Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Say, How Come Bill Kristol Was Very Noticeably Absent from the AEI Awards Dinner Held In His Own Father's Name? From insiders, here is the sequence leading up to Bill Kristol's very visible non-appearance at the Irving Kristol Award dinner. For weeks, it had been rumored that, owing to donor discomfort with Bill Kristol's past speeches at the Irving Kristol dinner -- which were unrestrained in mockery of Trump supporters, many of whom were actually donors to AEI and the dinner -- that Bill Kristol had not been invited this year, and in fact was specifically asked not to come. Kristol usually gives the introductory speech, as you would expect. But Kristol was causing controversy among the people paying the bills. As he does. Being a spiteful little donation-parasite that can't keep a civil tongue even with the people paying his big-time mortgage. So rumor had it that he wasn't invited -- or was specifically disinvited -- from the dinner this year. Many rejected this rumor as too incredible to be believed. And yet, as the dinner took place a couple of days ago, rising to the podium to give the introductory speech hitherto always given by Bill Kristol was... not Bill Kristol.Good evening everyone. I'm Robert Doar, president of AEI, and, on behalf of our chairman Dan D'Aniello and the entire AEI community, I welcome you to our Annual Dinner. We’re so glad you could join us this evening, when we have the privilege of celebrating two great Americans: Irving Kristol and Ambassador Nikki Haley. ... Those of you who have been with us before know that it has been our practice in the past at this point in the program to invite Bill Kristol up to say a few words about the Irving Kristol Award and to extend greetings from his mother, Bea Himmelfarb, and their family. But Bea and Bill could not be here tonight, though they still send warm greetings and good wishes to all of us and to Ambassador Haley. And I know we send the same to them.I'm told by a party attending the event that there was confusion and surprise that the not-at-all-august presence of Bill Kristol was not at all present, augustly or otherwise, and people went to their phones to text "What's going on?" or the like to others. I'm further told that a donor explained that he believed, based on statements from AEI officials, that Bill Kristol was not merely absent, but that his radiant feminence was asked to not be present. Owing to prior discourtesies rendered at the stage in the several years past. Is this merely chatter? Does this donor know this for a fact? The AEI officials were not explicit on this point -- they just implied that Bill Kristol had been politely suggested to grace the event with his absence. Or so I hear. But consider the sequence of events here: It had been rumored for a time before the event that Bill Kristol had been disinvited. People showed up not believing this rumor, and expecting Kristol to show up and insult swathes of the gathering, as he had done before, and just be an absolute glutton with the hors d'ouvures, because, I mean: Just look at him. This is not a man who turns away a stuffed mushroom or nine lightly. This is not a sentimentalist fool who believes in the outdated chestnut of "Women and children first" at the shrimp-bar. This is a man who knows one must post-up just outside the gates leading from the kitchen to the dining hall, and work to box-out and muscle-out any encroaching competitors. But then he didn't show up. For a dinner given in his father's honor. No bacon wrapped scallops for Bill this night. I guess he had a more important and more prestigious event scheduled for the night of October 29. Or spending some quality time with people he loves. Or pursuing further groundbreaking philosophical inquiries into bold new areas of inquiry hitherto undreamt of. Either that or he was jerking off with Twitter, as usual. This actually is good evidence for the proposition that Kristol, Goldberg, etc. actually are that damn dumb.
After the depth of their madness and illogic became clear, I assumed the money men were responsible. Donor pay for sock puppets, not principles. It's not clear that there's much of a market for this, though. I'm assuming that the paymasters expected some kind of return for their money - a shift in opinion, at least among conservatives. Posted by: ace I'm a pro at consuming free food inconspicuously. You have to VARY your choices (e.g. first shrimp, then mushrooms, then a cocktail, then back to shrimp, etc.) come at the buffet table from different angles, retire to different seats/tables in different parts of the room for the consuming, etc. Mix it up. Also, pretend to chat to random strangers when getting/eating the food. Makes it look like the food is not your primary activity. Posted by: zombie at November 01, 2019 05:40 PM (fK2gX) 92

BREAKING: Beto O'Rourke, a Democrat from Texas, is dropping out of the race for president - NYT Posted by: Tami at November 01, 2019 05:29 PM (cF8AT) ================= The DNC probably had a little sit down with table jumper.

Beto - didn't even make it to Iowa, LOL! And so dies Beto's political career, and there was much rejoicing.
As we've said over and over, all he's done with his attempts to win the far-left sweepstakes has been to destroy his ability to ever run for office in Texas again. Well, not for a state wide race - he could probably become Mayor of Van Horn or something pathetic. but I think he's done with Texas now. I think he and wifey are gonna head up to NYC and park in one of daddykins condos on Park Avenue, and he'll hang out in trendy lib bars and grace MSNBC with his glorious presence from time to time. And with that, he's gone from the stage, a strutting player full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Also, pretend to chat to random strangers when getting/eating the food. Makes it look like the food is not your primary activity.

At most Church event reception buffet tables I've been to, they never buy quite enough so the big contest is to race to see if you can get in the first half of the line, otherwise there's going to be nothing left but little bits of raw broccoli florets with ranch dressing. And you didn't go to the buffet to get stuck with that.

Jane, your shrimp recipes sound great! My husband loves shrimp. We moved to a little barrier island about a decade ago, where the shrimp is fresh and cheap. As soon as we moved here, he discovered that shell fish were on his banned list. It kills him to go to parties and half the dishes are shrimp this or that. I'm a pro at consuming free food inconspicuously.

When I was growing up, my Dad LOVED the Buffet restaurants that were popular in the 60's and early 70's, Smorgasbord this and that, and I still remember all the Healthy Eating tips he would coach my brother and I with. "Now, when you go up there, they first have you walk by this table with lots of salads and jello and things, but DON"T BE FOOLED! It's a trick! That's the cheap stuff, if you wanna get your money's worth you skip that salad table completely and go straight to the meat! Especially if they got a guy carving something. And the best part if you just stick to the meat is that you can then load up on about 3 of 4 of those good looking desserts at the end!!!"

Kristol has not harangued any Trump supporters at the AEI Dinner.
Speeches are on YouTube. Bill said nothing in 2017 about Trump. In 2018 he said nothing about Trump. He joked 'for the Kristols magazine editor is the highest title.'(award winner was Boris Johnson) This was about a month before the Weekly Standard was closed, and you can see it in his face. In 2016, Kristol said he was gloomy about the election, but takes comfort that one of the two candidates must lose. He quotes McCain, that it is always darkest before it is pitch black.
