And that's when he started to talk about confiscating guns, and penalizing churches. His plan not only failed miserably, it was so badly thought out that it destroyed his chance to ever run for any public office again. Bye Bye Beto!!!

I disagree.
You can make a movie about colonialism and have it be quite good. Highlight the fraught relations between the overlords and their subjects, the simmering conflict, etc. There are in fact good movies/tv series about British India and other places.
But when you announce that you're going to check the diversity boxes and that THIS is why your show will be great...yeah, it's gonna suck.

Presumably the money was for the locations and costumes, plus lots of extras. I'm assuming this was greenlit BEFORE the series finale took a giant dump in the turd bowl, destroying both the production team's reputation AND the value of the franchise.
Studios will be very free with cash if they think it's a sure bet. Once they wake up, it's another story.

I'm amazed so much of the state has taken the side of the public employees and their absurd pensions.
I tend to think Bevin comes out ahead also, just because the Democrat party is deeply unpopular nationally in KY, Trump is popular, and impeachment is not.
But Bevin has a race and probably 90% of the state is not effected by these pension issues, but somehow think teachers deserve endless praise for working 8 months a year until 3pm.

I think Last of the Mohicans brings up some of the issues with colonialism, and it's a great film. The competing agendas, the Indian tribes picking sides, the Americans' growing distrust of the British.
It's one of my favorite movies. In fact, I'll say it's the best picture to come out of the 90s.

The MO county next to this one is voting today on a sales tax increase for no other given reason than it'll raise police salaries and make the county "competitive" with other jurisdictions in that regard. Pretty blatant.

It's universal. I live in very red place but tax increases always seem to pass with easy margins. Say it's for the children, for firefighters or for police and you're guaranteed 70% YES votes.
In reality 98% of the tax increase goes to something other than fire/police of children Which is why the next year another tax increase is needed, and easily passes.

Me and the Ex were both in the Navy, and I went off on a 6 month cruise. She wanted self defense lessons, so I got her full contact female centric self defense lessons for a Christmas Present, just as I was leaving.
She took them, enjoyed the heck out of them, but after I got back, started to mess around hitting me one day. So we went out to the back yard.
It did not go as she had expected. I outweighed her by 75 lbs, and started to throw her around the backyard. Thought it was funny and started laughing.
Found out during the soon to happen divorce, that it was a 'defining moment in our relationship'.

Talked about this a bit last night regarding the Midway movie. Frankly. The way that movie Saving Pvt. Ryan was shot was brilliance. With that and others like Midway I am not going to nitpick accuracy as far as the correct Sherman tank model or if the B-25 had a forward turret in 42'. Obviously Saving PR was fictional Midway not but even if that's not 100% accurate I am OK with it if they don't SJW it up. The reputation of that movie is ENTIRELY based on the fact that it's opening sequence is super-intense and people made a big deal out of veterans being overwhelmed with memories.
Spielberg is a Galactic God-Emperor Master of emotional manipulation.
But once you get past that, the story is a crock and it goes out of its way to make the US look bad - from the assembly-line letters (which didn't happen) to the fact that the real Ryan was actually rescued by a Catholic Chaplain instead of an infantry squad.
Why'd they write that guy out, I wonder?

Got a new wireless keyboard and I hate it! If you look at it or a wind blows it is hitting buttons I don't want! F-11? Really? Why? Anyway, if the cemetery scene from the end of SPR doesn't make it dusty, well then. I am OK with Hollywood taking a little liberty to make stuff interesting. Compared to the standard nowadays they put out? If some millennial fck sees it, at least maybe it will make them think. Unbreakable, the story of Louie Zamperini is another great story.

There was a book published back in the '70s or '80s by some underground press called "Johnny Sold His Gun" about the REAL "hidden" history of the US Army in WWII, which is that some large percentage of American soldiers were ne'er-do-wells, and often stole equipment, rifle and supplies and sold them to locals, black-marketeers or anybody who would buy. The extent of the problem was covered up at the time and remains so to this day. And a lot of other malfeasances, like going AWOL, sexually assaulting local girls, feighning illness, etc. etc.
Sad to admit, one of my own relatives was one of those corrupt WWII soldiers. He used to regale us with tales of his misdeeds in Europe that would curl your hair.
The US troops were probably no worse than the troops of other nations in this regard, but we rarely hear about it.

They got the authorship of the Pientka and Strzok's notes [on which 3O2s are based] transposed - the ones ID'd as being one guy's are the other, and vice versa. Waiting for Underdover Huber and others who live in the critical weeds to decide what material impact this has on analysis of substance, but fairly sure this is *not* a good look for a federal prosecution already swamped [heh] in apparent improprieties and dubious details.

I hated it because it was based on lies.
By the time combat troops arrived, the beaches were very organized. Most of the chaos Nolan shows were the REMFs during the early days of the evacuation.
Similarly, the British weren't stupid - they send the big fleet in under cover of darkness. They did this night after night - gather all the ships on the British side during the day, make a massed descent at night.
But that doesn't look dramatic, so let's have them get bombed a lot.
Finally, the civilian yacht was based on the Sundowner, and the crew made it there and back without incident. Having a freaked-out Tommy cripple one of the crew was a blood libel.
This is our age - we take heroes and smear them, and people are so glad that they aren't totally condemned that they stand up and applaud the smear because hey, it could have been worse.
