat have done. The grotesque visages of State and DoD officials, along with profound hatred of the IC and FBI, have torn a permanent rift between the citizenry and the Ruling Class. The Deep State's whore puppets like Comey, Brennan, Clapper, Yates, Powers, McCabe and Company have awakened a sleeping giant.

Who's going to support their next War for Dollars? Who will volunteer to fight it? Who will support the foreign and military aid they use for graft?

Nice work, boys and girls.

620 Flynn sentencing was postponed for Horowitz. This was posited as proof big news was coming.

What in Horowitz report is going to affect the Flynn case?
Posted by: blaster at December 10, 2019 12:53 PM (RVjrl)

Witholding exculpatory evidence on a massive level in FISA and elsewhere. Flynn's lawyer has evidence they did that to Flynn to get him to confess, and the FBI has been trying to brush it off as a big nothing that should be ignored.

That's the problem - I don't see the scenario where she blames it on the lefties, or even moderates. Schiff and Nadler are her cronies, not opponents.

If AOC was running this I could see it as an op to cut them off at the knees, but right now AOC and her ilk are the statemanlike ones.

Yeah Wilson was pretty much a tin pot dictator who took absolute power to wage WWI. He threw people in prison for daring to question the policy and outlawed teaching German as a language. The man was a menace whose evil we're still suffering under

626 Constitutionally speaking, the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial are on equal footing. Obstruction is not only possible, but is expected as part of the checks and balances. One could also try to charge those in Congress with obstruction of the executive branch and have just as valid of an argument.
