THE QUOTES OF THE DAY

Quote I

"I'm hopeful in another 30 to 45 days. But this is of such significance that we can't rush to an answer. It's got to be right. We're not going to get a second chance." Commandant Gen. David Berger

Quote II

Simply put, there is no daylight between us and the City on the importance of preserving public housing — and we will continue to urge the City to work with us to pass these comprehensive regulations and create a path toward responsible home sharing. Josh Meltzer, Head of Northeast Policy for Airbnb

Quote III

As it relates to PG&E, it's about dog-eats-dog capitalism meeting climate change. It's about corporate greed meeting climate change. It's about decades of mismanagement. It's about focusing on shareholders and dividends over you and members of the public." Gov. Gavin Newsome (D-CA)

Quote IV

“I don’t support — a mandatory buyback is essentially confiscation, which I think is unconstitutional. It means that I am going to walk into your house and take something whether you like it or not. I don’t think that stands up to constitutional scrutiny.” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT)

Quote V

“This wasn’t a body shot. This was a head shot. My son was shot in the left side of his head just behind his ear. A head shot is personal,” Temia Hairston

Quote VI

“I thought I did a good thing, he had this book for diabetes, I did for two young lads who died in ‘15 and ‘17, that was never mentioned. I did a great thing, I thought, for 1500 troops at a hockey game in Branson. They were all forgotten. The one thing that got me was “You people.” I suppose, if I had to do it over again, I would have said “Everybody.” But “You people” are the people they listen to. The silent majority are always silent. The forces are with me. Everybody is with me. The firefighters, the whole deal. But it doesn’t make any sense, and I was brought in, and I was told that I was fired, after 38 years. You know, I stand by what I said, and I still mean it.”Don Cherry

8" screwdriver in the rectum. I suppose this could have happened to any man from any state. But, if you guessed Florida Man, you are spot on.

n a recent medical mishap, a 46-year-old man was admitted for surgery at a hospital in Florida to remove a screwdriver that was stuck inside his rectum.

According to Florida’s WFLA news outlet, the man entered the operation room in a state of septic shock. He underwent two separate surgeries to get rid of the foreign object — and even had a chunk of his rectum removed to avoid further infection.

The man told doctors he’d been experiencing pain in his abdomen and pelvis for a week. A CT scan quickly revealed the cause: a full-sized screwdriver lodged inside his rectum. The tool, which was almost eight inches long, was buried deep enough that it had pierced his large intestine.

If you are cringing, you are not alone.

So we all know about Florida Screw Driver Man. Perhaps our medical records will be available to all for viewing.

Google now has access to detailed medical records on tens of millions of Americans, but the company promises it won't mix that medical data with any of the other data Google collects on consumers who use its services.

Google has access to detailed health records on tens of millions of Americans
Google provided this statement yesterday shortly after The Wall Street Journal reported that Google is partnering with Ascension, the country's second-largest health care system, "on a project to collect and crunch the detailed personal-health information of millions of people across 21 states."

"To be clear: under this arrangement, Ascension's data cannot be used for any other purpose than for providing these services we're offering under the agreement, and patient data cannot and will not be combined with any Google consumer data," Google said in a blog post. That would mean Google won't use the medical data to target advertisements at users of Google services.

But Google promises. Yeah, they won't do that in your mouth either.

When will today's adults start equipping children to grow up and become responsible adults? Experts worry about active shooter drills in schools.

A regular drumbeat of mass shootings in the U.S., both inside schools and out, has ramped up pressure on education and law enforcement officials to do all they can to prevent the next attack.

Close to all public schools in the U.S. conducted some kind of lockdown drill in 2015-2016, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.

Last year, 57% of teens told researchers they worry about a shooting happening at their school. A slightly higher percentage of parents of teenagers, 63%, fear a shooting at their child's school, the Pew Research Center found.

But many experts and parents are asking if the drills, some complete with simulated gunfire, are doing more harm than good.

ICYMI. All good things must come to an end.

After what the Washington Post calls "weeks of controversy with low scores," former press secretary Sean Spicer finally got axed Monday on Dancing With the Stars, in the show's ninth week. Spicer hasn't exactly been a judges' favorite—at one point, Carrie Ann Inaba said, "Sometimes it looks like you are doing the same dance over and over again," per EW.com. Spicer, 48, danced a fox trot and an Argentine tango (which judge Bruno Tonioli called an "Argentine struggle") with temporary partner Jenna Johnson, and for the first time he ended up as one of the bottom two contenders.

The judges get to pick which one of the bottom two stays, and they didn't hedge. The Post notes that a social media campaign appeared to help Spicer rack up viewer votes week after week, with even President Trump weighing in on occasion. Before Monday's performance, Trump called Spicer "a great and very loyal guy who is working very hard" and urged viewers to cast their vote for him in a now-deleted tweet. After Spicer was eliminated, Trump put up a new post, gushing, "A great try by @seanspicer. We are all proud of you!" Spicer's reply to his old boss: "Thank you @POTUS @realDonaldTrump I can't begin to express how much your continued support has meant, especially during my time on @DancingABC."

Mrs. Mis. Hum. says no. "We don't need to mix a flunkie with the two other delinquents."

INSIDE THE WORLD OF GUIDE DOG DROPOUTS
In this highly competitive training, pup perfection is demanded — and not every student can make it to graduation. Here's what happens to the still very good boys who need a sudden ‘career change.’

When I meet Eddie, a yellow Labrador, at a friend’s family barbecue in Detroit, it’s clear he isn’t like other dogs. He knows how to sit, stay and walk (on- or off-leash), but his best trick is being able to read a room. Whether his role is to greet a guest, play with children or rest his head on my lap as we drink beers by the bonfire, Eddie always does the right thing. All the while, he’s never a nerd about his intrinsic obedience. “Dude, what’s your dog’s deal?” I eventually ask Delia Bryan, Eddie’s owner and a family friend.

“He’s a guide-dog-school reject,” she tells me.

The ONT will give her credit: Joy Reid is an equal opportunity bigot.

With the Democratic Party about to come out from behind closed doors in the basement of the U.S. Capitol and take their impeachment inquisition before cameras this week, MSNBC’s Joy Reid beat the rush in assisting the party with their objective — shaping public opinion.

Doing so while attacking Thanksgiving.

“We’re just over two weeks away from one of the most beloved American food holidays,” the AM Joy host said Saturday in her opening remarks. “Thanksgiving, where problematic actual history meets delicious cuisine and many of you will be heading home to spend time are family and friends, eat a little too much and perhaps engage in a dreaded contentious political debate with your cranky uncle Rosco when he starts yelling, ‘Read the transcript!’ at the dinner table, between bites of turkey and pumpkin pie.

Talk about a chip on the shoulder.

Completely classless? Yes. Criminal? I guess that is why there is 911.

Amazon has pulled an offensive shirt emblazoned with “Daddy’s Little Slut” thanks to some good old-fashioned Twitter shaming.

But it has allowed its third party seller to continue hawking other off-colour items.

The original $18 shirt sold by OnlyBabyCare started going viral last Friday morning, as images of the shocking slogan circulated Twitter.

It has been available on Amazon since June, with a description claiming it was “suitable” for “playing outside, birthday party, baby shower, baptism” among other family-friendly activities.

Rich boomer in favor of Special Snowflakes.

Abigail Disney, the millionaire heiress of the Disney fortune, offered a scathing rebuke of fellow Boomers on Twitter, criticizing their attitudes towards younger generations and telling them to "sit the f--k down and let the kids drive."

Prohibition leads to capitalism. You can't do that. Oh yeah, watch me.

Biker Gang Leader's DIY Guns Are Part of a Predictable Prohibition Story
From Australia to Massachusetts, illegal gun makers step in to supply what legal markets aren’t allowed to produce.

As a convicted felon, Bruce Sartwell isn't legally allowed to own firearms. But the regional president of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club obviously isn't the kind of guy who cares about what he's legally allowed to do; when he was arrested in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, he was found to be in possession of a rifle he'd made himself, as well as unregistered "silencers" (sound suppressors), parts, and the equipment needed to manufacture more weapons.

The story of a criminal making guns that he needs for his "trade" is all very predictable if you've been paying attention to events around the world. It also casts further doubt on the claims of gun control advocates that their favored restrictions will make the country safer.

Never stick your tobacco in crazy your ass. Genius Award Winners.

A state appeals court panel has refused to void a prisoner’s conviction for a brutal attempt to steal contraband tobacco hidden in another inmate’s rectum.

The Superior Court decision outlined in an opinion by Judge Paula Francisco Ott sinks Maurice Wakefield II’s bid to overturn the 9- to 18-year prison term he received for the attack.

Wakefield’s conviction stems from an incident in E Block at the Blair County Prison on the night of March 16, 2017.

Too late for that diploma? Never. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

Corporal Lewie Shaw received his high school diploma more than 70 years after he left school and joined the Marines.

Shaw enlisted in 1943.

He fought in Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima. He was wounded fighting for his country.

"One come out with a phosphorus grenade got me across the backside," he told KJRH. "And I didn't want to tell anybody. A good Marine doesn't get shot in the back."

I remember it well, but it's an insane comparison to make. Or maybe not... When Gorbachev fell, a band of Party apparatchiks who had launched the coup against him attempted to stay in control and keep the USSR going, but the local army units moved on the Parliament building where they were holed up. (iirc) Yeltsin gained fame by publicly riding on one of the tanks. The coup plotters fled, the old USSR died, and the modern state of Russia was born.

74 at least 95% of the commentators in the Tacoma gun and ammo tax are against the tax, and are making good, rational points.

My money is the Tacoma city council will ignore these ideas completely.

$25 on each gun, and 2 cents per round of ammo.

the left falsely associates gun violence from criminals with the actions of responsible citizens.

"We're just over two weeks away from one of the most beloved American food holidays," the AM Joy host said Saturday in her opening remarks. "Thanksgiving, where problematic actual history meets delicious cuisine and many of you will be heading home to spend time are family and friends, eat a little too much and perhaps engage in a dreaded contentious political debate with your cranky uncle Rosco when he starts yelling, 'Read the transcript!' at the dinner table, between bites of turkey and pumpkin pie."

We'll weather the impeachment business just fine. For those who are unsure, please remember the Civil War--a situation that would have destroyed a country with a lesser political system.

Because we live in the most exceptional country on the planet, governed, NOT ruled by a political system unique in history.

One of the results has been an extraordinary populace found in no other country.

What we face now is perilous, yes, but ultimately will be another similar danger filled issue we will have prevailed over.
Never doubt and never falter.

112 Hello, horde. My job interview today was rather strange - but in a good way. The woman who interviewed me urged me to apply for another job in the same department - a significantly higher paying one. She told me she was sure I could handle the job I originally applied for but someone with my experience would be more useful in the higher position. (I hadn't even seen the higher paying job on their website when I was job hunting.) She said she and her boss were impressed by my resume, and since they have quite a few "newbies" in the department they really need someone with my experience.

So when I got home, I applied for the second job, which I have already been interviewed for

They just started interviewing for both positions, so I'm not cocky yet - I've had too many disappointments for that. But it felt good to be in an environment where my years of experience was an asset, instead of feeling like my age was working against me.

I was asked about the impeachment kangaroo court by my wife's parents tonight. "Let me be blunt," I replied, "it's all bullshit. I am sick and tired of half this country having pitched a prolonged fit of nearly three years all because they refuse to accept the results of a validly contested election." I threw in a scathing denunciation of the MSM having sat on the Epstein story for three years, too. "What kind of monsters would allow a pedophilic monster three years' time to continue his criminal and immoral behavior when they had the goods on him to have him put away? They are complicit in his crimes, whatever they were, during that period."

I hated to have launched on them when it is Mrs. K's idiot siblings to whom those things ought to have been delivered.

Same here, but '70s mostly. Loser? I think I escaped fitting into that particular box.

Poorer than a sharecropper's bastard kid? Yeah, that pretty much fits the description.

All what I made from work went to putting food on the table. Even at 14, if I didn't work, we risked not getting to eat. Yeah, things where that thin, and remained so even after joining the USAF, who didn't see fit to allow my to declare my dying Mom as my dependent.

So, I did it out of pocket, such as it was.

Only concert I got to see in my teen years was a day-long show at San Diego Stadium, sponsored by KGB-101 FM radio.

Foghat was one of the acts. And a fog of pot smoke that must've looked like an industrial chimney rising up out of the stands.

J. Giles Band. I forget the rest.

Admission price: $1.01. Thanks to the radio station.

Rode my freakin' bicycle to that show.

Missing concerts wasn't all I missed out on, either.

Life ain't fun for a poor kid in paradise. Wasn't till many years later that I began to find traction, here and there. Lots of slidin' back downhill, too.

Somehow or another, it all comes down to perseverance.

Or what I did. Just too stupid to quit.

No, these are 2 separate positions and they want to hire 2 people. The one I applied for is basically identical to a job I did for 5 years.

The other position will be more challenging, more of a "big picture" job. The big project for 2020 is working with the Legal Department to revise and revamp all of the department's policies. I've written a few policies before and liked that work, so I hope I get the job.

148 Speaking of Turkey Day, I have noticed this year a number of yards in my area are decorated specifically for Thanksgiving. Big inflatable turkeys wearing Pilgrim hats not to mention giant Pilgrim couples, strings of lights in autumn colors, pumpkin and turkey cut-outs in the windows, etc. It's as elaborate as the stuff people do for Halloween or Christmas. I like it. I'm sure it gives the Joy Reids of the world heart palpitations at the unseemliness of it all.

Over the years, Newsome, directly and through his relatives, received about $700,000 from PG&E. Like other politicians in CA, he was bribed by the utility to let them utterly slide on maintenance and safety requirements. He is a pathological and opportunistic liar. A true hollow man.

There are transmission towers in the PG&E system that are over 100 years old. Their practice is zero preventive maintenance, to only fix things when they break. The executives gave themselves big bonuses after burning up all those people last year. The company is bankrupt but they're fine. Everybody who matters is well-compensated happy. Load up your plate with the stuff you like and then take just a tiny bit of the kale, because jeez, there's just no room for anything more.

I do that with my brother's cranberry sauce. We were all happy with plain old cranberry sauce out of the can like mom always had and then he decided to start making it himself. Except he doesn't put enough sugar in it and there's some other weird offputting spice in there. But he's very proud of his contribution, so I take a tablespoon of it every year.

Maybe we should roast ducks instead!

Google will probably be a "business associate" of Ascension Health for purposes of HIPAA, and thus subject to a number of privacy and security requirements WRT the PHI in their possession. However, the potential for misuse is YUUUGE and there's not much you can do absent vigorous enforcement by the Feds.

Although the gun tax was the issue, there are quite a few that are commenting on a local bio-fuel manufacturing plant that is proposed for the Tacoma tideflats.

There has been a lot of opposition over the last few years because it would stink. Not unlike the old pulp mills that Tacoma was once famous for. ("the Aroma from Tacoma")

What I find most interesting is the 20-somethings that are mostly college educated and truly believe that the planet is finished and their lives are turning to shit, because of fossil fuels.

They really believe this shit. To some of them, it is the 4th quarter of Earth's life, and humanity is down by many touchdowns. And their QB just went down.

Hate to say it, but if they want to turn it back a couple centuries, over half of today's population must be immediately eliminated.

Abu-al-Ata, senior commander of Islamic Jihad in Gaza and Iranian toady, was in charge of IJ's rockets.

Following his Iranian masters' orders, he fired rockets into Israel to try to disrupt the Eurovision song contest, and fired rockets at a music festival in Israel near Gaza.

Unfortunately for him, he also fired rockets at a Benjamin Netanyahu campaign rally near Gaza on September 10th, forcing Netanyahu off the stage, and into a bomb shelter.

Netanyahu was pissed, and the IDF waited for the right opportunity, and fired a rocket a couple of days ago, killing Abu-al-Ata and his wife, without harming anyone else in the apartment building they were staying in.

I was old enough to know how to light a match but still young enough that an adult would be horrified to see me do it. Passing through my parents' bedroom, I spotted a cig butt in an ashtray. One of Mom's Newports. And matches.

I lit up that Newport butt and took a hit... hilarity of a sort ensued.

I won't say I never touched tobacco - I've been known to enjoy a good cigar - but that incident ensured I would never get the habit.

I'll tell you what this is. Epstein was intel. His job was to get compromise and get pictures of all the movers and shakers the CIA and Five-Eyes and others (Mossad, included) wanted.

Remember that quote by one of the prosecutors in Florida that "Epstein was intel" and untouchable.

Ghislaine (and her daddy was some kind of triple or quadruple agent for everybody -- hell he probably didn't know himself whose side he was really on) was in on it. She was telling her "clients", CIA mainly, that she would spill the beans on 'em.

The notion of the CIA intentionally using underage girls to compromise people wouldn't sit too well with the public.

And that's exactly what they were doing.

461 Well, I messed with LED's again tonight. I cut off sections of the aluminum backing strip from the dead Samsung TV, and soldered wires to the + and - traces for the LED's. Some lit right away on 3 volts from two "D" cells. Some never lit at all, or blinked once, faintly. And a couple would not light initially on 3 volts, but if I added more "D" cells to the stack, and zapped them with 4.5 or 6 volts, they lit up brilliantly. And thereafter would light on three volts. I wonder if the active junction in a LED can become "clogged" somehow. And one would not light on six volts, but gave out all its light in one mighty flash when hooked to a 9 volt battery.

I put an ammeter in the circuit, and one LED, while lit, pulled 80 mA at 3 volts. So about a quarter watt. Which is probably about as much power dissipation as a tiny little surface mount device about 3 mm square can handle.

Robert Maxwell "had a heart attack and fell off his yacht and drowned". A tragic boating accident. There were all sorts of financial irregularities with his empire.

He had raided hundreds of millions of pounds from some of his company's pension funds and used that to shore up his other companies. His death almost caused a mini-crash of the London banksters.

Goldman-Sachs and the British Govt bailed it out. That is, the British taxpayer had to make Maxwell's stolen funds good -- well, 50 cents on the dollar.

That's the level Ghislaine's Daddy was on.

He given a state funeral in all but name by Israel and buried on the Mount of Olives. Six former and current heads of the Mossad attended, as well as PM Yitzhak Shamir. The then President of Israel eulogized him.

The yacht Bobby Maxwell fell off of was named "Lady Ghislaine". Whether he named the boat after his daughter, or the daughter after his boat, I don't know.

Ol' Robert had some, uh, "proclivities". There was something very weird going on with young Ghislaine. I read something that she "loved Epstein like she loved her father".

Maxwell had several children, including other daughters. Ghislaine was Daddy's favorite.

When you read about, it gets very creepy indeed.

Ghislaine once hosted a dinner party for a bunch of girls, where she put dildos at all the plates and instructed them on BJ techniques.

I wonder who taught her?

I think we can just call it 'Evil.'

This is something I come back to from time to time. Today, we conservatives (at least social traditionalists) bemoan that kids are not left to be kids but bombarded by sexual innuendo, messaging, the horrors of adult life way too early. They do not get a chance to be kids like most of us, ideally, were able to.

The thing is, what is going on now was pretty common in a lot of corners of the world just 2-300 years ago. Moloch worship. Child sex slavery. All of it. All the horrors of history laid bare and now repeated again.

So what we are really bemoaning was not some time honored thing that stretched back through history. What we are bemoaning is a momentary stretch of time when kids did not have to worry about childhood death or being prey for fucked up adults. So, what, a 50 year stretch?

This is one case where the Tradition argument would be on the other side. I say burn the mother fucker down. Kids should be able to be kids and left the hell alone.

Maybe. I do not know what the answer is. It just seems like we spent thousands of years to get to a point where we had cured childhood mortality. And for a brief shining moment, we achieved it and kids had what every parent wanted for their kids for thousands of years. (Note: I am not saying this was the reality for all kids- of course it wasn't.)

Then we ok'd freestyle abortion and condoned it culturally. So every gain we made in keeping kids alive is undone in a decade. And this time, the kids do not even get headstones to mark their passing to be observed by distant relatives when they place flowers on their family graves on Memorial Day.

Then we started bringing in the gay and tranny shit and involving kids.

Bring on a plague. People are too stupid to realize the realities of the situation and what is right and what is wrong without a knife to their throat.

525 Yeltsin and tanks was in fact both the 1991 and 1993 events. 529 Maybe Abigail Disney ought to read the Yelp reviews of the Walt Disney Magnet School in Chicago.

"I had some good memories and learned a lot at this school but the principal and the staff are just extremely rude to the students. Even some kindergarten teachers would yell at their own students which makes no sense what so ever. I honestly would never send a child to this school."

and

"Academic it's a great school but the principal and asst principal is horrible! Their attitude and how they speak to ppl is insane! Can be very unorganized warn parents and send out letters so everyone can be on the same page!"

Sounds as if the unionized teachers and prinicipals are in it for themselves and the money, not the kids.

552 So there was a 14 year old stabbed in front of the Chick-fil-A directly across from the Inner Harbor (Largest tourist draw in Baltimore) around 5:00pm on Monday. At the same time, a gang of approximately 30 illegal dirt bikes was snarling traffic in the immediate area, hindering emergency and police response to the scene.

Meanwhile, at 2:00pm in broad daylight, a student is shot directly in front of a city High School. Targeted hit by shooters wearing masks.
Student made it into the school building, where a uniformed Baltimore City Schools Police Officer shielded his body on the floor with his own body.
Officer was unable to return defensive fire if need be, as these sworn uniformed officers are not allowed to wear firearms inside Baltimore City schools.

Meanwhile, the Late Elijah Cummings widow will be running for his seat.

And Baltimore City Council has passed a bill banning plastic shopping bags.

The city is desperately trying to maintain that reputation of safety in the Inner Harbor area for exactly that reason.

Fact is, the Inner Harbor area is becoming targeted by gangs of juveniles for crime.

Through careful wording of the local news, on the crimes that they even chose to report, the proximity to the tourist areas is downplayed to the maximum extent possible.

They lose the Inner Harbor to the Gangs, and Baltimore is done as a viable location for tourism.

A baked potato can be cooked faster if you stick a nail in the end, through the middle. The nail will conduct heat into the middle of the potato. We used to do that when cooking big meals (many potatoes) with a baked potato as a side, to get them in and out of the oven faster.
Use a clean nail, of course.

635 Sanders's gun quote is interesting. I'd always assumed his pro-gun votes were purely for political convenience. Maybe there is a touch of honesty there. Remember, he is old enough to have imbibed the 60s radicalism which was not afraid of guns, and saw them as possible tools for the revolution.

(Not that I think the rest of us could keep ours if the Sandersistas were in power. But there is a difference between having, and betraying, a principle, and having none to betray.)

There are potato 'nails' out there, a metal rod with a slightly bent 'handle' on one end for easy removal. They do cook the potato faster but you can't rush a good crispy skin on a baked potato.

642 The Don Cherry quote calls to mind the attacks on Ross Perot, when he used the phrase "you people" in a speech to - IIRC - the NAACP.

Among the many less-than-delightful features of our age is this way Permanently Indignant assume that others use words in only and exactly the way they do. They have no sense that your region, or your generation, or your personal education and background are a factor. And when they hear something from an earlier era, well, the shit ALWAYS hits the fan.

Modern education seems to be successful at one thing, anyway. It is really good at narrowing one's mind.

The larger question is how can a committed Marxist be loyal to the US Constitution. The answer is: he can't.

That's what I always found interesting about a Bernie candidacy. Here's what he would have had to swear to, if he had won:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the
office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my
ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United
States.""

Of course, Barry the Lightworker made a mockery of his oath.

b. I too had such a job (lots of students did, then.) The next month, we called the police for some crap customers were doing. When they got there and straightened it out, one of the cops stayed behind and said "Now, I'm not advising you what to do, but you know that store where the clerk shot the robbers?
