Lindsey Graham Blusters: We'll Call Adam Schiff as a Key Witness in Senate Phase of Impeachment
If I believed him, I'd say this was great news, but I don't believe him. He says things that he thinks will get people to make positive memes about him on Twitter. But then he doesn't do a damn thing.
He also says that the fake whistleblower should be called as a witness, or else there would not be any trial. Here's his latest bid for meme-immortality.Graham also said he wouldn’t let a trial of Trump be based on hearsay evidence alone. A trial would also not be held if the whistleblower doesn't testify, he said. "Let's say they get 218 votes. Here’s what I promise the country. We’re not going to try the president of the United States based on hearsay. So any resolution setting up a trial in the Senate, I'm going to make sure that hearsay cannot be the basis of an impeachment allegation," Graham told host Sean Hannity. "If you invoke the hearsay rule, what would be left? "A trial in the Senate, to me, should not legitimize what's going on in the House. No American is denied the right to call witnesses on their behalf, except for Donald Trump. No American is accused of wrongdoing anonymously, except Donald Trump. What they’re doing in the House is a danger to the presidency itself.McConnell, however, says that if the House impeaches, the Senate is required to put on a trial.
"I don't think there’s any question that we have to take up the matter. The rules of impeachment are very clear, we’ll have to have a trial. My own view is that we should give people the opportunity to put the case on," McConnell told reporters after being asked about dismissing the articles of impeachment.There is chatter that some Senators may actually prefer not just to have a trial, but a long trial, in order to keep Democrat Senators running for president off the campaign trail and trapped in the Senate. OT: Another 'staffer' has come forward claiming to have overheard the Trump/Sondland phone call in a restaurant in Ukraine.
Now, these US dot gov employees are treading dangerous ground. If they are reporting eavesdropping on POTUS' calls they are in trouble. If they DID hear the call and didn't let Amb Sondland know that the call was audible to others they violated some serious security protocol. Its part of their freaking job to make sure sensitive info doesn't get out into the wild. They all go through the same training every year.

yeah, except - EVERY penny of foreign aid ever given to Ukraine (and to most countries) was conditional on Ukraine doing the right things in order to get it. So if it's bribery to ask for something in return for aid, then every American official ever involved in foreign aid is guilty of "bribery". It just doesn't work. However, in the interest of accuracy, I think the Dem partisan would say this: President trump tried to deny congressionally mandated funding to Ukraine unless they gave him substantial dirt on political rivals.
I think that is The Best Possible Way to state their case. The fact that it all fell apart, cuts against that, though, but the claim is that he did/tried.

This is true, but also incomplete.
We have gone from a legal process to a political process to a pageant. It is no longer about "high crimes and misdemeanors", nor is it about dems having enough votes.
It is about how bad it makes the dems look to continue this vs. how bad they look for giving up, vs, the potential for them to send a clear message of disapproval (which will be quashed by the Senate.)
They want the third option, right now they are at the first. R goal should be to either make them give up, or to go to Senate and rub their noses in the crap so they suffer.

One is the whole Chamber of Commerce-Mitch McConnell and his cohort dynamic.
Another is that both Burr and McConnell are implicated along with the Dem leadership in FISA abuse and the Trump dossier dissemination.
Third, most of the Gope and Dems are engaged in wholesale orgies of legalized graft and bribery through campaign funds, jobs for their spawn, and gifts from foreign entities.
Fourth, I believe that a lot of the GoPesters in Congress have adopted a nihilistic attitude toward this country and are grabbing what they can before the deluge.
They have given up and are more or less waiting on the Dems to consolidate their power. They believe what the media, education, corporations, and their wealthy donors are telling them--that the GOP long term is finished. That is what fear of the future can do to individuals--make them corrupt, malleable, and cowardly.

In the Johnson impeachment, they did indeed have a Trial on 3 of the charges. Those charges were held not Guilty on party line votes.
Then they dropped the rest. Didn't HAVE a trial on those charges.
So the Precedent is that the Senate can DECIDE what is an impeachable offense, even without a trial.

Well its a pretty standard legal procedure, an impeachment is an indictment, which is merely a recommendation to trial. Nothing compels them to actually hold a trial just because there's been an indictment. We see it all the time, in regular criminal cases.

Look at what the Wash State Supreme Court just ruled on a Seattle rent ordinance. By a 9-0 vote, they backed a Seattle law that forces landlords to rent to the FIRST applicant who applies, with very minimal restrictions.
Oh, and now a landlord cannot check for past CRIMINAL history. So if a Nazi-tattooed freak with prior violent felonies and a 700 credit score applies, and in your other units you have kids and families, too bad for you and the other tenants.
Ultimately, what this Savant-led new city law does is two things: get Mom and Pop owners out of the rental business completely, because they cannot afford the losses, and big commercial RE companies will simply raise rents overall to deal with the increased damage from bad tenants, and good tenants moving out to get away from the freaks/criminals.
9-0. The Communists have absolutely taken over Washington State. Commercial property ownership is a thing of the past for small investors.

And Trump will cruise to an easy re-election, because the public will look at this, say "after 4 years of screaming, the best they could come up with against Trump was this total nothing-burger? I guess he's not that bad."
