I imagine a lot of parents out there regardless of color or faith will find that if they have a bright kid and they want him to achieve, they'll move heaven and earth to get him out of the public education penal system.
It will also lead to more private schools, neighborhood cooperative schools, home schooling, parochial schools, etc. If you eliminate the ability for bright kids to achieve, you're going to remove bright kids from the system entirely - at least those who have tuned-in parents.
Those who don't have tuned-in parents will languish, never being discovered and shunted into achievement programs they never knew existed and would never consider pursuing even if they did.
This ain't about race, it's about forcing everyone to be ignorant underachievers who won't question their masters. This is about the promotion of mental slavery and diminution.
These people are unalloyed evil.

Demographics aside, there is no equality of outcome; there's always going to be a bell curve. It is amazing these people think they can rig education in such a way as to avoid it.
Why not keep your classes 'as is' and just give every student the same grades? It will provide the equality of outcome without having to alter your curricula.

My kids do dance competitions. And they way they get judged works the same way. There are like 5 or 6 "grades" they can get and instead of letter grades or numbers or whatever it's stuff like Ultra High Excellent, High Excellent, Excellent, Very Good and Good.

In order to get in to NC Central - the state school next door operating under the exact same state educational standards (and familiar to many as the stripper's school in the Duke lacrosse debacle) - you need a 3.2.

Then he got the reading list. It had nothing to do with science. It was all leftist agitprop, extolling the virtues of the Earth First terrorists as "eco-warriors," all "climate change," salaaming to Rachel Carson, etc.
Our kid took one look at it and decided to take something else. I read the reading list and almost rage-stroked.

They are grateful we homeschooled them. We did so with a Christian classical homeschool group called "Classical Conversations." They learned the Great Books, how to think critically for themselves, as well as how to engage in formal debate. It has been deeply encouraging to see them come to their own settled conviction that the liberal/progressive worldview is devoid of anything good, beautiful, or true.
While I have served in a higher education for two and a half decades (currently at Patrick Henry College), not all of our children (seven) are interested in pursuing higher education, but some want to pursue the trades (skill sets I passed on to them from my farming roots). I encouraging those ones to take some vocational courses and get into an apprenticeship under a highly skilled master in the trade.
Based on conversations, I gather if/when they make us grandparents they will homeschool their children.

Since my neighborhood has excellent public schools (for Oregon), the school kids are about half Asian (almost all Vietnamese). There is a Kumon about half a mile away.
This is obviously unfair, and needs to be stopped.

My university added an Environmental Science option for Earth and Planetary Sciences, and sure it's political, but it's also a hard core Bachelor of Science degree with the upper level calculus and chemistry and physics, not just the 101 versions.
The problem with Environmental Science in High School is that in High School they need to teach the science basics... Environmental Science isn't a foundational area of science. It would be like having a Cancer Science class without the years of Biology to get you there.
Anything that could be considered Earth and Planetary science is a combo of some hard core Physics, Math, Chemistry and even some of that Biology. You have to know what an ion is, how fluids move.
It would make tons more sense to list an Environmental Science class in High School and it's nothing but Calculus and Physics.

I was a total burnout in HS, I graduated with a 2.09 GPA and that was only because I needed a 2.0 to play football. I wasn't helped by the fact that I was stoned out of my mind in my first hour class almost every day. My high ACT score was the only reason I even managed to get into a state college. This was news -- decades ago.
They banned AP classes back at my high school for this very reason, and that was back in 19...uh...well, you get the idea.
Many school districts in California outlawed "tracking" -- i.e. dividing up students according to their ability and skill-level -- back in the 1970s. While in the bad old days, there were bonehead classes, regular classes and AP classes, after the new rules ("new" in the 1970s) all students were lumped together in the same classes. End results: bonehead students were out of their depth, and got WORSE grades, while advanced students were bored to death and got their education stymied and stalled.
Then there was a backlash in the '80s, then an anti-backlash in the '90s, and back and forth many many times.
This latest "AP is racist" push is like the 40th iteration of the disastrous idea.

I don't see why anyone thinks that's outrageous. You get more points for Honors and AP classes because they're harder and require a lot more work. An A in remedial english shouldn't hold the same value as an A in AP English. Those classes, especially AP classes require As and high standardized test scores to get into initially (so a record of success and seriousness) and they not only require much more work, but they also come with AP exam prep. They're college courses. They should get a GPA bump.
I had a full year of college credit from AP and college board subject exams (then called "achievements"), the bump in the GPA shows the type of college in which you will succeed. It would have been completely unfair to have my AP class grades have the same value as someone in the dumb class.

Or get rid of all of it and have standardized tests for all subjects. One or two tests a year in every subject. Same test taken by everyone. That's your grade.

There are some differences. For one thing the stress is higher, but more importantly, the umpiring tightens up. They're still human and will blow some calls but you get the best of the best in there for these games, not the Angel Hernandezs of the crew. So the calls at the plate are tighter, for one thing.
Some people respond to the stress and excitement better than others and become superstars in the post season.

Disagree. AP with a good score on the AP exam means college credit so you don't have to take much of the bullshit classes again in college and for the STEM majors (like my kids) they can get on with their real curriculum sooner.

I used to go to Padre Island once in a while with a geologist I worked with at the time. He'd always say all of this building on barrier islands was insane - he said the record showed that once every thousand years or so (forever in human time, but a blink of the eye in geologic time) a storm has come along that was big enough to pick up the entire barrier island and move it a mile or two in a single night. We haven't seen one of those in our cultural memory, but it's coming. Always has.

No. Why would you have a "regular" GPA when it doesn't reflect the classes taken? That's "everyone gets a trophy" thinking and doesn't reflect the level of learning or difficulty at all. The only way to keep it under your 4.0 max would be to award an A in AP as 4, an A in Honors as a 3, an A in regular as a 2 and an A in remedial as a 1.
Then your joe-average kid can work hard for the equivalent of a C and max out there. Your D student can max out at a D.
I'm sure that'll encourage learning. Not. Or you can just give up your love affair with a subjective scale that doesn't accurately reflect class difficulty and performance.

Correct. Which is why the GPA should reflect the difficulty of the class, not "college credit." They're far more difficult and at a much higher level than non AP and Honors classes.
People would just stop taking AP classes and just study AP exam books. Far less work.
