"Intimidation and vilification of the press is now a global phenomena," Smith, who hosted the event, said before taking a veiled swipe at President Donald Trump. "We don't have to look far for evidence of that." "Our belief a decade ago that the online revolution would liberate us now seems a bit premature," Smith continued. "Autocrats have learned how to use those same online tools to shore up their power. They flood the world of information with garbage and lies masquerading as news… There's a phrase for that." "They dispatch troll armies after critical reporters, who are vilified and harassed. Their personal information -- such as phone numbers, address, ID numbers – posted and published as an invitation for even more attacks," he added.Hey, speaking of intimidation of the press -- the Epoch Times' printing press in Hong Kong was fire bombed three days ago, and until today, there were absolutely no major media stories about it. Only people like Ian Miles Chong and Sharyl Attkisson covered it. The media embargoed the story -- the same media that preens about the how imperiled journalists are.

How do you oppress a lying henchman? This isn't sarcastic. These are people who lie constantly in attempt to brainwash the public into an anti-American and, in at least a plurality of not an outright majority of cases, anti-human ideology. They do so while being paid. They do so while being defended by the state to the point that there are no consequences and, indeed, to the point that they are glorified. The problem the legacy media has is that they were basically venerated
in the past. I mean, yeah people didn't like them, but they had super special status. They could cross police lines, get into restricted and private areas, could do things that ordinary citizens could not simply by waving a press pass, and would get away with being obnoxious jerks because FIRST AMENDMENT BABY! They never should have. The Press was not intended to protect a "class". It was meant that anyone with the means to own a printing press could hang their printed materials, and thus their opinions, anywhere allowed by private citizens - or in the public square as long as not defacing public property - without fear of Government seizing their press. Never was it intended that "The Press" somehow were entitled to enter my yard. And they won't - they'll get told to fuck right off. Not much intimidation that I have seen - and I'm in "dark corners of the internet" or whatever. I have seen - and engaged in - a *ton* of vilification, though. And, I think, for very good reason. You see, Shep, maybe you should take a step back and consider the problem more abstractly. Ignore the fact that your rice bowl is involved for a moment. As yourself a single question: "If I learned that someone had been lying to me continuously and virtually without exception for more than a generation, how would I feel about that person?" You and your ilk have been lying to me and the rest of the public continuously and virtually without exception for more than a generation. I hold you in contempt. That it's any different is an abomination. And Constitutional protection wasn't a recognition of superior status or a reward for extraordinary virtue. It was purely practical: a free press was considered a useful tool for producing a maintaining a healthy republican society, and that's all. Once they stopped having that salutary effect and instead became harmful to society, they should have forfeited their privileges. But the Bill of Rights has taken on the aspect of the Ten Commandments, and can never be altered, so we have the 18th-century concept of "the press", which was individuals with printing presses, being arrogated by bought propagandists with the power to smother those individuals and ensure that nobody can publish their opinions. Like White Nationalism, the demand for militant Christians far exceeds the supply.
Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at November 22, 2019 06:07 PM (cfSRQ) --- Well he admits that we've "outgrown that inclination". So he's not really saying it's an exhibited concern. He is, however, slurring toward the idea that the "exclusionary" claim of Christianity is a factor in killing men for it. And it's not. Killing for Christianity is just one of the ways than Men adopt Christianity, as they try to convert traditional ways of Men into a Christian mode. Jesus never once said to put anybody to Death over it and the gospels are full of lauding convincing people of the Truth of Christ. There are a lot of dissemblers on this topic and a lot of bad argument. But the most robust meaning of the NT cannot be consistent with conquering in the Name of Christ. Nothing in Paul's writing suggests it (but the opposite), Nothing in Peter's letters, nothing in what Jesus says--except in a parable about a Ruler coming into his rule--which by Christian standards hasn't fully happened yet. It is triumphal Man that saw the glory in conquering other people to make them "servants of Christ". This is a Man thing. Posted by: Axeman at November 22, 2019 06:14 PM (DuZls) 271

The concept battery car they called a "Mustang" will not see the market. It's an SUV, fer chrissakes. It will test poorly and even the strong name of Mustang won't carry it. "Free press" is where the revolutionaries not being very good with words plays in. It was meant to be free in that it was not controlled by the government (which it is not) and would represent non-governmental criticisms of government policy so people could air their gripes about the way the government was doing things and correct it.
It wasn't mean to feel *free* to step on your rose bushes. I can't imagine any founder nodding to that. "Welp, they gotta' be free!" Nope. Not buying it. Posted by: Axeman at November 22, 2019 06:26 PM (DuZls) 345

I read a column many years that opined that Frank
Sinatra was the beginning of the decline of America. Before Sinatra the hero was an honest, hardworking Joe trying to do the right thing but Sinatra was a wise ass with an angle trying to shirk responsibility. Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Tyrannosaur Wrangler at November 22, 2019 06:23 PM (+y/Ru) This gets my attention. Sinatra never seemed like a guy that could kick your ass. He might know a guy that could kick your ass - like any politician. But Frank was kicking no ass. Dean and Sammy were funny - I'd buy the drinks to listen. But not "The Chairman". Sinatra never played well with me. And, from what I can tell, not all that great with my region of the country. He seems like a North-Eastern invention. Smarten me up. GM seems to want to be an all truck and SUV company, but it's just as well since those are their big sellers and their cars aren't moving off the lots in great numbers. Even police fleets are becoming mainly SUVs and crossovers. I'm not upset at a Mustang Mach E, I've seen electric sports cars with face ripping acceleration.
Of course a few of those 1/4 mile pedal stompers and the battery has to be recharged again. Electric motors pull mile long freight trains and push 120,000 ton cruise ships so they have more than enough torque. The trick is to have something on board to constantly charge the batteries. Like a diesel. Posted by: kbdabear at November 22, 2019 06:35 PM (qAR6u) 404

Sure - you THINK you're a guy that insists on a pulse and no gross physical deformities - until you meet that amputee with the heart 'o gold. Now what's your play, Mr. I Have Standards. Frank Sinatra was a great singer from about 1935 to about 1954.
After that he "stopped caring" and developed an entirely new singing persona - -the sort of overly causal, talk-singing misogynous wise-ass who purposely disrepected songs and slacked off through very recording on purpose, because he was "so good" that he "didn't need to try," or last wanted to give the appearance of not trying. His stage and recording alter-ego was of a dude that's so super-duper-talented that he can just sit there and goof around and sort of speak the lyrics, and still be better than anyone else. Unfortunately it was this latter-career asshole-persona for which he became most famous, and y which most people now remember him. Me? I HATE the latter-career Sinatra, but respect the early-career Sinatra. Meanwhile, he was also a very good actor. Meanwhile, he was morally compromised because he was heavily involved with the mafia. A very mixed bag of a person. But I really despise all his post 1955 recordings. Posted by: zombie at November 22, 2019 06:47 PM (fK2gX) 484
