Saturday Morning Coffee Break

We interrupt this Coffee Break for breakfast.

IMG_3692 (1).jpg

H/T Legally Sufficient

***

Day 3 of the Thanksgiving Weekend. Here are a few things that didn't get much attention this past week here at the AoSHQ.

  • New K-9 dogs for police forces everywhere.

  • Some strange medical shit? Yup, it has to be China.

  • Fighting stigmas? Or sentencing innocent babies to a life of hell?

  • A condo with a view.

  • The perfect job for Jack Straw?

  • OK for your anal opening not so good for others.

  • What goes up must come down.

  • What have Boomers given us? Worthless Millennials.

  • It's nice when a father and son bond together.

  • If you are going to run with the big dogs make sure your place kicker perform the kick.

Now, let's have that cup of coffee.

    rise-shine-20160223-17.jpg

    Have a great weekend!!!

But, to my thinking, Mirengoff is blind to the larger, much more entrenched cult of personality/mythos surrounding Lincoln (that mostly developed after his tragic death) that he ascribes too, while noting the motes in others eyes. I think Secret Square has demonstrated/argued it pretty convincingly.

Okay, I'll take the approach that the accusation fails because ad hominem argument; he is just using "cult" as a hate word.

Other than loyalty toward the President, Trump supporters do not display any of the behaviors associated with "cults" in the usually accepted meaning of the word. No weird psychological recruitment strategies or manipulation of members is the main one, imho.

People are loyal to Trump because he is loyal to them and their interests.
People support Trump because of informed self interest, based on his proven success in improving their lives and maintaining the country.

75 Today's overwrought leftist letter from the NY Post:

American democracy is rapidly sinking into tyrannical rule. ("Presidential 'SEAL Order, Nov 26).

A man who never experienced the horrors of war because he successfully evaded the draft now sees fit to usurp the U.S, military code of justice and pardon convicted war criminals, Army 1st Lt. Clint Torrrance and Army Major Matthew Golsteyn, and reverse the demotion of Navy SEAL Edward Gallagher.

President Trump described the SEALS as Good men" sending an unmistakable message that indiscriminate killing by U.S. soldiers could continue with impunity.

What then stops the president from ordering war crimes abd then pardoning the perpetrators? Wake up, Republicans. Your leader has lost his sanity.

200 Hunter Biden is hoping to keep his financial situation under wraps as he responds to legal claims that hes cheated an ex-stripper out of support and health care costs for their baby, a report said.

Biden filed a request to seal all financial records in the paternity case in Arkansas this week, the Daily Mail reported.

Bidens lawyers argue that media organizations have been covering the case, and that the likelihood his personal financial records could be used in an inappropriate or malicious manner for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with these proceedings is exceedingly high and should not be tolerated by the court, according to the records obtained by the Mail.

I will also note that Gen Xers are probably the least cohesive age cohort out there, because the monoculture was breaking up as they came of age. The Gen Z kids are even worse in this respect, since some are Arch-Snowflakes while others grew up watching South Park.

    255 Speaking of Charlie's Angels...

This whole business of reboots reveals just how creatively bankrupt the "creative class" actually is.

The whole point of the original show was that TV was pretty boring, formulaic and there were only three networks, so how do you get decent ratings?

Detective shows were cheap to film and easy to write, so why not do one entirely cast with super-models? Everyone knew what it was, but it worked for a while. It was entirely a product of a specific time and situation.

Doing a send-up was fine, but this notion that somehow one is taking a brave stance by re-writing a schlock TV show is nonsense on stilts.

I for one look forward to the feminist take on Manimal.

322 There are obviously generations, but the term is used too expansively.

People born in a certain era are shaped by it. The problem is that people try to fine tidy lines ("before 1960") that simply don't fit.

But there are overlapping share experiences. Even though my classmates disagreed on politics, we could still be friends because that was the rule when we grew up. Politics wasn't your whole world.

There's also a divide between pre- and post-internet. Pre- and post-social media.

If you actually had to go to a library to look something up rather than pull it up on your phone, you will see things differently from someone who has never experienced a card catalog, knows that gas once commonly had lead into it and had to keep change on hand to use a pay phone.

    Comedy was equal-opportunity back then.

Tipper Gore got roasted by the left. Now, censorship is good and don't laugh, meanie.

I wonder how things will play out. Trump showed that these people can be beaten and also that they aren't coming from a place of good intentions.

That changes the game a lot.

For example, the old debate about gun control was whether it would lower crime rates. No one's really arguing that any more. It's a punitive measure, pure and simple.

Not a single state has repealed concealed carry because the "Gunfight at the OK Corral" scenario never actually happened.

But the same people are still working on it because it's a holy cause and they hate gun owners.

Again, not sure what comes next.

Similar. Dad is pre-boomer, War Baby to be exact. Mom was early Boomer.

Different mentality from later Boomers. Both are total liberals, but personally highly conservative in spending, also despite language about inclusion, rigidly adhere to conventional morality from their era.

I'm a reactionary, partly because I spent a lot of time with my grandparents. I reject the Sexual Revolution because it brought pain and divorce as far as the eye can see. Trying to shelter my kids from it by raising them to be guerilla fighters in hostile terrain. Too early to tell if it works, although all of them are fiercely right to life and know how to use firearms (appropriate to their ages, of course).

None of them were convicted of war crimes. Not a single one.

They were charged with "murder" in a combat zone. Murder. In a combat zone. Where they enemy refuses to wear uniforms.

The bomb-maker was known. No one has said he didn't make bombs. He just wasn't armed when he got whacked - you know, like lots of soldiers who are caught unawares. That's now murder.

The "crimes" were violating suicidal rules of engagement because losing wars with dignity is the Establishment ideal.

None of the people complaining would have shed a single tear of the roles in each of these cases were reversed and Americans had been shot, blown up or stabbed while helpless.

    So screw them.

My parents are late silent generation, I'm borderline boomer/gen X. Although I solidly test as a gen X. The "still some use" thing is a bit of a plague. I probably keep some stuff I shouldn't, but I'm a blend of MacGyver and the gilligan island professor, so I see materials to make shit out of, and I usually do. Guilty on the overflow rag bag, but between the car and harleys and other shit I do I go through rags like crazy. My brother in the other hand throws away anything that isn't nailed down if he hasn't used it in 6 months. Mom was a shopper. Dad, me, and my brother couldn't give a shit.
