Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | And Now AP: Mormons Killed in Mexico Deserved It Because Of Mormon History of PolygamyThis is... absolutely disgusting. And they're all on the same page. They cannot stop writing articles claiming that White Colonizers need to be slaughtered by the Oppressed Brown Resistance. They've now deleted this tweet, but this is what it said:@APWestRegionWhile the tweet was deleted, the story is still live, and it's here. Mexican killings spotlight Mormon history with polygamy The slaying in Mexico of nine people who belonged to a Mormon offshoot community where some people practice polygamy spotlights the mainstream church’s struggle to distance itself from plural marriage, which has a history in the faith but has long been denounced. The victims’ connection to Mormonism featured prominently in headlines this week about the drug cartel attack on a caravan of American women and children living in Mexico, though there’s no indication they were targeted for their religion. Then why are you bringing it up, except to suggest that the White Colonizers deserved to be murdered? It's time to do a Routine Background Check on everyone in the media. Meanwhile, James O'Keefe says "stay tuned."

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is forced to confront its history of polygamy after nine women and children from a Mormon offshoot where some practice plural marriage died in a cartel ambush in Mexico.
So a few decades from now, throwing gays and adulterers off of the roof will be understandable and honorable since deviancy from monogamy is considered punishable by violent and torturous death. I can't keep up with the Left.

there were possible takes on the story when it came out. when it was still possible that a LeBaron cultist did this to other LeBarons. that shit used to happen. They then became a very successful demographic, a minority, traditionally underrepresented in mexican poltics, you might say. then one day, the cartels started kidnapping and killing them, so they had to align with the mexican military for protection. that's about it. white people bad. and apparently mexico is only brown. None of those people have ever been members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the leaders of this group were excommunicated decades ago. It's like calling Protestants, Catholics or when they try to get it right like saying Lutherans are a Catholic offshoot. While basically correct... it does not distinguish between them at all. I think they call them selves LaBarones or something like that.

I keep harping on this, but you have to understand the media/DNC's game here. It's not what it appears on the surface, which is merely professing their belief that whites should be slaughtered, making that thought acceptable, etc. Those things are a bonus.
The actual sin here that you should know - the media has been charged with taking any tragedy that might unite EVERYONE in a common brotherhood of healing, and using it to purposely divide us, tearing open wounds at any weak point they can find, to cement those wounds in place. Remember "never let a crisis go to waste"? That has been implemented in the darkest fashion imaginable. The positives we normally seek in tragic circumstances are few and far between, but they are generally things like inner strength, gratitude, family bond, a belief in a higher power. In dark times, we automatically search and find what unites us. It's in our DNA. On 9/11 there were tons of reports of no one caring about color/creed/etc, it was human and human forging ahead, everyone equal, rescuing one another, consoling each other, laughing, crying. Tragedies are unavoidable, and specifically since around 2009 or 2010 they are purposely being used to prop up the Left's overarching commie goal of subduing our spirit and subjugating our humanity to their bitter, vile, capricious whim. When you clearly see that common thread among ALL the after-reporting of every single big awful news event, it will chill you to the bone. Posted by: ... at November 07, 2019 08:31 PM (uEbPt) 109

If your country, such as the UK, doesn't allow you to renounce citizenship and continues to recognize you, then in all practical terms, yes, you are a dual citizen, and no America doesn't "stop" it. @115 Why would this horrendous crime put the spotlight on polygamy? There is no logical connection I can see.
--------------------- Definitely reaching, but... The LDS settlements down there were originally started at least in part to avoid the US Government's persecution of the LDS Church over polygamy. So if someone says, "Gee, what were a bunch of white Mormon heretics doing down there," then someone else will reply, "That's where a bunch of Mormons moved a long time ago to avoid persecution over polygamy!" Of course, anyone currently practicing polygamy is not a member of the LDS Church (at least, not if the Church finds out about it). But, hey, anything to make the Mormons - who typically present a clean-cut, god-fearing, good neighbor American image these days - look weird. Canada spent a lot of money earlier this decade when things went haywire in Lebanon and the Canadian military airlifted a whole bunch of Lebanese-Canadians to Cyprus. Once things settled down, pretty much all of them went back to Lebanon. Many of them had never set a foot in Canada. Citizens living in other countries, notably dangerous ones, have always been a flashpoint for many governments. In the 19th Century, the Brits had a policy they called "The Sword follows the Cross" that allowed them to grab all the parts of Aftrica that they did.
The policy was very simple - they would "allow" (encourage) unarmed missionairies, young and very appealing to the public, to go into dangerous and uncivilized areas. Then they would wait for them to be slaughtered, which the first wave always would be, and then they'd send in an Expeditionary Force to wipe out any indigenous native forces and take the are over as a protectorate. As I understand it (and this may be wrong, or at least a gross oversimplification), the Roman civilization's legal system advanced/became complicated enough that multiple spouses presented a legal nightmare for estates. What if one spouse has five kids with you and the other one has zero? Should they both get half the estate? So the Romans punted by making it illegal to be married to more than one. I think the same was true for most other advanced civilizations (e.g., the Chinese). You could have all the slave women, mistresses, concubines... you wanted, but they wouldn't be legal heirs. @343 I actually have much less of a problem with Polygamy between consenting ADULTS (key there), than I do with Gay Marriage.
----------------- It makes sense in certain very specific situations. For instance, if you've got a lot more living women than living men, polygamy is a smart move. But it has its own attendant problems. For instance, if the rich older guys are marrying all the women, then the younger guys can't get married because all of the potential brides are already taken (which is apparently a problem in the polygamous communities in the US). And in-fighting between wives can be pretty fierce, particularly when there's jockeying over which son is going to get the primary inheritance from dear old Dad when he finally kicks the bucket. There's nothing in the Bible against polygamy, neither in the Old Testament or the New. The closest is the two verses in Timothy that state that a bishop/elder must be the "husband of one wife". So multiple wives weren't allowed for bishops, but still okay for everyone else.
Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at November 07, 2019 09:13 PM (tJvHx) Actually - this has been a topic of discussion several times with both Christians and Jews I've known, and there *is* teaching against in what we Christians call the Old Testament (Law & the Prophets, etc), but it's quite subtle. (the best teachings are the subtle ones) When you examine the stories of the patriarchs, and other notable historical figures in the books, the ones with multiple wives *always* suffer and got through great grief because of it. The children grow up, and war starts withing the family because one wives sons are favored. The original reason Joseph's brothers hated him putting on airs was because he had a different mother than they did. Davids kingdom was wracked with rebellion and instability because of too many wives. On the other hand, when there is a stable, god fearing character who lives a good, peaceful life and who is blessed, he is *always* shown with one wife only, and they are dedicated to each other. (Boaz and Ruth, frex) So it's there. It's just under the surface, but the lesson is clear, if you want a blessed and peaceful life, stick to one wife. What I'm saying is its not MY place to decide for others. ---------------- Divorce at the behest of the wife is a relatively new phenomenon. Posted by: Tom Servo at November 07, 2019 09:24 PM (V2Yro) Jesus is quite explicit about his change to what is tolerated under his new teaching about marriage in Matthew 19. It's not a subtle change. The apostles even react that it is better for a man not to marry--and Jesus doesn't back off one bit. Not everybody can receive his teaching, but if you follow him, you must. It's actually pretty dramatically demonstrated. When Israel was the plan, marriage was social. With Jesus, it becomes devotional, and a way for us to understand the Father's marriage to Israel and Jesus' wedding to the Church. It was sanctified and used for God's purposes as devotion to God. what was the point of divorce back in the old days? No one wanted to marry a women not in her youth and not a virgin. It seems to me, that rather than being about the poontang (well, inasmuch as marriage can not be about poon), that polygamy was a soft divorce that kept the wife and kid in the tent while a new wife was brought in.

Look. I really don't want to argue. But here is Matthew 19:5
--- Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh --- "Anthropon" and "gyn" are distinctly singular. IF that doesn't mean enough, it's right there in the numbers. "two"-> one flesh. And Jesus explains in 8: "8 He said to them, 'Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.'" Because of the hardness of mens' hearts, marriage has been allowed to be other. --- But he said to them, "Not everyone can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given. 12 For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it." --- Thus the out is a "eunuch", that is sex sacrificed for another devotion to God. Posted by: Axeman at November 07, 2019 09:48 PM (Eicbe) 478

Cough... Trinity... cough....
In point of fact, polygamy was very, very common in Jewish culture at the time. If Jesus had wanted to ban it, he would have said so. Directly. You're parsing the words like a lawyer. --- Wow that first shot is mega-dumb. Just because the Trinity (which is more doctrine than straight scripture, anyway), it doesn't mean that Jesus was evoking anywhere near the same numerical mystery in marriage. I doubt it was as common as you make it. It was more the style of Hebrews of that time to "put away" one wife and take another (which is why it is addressed). There was definitely more serial polygamy going on (mainly men). But nothing I said requires polygamy to be rare. Ban it? He was killed as a rebel. What kingdom has Jesus ever had on this Earth that he could ban something. Since this is such a brilliant approach--what else did Jesus ban? I think Jesus mainly said "If you love me, you will keep my commandments". His model is all conditional: Let him who has ears, let him hear. To those that can receive his teaching... He didn't ban anything. Therefore your challenge is feckless. The pattern of Jesus is to reference the prohibition of the Law, and often he recommends newer and better patterns which are the "more excellent way" and the "life more fully" for those that follow him. The Law is abstract and broad. Jesus is the Incarnation, he is the Word (abstract principle) made flesh. We emulate him. We no longer concern ourselves with following the broad rungs and remedies of the law, but try to follow in His footsteps. That pattern is repeated and repeated in Jesus teaching. The old practices aren't banned. We are entreated to live a fuller life, to follow him. It is distinct and exemplified. Posted by: Axeman at November 07, 2019 10:07 PM (Eicbe) 492

When we talk about the "Grace of God" (as opposed to the Law) we are essentially saying The Lord is just an unbelievably compelling and great guy. The Grace of God is said out of a personal relationship with the Author of the Law. It is given to us in the words of "Taste" an experience. We will not know that the Lord is good through abstract principles--however reasonable and sustaining, we know that the Lord is sweet by tasting.
