The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"OK, here are some take-aways from the Democrats' impeachment show trial:

"The president needs to prove his innocence.

"Surprisingly, hearsay evidence is actually better than direct, first-hand evidence.

"The purpose of impeaching Trump is to make sure he does not get re-elected. The Democrats are openly admitting this. See also here.

"Also, President Trump is being impeached because he tried to 'wrest control' of U.S. foreign policy from 'seasoned diplomats.' (see the second item under the fold). Which is weird, you know, because diplomats, no matter how 'seasoned', are supposed to follow policy, not set it.

"The breath-taking arrogance of this last one is especially galling. The old common wisdom was that the 'Deep State' was just a kwazy konspiracy theory cooked up by kooky konservatives from their paranoid, delusional fantasies. But, upon further reflection, the Deep State is apparently the fourth branch of government, not mentioned in the US Constitution, but nevertheless real and necessary; a bulwark, if you will, that protects the perks, privileges and prerogatives of an unaccountable, bureaucratic elite against American citizens who have the insolence to believe that they're entitled to participate in constitutionally mandated elections."

106 There was an odd little news item today that I think is more relevant than it appears. On Jeopardy yesterday, an answer was given, something like "Stormy Daniel's lawyer", to which the question was obviously (to us) "Who is Michael Avenatti?" None of the contestants got it, and what's more, after it was given them, none of them appeared to recognize the name at all.

And I believe this is good evidence that *WE* are quite unusual, and that in the broader culture, the vast majority of Americans have tuned out everything that has been happening for the last 3 years, just like they're tuning out these idiotic hearings today.

156 Well to be accurate, the opposition accuses Giuliani of trying to "wrest control" of foreign policy.

It's because it would sound real stupid to say that about the President. Because the President's opinion of foreign policy, in the Constitutional model, is the only one that matters.

I think that the President had to personally deputize Giuliani to work around the State Department is probably illustrative of the same problem Obama tried to work around with un-confirmed "czars".

And our politics have brought us to unfireable civil servants and only who the Senate will give the President as officers standing in the way of the President exercising his authority.

To be truthful, people since the Kennedy administration have complained about the resistance of the State Department bureaucracy to push the President's agenda and not just their own. However, the President is vested with this power, and it's not up to him to tolerate resistance if he doesn't want to.

So he deputized Giuliani to contact Ukraine about a personal matter (even as Ukraine put it) and it's really not so much Giuliani steering foreign policy as much as it is the flat out seditious statement by "experts" in government to say that the President would be invalid to do so.

265 All these people astonished at the media's distorted coverage? Meh, the media is actually to the left of Schiff and Co. with Fox reporters assigned to it about as leftist. Of course Bloomberg is going to say orangeman bad--its owner is running for the presidency as a Dem.

Of course Chrissie Wallace is going to say orangemanbad, he is his leftist father's son and even if he rejected that heritage, the Murdochs want orangemanbad to be the story line.

When the commentators in the evening on Fox come on, then you can digest the thoughts of the few supporters that Trump has in the media. Otherwise, why bother, the ordinary people of this country aren't apparently. Let the foolhardy or the terminally bored watch this stuff as it is as scripted as any "reality" show. And the impeachment show blows.

Ah. Simple in the statement - not always so simple in the execution. At least for some people, anyway.

Posted by: Insomniac at November 15, 2019 11:26 AM (NWiLs)

Its not simple to execute IF...IF you still have something binding you. Thats where the no fucks to give comes in. Other's expectations of you is one example of a major, major bind, and its a mental bind. Basically, if you meet your obligations you have done your part. Everything else is YOURS, and if anybody has a problem with that, then it's THEIR problem, not yours. Thats where the no fucks to give comes in, because not only do they want theirs, but they want yours too. I have seen many women wait on their men with hand and foot and its never enough, and I have seen many men work their fingers to the bone to provide, and its not enough. Fuckers always want more and more. The worst thing is to be shell shocked, and thats something you need to find inside yourself to overcome. I'm a stubborn fuck, if something don't work I just keep trying. The word quit isn't in my vocabulary, but I also recognize when something is 100% futile, and thats when I flip it the bird because I have no fucks to give. If any of this makes sense.

I hope I don't have to hear how Trump is guilty of the Perry thing in Texas, when he "intimidated" somebody by firing them, because they wouldn't "alter" their job, and it's "illegal" to intimidate a legal officer so that they alter their job--in the case of the lady in Texas, by not doing it anymore, she would be "altering her actions".

It was even more complicated, but it finally made it's way to the Court of Criminal Appeals (Texas Supreme Court for criminal charges) and they threw the whole thing out as Not a Crime at all.

And after that, fortunately, the Legislature finally took that power away from the city of Austin and Travis County, and said they had no more jurisdiction to investigate or charge any State official with anything ever again. That authority now belongs SOLELY to the Texas Rangers, who are under the control of the Governor.

That'll probably be abused in turn someday, but progs forced that by abusing their ability to indict so completely.

I'm often like that. But names I learned watching TV and movies as a kid and young teen -- and seeing their names printed in the TV Guide -- are cemented in the old hippocampus. Newer actors often take a number of exposures before my less-than-photographic memory develops anything.

Remove them from your mind a day at a time. First you go one day without thinking about them. Then two. Then a week. Then a month. Then a quarter. Then a year.

If you can't escape things, places, and people that remind you, move and don't give anyone your contact info. I did that, and Texas is unlike Florida enough that none of those old ghosts come back to haunt me.

Go a few years, you'll forget names and faces. Searing hatred will cool to indifferent disdain. The past can be buried, and stay down.

Well, sure. I offer in evidence Anthony Foxx, appointed Sec. of Transportation. Foxx had zero experience, aside from having been Mayor of Charlotte while a *private* company developed a Trolley system there.

However, he *did* raise $10 Million to finance the convention in Charlotte. He did that by arranging loans. Were the loans paid off? Well, no. The Convention committee defaulted on them.

Should have been a scandal, right? Nope. Smothered by the press, locally and nationally. Could have prompted a fraud investigation...by Loretta Lynch's DoJ, but no. Might have caused a local fraud investigation...by the Dem State AG, who was planning on running for Governor...ha, ha, ha.

Then, there is the story of how Anthony Foxx even became the mayor of Charlotte. Well, the previous Mayor (Patrick Cannon) was jailed, just after he was elected. Turns out the Feds (Loretta Lynch) knew he was going to be indicted well before the election, but remained mum. Why? Because if he was indicted before the election, A. the (R) candidate would almost surely win, and B. if he was removed from office, the (D) City Council gets to select the replacement, no election.

Bingo. Anthony Foxx.

Posted by: Priscilla Hutchin's turkey baster at November 15, 2019 11:56 AM (Fxgkp)

Reason to believe that Horowitz report is almost out - complaint coming out today from a "small group" of people named in the report (Comey, Clapper, Brennan?) that Horowitz is being "unfair" by not allowing written rebuttals to his report in reply to the sections concerning these persons, but will only accept verbal feedback. Then Horowitz will decide whether or not to include their objections and/or respond to them. They are also not being allowed to make or retain any written notes of their viewing of the report as it is still classified "Top Secret" at this point.

What this means is that Horowitz now is definitely in the 10 business day comment period which takes place after the agencies have done their review. It also means that he is NOT allowing any of these targets to submit written answers from their legal staff, and he is NOT allowing them to make notes or records which they could use to make the report. Now we do not know exactly when that 10 business day period began, I think we're about in the middle of it. After that, Horowitz decides whether any of the targets responses are worth adding to the report, and if he should then rebut them (and since he has limited their objections to verbal objections only, these will be limited) and after that, it's released.

I said ok, packed up the tools, left her car apart, and said fuck you. Months later I had gotten my first harley, went to the local pizza joint, and I see her sitting outside. I knew she went there because I would go there a lot. I asked her, well how is so and so. She says he beat me again, and looks up at me as if wanting me to be sympathetic. It was totally a personal lawyer meeting because the goal was to convince Trump that he could personally trust Ukraine. We already officially "trust" Ukraine, because they are an "ally".

445 Personally I view most of these "new young conservative" pundits as idiots and nobody should be listening to them about anything.

I thin kthey should be encouraged and nudged in the right direction, but not showered with respect or adulation. Michelle Malkin has a pretty good take on them:

Just a couple of days ago here on this very campus, former Fox News hostess Kimberly Guilfoyle sneered that young conservative men in MAGA hats asking inconvenient questions were rude losers who could only get dates online and who were embarrassing their parents. Another YAF speaker, Ben Shapiro, repeatedly denigrated an entire movement of young men who watch a YouTuber named Nick Fuentes and are seeking answers to tough questions about where America is headed as masturbating losers in their basements who share memes. As a mom with brilliant right-thinking kids who, yes, live in my basement, and, yes, share memes, I found these obsessive references to young people's dating lives and habits by prominent conservative media personalities much older than their targets to be tellingly defensive and touchy. Also: creepy.

Can these young people be confused, or unwise, inexperienced and uninformed sometimes? Sure. They need guidance and mentoring, help to do the job better. But they're also reaching a generation which I, or Tucker Carlson, or Ace do not, and cannot.

Some five years after Wife No. 2 left, I found out at a party that someone had heard from her: that her second husband had turned out to be abusive, and she was now "a welfare mother" in Maine to the kid she'd had with him. I walked around all evening with a big grin on my face.

As it happened, she came back into town three months later. I spent the night with her, twice, and on top of that got the money back that she'd embezzled from our checking account.

I could tell she wanted me to say out loud, "I forgive you." But I never did. Heh, heh, heh.

That's what it sounds like to me as well - or at least not any alterations unless Horowitz agrees with them. The targets who are named in the report are the ones who are pissed off about this, so it must be a pretty good move.

What they're really pissed off at is the fact that Horowitz has the authority to completely ignore their objections, if he so chooses. And he's not letting them have any written copies of anything to leak until AFTER the full report has already been released.

The woke leftist world will get to them all I guess. But I doubt it will happen to bullriding and I doubt it will happen to golf. The question is who do they need. What does golf need from the left? The most famous and most lauded professional golfer of all time is Jack Nicklaus. Nicklaus is an ardent Trump supporter and says so whenever asked.
When Nicklaus received the Medal of Freedom, Dems and Repubs gushed over him and wanted some of the spotlight. Nancy Pelosi game him as speech and treated him as hero. Same for Arnold Palmer.

Heh.

Yep.

After my divorce, I waited patiently for the ex to screw up, she did, took the kids and went on my merry way.

I was not above using the threat of child support to keep her off my back, either. Never had to ask or justify anything I did. The one time the ex did try to create an issue, I asked her if she wanted to see just how fast I could get child support off her. She backed down in a hurry.

After the kids were out of the house, I retrained into a different profession and have managed to do pretty well.

However, I freely admit I had a decade or so of suck along the way but, that's well behind me.

There's a big reason cops *hate* to go to a family fight call. There was a local case a while back where a guy was beating on his girlfriend in the car, cops saw it, yanked him out, he started a fight with them, while they were rolling around on the ground girlfriend pulled a pistol out from under the seat and took a couple shots at the cops. Luckily she wasn't just stupid, she was also a real bad shot, so she missed. That was a real prize couple, there.

I think you're right. To me the classic TV example of what you describe is the ST:TOS episode "The Naked Time." Chaos builds one disaster at a time, at first quietly and then furiously, to a slam-bang climax.

586 There's a big reason cops *hate* to go to a family fight call.

595 A big pundit fight going on between Malkin and everyone else because she's been hard on Charles Kirk and retweeted some alt-right guy named Nick Fuentes or something."

Fuentes, from what I understand, is genuinely bad news - a sort of anti-Israel, "Soros is bad so the Joos are to blame for everything" sort of guy. I guess Kirk or someone else got him deplatformed.

I'm torn about that. One hand, I can understand why you want to distance yourself from an actual anti-Semite. On the other, deplatforming is what the left does. The conservative stance has always been that everyone, even shitty Joo haters, should be allowed to participate in the marketplace of ideas. Saying everyone but this scumbag Nazi gets to participate is really a bad idea, because according to the left we are all scumbag Nazis.

Deplatforming characters like Fuentes also allows his fellow Jew-haters to play the victim and proclaim that the Zionists are out to get them.
