Killed 75% of (R) bills for two years also.

Only major agenda item he permitted for a vote was weak tea tax reform.

Slooooow walks nominations.

Keeps Senate in session to deny Trump recess appointments.

He gainsays and makes veiled threats against the President in the media. Sometimes overtly, as with Sessions.

All of his behavior (aside from the judiciary, which he'll have to live with after Trump is gone) indicates a plan to run out the clock on him.

And remember, Trump's entire core agenda runs counter to his own (globalism, China trade, and illegal immigration).

And if you think he's unwilling to get in the gutter to knife a fellow Republican, just ask McDaniel or Moore how that works.

A man who trusts that snake is a fool.

Luckily I don't think Trump is as credulous as many others.

102 Yeah, the pogrom [poetic license to exaggerate, for effect] against Orthodox Jews [broad daylight random violence] in parts of NYC the last year or more ..... a national secret. Not a thing "the press" would be comfortable actually reporting.

While the cretinous press and racist-authoritarian [Dem] politicos and even the Top Men at the FBI rant about the 97% imaginary and 1OO% inconsequential "white nationalism" and "white supremacy" menace, actual daily crude unbelievable violence is directed at a religious minority by ..... um, well, um .... non-white people who are all just about to turn their lives around.

Concur completely with this assessment, McConnel has passed or helped with any of Trump's core agenda, all of Trumps achievements have been through executive action.
The tax cuts while nice have had very little to do with the economic success seen under Trump, and they weren't done for Trump they were done for the GOPs donor class.

Embrace the power of and.

Rural living REQUIRES a certain amount of self-sufficiency. In an urban environment, self-sufficiency isn't nearly such a consideration. City services and retail businesses take care of everything, even in the event of disasters or disruptions.

Particularly in the case of the poor and unskilled, who can't scratch out a miserable existence in the urban environment, and turn to public services for aid.

That leads to a natural tendency toward big government, even among the middle class, who need the trash pulled and the streets kept in good order.

Big government in turns attracts government enthusiasts, who are natural thieves and predators, who degrade society for their own advancement.

Kind of hackneyed, but the basic point was that like the urban yuppies, especially the millennial urban yuppies, IKEA is cheap and interchangeable and blandly globalist. It has no sense of place, is even hostile to the concept of a sense of place. It is globalism personified.

189 145, I would argue the opposite has been true in the U.S, the cities by and large have become more and more dysfunctional and can no longer perform basic functions of order and public services. Trends come from the West Coast and as LA , San Fran, Portland, and Seattle become literally shit holes with open defecation in the streets, these will set the mark for Eastern cities like NYC to emulate. Chicago will soon go bankrupt, and many other cities face similar challenges as the pension bomb goes off.

That is why most productive people with children live in the suburbs and commute. You will see this accelerate as the cities decline. Now that the inner suburbs have become deluged, in some places, either people are moving further out or leaving a place altogether.

229 167, Sundance has stared into the abyss too much in my opinion. His optimism vanished as Session was shown to be a doddering old fool and Rosenstein was in fact a rat. Now he believes that Barr is a fixer, McConnell is an evil genius, Trump is doomed, and his last post is about as black pilled as you can get.

In fact, McConnell is rather stupid in some ways as he nearly got his butt beat six years ago by Bevan and his Chinese money is becoming public knowledge. He is also implicated in the FISA stuff as a member of the gang of 8 which is why he has allowed fellow corruptican Burr to keep that committee a nest of vipers.

But, think back to the end of the Untouchables when Capone finally goes to trial believing the fix was in. All Trump has to say to the Turtle is that his deeds and name are in the FISA intercepts too. Ditto for Feinstein, Warner, Burr, and the rest of the Uniparty.

There is an old Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam cartoon where they are standing next to a powder magazine. Bugs Bunny keeps lighting a match and dropping into the magazine, and Yosemite Sam keeps going down and blowing it out. Finally, Yosemite Sam warns Bugs that the next time that Bugs lights a match and pitches it in, Yosemite will not put it out. Bugs does, Yosemite waits, and waits, and waits, then cannot take it anymore--he goes down into the powder magazine too late and it blows up.

That is Trump (Bugs) and Yosemite Sam (McConnell) in a nutshell. With the Dems, it is more like Roadrunner (Trump) and Wiley E. Coyote (Dems). Meep Meep indeed.

This is going to reach everywhere ultimately. It will either be defeated here, or it will win everywhere. Think of pockets of un-destroyed country as likely de facto colonies and playthings of the ruined parts. Like LA taking all the water from the distant Owens Valley and turning it into a desert back in the 1920s. Also remember all the Federal initiatives to make outlying areas more 'diverse.' Somalis in suddenly appearing in Maine and Alaska, Section 8 housing in any neighborhood deemed insufficiently vibrant. They will not stop unless made to stop.

240 220, it was a cert decision, there were not four justices that wanted to hear it. It is really rare for interlocutory appeals to be granted cert as the Supreme Court prefers that the case go through its natural progress through the court system rather than interrupting it in the middle. This is not a surprise that they rejected cert at this point. However, I will argue too that the lawyers that Remington hired really sucked on the legal question remaining on advertising from reading the CT. Sup. Ct opinion.

It's a point I make occasionally. People complain about self-proclaimed conservatives claiming that a given initiative is "not the hill to die on". But the "not the hill to die on" approach is exactly the one that's being taken with California. It *must* be turned back in California, or it'll spread to the rest of the country (as it's already doing). You can't win by only fighting defensively. You have to go on the offense, as well.

No actually it does not work that way. The USSC does not take up cases that have not already gone through the lower courts, or which come to them someway through their own rules. I realize you want vindication of Remington (and all other firearms manufacturers fast) but it does not go that way. At all.

The district court has not even addressed the merits of the case to determine if the alleged fact pattern by the plaintiffs fits within the statute's exceptions. Until that happens you will not get an appellate decision at either the circuit court or supreme court level.

Quite literally - nothing has yet happened.

Most of the corporations have in effect poisoned the well of popular support and as the wealthy are shown to be dissolute and evil, both the right and the left are ironically combining against them. I am not really sure that the corporations and wealthy really understand how many people are beginning to hate them and that the fed gov won't be able to protect them or their businesses if things break down.

270 @240

The SCOTUS does not have to hear any cases and can remand them, they could also throw out cases due to factors without hearing them.
Also the CT is faulty on many levels.
One, Adam Lanza did not buy the weapons he used to perform his murderous acts.

Two, gun manufacturers are protected from civil suits by federal law.

Three, gun manufacturers never advertise their arms as offensive weapons and are always advertised as defensive weapons.

Four, John Roberts is a disgrace and is the shit cherry on top of the shit sundae of George Bush's ignominious time in office as President.

Crowding and prices are almost certainly big driver of 8OOK/year departures from CA. Not the lurid self-inflicted urban disamenities that get all the headlines.

Next to fall will be the denial that the media is a "propaganda arm" of the Democratic party - watch in horror as all the major networks admit it (NBC, ABC, CBS) right to your face and tell you it's for your own good.

The last to fall will be the denial that getting rid of the President was some coordinated effort between the two - again, they'll tell you it was all for your own good. Bank on it. You're get over it.
And by the way - your new President Warren we selected for your is much, so much better for you, trust us.

289 236 I haven't made plans to flee California, despite what the probable future here looks like, because I don't think there is ultimately any geographical protection long term. This is going to reach everywhere ultimately. It will either be defeated here, or it will win everywhere. Think of pockets of un-destroyed country as likely de facto colonies and playthings of the ruined parts.
Posted by: Semi-Literate Thug at November 12, 2019 09:10 PM

249 It's a point I make occasionally.

You guys get it.

People can move to TX, WY, or whatever "red" state they want. But the left will always follow.

People move to an out of the way county, but the left will eventually catch up.

I know some of you all like writing "We're not voting our way out of this". And I'm coming around to that POV. But we're also not moving our way out of this. And we're not lamposts and roping our way out. Not *types* *delete* our way out of it either, imho, no matter how well stocked you are.

As far as the guitar thing. Fuck yeah! I have to relearn things all the time, its the nature of the beast. If I don't play something for a few years the leads go out the window, but it takes no time to relearn because I play every day. The point is to keep yourself in top shape so it becomes a memory thing and not a technique thing. I knew you would pull it together if you just stuck with it long enough to get over the hump. Its critical to stay on the path until you clear the hump, then things rapidly fall in place..

297 The way to do it is to starve the bureaucrats. We talked to a building inspector/code enforcement guy in Hancock County, TN. He's it. Out here, there's an office full of these guys. But they can't afford them in TN like they can in WA. I also know that there were areas in the North Coast, WA where they told us they had to pass on some of the things Olympia wanted because their county was too poor to afford the bureaucrats to police it.

And de-militarizing local police is another thing we need to do.

More complicated than that. The institutions, like the Church, that should be helping us, are corrupted. You should read what the conservative Catholics are dealing with right now. Most Protestant churches are as bad. Schools, legal system, media, culture, all infected with the same disease. And it's more than just our country.

My father didn't play for 20 years, and when he got back into it again in his early 60's he was eventually better than he was when he stopped. Things will happen faster and faster. What kind of guitar are you using?

348 More complicated than that. The institutions, like the Church, that should be helping us, are corrupted. You should read what the conservative Catholics are dealing with right now. Most Protestant churches are as bad. Schools, legal system, media, culture, all infected with the same disease. And it's more than just our country.

I'm a conservative Catholic, so I'm well aware of the issues within the Church.

And the infection spread precisely because the establishment conservatives were too unwilling to push rightward. The only ones willing to fight were the socons, who were despised not just by the left but by the wishy-washy blue-blood moderate Republicans.

I wonder - what's to stop Congress or the Dem Party if they should just suddenly declare the President is Impeached, the Senate does a secret vote vs a public vote (NR says its just a "bad idea" not a crime or the horror it would be, just kind of a bad idea) to convict, and then both houses decide in private to vote that VP Pence simply can't or shouldn't take over. All this on their own, siting mumbo jumbo goofy semi-legalese language they've been using all along these last three months - and the press just backs them up to the hilt?

Will the people just allow Congress to take over the Executive branch all "for our own good"? I wonder - it just seems to be heading there for some reason - the Press, the Deep State and the Democrats simply can't allow Americans to elect our own President because the executive branch controls who gets thrown in jail- and that is a power they need very badly.

249 It's a point I make occasionally.
Posted by: junior at November 12, 2019 09:12 PM

You guys get it.

People can move to TX, WY, or whatever "red" state they want. But the left will always follow.

People move to an out of the way county, but the left will eventually catch up.

I know some of you all like writing "We're not voting our way out of this". And I'm coming around to that POV. But we're also not moving our way out of this. And we're not lamposts and roping our way out. Not *types* *delete* our way out of it either, imho, no matter how well stocked you are.

I'm at a loss how we get out of it. Or even how we get _through_ it."

Excellent comment.

It took the Russian dissidents 70 years and their Eastern European counterparts 50 years to get through it; many didn't live through it. One of the great myths is the oppressive communist states were hated by all. In fact, an actual, fair vote might have yielded a majority in some at certain points. Persuasion, patience and persistence paid off for those who hated their systems.

The monsters in D.C. probably hate the citizenry more than the original communists did theirs, but this country is very fragile in many ways the older models were not. If the American people took a notion to do it, it wouldn't take a hell of a lot of sand being thrown into the gears to grind an oppressive government to a halt. There aren't enough people there yet, as witnessed by a coup in open sight, eyes rolled at murders labeled as suicides, and so forth, and no resulting action. But that time will come, and yes, it will be ugly/uglier and nothing anyone in their right mind would want.

Not an answer to the brilliant points you raised, but probably a reasonable way to look at things.

They are not legally binding because the actual vote to begin a formal impeachment proceeding is required first, and it hasn't happened. Bingo. The other big problem is that, even if they WERE "real subpoena's",, Congress has no enforcement powers. (even though a couple Ivy League law professors say different) This is why Eric Holder could laugh off a suboena - the only way for Congress to enforce one is to ask the Attorney General to pretty please enforce it for them, and if he tells them to go piss up a rope, then that's what they have to do.
